If you aren't a Drummer, you likely won't appreciate how flawless her Double-stroke roll was. That was incredibly tight, then she starts adding in the accents and it was still clean.
As soon as I saw Right Right Left Left, I knew Nana was pulling out some big guns. I'm not a drummer by the way. I watched a short clip of drum rudiments by Ian Paice, so I only know of a few techniques drummers use. Paradiddles, or double paradiddles (not sure I'm spelling that right) looks like a true test of the wrists and fingers.
I’ve known Dorothea for years. We worked together at a music store back in the day. We still run into each other at the grocery store quite often. She’s a gem of a human being and a killer drummer.
You act like she’s a special needs person…Who wins a medal just because the try…you’re being condescending and don’t even realize it….how about she just a good drummer and leave it at that instead of giving her some “look at the old person playing drums, that’s so cute”
As a drummer myself, Quest gave her all love. Drummers in the comment section already know. Probably the only community where people aren't squabbling over stupid stuff. We love each other over all skill levels. This was a wholesome communication between two drummers.
I think she changes them to a 5 stroke roll (r r l l R l l r r L) but starts on the first accented Right and then into paradiddle diddles (R L r r l l). But agreed, super dope!
Thank you Nana Dorothea for shattering that glass ceiling of women musicians!!!! You are amazing & I so enjoy your musical prowess!!!! Bless you many times over❤
@@olimpicus There’s nothing “paranoid” in my statement. I was praising her. She’s middle aged and plays the drums, something that women didn’t do MUCH OF for many years. I’m not stupid & the glass ceiling comment was in reference to women having been MOSTLY singers in the past. Ask anyone who grew up during the 1940s until the early 1960s. Managers & music labels/producers were much pickier about sticking to societal norms. Ask Italian Americans about the pressure to change their names or Caucasian musicians whose playing/singing sounded “too black”.
What glass Ceiling? Never heard of Cindy Blackman, Karen Carpenter, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Gail Ann Dorsey, Katie Melua.... off the top of my head.. what are you talking about?
The women I just listed have 100 times more influence than this lady. She's simply playing g the drums (very well) but not creating music. If I were a lady Cindy Blackman of Suzi would be a far bigger influence than this lovely lady grooving on the drums.
This put a smile on my face. Two great musicians, and dude wasn't trying to upstage - and she is simply doing her thing. THAT DOUBLE BEAT SHE DID WAS FLAWLESS !!! AND SHE ISN'T EXACTLY VERY YOUNG PERSON- IT'S GREAT TO SEE SUCH CLEAN FUN BETWEEN MUSICIANS.
I can only speculate but I’m pretty sure Quest Love has the most kind soul. He seems like a genuinely good human who likes to see others around him do well. I just love that guy!
Dorothea is an absolute monster when it comes to rudimental drumming. Unfortunately non percussionists will not likely understand how what she does is so amazing.
She's the professor of drumming at a pretty prestigious school. She's like super bad ass, watch some of her videos, I think you'd be surprised who is taking it easy on who 😂
I want to see Nana against rocker girl who's personally my favorite drummer at this time... If you all never seen her you should check out her channel #rockergirl
What do you think of it. I quit playing about 20 years ago and I'm thinking about playing again. My last kit was a set of Sonor drums, so I'm a little spoiled. That kit sounds nice, but it's mic'd and eq'd. What's it like in the room?
Ever since I saw this beautiful lady playing the drums cover for Down with the Sickness from Disturbed on drumeo I can’t help but be amazed on how chill she is while impressing everyone. That’s a pro in her habitat.
That double stroke roll won it period....crisp vlean this woman rocks and that guy playing agaist her let her shine...well dont man...that a gentleman rite there
Love how Quest opted for the simplified version of her first rift, he wasn't trying to compete, he just let her shine.
He's cool when it comes to these drum offs bc he doesn't always show off n compete
Noticed that too I'm sure he didn't want to feel like an ass for blowing her out the water lol
What’s a “rift”? You mean “riff”?
riff*
This is such a small thing but man it really shows true class.

She sucks 😂
Please let her know she inspires so many women.
She's so cool❤
Her doubles were super clean and she has a wonderful groove. She killed it.
I wish the late Karen Carpenter was here for something like this! She was also a great drummer!
@@seanswinton6242Co-sign! Karen Carpenter was a smoking drummer, super groovy, with monster chops and to boot, easy on the eyes. 😊✌🏽🇩🇴

Quest is a classy gentleman (we all know why), and that lady is a badass.
Why would that be?
Because he was sweet to a little old lady when he could have torn her up if he wanted to. That’s the mark of a gentleman.
I'm curious as well
Uk that lady is a legendary drummer🙂

I ain't even a drummer but Damn that roll was something else
not even a buzz too just a pure double stroke, that takes crazy skill
My inspiration of why I started playing drums even though I’m 35 already. Love you Dorothea! 😍
Oh my gosh, thank you. I'm 37 and I really want to, u just inspired me. Thanks 😀
I’m 36 and just started 3 months ago,
Love it
I’m waiting for Superstition by Stevie Wonder to start playing…
Me too 🙋🏼♀️
For real, I was hoping I wasn’t the only one that ad that
So was I!!!
As if no one knew the bass line.
Oh yeah!
That is PURE HAPPINESS TO ME, DRUMS 🥁 are the best sound my ears have ever heard.I could hear it all day and love every minute of it.
