It's about damn time somebody came out with integrated brake/friction shifters for drop bars. Friction is definitely the way to go, ESPECIALLY for front derailleurs.
11 clicks of old ergo campy front goodness for triples. 🙂
I don’t know why this excites me so much. I don’t even ride drop bars.
THAT'S THE NO BS ROAD SHIFTER FOR THE PEOPLE
I am genuinely excited to review this product when available.
@@GravelCyclist I look forward to your "no BS" review!!!
Very cool. I recently swapped to Gevenalle Friction Brifter: best decision ever, bike wise
Love my Gevenalles! I have 9, 10, 11, and 12sp sets!
This is going to change the game.
Very nice shifters,very solid looking.💯👌🏻
Holy Shit! I need these now! Please, please... I am having such a hard time finding a mechanical groupset for my Ritchey build.
need these
Growtac are the same crowd you developed the super efficient Cable hydro brakes. I don’t think this has anything to do with Velo Orange than just been another middleman. Great job for keeping cables alive in an ever expanding electronic environment.
Correct, Velo Orange is the USA importer.
@@GravelCyclistany idea if they have a distributor in the UK?

oh man. I have a arm injury, have to mount all my stuff on the left side, having the option to do the rear shifting with the left shifter would be amazing! Please don't let this be stupid expensive.
I love my Di2 for road, but this is cool 'cause it makes sense on so many levels.
one of those 'why the fk didn't I think of that??' products.
I love friction shifters, far superior in many ways to indexed shifting.
Glad you like friction shifting. I'm not a fan, however, I really like this out of the box take on the technology. I would very happily give these a try. Thanks for chiming in!
Great product
3x8 through 2x11 cues spacing friction shifting with an extra dodad for a dropper post YES.
Most of us with grey or no hair used to ride bikes with friction shifters, but the bikes had only 5 or 6 cogs. I'm curious to see how well this works on 11-speed cassettes.
It's working great on mine. Had it for 2 months.
I think the key here will be how much throw it takes to move the derailleur. I think the main reason for indexing IMHO is that it makes shifting on the fly easy. I have ridden friction on 11 speed, and it can be a bit tricky. So I leave my bar end shifter in index mode. With that said, I have also ridden brifters and I love them. I just went through about a 5 year retrogrouch faze. But as I get back to group riding I want my brifters back. These friction brifters, if they work well...and don't cost more than a normal shimano brifter are really intriguing.
Does it functions like a power ratch dia compe shifter?@@imadeadoodee
Sah-weet!!
The future !
THAT´S COOL - WOULD LIKE TO TEST IT ... BUT THAT´S DIFFICULT IN AUSTRIA/EU ... GREETINGS FROM SALZBURG - RONNY.
Hi Ronny, you may have to contact Growtac from their website, perhaps they can ship directly to you? Good luck!
Woo woo
I’m interested…
I think they have a hot little product on their hands.
I can't find details on the Velo-orange website yet. What brakes are they compatible with?
Cable actuated brakes, so expect Growtac's own brake to work.
Likely short pull as that's what brifters are made for. These look to be a brifter with the ratchets replaced with a friction plate.
@@ShinyUmbreon765 Their website says it'll also have swappable index plates available, as well as a bunch of other customizability.
Oh that's fascinating.
I mean, that's how old campy front shifters work so it makes sense to me. @@stormshaman
They will be onto a winner if they offer swappable index plates for say 9, 10, and 11 speed as well. A lot of riders love that Campy 10 speed era lever shape, me included. Unfortunately, Campy stopped making the replacement index cog for 10 speed at least, so if that ever wears out, you need to buy an entire body kit from Campy.
Hawt!
Agreed, and I typically think friction shifting belongs with the dinosaurs! Excellent shifter feel, I hope to have a review set sometime soon in collaboration with a very sweet frame / fork.
This. Is brilliant. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I'm eagerly waiting mate. It would be spot on with your T-lab bike
@@GravelCyclist Do you have in mind the number of cogs on the cassette? I'm waiting for reviews like yours to give me some insight into whether or not these shifters would work for me....I have a bit of a retrogrouch streak in me, but I'm tired of my bar end shifter. There is a part of me that would love to build up a 1x12 sporty gravel bike with Paul Components Klampers....just to be extra retrogrouchy...ha ha ha.
Ohhh, se me cáe la baba. 🤤🤤
