    3:00 I agree. The more you draw the less you need to construct everything. I find myself now starting pictures with the arms first or a simple action line and still coming out with a well made sketch. It's as if the drawing simply falls into place.
    Also, I'm drawing things in different perspectives now. I use to be afraid but realized that it benefits me more to just go for it. Using an action figure helps a lot with this.
    Btw, I love this channel. I'm considering Joining it to support it. It's like a virtual text book.

    Well kim jung gi. drew all his life. he is amazing because he was able to constantly draw constantly throughout his life. He did not automatically create his amazing scene. Also he probably made mistakes while drawing throughout his life. But this is good starting point to get a understanding of his abilities.

    There was an article (or was it a video? I forgot) that states that Kim Jung Gi spent hours in browsing things that he has interest in at that current point of time of the day and started drawing one object from different perspectives. He'd continue to do it again and again and again with the same object for hours untill he's satisfied. After that he'd do everything else that he needed to do for the rest of the day.
    So in short, yeah, you're right. Mileage and experience. Draw more, observe more, draw some more again and again and again and again. Kim Jung Gi even stated that he often screws up even when people sees his work as amazing (he has a healthy self-criticizing attitude) and he even wasn't shy from saying that he'd make things up tiny details that's actually different from real life objects that he's based his drawings from (from his visual library). And to top it all, he does so while enjoying the process.

      I know that I am 3 years late to the party but I have the book and I had to take a break from it to learn perspective from other sources. The book spends 6 pages on perspective terminology and jumps right into techniques and construction and leaves a lot of perspective 'rules' untouched. For example, I didn't find anything there about tumbling boxes (when you tilt the box on the x and z axis), the nature of 3 point perspective and how to place that 3rd point and so on. It's a good book but it doesn't feel like a perspective book but a book on how to use your existing knowledge of perspective to construct forms from imagination.

    • @coded8527
      @coded8527 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@umario992 I think the book expects you to have at least some prior knowledge of perspective before starting it. I've been planning on jumping into it but I decided to read perspective made easy by Earnest Norling. I'm a little over halfway done with it and its more geared toward people who have pretty much no understanding of perspective.

    KJG has this fantastic ability to visualise things before he draws them and it can be intimidating, but looking at his sketchbooks one thing becomes apparent: he draws ALL THE TIME. At a restaurant, at a talk, waiting for his car to be serviced, in a museum, on the street...
    So leave that phone in your pocket and pick up a pencil! Like Indy said: "It's not the years, it's the mileage."

    One thing I heard somewhere is that five point perspective is just one point perspective with curved lines. If it’s above and to the left of the vanishing point, then the vertical lines will bend so that they bend up to the right, and down to the right. The horizontal lines will curve so the ends of the line point down. It’s actually quite simple once you can imagine a grid.

    thats all the best way to learn drawing. start simply, as simple as you need. think the blocks etc. in 3D and perspective. then the way up to blocked figures in all sorts of perspectives and gestures. drawing it all day and night long, then start sketching loosely. it may not kick in inbetween the first weeks, but at one point its like you said. you just no more relying on the blocks, you just start sketching freely. you jsut need to do it daily and not overpacing. one thing to be worth mentioning tho is, just combine the blocking with shading. right away from the start the simplest rectangular blocks. just imagine the source of light and shade the blocks. it will boost your abilty to sketch out fast drastically, when you go further on details.
