Even as a car driver, other car drivers using the phone while driving annoys the shit out of me. People are totally oblivious to their surroundings when they are on their phone. I saw a woman earlier today (With two kids in her car who weren't wearing seatbelts and were standing up in the back) who ran a red light then didn't notice the cars in front moving off from the next one a few metres down the road TWICE. And people still wonder why it's an offense to use a mobile phone while driving... Oh, and if you think you can manage it just fine, look up a man called Frank Wrathall. Flattened a cyclist driving his van on the road because he was talking to his girlfriend on the mobile phone, and he is a PROFESSIONAL racing driver. He raced cars for a living at a top national level (BTCC) and still couldn't do it without hitting someone and killing them. He's serving time for it now thankfully, though he only got 21 months for killing a married father of one. Whatever you are doing on your phone, it isn't as important as controlling a chunk of metal weighing between one and two tons on average, travelling at 30-80 mph (50-130 km/h). Wake up and put it down.
Almost had an accident on Monday with mum driving, the car in front was texting on her phone while driving. Stopped at the lights, she slowly started rolling back, so my mum beeped at her once, then again, then a third time. Still rolling back, my mum had to start rolling too so she didn't roll into us, and about ten seconds solid on the horn she still didn't realize until the traffic started moving again. NO FUCKING CLUE. Absolutely boils my piss. We'd just been talking about this very video about five minutes earlier.

Totally agree, simple but VERY effective, especially as it sounds like a twin dual sport sitting atop one of those you'd be able to see into pretty much domestic vehicle on the road introduce a couple of these unmarked bikes into a city centre and the word would soon spread and there's nowhere that these bikes can't go makes you wonder if other police forces are really serious about dealing with this.
Wish we had these police motorcyclists in the UK catching these totally selfish and irresponsible drivers out. I am a motorcyclist and have lost count of number of times I have had near misses due to drivers driving without due care, too fast and attention.
Always said that it seems weird that they went through the bother of increasing the penalty for handheld phone use, while not seeming to increase enforcement. Mind you, I've rarely seen any police motorcycles* these days(!) and I don't see how exactly it's so hard to just put your phone in a cradle and get a Bluetooth headset at the very least... [* edit: I've seen a few of them recently, but still, they are a rare sight!]
Can you imagine how many tickets you would be handing out a day, heck even every hour everyday??? You would be making your police department shit load of money.
***** Over 90% of the time, texts and calls you receive is not EMERGENCY. It is mostly useless for which you can pull over and do your business on your phone and then go. The worst thing that you can do is link your phone to your car. What will you do when your car breaks down and no power middle of nowhere? You say penalties are low. It depends on location. Go to a metropolitan area or city. You will mostly see people talking or texting on their phone while driving. Even though they banned it in the United States, people are still doing it not just civilians but also police officers. I wouldn't be so quick to say that simply linking your signal to your car will solve this problem. What will bring violators to halt is writing out EXPENSIVE tickets cost of which should equal the cost of their CELL PHONE. Do you run red light or stop signs all the time? I don't think so or you will be making your city rich every month by paying off your traffic tickets. 15 years ago, I had many traffic tickets and parking tickets and one day my car was towed away. Guess what, I had to pay over $2,000 to get my car back from them. Did that stop me from being jackass on the road? Of course it did. So, think about that.
thatdevilguy I don't get why people need to be on their phone EVERY Damn second of the day.. Even if you're driving for hours -> how about parking for 2 minutes, make your calls, answer your messages and get back on the road? People these days are so stupid
EerieBetrayal That would be expected and required for emergency personnel to use their wireless device while driving, but I am talking about civilians only.
Goddamn I could watch this all freakin' day. Wish this guy had his own youtube channel I could sub to. To all you whining "derp derp it's illegal to be on your phone while your stopped at a red light?" YES you morons! From the time you are on public roads, you are "operating a motor vehicle". Unless you are safely pulled over or parked and not inducing traffic, you should NOT be on your phone at all. Both hands should be used for nothing else other than the operation of your vehicle (controls; steering wheel, turn signals, gear shift, etc). You shouldn't be on your phone updating your FB status, you shouldn't be putting on make up, you shouldn't be eating a cheeseburger. JUST FUCKING DRIVE. -sincerely, truck driver & motorcyclist.
+ApexIXMR Presumably, adjusting windows and talking on cb radio (presumably most truckers do that) are ok with your statement because hands are not on wheel temporarily.

i wish they did this is the U.S. The age of cell phones has absolutely destroyed the safety of the roads and everyone around them. Just dont use your phone while driving, even at a stop light.
Should be aloowed at stoplight or under 10 mph (traffic) if people impede traffic there is a law for that or if people are moving fast on the phone then ok. This is revenue and punishing people who have no caused any issue. Oh yea, swurving on the phone, law there...wreckless driving. Serve and protect not fine and collect.
At the very least these people are standing still while using their phone. Here in China people go full speed while using their phone. Absolutely mental. Just swerving around, and with all the jaywalkers, illegal u-turns, lane cutting, and blind merging it's a wonder there are still 1.3 billion Chinese.
+Ll Lock are you not familiar with China's infamous 1 child policy or am I missing something? reproducing like rabbits? I believe I heard from somewhere the policy was recently terminated but still... and I'm almost certain it was still in effect during the time this video was made? and don't try to tell me that policy isn't enforced...
We actually have something better here. They now have 2-3 officers looking out of buses catching people left and right on the phone. Started in Quebec and is now here in Toronto.
The problem with people using their phone when stationary at the lights is they are so engrossed with their phone is they don't see the lights have changed. Lost count the number of times i've had to sound my horn to get them to take their eyes of their phone and move off.
Sure but it's not comparable with using it while actually moving. Kind of ridiculous that you get the same punishment for risking a slight inconvenience at a red light, as you do for putting everyone around you at risk while moving. Generally people reading their phones at red lights aren't dangerous. Should at least be a lesser punishment.
That, or they see the person next to them moving, and they're either a green arrow and they still have a red, or they don't look up to check to see if the person in front has moved, and they slam into the back.... The dangers with using your phone at the lights are real, and motorcyclists have been killed. Or they creep forward because they can't see they're moving.
PBMS123 To be fair you would have to be pretty stupid to do that! Of course there are rare cases where it ends up actually being dangerous but most of the time it's just an inconvenience.
Its not as rare as you think. Someone who uses their phone at the lights, knowing it's illegal will be more inclined to use it while driving as well, thinking they can do it safely. Most people who use their phone at the lights don't put it away when it's green, and they're most likel;y uising it while they approach the light. Just because you're at a red light doesn't mean you shouldn't be paying attention, the light changing to green is just one thing. You need to be aware of everything, like if you're creeping forward because you aren't on the brake hard enough, they dont see it, because they aren't paying attention. And the fact the last person couldn't see the cop beside them with his lights on for that amount of time until he knocked, shows how dangerously unaware they are. You need to be looking for dangers, like a truck not stopping for instance, an emergency vehicle coming up. This is not rare, and almost everyone i see on their phone at the lights starts moving on a green light while still on their phone, completely unaware of their surroundings. People who defend the use of it while driving, whether your moving or not don't realise that you need to pay attention all the time.
I hear ya, I'm just saying that a lot of people are perfectly capable of looking at their phone at a red light while being aware of their surroundings. Of course not everyone can, and that's why the laws are in place. I do it sometimes but only if I'm not moving and I still look up every second to make sure I'm aware of my surroundings. I would never use it while moving. If it were legal, I would have my phone held up by the top of the steering wheel so I would be able to be even more aware of my surroundings, thanks to peripheral vision! Still looking away from the phone every second of course. But because it's illegal, people will be more sneaky about it and are actually less likely to be aware when they do it!
deitert07 how is this a police state this is an officer pulling people over for breaking the law, and it's not unreasonable at all. This isn't big brother this is an officer with a body cam or helmet cam in this specific case.

Wake up it is happening in every part of the planet. Stop making fun of people being killed by idiots who have nothing to better with there time than put other people in danger \
Fun fact: texting while driving has proven to be as bad for your driving abilities as drunk driving. Now you wouldnt drive drunk with your kids on the back seat without even having seatbelts on them? So put that phone down while operating a 1 ton chunk of metal, electrics and fuel with very small marginals at high speeds. Oh, and do you think that you are such a good driver that this doesnt apply to you? Google search Frank Wrathall. A racing driver that was talking on his phone (not even texting) and flattened a cyclist. Sally just got 21 months in jail if i remember correctly. Way to destroy your carrer and CV if i may say so myself. Does brittany really need to know this verry moment how big Toms dick is or can it wait for 10 minutes? Think about it.
SportSoulLife I agree. These people usually have their heads down while going through lights most of the time. How pathetic is it they need to be doing this? A lot of them, mostly women, go through red lights without a care in the world. They shouldn't get off lightly and need to be stoned to death!
Stopped at a traffic light is driving. Plain and simple if you want to use your mobile, park your car at the side of the road. Now please just fuck off.
Since the change, I see less people using their phones, but still far too many. People will give the law change a while to see if it impacts before reverting back to previous behaviour. It would be interesting to see some stats relating to conditions since the law change if anybody has seen any?
Save the best 'till last. She was so busy talking she didn't even see the cop flashing his lights right up beside her window. "Sorry" is all well and good after you've been caught. Wish I'd heard more of the interviews afterwards.

I recognise Midland WA here, I saw them doing this alot as I used to drive around midland delivering. Always made me chuckle. It was my understanding that it was a trial, the undercover bikes were lighter off road types and had tiny little lights red and blue etc. As a motorcyclist I would imagine that doing that all day would be tiring and dangerous work for a police rider.
IKR, I was visiting America for family and I'm from France so I use the metric system while America uses like miles inches and all that. And I got pulled over because I was going a bit over the speed limit and my accent is pretty horrible and the officer pulls me over and is like very rude and has this awful tone and making me get out of my car and all this. It was very new to me and I was a bit shocked because he was being very rough with me and being very hostile. I was following his instructions but I guess he must have miss understood me.
+Whatever Love Yeah. The cops that do their jobs correctly are generally polite, but those who don't, they are rude, arrogant, physically and verbally violent, and don't like being told what to do. It's kind of a safety thing now to video a police encounter.
+Raymond Garcia Cops will sometime pick on people just for the heck of it. Especially if the cop is racist, whether he/she is aware of that racism or not. Now I can't drive yet, but if I ever got unlawfully stopped, I would definitely exercise my rights. Exercising your rights can make cops who don't know the constitution or amendments very angry. This is because they are used to being obeyed. Unfortunately, some cops are just in the job for the power trip. Not all, some. Still, some cops being power hungry is not good. That means that there is a chance that a cop you come across could be volatile. I think there needs to be months, preferably a year of training at the least. Also, cops who commit crimes need to be fired and charged, instead of getting leave. Cops who stop their partners from committing crimes need to be commended, not fired.
This guy is legend, direct yet polite and catching drivers that do know better. how many drivers do you see swigging beer whilst behind the wheel, very rarely, why, because it's illegal and they know this, so what's the difference with a mobile phone, is the info there looking at so important that they can't wait till there parked. Good on yer mate. :)
I disagree. I do not use my phone while my vehicle is moving. Whilst at a red light of which i know exactly how it's programmed and how long it takes for it to jump to green i occasionally check my phone. People who look at it/text while the car is moving are the ones that kill you.
Some of the comments on here oh my gosh. "Why isnt it safe to check a phone at the lights" exactly what this video depicts, lack of awareness for your surroundings. They didnt even notice the cop until he pulled up (given unmarked). He would have been easier to spot if THEY WERENT USING THE PHONE. Kind of ironic how the drivers are oblivious to the cop just like the comments section is oblivious to common sense.
Common sense isn't so common unfortunately, and trying to educate morons as to why their behaviour is moronic is a fruitless endeavour. You've got more chance of convincing a banana that it's a plum.
I regularly pull up at the lights next to someone on their phone. They're either tappin' away texting or yappin' away to whoever and I can be sitting there looking straight at them and they're off in their own little world. If I was a cop they'd be busted - but they're too caught up in their phone to notice!
I ride a motorcycle and this is so satisfying to watch. I've nearly been killed on two occasions by people driving while using their phones. One blew a red light and nearly t-boned me at a junction, the other drifted across onto the wrong side of the road at high speed.

Unless you are physically PARKED in your car and OUT OF TRAFFIC, you CAN NOT use your mobile device, simple as that. Whether you're on the freeway, in town, or even at a stop light, its ILLEGAL! Not only is it stupid, it is potentially dangerous to not only you, but anyone and everyone around you. Say you're stopped at a red light, a pedestrian is crossing (lets say its a little kid), you glance up and the light is green, you dont see the kid, you didnt see him start walking across, you step on the gas... i understand why people think its okay to do at lights, and to be honest, im probably at fault of it too sometimes, im not saying that its okay for me to do it and nobody else, but its a habit that really wont make anything better. I feel like his we just put out the money to train some people to do this, the revenue from all the tickets would pay back all that money and a lot more. The amount of people I see on their cell phones is crazy. Geeze, even a few years ago I was on the highway at night, and some woman was reading the news paper. I'm not even sure how she saw anything. But ever day, I find multiple people using their phones while driving, and I'm only on the road for about an hour and a half, and half my driving is in a rural area. I could only imagine what a properly setup police would find.
I get home mum says someone phoned....call 'em back next cupla days. Driving is about rules, concentration and defence. Nothing else matters....this is not unsolicited opinion, it's in the book.
Ian McKay and there aren't any losses in the digital duplication of the file. The only losses are from each additional re-encoding of the image and audio using lossy codecs (which TH-cam does automatically when videos are uploaded).

its called compression.. you know to make the videos quicker to download/watch on the net... I'm sure the original footage looks just fine... (it would have to as the prosecution would use it in court if someone appealed the fine)

I live near one of the main access points to the Kwinana Freeway into the city and at peek hour I love seeing these guys pulling up next to cars, tapping on the window and saying, "we're going to pull over there for a chat".
riding a road bike daily, i see EVERY moron that is texting/ reading/ videocalling/ whatever-ing on their phone while driving. cant count the number of close calls ive had where jerks have never even seen me yet almost hit me. conservatively, in my experience 75% of the people on the road are doing it. laws prohibiting it basically are unenforceable. This motorcycle office is my hero!
Amen to this. The only thing that surprised me in this video is how few minivans were cited. When I’m on my bike, I have a rule of thumb... Assume ALL minivan drivers are distracted by something
@@billg7813 funny you say this, only two days ago when I was riding home from work a minivan pulled out of a side street in front of me. I nearly ended up in its thirds row of seats.

Amen.
***** What about that is stupid?
***** My mum wasn't on the phone, the woman in the car ahead was on the phone and almost rolled back into us.
No, she rolled back while keeping an eye on the car behind. The woman in front had no idea she was even rolling back.
I've never understood why some people feel the need to be on their phones 24/7, especially while driving.

I wish they'd give me a sheriffs badge and let me do this. I see assholes on phones EVERY fucking day swerving all over the road!
So, think about that.
vasanthmuthu i dunno about over there but in Australia all emergency personnel, on duty, are allowed to use the mobile while driving : /

To all you whining "derp derp it's illegal to be on your phone while your stopped at a red light?"
YES you morons!

Being a driver this brings so much joy to me eyes.

It was my understanding that it was a trial, the undercover bikes were lighter off road types and had tiny little lights red and blue etc.
As a motorcyclist I would imagine that doing that all day would be tiring and dangerous work for a police rider.
Wow. I wish cops here in the US were that polite. It is so stressful being unsure of whether a cop is violent or not.
To be fair, everyone hates french people, not just police officers.
+Yayaya123 Lol

Catching ppl looking at their phones at lights is like shooting fish in a barrel............just look around you next time you our driving.....
dont give a fuck those are the type of people who use them while driving aswell
I disagree. I do not use my phone while my vehicle is moving. Whilst at a red light of which i know exactly how it's programmed and how long it takes for it to jump to green i occasionally check my phone. People who look at it/text while the car is moving are the ones that kill you.
Does not matter the law states that you can not use a mobile phone while driving, that includes sitting at a light.
I see it all the time when I'm out driving. Friend and I were nearly sideswiped by a texting driver seven years ago. Really POes me.
@spottydog4477 I hope you are trolling.

Sounds like the nicest cop ever too, lol.
UK needs this cop!
@@FlabbyTabby This is in Perth, Australia. It is quite distinctly an Australian accent, not British.
I ride a motorcycle and this is so satisfying to watch. I've nearly been killed on two occasions by people driving while using their phones. One blew a red light and nearly t-boned me at a junction, the other drifted across onto the wrong side of the road at high speed.
Fellow biker here. I've also twice nearly been run off the road by someone driving while on the phone. First time was a laden tipper truck, didnt even notice the roundabout he went straight across, let alone me going round it.
I like to count the number of people i see on their phones when I lane split. About 80%
Yes especially the woman who despite flashing lights beside her continued to talk on the phone .Just what we don't need on the road
You motor cycle riders have no

All the Best Fellow Motor Bike Rider
These people here aren t driving, they wait for the Red light,., standing stil.
They wouldn't have to give me a cop's wages to ride around on a motorcycle and give people tickets for using their phone while driving.
2:48 was my favorite part! The idiot was still on his phone when the officer turned his lights on and he still didn't notice ! Ha!
They need to do this in the U.S.! These people on their phones are a HAZARD!!
This should be the #1 job of traffic cops in the USA, all day, every day.
All the dislikes from complacent drivers
All the dislikes from people who don't want an even bigger police apparatus. Oh , the shame.
They were watching while driving.
@@frankwright5773 I guess we'll just let these distracted drivers run rambo and kill people. Good with that?
@@frankwright5773 Oh. So it's not about saving lives?
@@ID-8491 : No, it's not. It can't be -- how can a motorist, even if talking on the phone, kill anyone *_while stopped at a light???_*
This just warms my heart
Unless you are physically PARKED in your car and OUT OF TRAFFIC, you CAN NOT use your mobile device, simple as that. Whether you're on the freeway, in town, or even at a stop light, its ILLEGAL! Not only is it stupid, it is potentially dangerous to not only you, but anyone and everyone around you. Say you're stopped at a red light, a pedestrian is crossing (lets say its a little kid), you glance up and the light is green, you dont see the kid, you didnt see him start walking across, you step on the gas... You heard a thud? take a guess as to what, or WHO that thud was.
i understand why people think its okay to do at lights, and to be honest, im probably at fault of it too sometimes, im not saying that its okay for me to do it and nobody else, but its a habit that really wont make anything better. Anything can wait an extra minute or two just to pull over and read it then.
+Luke J
That's really unlikely to happen, though - how blind do you have to be lol
fuck you and your "simple as that".. the fact is your brain has no comprehension power to realize that a moving car =/= a stationary car.
+Luke It's a bit childish though. For this clip, it would be better to show people getting tickets who actually drive whilest on the phone.
+Luke
wtf? If you glance up you will see the kid. If not you are blind and you should not drive.
In my country it's also illegal, but police doesn't stop for that, I've never heard about someone as the example you described.
I've never seen an accident of people using phones when they are not moving (yes when they are moving of course)
The only way this would be worse is if he said "im not mad, im just disappointed"
Damn, he is so polite.
According to a poster below, this was in Australia. I LOVE THIS TACTIC. I wish police would do this in America, we have lots of cell phone distracted drivers here.
*I love this officer's friendly but firm manner.
I wish the same here. There are too many drivers that are so into their phone, it's not even funny. There's always a time and place to use your phone. I know exactly what you are saying.
Would love to see more of these. Or even just the regular duty of this motor officer.
Jj Flash Me too, would be a great channel, I would subscribe! :)
This is probably one of my new favourite videos I like listening to people's reactions
the amount of pleasure this video brings me lol
i love this cop he is so happy
Why all the down votes? Wish we had these guys doing this in Calgary.
Randall Thirteen Saw someone the other day looking at their phone for a few minutes going down Sun Valley Blvd. Only stopped to look at the lights.
Downvotes are from bad drivers defending their shitty life threatening phone habits.
Randall Thirteen bc none of these people were driving. They were all stopped and this cop was being a douche
Nate Whitelaw. in Australia it is illegal to use, or hold a mobile fone while driving. in fact u must b stopped, engine off, and keys removed if u want to use ur fone while in the drivers seat. even hands free is not allowed for "P" plate drivers in some states.
It's terrible in Calgary! I see one everytime I go on a drive.
This cop has police issued bionic eyes.....he can even see the loose french fry on the floor behind your seat. Damn.
Yeah lol, he even warns people that the water in the radiator is low with his x-ray vision
My god that was satisfying
True
Love it, well done Policeman!
People are saying that his bike is unmarked but you can clearly see the lights reflecting off the cars
thats what im saying how can people be so stupid
Yep. I've seen plenty of unmarked cars pulling over people with hidden police lights. I mean, Detectives use unmarked cars.
Unmarked means no markings. They can have lights on them to pull people over but it doesn't say for instance Johnson county sheriff or LAPD. It has nothing.
D.Golden Films How can *YOU* be so stupid?
***** it has fucking police in black on the side of it you dumb fuck
No matter what people say this police officer is doing a great job and he probably is saving life’s from distracted drivers
The hero we need. good work M8
Man, why can't they do this here..
+saturn0660 same with my area. we don't have the funding or the manpower to enforce it.
+saturn0660 heh you should see Greece. You can't ride anything above 500cc safely here. bunch of old men and stupid cell users will run you over even on a fkcin bicycle let alone motocycle
+saturn0660 where are you? indonesia?
The states
This policeman should live where I live, he would have a never ending list of customers
is it just me or is the camera footage shit half of them I couldn't see
That's what happens to videos when they go through several download then re-upload cycles. The multiple lossy re-encodings kill quality.
Its digital, should not be any losses!
Ian McKay and there aren't any losses in the digital duplication of the file. The only losses are from each additional re-encoding of the image and audio using lossy codecs (which TH-cam does automatically when videos are uploaded).
Most digital files (Especially consumer-level media files) lose quality whenever they are edited or saved to a different format. Here is a very cool project which uses this quality loss as a sort of "filter" for images.
instagram.com/sitting_in_stagram/
its called compression.. you know to make the videos quicker to download/watch on the net... I'm sure the original footage looks just fine... (it would have to as the prosecution would use it in court if someone appealed the fine)
They need this in the US, period. I get rather sick and tired of trying to cross a street at an intersection and having to play dodge'em because the driver has their phone welded to their ear and aren't paying attention to the road as they turn.

This man is litterally saving lives. God bless him.
They were in a red light dude what live saving, more like cash collecting
@@MarkHallG True, Till the lights change, they don't realise, Look up and end up rushing and doing stupid shit. I've been in traffic and back ended by a stupid asshat on his phone in stationary traffic at a light. I'm down with that guy "cash collecting." Phones shouldn't be on the road.
