Hi, I’m Rob from Mutz Music. I'm basically an amateur having fun playing and singing old classic rock songs. I usually post a couple of songs a month and recently started posting 5 song mini sets that I call "5 Song Friday" in which I try to do 5 songs in a row to see if I can get thru a 5 song set without making too many mistakes. I am definitely not a professional..Lol. I typically load these 5 song mini sets on either the 1st or last Friday of the month and will sometimes load one up in the middle of the month.
I'm also into the hobby of Home Recording and like to experiment with different recording techniques. I will occasionally talk about the equipment I own and any challenges I might be having using it.
Feel free to post comments on how I can improve. Also, let me know if you have a similar music channel that I can check out.

5 Song Friday - Episode #17 (With Rode Wireless Go 2 mic)
For this episode I recorded everything through a Rode Wireless Go II mic directly to my camera. Kind of a LoFi setup. Other than my playing...lol, I don't think it sounds too bad. I got a fairly balanced mix between the vocal, guitar and the sound of the room.

The Mac Intel chip won’t accommodate Musio as I have sadly learned.
Hi Mutz. Thanks for the great videos! Sadly I also have the @ 15:26 "buffering'" issue when connecting my Model 12 to a DAW on an iPad. The music is playing but it`s all cracking and jumping. I`ve actually tried about 12 Apple devices and only 3 worked without issues. Have you found a fix for this possibly please? Keep up the good work!
No, I haven't found a solution yet, but to be honest I only tried this once. Plus my iPad is 10 years old, so I assumed that was part of the problem. When I get a chance I'll play around with it again to see if I have better luck. Thanks for watching!
@@mutzmusic5737 Ok, maybe you'll have more luck then me, please do let me know if you find something. Thanks for reaching out and be well!
Bravo! I learned so much thanks a million.
Thanks for watching!
A VERY COOL INFORMATIVE VIDEO MATE... THANKS
Thanks!
Brilliant stuff... Thankyou so much, opened up new windows for me...
Great videos. You sound a bit like Gil Gunderson from The Simpsons though.
Lol...thanks!
I'm crushing it on an imac 2012 Mojave, running Kore2 and Logic 10.5. Super grateful for what I've got.
This whole series has been great!! Have watched multiple times already. PLEASE do a part 4 about track management! That's such a good idea. I'd love to see more. Thank you so so so much for doing these breakdowns, Really really helpful
Thanks, I just started Part 4. It might take a week or two for me to finish.
I don’t know what the fuzz is about, Apple doesn’t innovate anymore, these upgrades are cheesy at best, why do we want an arranger like thing like band in a box? Cheesy!!! The things that are missing for intel users can easily be replaced by just about any plugin for any company. Sometimes for free. In my opinion this is not a necessary upgrade.
So helpful, i knew the basics but this answered so many questions i had
Thanks, glad it helped!
Absolutely.... I think it's very unfair.... And if you have to buy a new computer every 5 years is very sad Apple do not facilitate the owners of an Intel Macs.... Great Video !!! Do we get all the new sound packs?
I have been using an AKAI MPK mini as a midi tool to record into Logic Pro for years, but I recently bought 2 synthesizers that I want to start recording with-I got the model 12 because I'm not stopping at 2 synths, lol. I have the Model 12 set up as a DAW controller and I can record the MPK mini with it just fine, but my 2 synthesizers that I want to record with aren't making it into the DAW/computer. I know there is a signal going into the 12 from the synths-I have them plugged into tracks 1 and 2, but I'm not getting any sound other than noise on my DAW. I'm sure it's something basic, but I'm new to the analog world after recording with software/midi instruments exclusively for years.
Thanks for watching. I'm not a heavy midi user, so I'm not sure how helpful I can be. If I understand your problem, it sounds like you are using your M12 as an audio interface to bring in your 3 midi devices into your DAW. I assume you are trying to bring the analog signal from all 3 devices and only the Akai MPK is coming thru. How are the 3 devices hooked up to the M12? Are they all hooked up by USB (with a USB Hub)? If so, do the 2 synths have the capability to send the analog signals over USB or do they only send the mini signal? You may want to try "Teffy & Meems" channel. He's a synth player and has a couple of M12 how to videos such as "How to setup MPC One with Tascam Model 12 and hardware synths" that you night find helpful.
@@mutzmusic5737 thanks for the reply! I will check out Teffy and Meems and keep working on it. Great videos BTW!
Thanks for three great videos on the Model 12! And yes I would love to know how to record more than 10 tracks on the Model 12.
Thanks! I'm actually just starting Part 4. Might take me a few weeks. Hopefully, I'll have it up by the end of November or early December.
Good of you to make this video. I feel generally the same way. My first imac was a 2011 refurb that lasted through 2020. My 2020 imac is 4 years old, used half as much, and has a loud fan and broken usb port. Also, not a fan of the inability to upgrade your ram independently. Disappointing. Thanks for showing the stem splitter alternative. You're right- it's still a powerful system even without the chip.
Do the channel and the track have to be the same when recording? For instance, if you plug into channel 1, can you record it onto track 5, for example?
Yes, I believe they do. But you can always move what was recorded on track 1 (channel 1) to track 5 by using the Track Swap function (MTR/Track Edit/Track Swap)
@@mutzmusic5737 Thanks. I'll down-load the manual and read up on that before I commit to buying.
Help! can not switch to punch in and out with Foot pedal No asterisk showing
Thanks for watching. While I've punched in and out, I've never used a Foot pedal with my M12, so I'm not familiar with your problem. However, I did find a video on TH-cam called "Tascam Model 24 punch in /out footswitch RC-1F how to" which might help you.
@mutzmusic5737 I watched thoes videos but they all were able to switch modes but thank you I'll contact Tascam thank you Sir.
Nice job, Rob!! Great songs, my friend!!!
Thanks. I always value your opinion. In fact, your channel inspired me to start learning some blues songs.
very nice and useful review!
Thanks for watching!
You think they are releasing the tascam 1200 this year?
I really don't know, but my guess is probably not this year. They just came out with the Model 2400 and usually it takes a year or two for things to trickle down to the next model.
Would the Model 12 be able to drive another Model 12 via the midi in/out?
No, this was one of my wish list items. While the M12 can drive other devices like a drum machine, it can't be driven. So if you hook it up to a second M12, I don't believe the 2nd M12 would respond.
@mutzmusic5737 Has anyone tried?
Have become interested in the DAW (Logic) controller capabilities and started watching reviews. Thanks for the in-depth look- I haven’t even looked around at other models/ brands. I’m really interested in using a Jamstik guitar midi controller through their software and then re-amping into a pedal board and recording that signal. Any reasons that workflow wouldn’t work with the M12?
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do, nor I'm I that familiar with the Jamstik, but I'll take a stab at it. You can use the M12 as an audio interface to your DAW (Logic) and send midi thru the M12 into Logic. The M12 has midi in and out. You can then play back the sounds from your DAW software and record that back on the M12 if you wanted to. As far as re-amping, you can send your DAW's recorded direct guitar signal back thru the M12 and out using an AUX send. That would then go to a re-amp box if you have one and then to either your pedal board or guitar amp. You can also record the guitar's direct signal on the M12 and send that out to a re-amp box and into a pedal board or amp and record that back as well. That I have actually done and it worked. Just be aware when ever sending signals in an out of anything, you could get a ms of latency, which may or may not be noticeable.
A cool thing is that’s it’s a lifetime purchase. By the time you upgrade your computer you’ll still get the free updates in Logic.
That's a good point
its no big deal really. your intel mac from 2017-2020 is dead by now anyway, if it isn’t its about to die. total lemons and probably made that way on purpose so power users will have to upgrade.
not a live wire
I just watched all three of your videos on the Model12 and I want to thank you so much for your extensive work! I can't believe how many things I didn't know about that machine...
Thanks for watching. Glad it was helpful. I'm not exactly a pro reviewer, so hopefully, I wasn't too wordy..lol. I know there are a lot of great videos on the M12 out there, but most of them are kind of piecemeal and one topic at a time. I wanted to do a set of videos that was a little more inclusive and also include some tips I learned over the last few years I've owned mine.
I enjoyed that version. A bit of Frank and Sid inspiration. 👍
One of my favorite Sid songs. Except the part about killing a cat..lol...Thanks!
Thank you! Worked like a charm!
Very cool... Learned a couple of things I wasn't aware of!!!
Thanks! I'm subscribed to recording studio 9 and now your channel. You guys have really helped me get to grips with the model 12. All the best from Britain.
Thanks for subscribing, although I think Recording Studio 9 is probably better. I'm just an amateur and he's a pro..Lol.
Great video thanks. As far as I know the mixer is digital only the pre amps are analogue.
Thanks for watching. You're correct, only the preamps are analog on the M12.
8:15 You say "I haven't got anything turned up yet" Indeed you haven't. In fact, you have your gain knob at MINUS 10 dB at that moment...First set that at zero..THEN start your setup/gain-staging. That is what I meant in my earlier comment.
Thanks for watching. Technically, you are correct since I have a line level device hooked up and not a mic. Yes, I'm technically attenuating the single until I bring it from -10db to zero. I should know better since I went over this very topic in Part 1 "Features" when I explained the difference using the Gain for mic vs Line level signals. But I don't always practice what I preach. I usually always keep all my Gain knobs off (-10db Line or Zero for Mic), until I hook something up and then slowly bring up the gain. But yes, since it was a line level devices, I should have started at Zero. Good catch!
Why don't you (standard) set all your Gain knobs to zero?? The way you have them set right now, is at minus (-) 10 dB.....(or as we call it "pad-switch on modus) So you currently have all inputs set at "attenuation on". A lot of Model 12 users tend to overlook this. Zero (0) is somewhere at 11 O' clock.
Bravo , merci 🙏🏻
Love it, tell me why barbie makes an appearance sometimes 🙂
Those are my groupies. Just like my fans, sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't . Thanks for watching!😊
Is it me, or does the model 12 sound analog? Im using the usb pc link. Running through the 12 gives a pleasing less digital sound when running through individual track channels.
I do agree that it does sound a little less digital than some of the other interfaces I've used in the past.
Is the summing in the model 12 analog or digital? Great video btw.
Thanks, I think it's all digital. To my knowledge only the preamps on the M12 are analog,
Thx for the tips/tricks! When you connected the MPC ONE, I could detect a rather clear latency going on. How do you tackle this, either on the MPC One or the Model 12?
Thanks for watching. If you're referring to my Midi (MPC) example, I don't notice any latency. The second I hit "Play "on the Model 12, the MPC One starts playing instantly. If you are referring to when the keyboard/synth comes in that I mapped to tracks 1 & 2 in my demo, to my ear, I will agree that that particular instrument sounds like it coming in a few milliseconds late off the beat. But that has nothing to do with the M12. I used a "demonstration project" that came with the MPC One and it's exactly how it sounds if you listened directly on the MPC One. Otherwise, if that's not what you are referring to, I need you to be more specific where you hear the latency.
@@mutzmusic5737 Yep, that's it, when the synths come in from the MPC One I hear a distinct latency. I get that it's not to do with the M12, but I am wondering how you can correct it? Thx for your answer. :)
@@jenssonntag908 I have no idea how to correct it. This was a canned program/demo that came with the MPC One. My guess is who ever programmed the sequence had the synth came in a few ms late. I suppose if I really knew what I was doing with the MPC One, I could probably nudge the synth to come in a couple ms earlier, but I'm still learning how to use it.
@@jenssonntag908 There is a timing correction setting in the menu. but since the Model 12 is fully digital from the inputs down , this can sometimes be a (small ) issue, specially if not set up correct.
Best model 12 tutorial out there! Thx so much!
Wow, thanks for watching!
Great review! I really love my Model 12 mixer interface more and more when watching your video!
True story: Though the band Bread originated in Los Angeles, David Gates was from Tulsa, OK. The band's publicist wanted to send a press release to the local news paper in Tulsa, anouncing the success of this song. But the person at the paper who took down the information didn't hear it poperly and didn't ask for clarification. When the paper came out the press release read, "Local artist has radio success with his song "Naked with you"
As far as covers of that song, I think Eddy Murphy did it best. Maybe even better than Sting, INHO
Informative video thank you, I also have a model 12 one ting I don't like when am recording vocals punching in etc ,the click sound that the buttons make are so loud it records into the track, those buttons should be rubber and silent
Fun
Thanks!
Great tips! I have a question regarding the use of external effects. You gave an example of using chorus on the guitar through the left sub output (hard pan), but in this case, shouldn't the effect be used in stereo? Sorry if it's a silly question. That tip was amazing and will help me a lot. Thank you!
Thanks for watching. The effect coming back would be in stereo. Typically, the signal going out of the M12 and out of the Sub Out would be mono. It would then go to the outboard chorus effect. Just like it would be if your guitar was plugged directly into the effect itself. Assuming you're using a stereo chorus, it would then come back into the M12 in stereo. In my example, I think I had it come back to stereo channels 9&10.
@@mutzmusic5737 make sense. Thanks

thank you for the model 12 series.... would it be possible for you to make a video specifically about using stereo fx pedals with the model 12 and 2 sends, a step by step? I have seen a couple of other people do it and they are so convoluted when they explain it.. the way you explain things is great... regards
Thanks for watching and I hope the videos were helpful. As far as doing a video on using effects pedals with the M12, I did talk a little about how to use multiple outboard effects on my Part 2 "Tips and Tricks" video, but in the interest of time, I didn't include an actual demo. I only occasionally do gear videos, but if I get around to doing another one or a Part 4 video, I'll include a demo with pedals. As far as whether I can explain it better than anyone else, we'll have to see..Lol.
