From my experience people buy MK for the story mode which has the same production value as a Hollywood film. And after they are done with it, they don't stick around since the gameplay is not interesting enough. I had some non fighting game player friends who just did that and we talked about it in some shooter game lobbies

People were talking on twitter about the star wars prequels and all I said was while I don't think they're the best movies ever, some of the acting is a bit wooden and the plot can be over indulgant, I still love them and I think the core story of Anakin from 1 to where he dies is a really well told one.

When they get to a point where we are moving towards into new generation they scrap new ideas and concepts and hit the reset button on everything and go back to retelling the story of the first 2 MK games.

I've been one of those "Move on" people when it comes to me liking a game that others don't. Specifically, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 13. Good reminder for me to work on not doing that. No matter how I feel about something, or how tired I am of hearing about people being dissatisfied with something I like, it doesn't mean they have to stop voicing their opinion.

It's like some people in the crowd are aware of the low value of a product on sale, and they're calling out the hustle, and they're being critical of the product and the fraudulent practices involved, and now the shills in the room are telling the compromised seller who these whistleblowers are, and urging the auctioneer to ban these critics from bidding, or even entering the room. They want to silence the dissent; "Don't criticize; just move on already", so they can keep hustling people: making excessive profits off of subpar products. It's a good thing for you to call out the bs, and you should keep doing it, because you're not alone. You're simply giving voice to a huge part of the MK fanbase, and the critical MK fans are the real fans, because they actually care about the MK franchise. Shills like this guy just want to stay on NRS' good side, even when their products are objectively bad. And if it is said that M1K sells well, then that's like saying that the articles on sale at the auction sell for a lot of money: those sales; those profits, are achieved through dishonesty, manipulation, and deception. If all the bidders in the room are aware of the actual worth of the quality of the product on sale; the product would simply stop making a profit: and the shills that plant themselves in the room; pretending to be one of 'us', are exposed, and their fake bids are no longer taken seriously.

one of the many things that pisses me off about these shill type people is that they dont seem to understand that its the people talking up about how bad MK1 is are the ones that will hold NRS's asses to the fire and ultimately will cause the change this franchise to desperately needs. its people like these shills that praise the company over and over giving the company continue the bad practices. I am someone who has played MK since 1992 in the arcades and when I tell you that MK1 was the first MK game that I only played for a week after spending $265.95 on the collectors edition and dropping it and have not gone back. You're absolutely right to feel the way you do, about any game you critique. I have the same issues with MK1, and I have issues with Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, KOF XV, and a few others. When did humans become so fickle, they get upset with people because they don't like what those particular people like? I know its off topic, but its so strange to see sonic fox or f0xygranpa streaming at the same time COTR or TNS is on, and they are not participating. I know a lot of great players do, but idk MK seems fragmented when it comes to this.

My sense is that MK1 is slowly improving. Though the interminable grind of Invasions continues, you get more unique costumes for the struggle. After the online connection debacle the actual character content has been good (Quan-chi with buffs, Peacemaker, and Khameleon are all fun), which gives me hope for future characters. The game is pretty balanced and the subtle nerfs to Johnny/Lao/Stryker were nice, though that doesn't mean the game doesn't desperately need buffs. And in this regard I find a bit of the content on the badness of NRS repetitive, though often on the nose. I cannot deny that, despite enjoying Tekken 8 much more than MK1, I still enjoy watching Sonic and Foxy more than you or MKTom Brady.
However, I appreciate that there is a community that is keeping NRS and, I believe more importantly, WB in check. These incremental changes would not have happened in silence and I expect as we get closer to EVO more work will be put in that wouldn't have happened if it weren't for you or TB. What I wonder more generally, particularly after your very good video on developing MK's mechanics, is if WB wants NRS to make a simple, straightforward, and ultimately static game as they divest from "hardcore gaming" (Activision-Blizzard is the best example out there). When I look at what they did with Rocksteady with Suicide Squad and what they haven't done with their LotR's license, I am reminded of Konami after they moved to mobile gaming and pachinko. When the publisher sees endless monetization as the only goal, there is only so much a dev can do. Patches and better designed characters are within their control, but adding budget is a completely different story. In that case, shilling for NRS becomes even more senseless. While Capcom is putting on million dollar matches, NRS pros probably have difficulty earning a living just competing (hence people like Tweedy leaving the scene entirely). If MK1 and eventually Injustice 3 would rather be Fortnite than Strive, Tekken, or SF then it might be time to move on.

I agree with you in a lot of ways but I do think that he has a point as well…not about not criticizing, that’s crazy that he kept calling people unintelligent for being right…but what I’m worried about with the incessantness of the complains is that we won’t get a better MK, we just won’t get another MK game. And then people will complain about that (including me). The problems with MK1 are well documented. I don’t know the solution but it’s a side of the argument I haven’t heard anyone consider.

I think your criticisms about mk1 are mostly valid but i have to admit that there is an element of truth to people bangwagoning the hate train for mk1 for personal gain. I personally like Mk1 and the kameos system. But definitely can acknowledge that the game can be helped in certain ways. No one’s opinion is going to deter me from playing. I just hope the developers are listening and give us more depth and buff other characters and kameos. I really hope this game gets better
I love the footsies improvement in this game. I really do. Upblock is amazing, love how fatal blows aren’t spammable anymore, and air combos are awesome.

There is also a clear difference between subjective opinions Vs objective criticisms. Sadly, a lot of people seem to not understand this fact, and yet rejecting criticisms in favor of their personal validations comes across like they live in their echo chambers. I honestly don’t agree with this whole narrative that we can’t talk about a product if it’s negative because being negative isn’t automatically a bad thing if it means that the negative backlash can lead to positive changes. But nothing can change if people are stubborn and refuse to listen to objective criticisms.

Each franchise has their own fanboys and they hate it when you start criticizing. I just got into an argument with some of them when I criticized the power armor's landing scene in the new Prime Video's Fallout series trailer (you can check it out) comparing it to someone being tied to a rope. They said why criticize it when it's not out yet etc, but I've been criticizing Fallout 76 and dealt with some fanboys back then, and it turned out I was right as the game was trash.

I havent had fun with MK since X. Wasnt satisfied with 11 and i gave them a second chance with 1 and they've shown their colors with how the support has been. At this point I'm done with the series and it's sad since I grew up with MK. This just pushed me to actually learn Tekken, another series I grew up with, and I've had so much more fun than I ever had with any MK.
NRS has so many shills that have been called out by the fact they hyped the new MK1 game and its terrible. Then you never see them even saying the same thing on there channel which is the same thing we are all saying and know. This game is horrible please bring back the MK we love and adore.
They don't know it but by staying silent in faces of problems they are doing more harm to their beloved games than the ones doing the criticism bc if you stay silent they will keep doing the same shit and the game will die at the end. But if you criticize it, the devs now have a clear list of things to improve in the next game or patch. So keep that in mind when you want to silence someone who's vocal about something

Mike since I have seen your videos I believe you are the most real and honest person when it comes to the gaming community as a whole. I would like to know your opinion on the whole sweet baby controversy as other political content creators are calling out other gamers for either being losers or over exaggerators since sweet baby inc is just a consulting firm and they have been this way for years before the controversy. Their argument is that they have consulted for other gaming companies for making good games that have a great popularity and bad games as well besides being inclusive to minorities. So in other words to what extent is it really some kind of political agenda, or is it just a group of people who make good games and bad games and at that point is it just your opinion alone whether you like the game or not because the percentages of positive feedback over Spider-Man 2 for example is just as good as the percentage over mortal kombat 1 but we know that mk1 is not in a good state. So are we just over exaggerating this whole social politics in games and do these other TH-camrs have a point to speak out about gamers just showing that they may be racists, homophobic, transphobic, etc for being critical towards sweet baby. I feel that these political content creators need to listen to your words because I think you bring a good point thats neither one side nor the other.

We in the pro wrestling community can be very toxic, most of us are very rational. I acknowledge and always have the problems with the WWE2K24 series,but I buy and play them because I love the creation suite in them. That series has one of the most in depth character creators I have ever seen. I don't bash 2K for roster decisions because WWE has final say over that, their are things with the roster of WWE2K24 that I don't like, but it was WWE's decision. I personally think AEW Fight Forever was a $70 beta. That game launched with less features then a game on a wrestling game on the PS2 SmackDown Here Comes The Pain that game ain't. I like MK, but MK has to many issues with it. I found SF6 better. SF6's World Tour is better then MK1's story. I made an avatar on that games almost like in the WWE2K series for a fighting game that's impressive. I do find any criticism if AEW Fight Forever tends to lead to some people calling the person critical of AEW Fight Forever a WWE shill, but most of us wrestling game fans are quite rational
