I've had my FR-S for 3 years now and I absolutely love working on it, even if it's simple maintenance. It's so easy to work on and was really well thought out in terms of mechanical accessibility. Super fun, weird little car. I'm selling mine soon and I'm glad they made zillions of them because this absolutely won't be my last one!
Just found your channel and I am pleasantly surprised at your attention to detail and care. Also amazed you are doing this on the ground. Would a set of tamps help?
Damn! This is what I was looking for! I was reading the manual on the Subaru website and holy crap it was confusing lol I didn’t know where to Plug the wires but now I know which pins to connect to on the OBD!
i did this when i got mine a few years ago. now you've got me thinking i need to do it again, because i didnt drop the pan and change the filter, i just refilled the fluid after dropping the trans and draining everything.
@@sebastienpotente7385 seems like you need to drop the pan to change the filter, and changing the filter at least every 100k miles seems like a real good idea to me. ... but i donno.. past 100k miles, everything is optional. =]
Hell, Robert I would get 2 5 gallon buckets get a ton of WS fluid if you can afford it cause I know it ain’t cheap go up to the cooler lines in front of the engine get some hoses and do a flush that way find out which is the return and which is the pick up start the car and use the torque converter to pump the fluid out until it starts getting red🤔
Correction the 5EAT gasket For the drain plug is 1126AA050 I remember now because my lame ass local Subaru dealer kept trying to sell me drain plugs for the CVT when I specifically told the parts guy it’s the 5EAT…. had to do some research finally walked in with the right part number🤨 it’s sad when you know more than the parts guy at the Subaru dealer in fact I should see if I can get a part-time job helping them out….
Love your videos. Thank you. I have a few Subaru's & I'm wondering whether I'd be better to rebuild my EJ20 JDM Legacy GT Turbo before something serious goes wrong with the engine. It's running fine, doesn't use oil or eat coolant but it's done 485,000 km & I'm sure it is getting tired. I'd hate to completely wreck it spinning a bearing or something. I change the oil every 5000 km & only use the best. What do you think?
Thanks for doing this video, wish I would’ve had such a good resource doing it about a year ago. If you could do one on how to pull injectors that would be great!
Thanks for the great video. When I put a lot of pressure on my car, I have a little smoke and oil leakage from under the engine right above the headers. Do you think the problem is with the gasket around the oil cartridge or not? Can you tell me the name of this washer?
Big dog!! Are you going to do Rocky Mountain Race week this year by chance? It’s my first go and I am doing “road week”, looking to pal up with some fellow Subaru fellers.
Difference between 2008 Subaru Legacy/Outback Used Transmission non turbo, non dynamic control and 2 bolt shifter and the 2008 Impreza same options? Interchangeable?
Ideally . . . Subaru could have installed an ATF Dipstick on that AT with a tube big enough to refill the ATF From Above. Might have cost Subaru $10 to do that . . . but they don't care. I see a lot of things about Subaru Products that tell me . . . They Don't Care . . . A Lot. The dealership mechanics don't even like working on them which leads to the customer being victomized. Disposable cars at expensive cost.
i would guess its different. i think this is the only subaru with a toyota (aisin?) transmission in it. i'm no expert, but i rebuilt a subaru CVT recently and it wanted different fluid.
Question for you since I can’t seem to google fu - and I checked my manual. When or is it ever appropriate to change the gear oil in a MT Subie? (2nd gen OB if that’s needed to know)
My 2013 frs has 42000 miles and never replaced the manual transmission fluid or differential fluid. Dealer told me not necessary after checking, but is that true?
About to change my 2009 Forester with 4EAT transmission oil as well. The manual says it needs Subaru ATF type HP, does it means it same as TOYOTA ATF WS? Or can I purchase fluid based on the TOYOTA ATF WS equivalent?
Can someone help me, i have a 2001 Subaru Forester. Check engine light came on, engine sounds rough and higher pitched than normal. Oil is low, like very low, oil is also dark, burnt color. Car is well maintained and i stopped driving it as soon as the ligkt came on and then checked the oil. Any ideas / advice would be very helpful. Thank you, all!
But why maintaining the car we want to slap a big snail right away and sending it to the moon! Just kidding doing all the maintenance is the key for a long lasting Subaru!
If the factory parts are good . . . then ok. You stand a chance . . . However, things seem scetchy to me. Especially for the high cost If not . . . Fanatical Maint. is not going to save you every time. These are SOA Dealership . . . Dream Cars. You need to be aware of that.
Hey Mr Subaru. Go block some more people on tik tok for not kissing you and snap ons butt, or making harmless parodies of your content. And then turn around and use your platform to attack other businesses and people.
Finally a video on how to service a automatic brz!!!!!!

Bro can u change my spark plugs for me 😂
I know how! @@kewl9
Yea maybe not the spark plugs...
Will be buying parts from subarupartsdeals for my next brake job. Comes out cheaper than my local dealer even with shipping.
My 96 and my nephews 99 outback use a spin on filter on side of case , no issues ,nor even a leak with both of the cars ! Both shift perfectly too.
I don’t know why all transmissions don’t have a spin on filter.
A couple zip ties, for holding the gasket on the pan, helps a lot when mounting.

Wait, so we need to drop the pan or is it optional?
Ha same! Did my first at 60,000 miles and again at 100,000. Makes me wanna do it again too.

Get you a couple of sheets of Masonite to lay on. It will be more comfortable than gravel.
The Impreza is much easier to drain and replace. Great videos on both!

I do love my 06 legacy 2.5l naturally aspirated engine 4speed automatic transmission that the filter is external it’s fairly easy
great video tutorial for BRZ/FRS/GT86. doing front/rear diff fluid change and ATF change on 4EAT trans. love seeing a clean underbody-sans rust. 🤙
As always you make it look so easy!! Thanks again for your videos! Could you do a video on what to lube on a service? Like door locks etc

hi
thx for video
Q:
how hot can transmission oil get without issues on the track ?
A standard rubber gasket is so much better than an RTV one. Subaru should have gone this path instead of the silicone gaskets one. Why Subaru, why?
Thanks for the video Robert nicely done with the BRZ 👍✅❤️❤️ it. Take care of yourself and family and Girlfriend and be Blessed.

How much quarts do you need if you are just draining and refilling?
Have you considered it is time to install a lift to help in all the fine work you do?
Nice job well done!

Excellent Video. Great walk through and learning experience. Many thanks !!!
What frequency change do you suggest for the MT? And how would you cycle it to ensure a good cleanse? Differential too? Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
Did it some months ago, took me about 7-9 cycles to completely remove dirty atf oil, did diff too but oil was in good condition
How did you get the exhaust off so easy
How did you learn how to fix cars and trucks?
36,000 mile service! Then I need to do mine every 8 months. Not every 3 years. I average 51,000 miles a year.
Need to do this to my cvt. Good video, surprised that is an auto though. Only seen them manual.
You know he’s a pro by not wearing rubber gloves I would’ve had this transmission fluid in my armpits

What are the most reliable current Subaru models? Thanks!
Great vid! Thanks.
Is it the same procedure as manual transmission but with manual gear fluid?
Do you know how to fix a P2757 Code: Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit Performance / Stuck Off code?
Idk why but in my car those arrows turn off after a while and it drops the rpms in the same moment
Can you do this service on all Subaru transmission. I have a 2018 Subaru legacy 2.5i sport almost at 100k miles.

Yes
Is the transmission filter for a 2015 Scion frs the same for manual and automatic

3yr/36k miles is the interval.

Think the 17008AA000 is the tranny, my 5EAT takes the same...
Nice .. Thank you.
Anyone know if these parts would fit/compatible on my 2016 scion frs?

Fluids are cheaper than failed mechanical parts.

No. You use ATF HP on the 4EAT. Do not use a Toyota ATF-WS.
@@MrSubaru1387 Thanks! Is any ATF HP equivalent recommended?
@@yuchenliu6939 why not use the correct ATF-HP? It’s made by Idemitsu. They have an equivalent

For the algorithm!
My car now dies at stop lights after doing the flush, and shifts rough
Any update??

Pull the codes.
Any one of your subarupartsdeals links take me to 404 error page. What's the deal?
No clue. They all work fine for me.

Hey the lower control arms are weird lookin’. Just sayin’
Why do you work outside. I know you have a shop and a lift.
Bro your not even flat rate you are just a parts changer
All those snap on tools and you can’t afford a manual transmission car just disgusting
