Why are people obsessed with the quality of plastics on the dashboard, do they stroke it every day? The only time I touch it is to clean it. As long as it doesn't squeak or rattle then I'm a happy bunny.
Ron Shephard. You are the true example of a leader and now with this achievement, you add another feather in your crown. I wish you all the best for your future and congratulate you for this achievement. May you achieve every success in your life.
It really does not matter as long as it is not the kind of cheep plastics that become very unsighty after few years due to scratches. But imho the critics on this particular car for "too much plastics" could be because it is not a cheap car and it should be little more "satisfying" quality.
Well said my feelings exactly, after all most of the time the decor is related if you buy a small SUV. and shouldn't expect the same decor, you would expect if you bought a premium car.?🤘
I'm going to order the Arona FR Sport tomorrow, the only difference really from this video is that it comes with a digital cockpit instead of traditional dials which I like very much, having satnav in the middle of the screen is a brilliant idea, saves me having to look away from the road to much instead of looking at the infotainment screen. I must say your videos are excellent! I've watched a few of them now, excellent quality, and very professional, I've subscribed! Hello from the UK!
On the basis of your review I booked a test drive and purchased a diesel version. Many thanks for the great review and pointing me in the right direction.
We are getting our Arona on Friday, not getting (friday) for our (Arona) hello Michael from Ireland how are you my fellow European. Not a criticism just help on phraseology.
First class review again Thomas, thank you.And i feel i can think about buying such a car now, as you mentioned that you thought it would probably suit older people to. That's a good piece of advice to myself, as im a pensioner and changing my Moka 1.4.turbo this year. Thanks in advance for your help.
I really like the proportions of this. Especially with the twin paint. The excellence Lux spec, is very nice too, i particularly like the Alcantara/leather seats.
SEAT transferred the design of the Ibiza to the Arona in a very good way! The superior interior and the exterior especially with the “X” on the c- pillar looks great in combination with the dynamic FR version. I would always choose the FR package and the 1.5TSI for a small SEAT.😍 I hope there will be a CUPRA version... Interesting Review from the wonderful catalonia 😎
They're doing a nice job lately in Seat. I'm curious to discover more about the new 1.0 TGI and 1.5 TGI engines. Thanks for your great reviews Thomas! :)
This is beyond the shadow of a doubt the very best car review source available anywhere - outstanding presentation and thorough, objective, detailed reviews. I was thinking of getting the Mazda CX3 (having been delighted by my Mazda 2) but as I'm getting a lot older I need a car with a higher seating position and the CX3 seems as low as the Mazda 2 and as hard to get into for an old guy like me. This review of the Seat Arona told me EVERYTHING I needed to know and has made my choice so simple. Danke schon ! (One thing I loved about the Mazda 2 was the reversing camera as I have neck and back problems. Does anyone know whether a reversing camera is available as an option for all models or is it restricted to a specific version of the Arona?)
Means really a lot to us! Rear view camera is available for all models, afaik the only restriction should be that you probably cannot take the basic infotainment screen but have to go for the higher one. I think.
Thanks Thomas, excellent review! I like the looks of this car, and it seems it drives quite well too. I keep having problems with the hard plastics used in the interior though. Now I do not mind them for places that I do not touch, which includes the top of the dashboard. But places like the inside of the door (incl. the top, where I like to sometimes rest my elbow) should not be hard plastic. I am beginning to wonder if they shouldn't start offering an 'interior luxury package' with more soft touch parts and things like a padded centre console (the sides you may touch with you knee). I would be in for that, but then again I may be the only one..
Not the only one for sure, the cheep looking cabinet and wind noise were the only things (beside the questionable reliability of vw powertrains) that deterred me from this brand. Also it is overpriced here in my country Egypt, I still do not know why!
Love the review, thank you! You're very informative and entertaining and I'm learning more about cars every day thanks to you. I'm looking to move from a UK 2012 Skoda Fabia Elegance (1.2 DSG Petrol TSI 105) and this Arona looks great to me. I heard the Beats Audio System in a UK Ibiza and loved it but, here in the UK, there's no option to choose a DSG Arona with the Beats Audio. A pity, because in Ireland and all over Europe I can spec up any Arona to my liking. Here in the UK we're just getting "take it or leave it" trims. Hopefully later in 2018 Seat UK will release a "v2" Arona with Traffic Sign Recognition and Top View Camera like the Ateca.
Nice and enjoyable review, always the best! I can't wait for the baby-EV SEAT eMii or another EV from Seat in 2019, and for you to test it :-) (Futuregefühl!)
Testing a Mystery Blue FR Sport later this week. Full LEDs, digital cockpit and alcantara seats as standard in 2018> models. 400l boot which dwarfs the car it would replace. Only concern will be the road noise but the dealer is only 1/2 mile from the motorway so will get a good test of that. Great review as always Thomas 👍 Edit....... Bought it. Nice car. Smooth, responsive, comfy, decent build quality. Knowing what I know, would happily buy again
Update Bought it and collecting tomorrow. Blue body & roof. Looks and drives great and I didn't find the noise a problem at 80 mph. I got the impression that the noise that did exist was more tyre roar than frkm the body/mirrors 😁
Turning knobs for seat adjustment are SO much better than the crappy handles. It allows for very fine adjustment which is great. I love that on my Leon, I loved it on my Polo and on my Golf as well... I can only say the opposite of the handles on my Citroen C3 where I can never seem to adjust it quite right.
Great Review as always! Think would prefer Excellence trim with bright interior. Skimping just too much with no handles/hooks. Greetings to Thomas in the passenger seat! At 34:32 interesting solid white line in your lane on approach to junction! At 48:31 the BLIS did not work! Many thanks Team - great work.
I do my best to answer all your questions.. hope you won´t get angry if I forgot one...:-) so.... grab handles are "oldschool" and not necessary. Colorwise I would prefer one color for the whole car, too. And for seat adjustment it would be better if we have those handles, your are so right. The 17" rims are ugly . Plastic inside is a very bad idea that makes the car looking cheap. I wish the Ibiza FR will get the soft touch in future as shown in this Arona FR, BTW : nice camera-holding-hand and nice humor . .. FullHd FullLengts and HighFrameRate, very good review
Excelent video, it was very helpful. My wife Liked the Arona alot. So I bought it for her, se has the FR Diésel versión and is very happy. SEAT makes Good cars I own a Leon FR 180hp and is very fun to drive. Keep up the great Work, Love your Channel.
Awesome review! I couldn’t imagine watching a 1h video review but your voice is addictive :) Can I also ask you which microphone are you using? The audio is awesome even if you’re in a car
I love the desire red with the black roof....I'm not sure if a red roof as well would be a bit too much. I wish they did a yellow option with black like a wasp or bumble bee colour :-)
Thanks Thomas for another superb review. This is really high class 👍Now there is only one remaning remark to do - Thomas you are a bad guy ....... and why is it so? Well i'll tell you. After i saw the reviews of the Ateca, I desided to take a closer look into that model and ended up buying it 😱. So now what do you think is going to happen now when I go to check out this model live when we get it in Denmark i the beginning of january ......? I will presumably by it 😂 - Thanks to the good and well described examination of the Arona in this review. Thank you, Thomas you are doing a very good job 😊
Thank you for this excellent factual review. We have only today ordered the Seat Arona Excellent, Red with Black ... I cant wait to get in it and drive, I feel much more confident in its handling after seeing this review.
Great review Thomas. I saw the Arona in Portugal recently and it was very impressive and with much better access and roomier than the Ibiza. Must admit I'm not really a fan of 3 cylinder engines, as they do not necessarily improve driving pleasure or economy. Pity the 1.5 evo isn't available down the range. It seems that the FR would be the best all round choice.
Wanna be extremely profitable? Just raise your midsize segment vehicle by few centimeters, add some plastic on wheel arches, call it "crossover" and that's it, you can sell it at 5000-7000 euros more expensive. This is my view. And what do you think guys?
I’d always go for a Seat over a VW or Skoda, they don’t make an ugly car. They are sporty and youthful where as VW and Skoda are a bit boring and dull, to me that is
Thanks Thomas. I'm just looking for another smaller family car...main wife requirement: high sitting like in our current family car Skoda Yeti. I would like to buy full electrically car only, but at the moment the is no big choice...Cheers DrDuu
Another great review Thomas ;) Does the blind spot monitor also work with motorcycles? And when you are driving in the 2-cylinder mode, which cylinders are active then? the 2 in the middle? cheers!
In two cylinder mode the two middle ones are disabled, by basically disabling the opening of the valves. The technique is called 'act', if you search for 'VW ACT' on youtube you can find some nice animations about how this works.
I quite like the orange colour. Seat have impressed me with their good value, but with the assurance of VW underpinnings. More desirable than the excellent Skoda in brand.
Great and very informative review as always, Thomas. Well done. Is wind noise really annoying? I have a ford fiesta 1.6 petrol (2009), and even though it is a great car, I cannot enjoy big trips because of the overall noise above 100. I like Arona a lot, but this wind noise thing, makes me have second thoughts. Is it so loud around 130?
Hi Thomas! i would appreciate it to know what is your suggestion for a small family car between seat arona, ford ecosport and vw T-roc? or perhaps something else in the category?
very good review. Personally, we picked the Arona because of its superior safety functions compared to other small SUVs like Opel Crossland X or Peugeot 2008. Full LED headlights and a better EBA system (up to 250km/h compared to the typical 30km/h), not to mention that the braking assist comes as a standard. The electronic differential is also a plus if you live in a country where it snows from time to time and you live in the countryside. On the othe hand, the interior is poor, the armrest is not standard and it is not cheap, the standard multimedia system is quite bad compared to the competition, a lot of cheap looking plastic overall..
I think the car is more than 3 cm higher than the Ibiza Yes, I miss the handles (above the windows) I dont know about this two color design, I think I better like one color, however I have not seen any pictures of that.
Thomas, as an excellent motoring journalist with a wealth of knowledge and experience, do you think the crossover/SUV lifestyle market will peak and start to decline within the next couple of years? Are lifestyle vehicles and high seating positions really what people will continue to expect from car manufacturers or do you think people will head back to traditional hatchbacks once the trend has finished? Or do you anticipate the creation of a new trend/vehicle segment? BTW i like playing with the soft sprung VW group grab handles but can honestly say i've rarely used them for their intended purpose.
hehe =) (bout the handles) Well about the trend, I am certain that SUV are here to stay. If you once enjoyed easier entry and higher seating position, most dont wanna miss it
Once again, a great review! What would you recommend for someone who wants to sit high up but would like hatchback length and width? I have a Peugeot 207 but need something higher up as I have medical conditions making it hard to get in and out of. And I'm a young driver, so can't get insured on cars like Audi's.....😕
Sooooooo much info on the FR fuel consumption but nothing about how the car rides on the 18 inch wheels compared to the other models and if the sports suspension is much harder etc etc
Excellent small SUV and tech specs... ! Beautiful color combinations ! I like design and 1,5 version, 0-100 km/h 7,4s is better than tech specs. mention ! Excellent review !
Seems like a car manufacturered for Spanish only... somehow the way they use a car, differs from those in Germany or Denmark and Netherlands... thanks to Thomas with his German accent like in Family Guy, I did learn that even my choice for full option luxurious models, I still get more value for the money with Skoda Kamiq
Drove one of these the other day. It sure is a slick and cheap(er) way to get the benefits of the MQB platform. The interior could have used better materials indeed. The fit and finish look robust though.BTW I am 6 feet tall and I never really got comfortable behind the wheel. :)
I dont understand how much they really save not putting handles on it?! Yes they are very handy and i use them alot as a driver and as a passenger me and many that drive with me .- .I prefer a car that offer this now "extra" like kia for ex
I saw today the Ibiza Fr 115 hp and the Arona with the same specs, and I dont see why the Arona costs almost 6000 € than the Ibiza. ( Portugal's pricing)
I am not exactly sure either, Arona and Ibiza seem to have different trim combinations or what's included in packages. I think the Arona has some stuff more included already
I saw it in a mall, I think that almost 6000€ difference is too much, I think because the SUV craze is on full steam the companies are asking more for them.
Hi Thomas, just having another look at this review of the Arona. The one thing that puts je of this car, is that as you stated before. That it dosen't have simple features i.e. like above door handles or jacket hooks.Surely it wouldn't have cost too much money to have them fitted. After all as a pensioner, and i probably talk for most pensioners, it's always handy to have these handles, to make it easier to exit the vehicle. I just don't understand why they have ommited them, as at the end of the day, if it's to save cost i just don't get it, as it will always be us, the customer that foots the bill for anything the manufacturers thinks is a special feature that's to be added to the vehicle.Only a thought Thomas.👎🇬🇧
Does the 1.0 engine finally have EU 6c and a particle filter or will they still be sold without and cancerous particle emissions the last few months that it is legal (1.9.2018 it will be illegal)? Diesels without filter have been illegal for over 6 years (!) now, that same old particle limit will now finally be required for petrol engines as well. Look what happened to diesels without filters, if petrol engines with the same emissions just get treated the same threy have no future. Better buy a gar with Multi Point injetion and more displacement, they have a cleaner combustion process and no problems with particle emissions. And how about the diesel, SCR kat and EUc or not?
Particle filters suck. I literally had to remove it from my E87 and I always turn off the start/stop system cause it doesn't let my engine warm up if I'm driving in city. Nothing is changing untill we switch to other less polluting power sources, all this stuff DPF's and shit just just makes more trouble for owners. Also - 1.0 115 hp in such big car is just terrible I can't even think of driving this thing.
Disappointing, buying a car with emissions that were banned for diesels over 6 years ago and without EU 6c now makes no sense and is extremely short sighted, but most people don't know.
You mean start/stop? It basically doesn't let your engine warm up and it will consume more fuel, thats pretty simple. Also if your engine is a diesel it's slowly killing it.
Maybe it is because I am getting old, but when I go out to buy a car then "sporty" has absolutely no value to me. I want my car to be safe and easy to drive, and that's it. I go to a go-cart track with my colleagues once in a while and that fully satisfies my need for sporty driving. Whenever I hear a reviewer say "it is really sporty and fun", then that translates to "potentially unsafe" in my head, and I count it as a minus and not as a plus. Also I object to referring to any activity that involves relaxing in a comfy seat as "sporty" ;-)
I bought an Ibiza anyway, even though someone might have said that it can be fun to drive ;-) It takes four months to have it delivered. That is worth mentioning to anyone thinking about getting the new Ibiza while it is still "new".
So this car is vw arona no seat is 100 % vw German car, this is a vw with a seat logo why don't u tell this is the same with skoda and vw so is 100 % German car nothing to do with spain
Okay looking car, but just way too expensive for what it is (at least in here). I wish Seat would do something new with the interiors. Same old instruments and generic VAG desing.

On the basis of your review I booked a test drive and purchased a diesel version.
Many thanks for the great review and pointing me in the right direction.

We are getting friday our Arona, a 1.0 style business intense version. With your review we have a must more overview of the car in general. Thanks

Very nice review, Thanks! I will put the Arona on my shortlist for a new car for sure.

Now I do not mind them for places that I do not touch, which includes the top of the dashboard. I Love the FR in the red colour for sure

cheers! We use some royalty free music
Thanks but can you give me the name of the tune and artist
Wow, those rear disks are almost hidden by the alloys
I'd go for the Arona 1.6TDI 115bhp Xcellence Lux in Desire red with Black roof.
Awesome review! I couldn’t imagine watching a 1h video review but your voice is addictive :)
Can I also ask you which microphone are you using? The audio is awesome even if you’re in a car
welcome!
We re using Sennheiser AVX, the small attachment one is the MKE1
I think SEAT should pay you some royalties. ;) Because of your great and detailed review I am now an owner of Arona FR 1.5TSI
cool, enjoy! =)

I think the 1.5 is only available in FR and FR Sport in the UK. Not in SE or Excellence trims which is a shame.

well you have a point there, but in this case, the Arona is just 750 more than the Ibiza as I said in the video
I was going to get the ibiza but the seats and dash are so much better on the arona fr variant , with a panoramic roof this car is a serious contender
Thanks for the review

Another great review Thomas ;)
Does the blind spot monitor also work with motorcycles?
And when you are driving in the 2-cylinder mode, which cylinders are active then? the 2 in the middle?
cheers!
In two cylinder mode the two middle ones are disabled, by basically disabling the opening of the valves. The technique is called 'act', if you search for 'VW ACT' on youtube you can find some nice animations about how this works.
Thomas does the Seat Arona have an automatic gearbox?
You can chose one with it yes
I quite like the orange colour. Seat have impressed me with their good value, but with the assurance of VW underpinnings. More desirable than the excellent Skoda in brand.
Please could you do a review of the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser. That would be awesome, 'cause I love the looks of this car.
+Petros Tsakmakopetras thx! Compared to new ibiza. Compare to ur fiesta it will be big improvement
Autogefühl, many thanks for your response! Keep up the great job.
Great review! I'm oscillating between this, Peugeot 2008 and Hyundai Kona. What would be your preference?
thanks! Check our 2008 review: th-cam.com/video/MCDiUzxin7U/w-d-xo.html
Kona review will come next year
Hi Thomas! i would appreciate it to know what is your suggestion for a small family car between seat arona, ford ecosport and vw T-roc? or perhaps something else in the category?
Arona for best price performance
Is there any known faults for the 1.5 petrol? I'm interested in getting one and debating if this or the Suzuki Vitara.
Why vitara instead of s-cross ?
@@hellolau I prefer the body built of Vitara.
Good review!....which would you prefer, the 1.0 or 1.5.?
1.5
Excellent rewiew, Thanks. Gonna buy one now.
+Nick Booth You are welcome, enjoy
very good review.
Cool enjoy!
I think the car is more than 3 cm higher than the Ibiza
Yes, I miss the handles (above the windows)
I dont know about this two color design, I think I better like one color, however I have not seen any pictures of that.
BTW i like playing with the soft sprung VW group grab handles but can honestly say i've rarely used them for their intended purpose.
hehe =) (bout the handles)
Well about the trend, I am certain that SUV are here to stay. If you once enjoyed easier entry and higher seating position, most dont wanna miss it
Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work at team Autogefuhl ; )
Hi Thomas, when will you be reviewing the new Audi A7 ?
I guess in December. Check this preview so far: th-cam.com/video/UrEn2SI77oE/w-d-xo.html
In 2019 they added a great virtual cockpit
could you review the citroen spacetourer xs with driving experience?
No handles and no rear passenger light. So glad i got the t-cross
Once again, a great review! What would you recommend for someone who wants to sit high up but would like hatchback length and width? I have a Peugeot 207 but need something higher up as I have medical conditions making it hard to get in and out of. And I'm a young driver, so can't get insured on cars like Audi's.....😕
Renault Zoe you sit somewhat higher up. And it doesn’t look like an SUV.
appreciated! Well this car does seem suitable then, doesnt it ?
Sooooooo much info on the FR fuel consumption but nothing about how the car rides on the 18 inch wheels compared to the other models and if the sports suspension is much harder etc etc
Mpg in town? Any idea? Petrol of course 👍
I think i mentioned fuel?
I love this car
Excellent small SUV and tech specs... ! Beautiful color combinations ! I like design and 1,5 version, 0-100 km/h 7,4s is better than tech specs. mention ! Excellent review !
thanks keep tuning in !
The display is too far down to use while driving ,it forces you to take your eyes off the road to use .
As if I were in the car . Xcellent review .
+bo dee 👍👍
Drove one of these the other day. It sure is a slick and cheap(er) way to get the benefits of the MQB platform. The interior could have used better materials indeed. The fit and finish look robust though.BTW I am 6 feet tall and I never really got comfortable behind the wheel. :)
thanks for the feedback!
Why?
I dont understand how much they really save not putting handles on it?! Yes they are very handy and i use them alot as a driver and as a passenger me and many that drive with me .- .I prefer a car that offer this now "extra" like kia for ex
can you make a video Cx3 vs arona ?
compare the CX3 here: th-cam.com/video/Wj_sJEDFj_U/w-d-xo.html
I saw today the Ibiza Fr 115 hp and the Arona with the same specs, and I dont see why the Arona costs almost 6000 € than the Ibiza. ( Portugal's pricing)
I am not exactly sure either, Arona and Ibiza seem to have different trim combinations or what's included in packages. I think the Arona has some stuff more included already
I saw it in a mall, I think that almost 6000€ difference is too much, I think because the SUV craze is on full steam the companies are asking more for them.
yeah if it would really be that high indeed
You’re the best
Beautiful car
Das wird ja immer besser.. ;-)
Dear Sir,
Good afternoon, I am one of your followers.
Is there any way I can contact you for a personal enquiry.
Thank you.
Thanks! Instagram channel is linked in comment and video description
Didn't anyone tell you that you drive in lane 1 when you are not overtaking. Stop hogging lane 2.
Panoramic Sunroof??
optional as I said
Hi Thomas, just having another look at this review of the Arona.
Thanks for the feedback!
I like it
Does the 1.0 engine finally have EU 6c and a particle filter or will they still be sold without and cancerous particle emissions the last few months that it is legal (1.9.2018 it will be illegal)?
GinsengStrip2002 Would you say they're useless or they just mess with the engine starter? Trying to get an idea of their utility
They will put it in when they cannot sell them without anymore - Sep 2018...
I bought the Fr : delivery in 14 months, and I live in Spain !
congrats!
I see what u mean and i agree comfort comes first. No problem with this one here :)
I bought an Ibiza anyway, even though someone might have said that it can be fun to drive ;-) It takes four months to have it delivered. That is worth mentioning to anyone thinking about getting the new Ibiza while it is still "new".
Šteta što nema prevod
feel free to provide one!
So this car is vw arona no seat is 100 % vw German car, this is a vw with a seat logo why don't u tell this is the same with skoda and vw so is 100 % German car nothing to do with spain
150 PS, 7.3 sek 100 km/h
Not quite as sexy as the rest of the Seat lineup
SUV? Fiat PAnda 4x4 is more SUV than this..... lol
please let this awful SUV or whatever its called nowadays END!!
Okay looking car, but just way too expensive for what it is (at least in here). I wish Seat would do something new with the interiors. Same old instruments and generic VAG desing.
Beautiful car
