@@WillieDWashington sure, the kid may be good at martial arts, good for him. that has very little to do with the quality of the movie. in my humble opinion (and truly, it is humble, I'm just another consumer) the movie was poorly adapted, poorly written, poorly acted, and extremely poorly paced. also the choreography for the bending was extremely lacking. just my two cents as a big fan of the og show. even without comparing it to the show though, the movie just wasn't great.
The sheer amount of hate on this video just proves how racist people are. All you "I don't see race" or "the best actor should get the job" people need a reality check. Y'all literally think there isn't a SINGLE poc that is capable of handling these roles? There isn't a SINGLE poc that is an amazing actor? Right.
In 1956 likely not for certain ethnicities (well likely not fluent english speaking) so it wouldn't have been feasible. But in the 2000s yeah there are probably plenty of actors who could do the roles...though do you think an all Japanese (not random asian people but 100% only Japanese actors) cast could have saved Dragon Ball Evolution? The movie was fucked from the get go.
+Arella17 In 1956 White people were not going to go to the movies to see a POC in a starring role. Whites played Native Americans, Egyptians and such because Hollywood was not diverse. I think everyone on here is 35 or younger. Being older in my 50s I recall always asking why don't they get real Indians to play Indians(Native American) now. Hollywood had very little diversity back the. Again fictional characters are terrible examples. Anyone should be able to play a Wolverine and who made the rule Kryptonians are White and why? Asian comic book heroes are Asian because of an Asian audience and illustrator.
What I find hilariously ironic is that the excuse is always "PoC dont sell" meanwhile these films are hated and bomb regardless of casting white people.
@@zeera7080 And that's why Black Panther, Girls Trip, Crazy Rich Asians, Aladdin, The Fast and Furious franchise, and Get Out were bombs🙄 Please take your ignorant bigotry somewhere else
Lmao people are defending white washing but y'all remember when people had a heart attack when there was a black Santa and Idris Elba was considered for James Bond
+Revilo Neeuq Your comment isn't valid unless you can show that the people defending white washing are the same people that bitch about black washing. Everyone who says something that you disagree with isn't automatically part of some homogenous group.

Explosion Productions Blackwashing is Just as Racist as Whitewashing. Blackwashing or forcing a character to be black just to try to be Politically Correct is simply making the Token Black guy in movies have a slightly larger role... I definitely Don't believe in Blackwashing... I do feel that Englishman Idris Elba literally has Everything that it takes to portray James Bond... he's a great actor with good looks, incredible charisma and a very suave style. Being a black British man wouldn't have any bearing on his portrayal of James Bond 007... he's got what it takes to be a Great Bond.
+Jimmy J FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKING HELL Finally some one agrees out there. Token characters are the freakin' pits for me I hate them but for some stupid reason everyone I know is like "Oh that is good because they are just giving more roles to minorities" It is terrible and you never get great performances out of them. You just get boring people doing over used boring jokes.
Otimo instead of coming up with new interesting characters for minorities to play they make them the Comic Relief clowns. It's insulting to them and us...
Didn't they do black face makeup with those Klingons, of course I just thought they were suppose to be wearing war paint and they reminded me of pirates.
Orion Red which is extraordinarily offensive & creepy to boot. I saw it on Mad Men once; soooooo awful. As though there aren't black actors our there in the first place? Come on.
White actors are allowed to fail or are allowed to be built up. Asian actors apparently can't even have a chance to be built, so how can we get bankable actors lmao....
Mel Gibson directed and produce Apocalypto with an entire native American without prior acting experiences and ended up creating a masterpiece. The movie was both critically acclaimed as well as commercially success. Huge respect
What about that blood sodden snuff film he made, Passion Of The Christ? How many Levantine Semitic people did he employ to make that? Even Jesus was cast with a white guy, Mary Magdalen was Italian and his mother was Romanian.
brownandbeautiful35 "his head and hair were white like wool, white as snow, and his eyes like a flame of fire; his feet were like fine brass, if refined in a furnace," rev; 1: 14+15
It´s funny that all those recent examples of whitewashing in movies (Pan, Gods of Egypt, Exodus, Dragon Ball, The Lone Ranger, Aloha) were commercial failures.
Even as a parody movie, while it does feel more appropriate as one than a Hollywood (more like Hellwood) film, it still wouldn’t work considering all the crap it made the audience go through (re: Chi-Chi being even more helpless than in the anime, a drop of sweat being used as an epic special effect and misogynistic senior high school bullies that got more than tipsy like the teenage men they were)
Honestly this movie doesn’t even have the potential to be a parody. The only similarity with dragon ball is that there is actually “dragon ball” in the title
For real, I have been an avid movie fan since well before 2009 and i seriously didn't even know about it until i started watching youtube videos about terrible movies like 2 years ago haha
Is everyone missing the point that the majority of these roles are "whitewashed" because they are played by white actors but still supposed to be the original race within the story. You have white actors playing Egyptians, Native Americans, Asians, and Blacks, and accepted as so in the movie. If the race is important enough to keep it within the story, you should have a character of that race playing the role. If race is unimportant enough that anyone can play the role, then change the race within the story. When Sam Jackson played Nick Fury, he wasn't pretending to be white for the movie, his character was black. However when Laurence Oliver played Othello, Othello's race didn't change to white because it was too central to the story. Oliver just pretended to be black. That's the difference. White actors are pretending to be ethnic races, not just changing the race of the character to white.
You do realize that Egypt has always been a mixture of Caucasian and black, right. The worlds first multiracial state. North Africans are and were pretty much all caucasian. Admittedly none of the actors in the Egyptian roles look Arabic enough, but that is the only problem.
you are correct. its a result of what happens when you take a completely crappy series with a crappy premise, with a crappy writer, with a crappy director and crappy budget, with real crappy cast with crappy characters and crappy music and crappy vfx is always going to be complete crap. The only good thing I can say about it is that its very short, so the torture doesn't drag on. dont even get me started on the dialogue.
Tammy T where in the world did you think that the Hebrews were white? You do know that the Israelites were from the Middle East right? The Middle East is a HOT place, white people would never had survived that type of heat and they would have gotten skin cancer. The only way people would’ve benefited or lived in that area, is if they had dark skin. Sorry to say the Hebrews were never white. If you actually study the middle eastern history and what people look like back then, they were not white. Jesus wasn’t a white man either it was either black, or brown colored.💯
I do feel that Hollywood is an industry serving two masters. On one hand it's more current A-List celebrities are liberals and would welcome diversity but, on the other hand, it's executives and more legendary actors still hold to some traditional and conservative ideals. While is the strange thing because most of America think Hollywood is too political with leftist liberal agenda but it's institutions are still highly conservative. It is still a ways to go until this changes but there is progress. A lot of these A-List celebrities have set up production companies with movies of a more diverse cast. Will Smith and Brad Pitt both come into mind. So hopefully this trend continues.
True, but the artists and the creators of the show drew him as a man with Asian features. The same way as Superman is alien but I'm sure people would have a fit if a man of a different race played him in a movie because he was created with European features.
Yeah, that goes back to Osamu Tezuka, who was inspired by WALT DISNEY and drew his characters with wide eyes for expression reasons. Most characters in anime are JAPANESE or JAPANESE-LOOKING unless their name is foreign, or attention is drawn to their looks or their mannerisms.
The Last Air Bender did something odd: It inversed the races of the characters. The Water benders are meant to be darker skinned Inuit-like people with dark skin, but they became pale skinned and blue eyed. The Fire benders were mostly white, with asian cultural influences, but they became dark skinned and mostly played by Indian or middle eastern actors
I'm not getting involved in any race-based comment war, but I will say that I admire a little authenticity in movies. I hold far more respect to a movie studio who chooses accuracy (or gives it their best shot at least) over casting a big name like Johnny Depp in a misguided attempt to secure more box office gains. I can't watch movies where great actors like Alec Guinness and John Wayne paint their faces without wondering how better the situation would've been if casting hadn't favoured popularity over reality.
wayne morris well i suppose the t think you admire even more is a good movie and one think that is not necersary but pretty helpfuel for that is money and a famous cast helps to get more investores
Eragon Shur'tugal I know, that's very true. However, imagine the guts a bold studio would have to have to demonstrate a difference in order to produce something more authentic.
100% with you. I usually cringe a little when white (or black, or Asian, or whatever) actors are used in roles that were originally written for a specific ethnicity, but it's still up to the director to make the choice. I would have preferred to see an Asian actress playing the Major in Ghost in the Shell, but to be honest, I don't really understand why a live action version was even made. If they're deliberately avoiding "non-white" or "non-any-race", then it's racism. If the director wants to work with a certain actor, or has a vision other than what was originally written, it's a completely different thing. 99 times out of 100, zero racism was involved.
Agreed. I hadn't been very familiar with the story of Argo before I saw it but the cognitive dissonance of Ben Affleck playing a guy named Mendez kind of shifted the movie off kilter for me. The rest of them...ugh. Why are there no 'viable' ethnic actors that could carry a movie? Because no one even gives them a chance to play the ethnic sidekick! (Sup, Tanto?)
Herbert West The interesting thing about Ghost in the Shell and Scarlet Johansson is that, the Japanese support the choice. In their opinion she fits the character. And who knows better than the original target audience. Also, and it may have something to do with anime being marketed for the west, but a lot of anime characters look white/caucasian. I'm not saying it's an excuse; like in the Last Airbender, but Aang looks white. That being sad; I prefer authenticity when possible. I will not support a black James Bond; as well as, I will not support a white Shaft. I'm not a fan of mixing up superheroes ethnicity either; unless in any of the universes created, their ethnicity changed: example, Green Lantern. And gender: Captain Marvel. What seems to be coming from Hollywood recently is them doing whatever the hell they want. And frankly, that attitude does spoil movies for me. It was the issue with black Hermione; where it smacked of casting a black actress just because they could...which was unfortunate for the actress, because she could've truly been the best actress for the job. And I do not care what anyone has to say, Hermione was white because J.K. Rowling made it a point to mention when a character was not in fact white. But, that's just my opinion.
Have you seen the Fullmetal Alchemist live action? It sucks, and one of the reasons is that they wanted a cast full of japanese actors, and obviously they look nothing like the characters (the protagonist is an asian called Edward Elric with a blonde wig). Most of the time anime characters look more like western actors than japanese actors. However, if the story has japanese characters, of course it needs a japanese cast.
Actually, yes. Also I hate it STRONGLY when the anime live action version is played by different race (for example : ATLA live action which is should casted by Asians and AOT live action which is all excepts Mikasa should casted by white actors)
To be fair, even if The Last Airbender had been a full diversified cast, it still wouldn't be saved. You can't take a wonderful, rich and developed anime like Avatar and squish it into a live action movie like that.
The Last Airbender was nothing but a culture wash mix up. None of the perceived race was close. Although I think it may have been risky to accurately represent the races with SJW fanatics on the prowl. Still wasn't the biggest issue, the main actors was horrible. I love almost everything M. Night does, but they should've went for a more comical action director.
Avatar: The Last Airbender wasn't an anime. It was an American production, not from Japan even if partly inspired by anime. That so many mistake it for genuine anime is a testament to how faithful they were to their inspiration.
Never saw it or the show but I feel like that's what they've done with SO many classics especially from my childhood. Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dukes of Hazzard, the list goes on. I just cringe now when I see something I loved as a kid being made into a movie. I used to get excited but I know better now.
There were no mongol actors or extras during the time that movie was made, and very few asian ones...and none with enough acting credentials, really. And besides, you went to a John Wayne movie to see John Wayne.
And ultimately this movie may have killed John Wayne. It is said the movie sets were radioactive from a recent nuclear test. And 90 of the 200+ cast and crew ultimately died from cancer (including John Wayne and Susan Hayward). www.imdb.com/title/tt0049092/trivia?item=tr0703123 And although Alamandorius is right, at the time, there were not that many Asian actors in Hollywood. Just 2 years after this movie was released, John Wayne starred in another movie where the Asians were really portrayed by Asians (the Barbarian and the Geisha) www.imdb.com/title/tt0051398/?ref_=nm_knf_t1 At least John Wayne looks somewhat Mongol (his accent doesn't) Susan Hayward, who plays Borte / Bortai, looks far less so.

thats not true. The triggered white people are at the bottom of the comments cause they got no likes. CHange your filter on your comments. The people calling out whites got a bunch of likes so they are at the top and are showing more.
Mel Gibson does his homework. He even made sure to depict the language as close to the original as possible. It is one of my personal favorites. Thank you for your comment.
Check about that again it is common knowledge that Egyptians had both white and black race they were diverse, and yeah even dark skin Arabians are part of white race Caucasian race I just don't understand why people care so much if the character in the movie is same color as actor who plays it.
do not be ignorant the ancient Egyptians were all black, this fact only changed with the arrival of the Arabs. nowadays they are mestizos (blacks and arabs). Westerners have had no influence on the Egyptians, it is good that this is clear ... the Egyptian natives (who have not had contact with Arabs) have black skin.

Banana Bread Recipe Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 55 minutes Yield: Makes one loaf No need for a mixer for this recipe! Clean-up is easy too, if you want, you can mix everything in one mixing bowl. The best bananas to use for banana bread are those that are over-ripe. The yellow peels should be at least half browned, and the bananas inside squishy and browning. Ingredients 2 to 3 very ripe bananas, peeled 1/3 cup melted butter 1 teaspoon baking soda Pinch of salt 3/4 cup sugar (1/2 cup if you would like it less sweet, 1 cup if more sweet) 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour Method 1 Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and butter a 4x8-inch loaf pan. 2 In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until completely smooth. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas. 3 Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour. 4 Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour at 350°F (175°C), or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean. 5 Remove from oven and let cool in the pan for a few minutes. Then remove the banana bread from the pan and let cool completely before serving. Slice and serve. (A bread knife helps to make slices that aren't crumbly.)
Actually, she is described as "Indian," which was the term used at that time for "Native American." It wasn't Disney that started it. By that definition, Tiger Lily shouldn't even have a British accent, let alone be white.
How about we cast people according to how good of an actor they and how well they would be at portraying the role and not worry that their heritage will ruin their portrayal of the character? Just a crazy idea here...
Let me put it this way. Would you cast a white person to play Martin Luther King Jr.? Also, the TV series "Once Upon a Time" didn't seem to have much trouble casting a Native American actress as Tiger Lily. She was pretty good too.
If it means having a better actor play the character? Yes. I would rather they cast scarlett johansson as mulan than have the movie botched by some C-grade asian actress because people decided my race was more important.
I'm not really sure what to put that's just sick. we've already had Johanson play a white-washed role. plus there are plenty of talented Asian actresses out there who hardly get the chance cuz Hollywood chooses fame over race AND talent (sorry, but I have yet to be impressed with Scarlet Johanson)
Incorrect, the shell (body, skin, or outer appearance) that she inhabited was based on western Russian people according the manga, her brain was Japanese. So that was fairly accurate and shows that you didn't take note of the source material but jumped on the faux woke train.
I honestly bet half of you didn't even watch the video, you just disliked the video and shared your dumbass opinion in the comments just because you thought it was too "PC".
Haman Karn Gods of Egypt. Egypt is in Africa. Ancient Egypt had Egyptians. Egyptians are black. Their god were portrayed as black. Yet in the movie it's filled with white people. It's that kind of stuff that I'm talking about. That's called whitewashing.
The director off "Death Note" actually was asked the same question and even though he made a bad movie his answer was really on point and in reality yes it is a huge problem, especially when all main stream movies are in english. They mostly look for the best performance and not the right ethnic background, when you put the language barrier , specific looks of a character (from anime, books, or video games), your choices become so limited that you end up with few , decent at best actors. It's really rare to find someone who will be 100% perfect for the role.
ThickAc yes O agree with this, though I’d think a casting Agents would probably be able to find a good Asian actor with the right resources But in the other hand if they actively sought out an English speaking Japanese actor the performance would not be best since The Asian accent isn’t exactly known to be the most comprehensible
A Jam mermaids are myths idiot get over it when we stalk about whitewashing no one speaks up but when w black girl plays a white characters it’s a problem lol hypocrite 😂😂😂🥴 So bye
It sucked as a movie but Goku isn't even human, so I'm not sure why it's even listed. I won't be surprised if they add Ghost in the shell to this, even though the director of the original anime chose Scarlet himself and used Bulgarian choir music for much of the soundtrack in the first run and pulled from a bunch of other European influences as well. Then there was that time people called whitewashing on a guy playing an Egyptian character when the actor was actually ethnically Egyptian himself...
I absolutely agree with the entire cast of The Last Airbender being on this list. Not one of them portrayed anything close to what the creators had in mind. Maybe one day, we'll get a faithful adaptation.
just no. there are so many ppl up in arms over a black mary jane in the new spiderman and there were ppl complaining about the new fantastic 4 which had a black human torch.
+dark1alucard Yep whenever there's one change where a POC portrays a white character (which only happens rarely and in fictional cases) we can never hear the end of it. Wheres with whitewashing is usually very very often and most times inspired by real people in real stories or places. But they just tell you brush it off and that the white actor was just a better performer.
all I can remember is how white folks lost their shot when they cast a black girl to play Rue in The Hunger Games and she was black in the book now how's that for irony
I was complaining about the new fantastic 4. THEY MADE THE SISTER WHITE AND THE BROTHER BLACK. Omg let's fix it, we make her adopted. OMFG NO. NO! How am I racist for wanting the brother AND the sister to be of the same race. I don't care if they are black, just make them the same. Personally, I'm surprised that the black community isn't upset about this either. Ok we are going to blackwash, but just 1, we are going to change the family in order to blackwash only 1 instead of 2. Well we could blackwash another character? Well, Human Torch. Ah ashes, I get it. Like really? Why weren't you upset?
As a full blood native I must say thank you Mojo thank you. Johnny Depp was a joke even though half the time I like him, and Rooney Mara even admitted she felt ashamed for taking the role as Tiger Lily which was a major slap in the face. So sad only white people saying race doesn't matter well you wouldn't be saying that if we had a Latino play as JFK now would you...
*So sad only white people saying race doesn't matter* What makes them the least racist demographic group. And yes, the ethnicity of actors playing *fictional* charakters is mostly trivial. John Wayne as Khan -> huge mistake Cumberbatch as Khan -> absolutely Ok
Steven Freeman I never said they were the least racist demographic. Asia has some pretty messed up issues to. It's not trivial when the character was created purposely as a specific race. That would be like a white girl being casted as Rue in the Hunger Games that would have caused an uproar. Even Jennifer Lawrence said she would have been upset if a white girl was given the part
Let's not even talk of the *Netflix live action of Death Note, lol, L was black in the live action, but he's literally part Russian in the anime, wtf, and Light is a white boi. Aaaaahhhh just make them the same as the anime.
I'm black and I didn't like the fact they casted a black L. Honestly the entire cast was all kinds of wrong w/the exception of Willem Dafoe voicing Ryuk. The movie was horrible. the anime was exceptional.
Pyrrhos Dauvet no, but he's biologically russian, English, Japanese and French. I get that people of color can live anywhere, but that's not his ethnicity
Christina Jones I know that the video is about white washing, but I'm talking about racial misrepresentation. There are people commenting 'first' hours after the notification, take your rudeness in that general direction. :)
According to the bible, there wasn't yet race in Noah's times. It would be Noah's three sons and their descendants, who would bring race to the world, with Japhet being the ancestor of white people/Europeans, Ham being the ancestor of black people/Africans and Shem being the ancestor of middle eastern people, so Jews, Arabs, Assyrians and the like (Semites).
*Who came here after Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in the Little Mermaid...* Where was all this outrage from White people when all these movies came out 😂😒
Allah means the one god in arabic it's just a name of many names he goes by and he is not a human. why always depect god as a human, this only shows that humans are arrogants and can not imagine god in other form than a human form. look arround you theres is infinite forms and shapes, why a human? and besides the whole premise of a god, a unique entity means he's not like anything else.
@@brandonf.8360 it was criticized by dumb ass white knights and SJW's who thought they were being "vocal" when in reality they were being stupid. that's not what people are saying about mixed Mary Jane in the new spiderman. the outrage over that is massive. that statement either goes both ways or neither.
Possibly because the movie was Titled "Thor", not Heimdall. Also because Norse mythology, is just mythology, and Heimdall could have gotten a really good tan.
Savant Poland it's not a movie about "Viking" gods. It's based on a comic book series that is extremely loosely based on Norse mythology so that is not really a good argument. Marvel's Thor is not a mythological figure
Actually as a Scandinavian, it bugged me. The one Asian god was from a different world, it was explainable, but Heimdall, literally THE whitest of all the very white gods, was cast by a black man. I personally love Idris Elba, but if you're gonna shit all over mythology, why not at least not make THe whitest god very, very black?
Why is nobody talking about Shrek 2 white wash? When Shrek becomes human he becomes white, I find that disrecpectul towards his natural green skin. And even Donkey becomes white when he drank the potion of beauty, as if being white is the ultimate beauty!
Maybe because it's based on European fairy tales? This is why I unsubscribed from this channel. It's helping to spread senseless and baseless resentment.
Bro,it's called an animated movie, and the characters are fictional,so no big deal.Maybe you should be looking at Planet 51,where Dwayne Johnson voiced Chuck the astronaut, and Chuck is white, whereas you can tell Dwayne is black underneath his light skin.
England has cast black people in traditionally non-black rolls, i think they have had a king or queen portrayed by black people, usually became a moot point with good actors
The most ironic part of not having ethnic bankable actors is that studios feel white actors sprout out of earth as bankable actors. If you can turn a debut white actor to a bankable star, then the same can be done to ethnically diverse actors too.
SO TRUE. The irony I've seen in Hollywood over the past 40 years is that it's a self fulfilling prophecy. the only real break out stars were black trailblazers like Sidney Poitier in the 1950s. HE became the first A lister Black actor to headline a 'white film'. Now Black stars are everywhere. They have A-Listers like Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Viola Davis, etc. but Hollywood seemed to think "We got black talent out there ... why allow anyone else in?" It's a weird subtle racism against everyone BUT black performers. Hollywood sees only white and black actors for the vast majority of roles. (It's very 60s mindset lol) But in order for black stars to make it, filmmakers have to GIVE minority actors a chance at lesser roles into order to build careers into bigger ones. You can't get a bankable star if the actor(s) are never given a shot in the first place. Hollywood gives little opportunity to ASIANS (mostly), pacific islanders, native americans, and other groups. Their directors and casting directors just don't see a problem. They're oblivious to it.
The USA is predominantly white there are simply going to be more bankable white actors. Also the main target is usually the majority of the population, which is white.
The same people who disliked this for pointing out white-washing are the same ones who went crazy on social media about Ariel being played by a black girl lol
Here is another dishonourable racist whitewashing: The Lone Ranger is based on a number of real men, all of whom were black. In addition, the character might have also been based on the Buffalo Soldiers. Buffalo Soldiers originally were members of the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army, formed on September 21, 1866, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This nickname was given to the "Negro Cavalry" by the Native American tribes they fought in the Indian Wars. The term eventually became synonymous with all of the African American regiments formed in 1866: 9th Cavalry Regiment 10th Cavalry Regiment 24th Infantry Regiment 25th Infantry Regiment Buffalo Soldiers Buffalo soldiers1.jpg Buffalo Soldiers of the 25th Infantry Regiment in 1890 Active 1866-1951 Country United States of America Branch United States Army Nickname(s) "Buffalo Soldiers" Engagements American Indian Wars Spanish-American War Philippine-American War Border War World War I World War II Although several African American regiments were raised during the Civil War as part of the Union Army (including the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and the many United States Colored Troops Regiments), the "Buffalo Soldiers" were established by Congress as the first peacetime all-black regiments in the regular U.S. Army. On September 6, 2005, Mark Matthews, who was the last living Buffalo Soldier, died at the age of 111. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
They are not in denial. They have common sense. It happens alot too with other races but nobody bats an eye. If you think other races should be allowed to steal roles, but whites are not, that makes you the racist.
don't even get me started on the last airbender, that movie was a complete disaster just for having the cast they did, totally misrepresented the amazingly original animated series
@Christian Bryant Yeh it was invented by white people... so what? That doesn't mean the characters are white. In fact, the Earth Kingdom represents China, the Fire Nation represents Japan, the Air Nomads are basically Tibetan monks, and the Water Tribe is probably based on the Inuits or some other native Siberian tribe. In the movie they blatantly whitewashed the "good guys", especially Sokka and Katara who -- as members of the Water Tribe -- have the darkest complexions out of anyone in the group. Not only that, but they then proceeded to change the Fire Nation, who are the "villains" of the story, into a blend of India meets the Middle East. So yeah, agreeing with Zewdae, the movie totally misrepresented the original animated series, whilst also being legit racist. And before anyone brings up the "oh but actors should be chosen based on talent, not on looks", I am sorry to inform that the acting in The Last Airbender was terrible! None of the actors managed to capture the essence and the complexities of their animated series counterparts. To be honest it was just a bad movie all around... bad script, bad directing, bad CGI... but the bad acting and even worst casting choices are downright insulting to the fans of the original series.
@Christian Bryant Sweetie just because a movie is made by white people doesn't mean they get to ignore the GENETICS of the people who live in different areas of the world lol. Imagine a Viking movie set in early 800's Norway, but with an all east Asian cast, or an all African cast... ridiculous right? Yep. Why? Because Vikings weren't bloody Japanese, or Korean, or Nigerian, or Ethiopian... they were Nordic!! ! Well yeah, you know what's equally ridiculous? Having an all white cast for a movie set in China, Tibet, Egypt, Congo, Iran, or any other country where there are barely any white people. If white film producers have issues with hiring actors form other ethnical backgrounds, maybe they shouldn't be making movies set in their countries, depicting their culture, and exploring their history. If you choose to make a movie set in someone else's country the least you can do is show some respect for their cultural and ethnic background. If you are a racist bigot and don't know how to be respectful, just don't make a movie set anywhere else other than your little self centred bubble. Problem solved :)
@Christian Bryant Well, as I said in my previous comment, equally ridiculous. Having an all black or all Asian cast play Nordic vikings is as inaccurate as having an all white cast in a movie set in the Middle East. Just because both "sides" are in the wrong and are making the same mistake, it does not mean that their actions become justified or any less erroneous. I think the world of cinema would be a much better place if producers and directors as a whole, independent of their ethnic background, tried to be more respectful and appreciative of the cultures and societies they choose to portray in their movies.
Christian Bryant Are you sure about that? Chris Rock recently came out that he had to fight to keep the mother on Everybody Hated Chris black. Studios barely want to find black productions, plenty of black directors/writers/show runners have said this. So just say you’re racist and move on...
@@-ree-4614 This is called a 'joke'. Please look it up. Before the 2010s, these were VERY popular. Also look up 'sarcasm'. The Hollywood machine is apparently not some free zone where filmmakers are given millions to do whatever they want (except rare cases). The execs are usually pushing their agenda and mostly, esp. around the time when this came out, that includes making as many roles as white as possible. I don't know if M. Night takes all the blame but I think he was able to put some Indian actors in where he could. I don't think it was his choice alone to put those kids in the lead roles. The same thing happened with The Matrix. After offering the role to Will Smith (as from the source material), when he turned it down, the execs immediately brought up Keanu Reeves, a white actor. Anyway, I hope this clarifies a little what I meant. I think any group wants to see more of themselves on-screen. Also I DO lament the death of sarcasm. Oh well.
@@c.j.thedude Sorry! I was in a bad mood that time.....I was terribly upset for the casting of Indians in the villain roles....As you said any group of people would like to see more of themselves on-screen.... I AM THANKFUL THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU DO EXIST! Sorry for misunderstanding you....i will delete the comment...NICE TO MEET YA
Goddamn you people are obsessed with color and being politically correct. Know why Samuel Jackson kicks ass at being Nick Fury? Not because he's a black guy black in a white role and appeasing the SJWs, but because he gives the character depth and balls and fucking charisma. Why did that kid sucked as being a black Human Torch? Because, come on, we don't need a black Human Torch. That's just silly!
***** your point defeats his narrative, so how dare you bring it up...they are struggling to find ways to make this not about race and when you bring in logic it hurts their case.......hahahahaha
+Damian Cunliffe exactly. And the thumbs down ratio is climbing pretty close to surpassing the thumbs up ratio. That gives me the impression that the majority think this subject is blown a bit out of preposition and isn't really that big of a deal anymore. But I admit, seeing a white Tiger Lilly kind of annoyed me though. lol
Because no one got angry when a black girl was cast as Hermione in the broadway version of Harry Potter. And no one said a damn thing when Tony Stark was replaced by a black girl in the comics. Yup, not like there were hordes of angry nerds after this shit happened.

I actually found out there is a reason Sokka and Katara were white in the movie. Someone who worked on the movie (can’t remember who) wanted his daughter to play Katara. He forced his daughter on the movie and obviously his daughter was white so they had to cast a white actor as Sokka because the actors needed to look like siblings.
White actor playing color characters = wrong and offensive. Color actors playing white characters = ohh.... a character can be color as long as the actor is good and respects the essence of the source, WE ARE SO POLITICALLY CORRECT AND INCLUSIVE!!
when has that happened? It's only happened in fictional stories like mary jane being black in the next spiderman. FICTIONAL FAKE STORIES. mary jane is from new york where there is a big chance she could be black. however whites whitewash stories that are supposed to be "historically correct" or are taking place in times and areas where there were no whites lol. not the same
+connecta why does it matter if they're fictional? Just cuz the character doesn't exist in real life does not mean they don't have a way they are suppose to look. Yes, Mary Jane is from New York, where'd you get that information? Oh yeah, the comics where the character originated that also say she is white, a redhead, and has green eyes. That is her, just cuz she didn't ever exist in real life doesn't mean it's now ok to change who she is
M&M Kitty Yea well the CREATORS of the character, as in the reason why you even have the characters in the first place are fine with it they actually love it. They even made a black spiderman but you guys would still cry if they used that spiderman instead of the white one. Same with James Bond, the creator loved the idea of Idris being the bond yet the racist fans thought it wasnt gonna be the real bond, even though the creator said "yes it would"
Probably because this video went up on September 4th of 2016 and _Ghost in the Shell_ didn't come out until March 29th of 2017. Very little was known about that movie when this was published and I think a lot of people at the time were expecting/hoping for a recast after all the backlash from the casting announcement.
Putting white actors in primary Egyptian roles is like putting blacks as main Norse and Greek mythology characters. It just doesn't make sense. Just my two cents...
you see how they did Idris Elba when he played on Thor but I kind of feel that one I don't like when they change characters who were clearly a color just for the sake of it like Nick Fury whose father was a World War 1 hero don't know too many black guys in World War 1 surely not decorated Heroes
They made nick fury black in the movies because in the Ultimates universe of the comics, he's black and his character design was based on Samuel L. Jackson.
Hispanics are an ethnicity not a race. Tony Mendez was a white Hispanic, so it is therefore not whitewashing to have a white actor like Ben Affleck portray him.
GiacoC dragon Ball in Libe-Action is like a Kamen Rider movie where all the monsters are CG Yes I know the more recent series have CG monsters but those are usually few and far between I mean ALL CG MONSTERS
Since people don't seem to get this, I'll say it. You shouldn't change the race/cast an actor of a different race than what the character is supposed to be. Whether you cast a white actor for a non white role, or a non white actor for a white roll. I was equally annoyed when they changed the race of the Human Torch for the new Fantastic 4 movie as when they're casting Scarlett Johansson to play Motoko in the live action Ghost in the Shell movie coming out.
to be fair, Motoko was a cyborg and had caucasian features like blue eyes. even if the action was in japan, the "shell" Motoko use might not be so "asian" .
truli91 Yes it's not her original body so for all we know she could have been a black dude since in the 1995 movie she doesn't even seem to view herself as any type of gender
Tony Biebel how about when they cast idris Elba as heimdall in Thor or Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie in Thor ragnarok ,I guess we can call that blackwash.
nanaya shiki in the original movie she has blue eyes and black hair. oh so if white people.defend themself they are white supramacist? that fucked up.logic is that?
LMAO, who here remembers that episode of The Chappelle Show when Paul Mooney said next they're going to do a movie called "The Last Nigga on Earth" starring Tom Hanks? XD
I still love the fact that a whole bunch of people flipped out about Rue being cast as an African-American girl. She was black in the books people. At least they got that casting right in the movie.
+Tai Davis Kusanagi Motoko is almost certainly an alias adopted by the Major. Given the GIT:SAC origin information we have for her, nobody has any certain idea what her original name or ethnicity were other than the author. She swapped bodies whenever she wanted and could therefore look like whatever she wanted. Also, there is more than one continuity for this milieu, and so she could easily have more than one origin; she certainly had different personalities between the milieus.
In my opinion, if a movie is basing it's story off a true historical figure then the actor playing those roles should be played by the same skin colour as those people to create a more realistic representation. So for example a white person should play Abraham Lincoln and a black person should play Martin Luther King. If it's a completely fictional movie idc who the actors are as long as they do a good job. If it's a fictional movie but has true cultural aspects to it such as anime or ancient Egypt then they should get actors that are representative of those cultures. Doesn't matter if it's fake it should still be accurate. Just my opinion
Menthisis I think it's quite easy to handle: Many Animes (the same counts for western animations) have a realistic setting. If the setting is eg. Japan, it absolutely needs Japanese actors, the same with every other country. If it's fictional, but loosely based on a culture and/or period, it should be roughly accurate (as an example European/white American actors for a story based on the middle ages in France). If it's completely fictional, it is quite difficult. If there are lots of characters with blonde hair and blue eyes, it would probably look ridiculous to cast Asian actors only, even if they were sort of intended to be Asian. In this case, I'd say they should probably mix, if there isn't a lack of range.
digital-underworld I really enjoyed it when i watched it though i was 13 or 14 (16 now) Im gonna have to rewatch because i really didn't think it was bad at all.
It's a ground-up disaster. Complaining that the Japanese-inspired Fire Nation characters were all Indian, or that the Tibetan-inspired Aang was white, or that the arguably Polynesian Water Tribe characters were white, is like complaining that your cat-shit taco is undercooked - sure, it's a valid critique, but it's still a cat-shit taco.
Awww man talk about adding insult to injury...and people like to claim those were the “good old days”...yup back where no one cared if you were exposed to deadly radiation just so long as they got paid :p
Back in the good ol' days when John Wayne himself smoked 4-5 packs of cigarettes a day( I'm sure he wasn't alone in his habit) it's hard to blame a location shoot for the casts and crews dying young.
My list includes Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusinagi (though the "ethnicity" of her cyborg body is never explicitly mentioned, it's generally assumed to be Japanese from her name, home, and the Japanese attitude towards outsiders) and Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen (I've heard the books describe her as "olive skinned").
AngelinBlack I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Lawrence is more appropriately described as having fair skin. And from what little I've seen of the movies, she's definitely portrayed as extremely fair skinned.
PEOPLE olives come in these colors: Green, Brown, and Black. So why the white community loves to say "olive" it makes no sense. But yes Katniss is white.
+white olives are a thing too you know? A brief google of olive skin tone would have given you this result "Olive skin is a human skin color spectrum. It is often associated with pigmentation in the Type IV to Type V range of the Fitzpatrick scale. It generally refers to light or moderate brown, brownish, or tannish skin, and it is often described as having yellowish, greenish, or golden undertones." So yeah you're wrong you racist moron.
lmao I wish actors of color were judged on their ability to portray any character (and were given roles in consequences)... and yet they're not. Cause those roles go to white actors
+Virus Reaper True. Anime specifically emulates Anglo Saxon characteristics (mostly anyway) because that's their aesthetic. Just because something is made in Japan doesn't mean the creators wanted it to be specifically Japanese. The only people I have seen whining about casting white people in Anime roles are people who aren't even Japanese. No one bothers to ask Japanese people what they think of representations of their own art outside of their paradigm. Which is quite telling IMO. I'm sick of white people getting offended for me. Telling me how oppressed I am. In saying that though Dragonball Evolution can rot in hell.
Things like that suck thought because there was an opportunity to cast a minority, but it wasn't taken. There is always an opportunity to cast white people, and a lot of popular movies and show have a predominantly white cast. So it gets a little irritating sometimes.
Lol so some people think even anime is racist? Despite the stylistic choices being deliberate by the Japanese animators, emulating certain characteristics? Cry racist all you like SJWs, sooner or later you will do it so much it will drown the actual cases out and the cause will be damaged, not helped. But I guess playing the race card enough times means sooner or later you luck out and it actually works.
I think what OP means is that he's waiting for people to say "omg they only use people that look somewhat similar (Pleeeaaase don't say that this is racist. every kind of ethnicity has a certain way they look.). I want a black person to play the main character instead of for example shahrukh khan and a british dude in this mainly indian family" or something like that :)
BawdSpeellar First that's just a dumbass comment because India is racially homogenous. Secondly if you want to talk to talk about facts, bollywood is mainly casting lightskinned women which is a big problem there
Sagar Sagar ? I don't get your point here, I really have no idea what this has to do with my comment in which I simply tried to help explain what op meant...?

I actually thought the movie was good. And the kid who played Ang is actually a black belt.

White actors are pretending to be ethnic races, not just changing the race of the character to white.
soooo by that logic, a few of the ones in this video are no biggy then. good to know.
your just triggered thats why you had to make that comment
You do realize that Egypt has always been a mixture of Caucasian and black, right. The worlds first multiracial state. North Africans are and were pretty much all caucasian. Admittedly none of the actors in the Egyptian roles look Arabic enough, but that is the only problem.

...i just found out goku was "asain"... i always thought he was a saiyan... -_-
Every character in an anime-to-live-action adaptation has to be Japanese.
Because the anime characters all look so distinctly Asian...
you haven't seen ghost in the shell live action trailer have you? it is about as bad as the last air bender and dragon ball revolution.
you are correct. its a result of what happens when you take a completely crappy series with a crappy premise, with a crappy writer, with a crappy director and crappy budget, with real crappy cast with crappy characters and crappy music and crappy vfx is always going to be complete crap. The only good thing I can say about it is that its very short, so the torture doesn't drag on. dont even get me started on the dialogue.
Wrod of Dog even anime series that don't take place in Japan. XD
"there aren't any bankable Asian actors" of course there aren't if Hollywood hardly hires any
might have something to do with the fact there aren't that many asians in america
Filip Dvořák haverá you been to America?
don't need to, there is about five percent in there, that is not much.
but there's a bunch of asian actors there, so I'm pretty sure hollywood can hire at least one for a leading role. It's not that hard.
AztecMaiden Jett Lee, Donnie yen,Jackie chan,Tony jaa there is heaps of them but Hollywood doesn't use them :/
How about Moses being played by a white man instead of a hebrew
What about what
Moses is not white though 🤷♀️
Emily Perez in the movie he is played by a British white guy
There is a difference between Jews that moved to Europe and those that didn't leave the middle east .
Why can't Hollywood and media "empires" show us how to accept racial diversity? We continue treating us like foes intead of one thing: Human beings

Uuuuh... they’re “RACISTS”🤷🏽♂️
Goku is not Japanese. He isn't even Human
He lives down the street from me....wait that's Gako sorry!!
True, but the artists and the creators of the show drew him as a man with Asian features.
The same way as Superman is alien but I'm sure people would have a fit if a man of a different race played him in a movie because he was created with European features.
but anime characters don't really look Japanese
Yeah, that goes back to Osamu Tezuka, who was inspired by WALT DISNEY and drew his characters with wide eyes for expression reasons. Most characters in anime are JAPANESE or JAPANESE-LOOKING unless their name is foreign, or attention is drawn to their looks or their mannerisms.
Can I get an amen from you?
When they're movies based on something historically and you pick someone not of color to portray.. That's the issues
right lol
yeah but who cares if they had white people playing them ? is it a crime not too
Other countries remake movies with their people and we don't get mad
But nobody cares when they did it for Hamilton? It's only an issue when it's a white person doing it?
Please do name some prominent actors from that time who would of played the part?

Goku didn't need to be asian or anything, since he is of an alien race.. but he should've definitely been better casted. Terrible movie.
The Last Air Bender did something odd:
It inversed the races of the characters.
The Water benders are meant to be darker skinned Inuit-like people with dark skin, but they became pale skinned and blue eyed.
The Fire benders were mostly white, with asian cultural influences, but they became dark skinned and mostly played by Indian or middle eastern actors
Vince SC That whole movie should have been better. Casting was the least of it's problems!
Well to be fair, Water tribe people in the show are blue-eyed. Every nation's eye color corresponds to their element.
That was the least of that movie's problems
But Goku is based on Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong is one of asian mythologies.
It's probably best if Asian or Asian/American took the role.
I can't watch movies where great actors like Alec Guinness and John Wayne paint their faces without wondering how better the situation would've been if casting hadn't favoured popularity over reality.
wayne morris well i suppose the t think you admire even more is a good movie and one think that is not necersary but pretty helpfuel for that is money and a famous cast helps to
get more investores
But, that's just my opinion.
pretty much all live-action anime movies
Have you seen the Fullmetal Alchemist live action? It sucks, and one of the reasons is that they wanted a cast full of japanese actors, and obviously they look nothing like the characters (the protagonist is an asian called Edward Elric with a blonde wig). Most of the time anime characters look more like western actors than japanese actors. However, if the story has japanese characters, of course it needs a japanese cast.
Except those from japan
Actually, yes. Also I hate it STRONGLY when the anime live action version is played by different race (for example : ATLA live action which is should casted by Asians and AOT live action which is all excepts Mikasa should casted by white actors)
To be fair, even if The Last Airbender had been a full diversified cast, it still wouldn't be saved. You can't take a wonderful, rich and developed anime like Avatar and squish it into a live action movie like that.
Jonny93 I though the movie was fantastic, I personally loved it. Why didn’t you like it?
I used to get excited but I know better now.
we are not talking about performance of the movie here.
John Wayne even speaks like a cowboy in his portrayal of Genghis Khan. The whole film is like a costume party.
And 90 of the 200+ cast and crew ultimately died from cancer (including John Wayne and Susan Hayward). www.imdb.com/title/tt0049092/trivia?item=tr0703123
And although Alamandorius is right, at the time, there were not that many Asian actors in Hollywood. Just 2 years after this movie was released, John Wayne starred in another movie where the Asians were really portrayed by Asians (the Barbarian and the Geisha) www.imdb.com/title/tt0051398/?ref_=nm_knf_t1
At least John Wayne looks somewhat Mongol (his accent doesn't) Susan Hayward, who plays Borte / Bortai, looks far less so.
Like smoking, people didn't take radiation seriously as much as today.

What the fuck is forced diversity? How the fuck would you know it's forced? Like Annie said, the world isn't completely made up of white people.

Banana Bread Recipe
Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 55 minutes Yield: Makes one loaf
No need for a mixer for this recipe! Clean-up is easy too, if you want, you can mix everything in one mixing bowl.
The best bananas to use for banana bread are those that are over-ripe. The yellow peels should be at least half browned, and the bananas inside squishy and browning.
Ingredients
2 to 3 very ripe bananas, peeled
1/3 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
3/4 cup sugar (1/2 cup if you would like it less sweet, 1 cup if more sweet)
1 large egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
Method
1 Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and butter a 4x8-inch loaf pan.

How about we start casting people accordingly to books/historical background? Just a crazy idea here...
You forgot Scarlett Johansson in Ghost In The Shell

Would it hurt soooo much to find someone with the right ethnicity?
The director off "Death Note" actually was asked the same question and even though he made a bad movie his answer was really on point and in reality yes it is a huge problem, especially when all main stream movies are in english. They mostly look for the best performance and not the right ethnic background, when you put the language barrier , specific looks of a character (from anime, books, or video games), your choices become so limited that you end up with few , decent at best actors. It's really rare to find someone who will be 100% perfect for the role.
Julia Lopez what if the people with that nationality auditioned and really really sucked

Taryn M Yeah, it's not like they could get any real life Siayans to play Goku, you know, because they're extinct..
I absolutely agree with the entire cast of The Last Airbender being on this list. Not one of them portrayed anything close to what the creators had in mind. Maybe one day, we'll get a faithful adaptation.

Sad part is most white people does not see anything wrong with it.
Why should we? There exists also blackwashing but we never hear of that
just no. there are so many ppl up in arms over a black mary jane in the new spiderman and there were ppl complaining about the new fantastic 4 which had a black human torch.

What makes them the least racist demographic group.
And yes, the ethnicity of actors playing *fictional* charakters is mostly trivial.
John Wayne as Khan -> huge mistake
Cumberbatch as Khan -> absolutely Ok
Steven Freeman I never said they were the least racist demographic. Asia has some pretty messed up issues to. It's not trivial when the character was created purposely as a specific race. That would be like a white girl being casted as Rue in the Hunger Games that would have caused an uproar. Even Jennifer Lawrence said she would have been upset if a white girl was given the part
Kinda funny you mentioned that cause wasn't Katniss suppose to be non-white? Maybe even native american, I can't remember exactly.
Lol. One is a fictional character while another is a historical figure. Same thing can be said if an Asian guy is playing the role of Abraham Lincoln.
Ossie Davis played JFK in Bubba-ho-tep.

your comment makes no sense. This list said whitewashed. That is about race.
According to the bible, there wasn't yet race in Noah's times. It would be Noah's three sons and their descendants, who would bring race to the world, with Japhet being the ancestor of white people/Europeans, Ham being the ancestor of black people/Africans and Shem being the ancestor of middle eastern people, so Jews, Arabs, Assyrians and the like (Semites).

hey ignorant fool People were REALLY pissed off when Ghost in the shell was starred by Scarlet Johanson instead of an ACTUAL asian woman
Exactly 🗣️🗣️
@@ironmaster6496 I'm pretty sure any smart person would not care if a white woman played an Asian character
We all know what race is the best,
Human race
No we're the worst race
Human species
really now.. how??
Fuuuuck up
we aren't worse or better than any race we are all the same
if Emma Stone didn't like the role, (supposedly) why the hell did she get into it? that's bullshit

interesting that the speaker didn't mention that Moses (who should have been played by a hebrew) was played by the white actor Christian Bale.
ivkekosovo MOSES (LEVITE) AND KING DAVID (JUDAH)!!(BLACK PEOPLE)(right click-new tab for pictures)

because most white americans are christians and go to church and when they get told those stories they imagine them as white
its called lying about history

Allah means the one god in arabic it's just a name of many names he goes by and he is not a human. why always depect god as a human, this only shows that humans are arrogants and can not imagine god in other form than a human form. look arround you theres is infinite forms and shapes, why a human? and besides the whole premise of a god, a unique entity means he's not like anything else.
Dragonball, Death Note, Ghost in the Shell
@obsidianorchids How's that if GITS was criticized for being white washed, how dumb do you sound?
Blacks protest and talk about it . Asians do not. They need to speak up .
@@brandonf.8360 it was criticized by dumb ass white knights and SJW's who thought they were being "vocal" when in reality they were being stupid. The creator of the Manga himself said it was a great casting choice because, get this, THE SHELL IS WHITE WHILE THE GHOST IS ASIAN. In the beginning the woman cast as the main character is Asian, but she dies and becomes the "Ghost" inside the "Shell" which is the Major - you know SarJo. It's called Ghost in the Shell for a reason and I feel like a lot of you dumb ass kids don't understand WHY it's called that because you never actually heard of it until the movie but just wanted to bitch about "Whitewashing" when there was none.
@@parkerxjr So there are more Asians on earth than whites...also more blacks than whites.
how did it happen that they need to speak up? Ever thought about that?
Major in GITS has literally a Robotic body, Race doesnt really matter
Beginning of video: We won't include cases of black face here.
Shows Lawrence Olivier in Blackface as Othello.
She said for comedic purposes. Othello's blackface wasn't meant to be funny, it was to portray the character as he was written; black. But they didn't cast a black person cause it was the 60's :/
They mean for comedy. Breakfast at Tiffany's for example was done for comic effect. Othello was a serious film. The role was not comical.
I guess you just skipped over the entire beginning of the video
If race or historical accuracy isn't an integral part to the plot of the movie, then it shouldn't matter who plays the main character(s).
Which is why these movies are on the list
You right im about to make a movie about the Beetles and cast them as the Migos :)
"The beetles"
- a white person
that's not what people are saying about mixed Mary Jane in the new spiderman. the outrage over that is massive. that statement either goes both ways or neither.
Yeah, but when Heimdall ("THE WHITEST AMONG GODS") is portrayed by a black in a movie about fucking viking gods nobody bats an eye.
Possibly because the movie was Titled "Thor", not Heimdall. Also because Norse mythology, is just mythology, and Heimdall could have gotten a really good tan.
gods can change their shape
Wow, never thought about that
lol
Maybe because it's based on European fairy tales?
This is why I unsubscribed from this channel. It's helping to spread senseless and baseless resentment.

but the voice actor for donkey is eddie murphy lol
Bro,it's called an animated movie, and the characters are fictional,so no big deal.Maybe you should be looking at Planet 51,where Dwayne Johnson voiced Chuck the astronaut, and Chuck is white, whereas you can tell Dwayne is black underneath his light skin.
before watching, I'm guessing Avatar the last airbender - entire cast as #1
Oh so close
+Justin Carpenter At least Benedict Cumberbatch (KHAN! - Star Trek Into Darkness) wasn't on the list
Me too!
i can't wait till a movie about George Washington is played by an asian man
That'll be the day shit goes down.😂
I want to see a black George Washington. But I'm cool either way. Lol
England has cast black people in traditionally non-black rolls, i think they have had a king or queen portrayed by black people, usually became a moot point with good actors
are you triggered?
They're oblivious to it.
thats how biased supremacist minds work.
Katerina B
Exactly!
The USA is predominantly white there are simply going to be more bankable white actors. Also the main target is usually the majority of the population, which is white.
The same people who disliked this for pointing out white-washing are the same ones who went crazy on social media about Ariel being played by a black girl lol
I don't think so.
I don't think so, because it would get lot of backlash which it didn't.
Here is another dishonourable racist whitewashing:
The Lone Ranger is based on a number of real men, all of whom were black. The term eventually became synonymous with all of the African American regiments formed in 1866:

Denial? No, that is the wrong word to use considering many of these situations that boil down to what is available.
don't even get me started on the last airbender, that movie was a complete disaster just for having the cast they did, totally misrepresented the amazingly original animated series
Shamylan is notorious for attempting to represent Indians in his films
Same for black people and white people, im black btw
Gosh. How dare he?
Oh well.

No comments from white people being mad. Dozens of comments imagining comments from white people being mad. Hilarious.

Terry Hoult I wish that asshat would get his career stomped. Piece of shit is sexist, racist, and condones animal abuse.

I don'y really know of any examples of blackwashing though
when has that happened?

Surprised there's not mention of Ghost in the Shell.
Probably because this video went up on September 4th of 2016 and _Ghost in the Shell_ didn't come out until
March 29th of 2017. Very little was known about that movie when this was published and I think a lot of people at the time were expecting/hoping for a recast after all the backlash from the casting announcement.

All ghosts are white.
I'd rank this number one on the Whitewash Shit List.
Jackson.
You mean like Idris Elba in the Thor movies?
Someone random yep.
+Meow Mix Yes they were black. White people and arabs painted the walls black and white people white washed history. They also cut off the noses
Hispanics are an ethnicity not a race. Tony Mendez was a white Hispanic, so it is therefore not whitewashing to have a white actor like Ben Affleck portray him.
"on paper the idea of live action Dragon Ball movie sounds awesome" ROFL....only American can say something like this
GiacoC dragon Ball in Libe-Action is like a Kamen Rider movie where all the monsters are CG
Yes I know the more recent series have CG monsters but those are usually few and far between I mean ALL CG MONSTERS
I was expecting a lot more from that Dragonball movie, but that was based on the effects I had seen in The Matrix, showing that it was possible.

I still love the fact that a whole bunch of people flipped out about Rue being cast as an African-American girl. She was black in the books people. At least they got that casting right in the movie.
What about buttercup the cat on the first movie?
10:40 Yeah... only that the fire Nation was inspired by and designed after Japan. They had a really light skin tone.
THANK YOU

FujoshiFandubs fire nation people were pretty wealthyin general. Just watch the show they had pale skin
Yes, they were Asian. It doesn't mean everyone else was white. Everyone in ATLAB was the wrong race.
Yeah prett much.
But the acting was even worse.
Scarlett johansen (?) as Major Kusanagi in Ghost In The Shell. That's Hollywood!!
and ghost in the shell is heavily influenced by blade runner, that's life!!
except for one thing... it AIN'T blade runner.
Now tell me about a world were full conversion cybernetics exist, were you can customize the look of the body to how ever you want.
+Jon HueHueHue if we go by what you say then how come the major was NEVER any other race or went by any other name?
I agree.
I agree completely!!!
Menthisis
I think it's quite easy to handle: Many Animes (the same counts for western animations) have a realistic setting.
How did the multiple interpretations of Jesus not even make honorable mention? One of the most recognizable name and face in all of history...
That’s because everyone in BC and AD are just as whitewashed as Jesus is,

i said the special effects was the worst didn't i?
It's a ground-up disaster. Complaining that the Japanese-inspired Fire Nation characters were all Indian, or that the Tibetan-inspired Aang was white, or that the arguably Polynesian Water Tribe characters were white, is like complaining that your cat-shit taco is undercooked - sure, it's a valid critique, but it's still a cat-shit taco.
damn... riding that BANDWAGGON looks like FUN doesn't it
- lol no -
At min. 13:36 I can't decide which is more ridiculous; John Wayne's acting or his makeup.
the sad part is that movie was filmed on nuclear testing grounds and everyone involved died of cancer... but yeah the movie was horrible
Both
Awww man talk about adding insult to injury...and people like to claim those were the “good old days”...yup back where no one cared if you were exposed to deadly radiation just so long as they got paid :p
Back in the good ol' days when John Wayne himself smoked 4-5 packs of cigarettes a day( I'm sure he wasn't alone in his habit) it's hard to blame a location shoot for the casts and crews dying young.
My list includes Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusinagi (though the "ethnicity" of her cyborg body is never explicitly mentioned, it's generally assumed to be Japanese from her name, home, and the Japanese attitude towards outsiders) and Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen (I've heard the books describe her as "olive skinned").
... olive skin is a white skin tone
AngelinBlack I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Lawrence is more appropriately described as having fair skin. And from what little I've seen of the movies, she's definitely portrayed as extremely fair skinned.
Major Motoko Is mocked on at least two occasions for having a foreign body in the anime/manga, clearly has no asian features and has a pale skintone.
Whitewashing films should be prohibited and illegal
Yeah, white and black washing both.
Wish actors could just be judged on their ability to portray any character rather than their skin colour.
That not the point.
+Malachi Owens yeah, that makes too much sense...
lmao I wish actors of color were judged on their ability to portray any character (and were given roles in consequences)... and yet they're not. Cause those roles go to white actors
I wish when attempting to realistically portray a historical figure or established fictional character that people actually looked the part :/
i agree
Y'all 4K Trump supporters that mad huh?

no im taking your comment as a stupid comment, and im calling it out.

How could you leave out Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra.
Why?

"there are no racially diverse actors in ba sing se" -hollywood
Nah pointless video..
Seeing as Goku is an alien, not Japanese, casting anyone other than E.T. would technically be a miscasting.
good one like we know for sure Saiyans are Japanese
I know right why is Superman casted as a white guy, he's clearly an alien.
Goku's not japanese. He's an alien.
Michael Blanc lots of plants have a north east. He is from that area
And superman is an alien too. So he must be white right?
No, nor does it make Superman Asian or Black.
*Nice try*
Lol so some people think even anime is racist? Despite the stylistic choices being deliberate by the Japanese animators, emulating certain characteristics?
Cry racist all you like SJWs, sooner or later you will do it so much it will drown the actual cases out and the cause will be damaged, not helped. But I guess playing the race card enough times means sooner or later you luck out and it actually works.
I wonder when you people are going to tell Bollywood they're brownwashing movies.

I want a black person to play the main character instead of for example shahrukh khan and a british dude in this mainly indian family" or something like that :)
