Utopia - Has advanced robotics and drone control, a design philosophy built around minimizing personal casualties by either going hard on mobility/stealth or going hard on full force firepower, has jetpacks Me - *Very Heavy Breathing*
One interesting thing I noticed about Utopia is that in one of the army lists you can take CEF frames, thing is it's not Kogland or Steelgate, its Greenway and the Independent States. Those crazy environmentalist over in Greenway found a way to jam an NAI into a F6-16.
Can we say Utopia is the story of Armor Core. Utopia doesn't have a lot of fire power but has elite apes to not be under estimated and fucking terrifying. Keep Up the Good Work
it is utterly wild to me that they can just build a drone that fights like an ace pilot. Metal comes out of a factory, you can just shove more resources in to get more out, but ace pilots who can throw around 5 dice? those are rare and you need to preserve them. But they can just, manufacturer drones with that level of skill, so if they need to expend it they know exactly when the next ones rolling off the factory instead of hoping some pilot gets really good without dying.
Utopia's backstory was never easy to swallow. They were a late colony that needed centuries to terraform, so it would have had very low population compared to Terra Nova or even Caprice (the Cat's Eye Trench is minimally habitable). But the moment the Concordat collapses they fracture and start tossing nukes around. And then, reduced to living in underground cities, they just continue fighting each other despite having super low populations and no real advantage to be gained by fighting because the surface is basically uninhabitable. Like that's some serious commitment to suicidal idiocy. The thing is it never would have been hard to justify the Utopian gimmick of Armingers controlling a bunch of drones.
So I bit the bullet and my first heavy gear proxies for Battletech aught to hit the table this week. Here’s to hoping it gets more popular as a result.
With so many invasion factions, does the game have anything for playing them in a capacity other than 'We are the invaders'? As I imagine you'll often get 'But I wanna play a Drone Mech' alongside 'I wanna pilot a Hunter'. Deserter forces or 'Look, every single one of our planets is planning to rebel the moment they think they have a chance'?
Not really in lore, I think, you can build whatever as long as you can talk your DM into it, but a lot like Battletech, Heavy Gear is a constant stream of 'you know, we haven't had a war in a while, let's incite one."
@@thomasscroggs4410 Fair enough. I got pondering it because Through The Breach (The Malifaux RPG) goes out of it's way to go 'look, this is how X faction could easily be a player character, even if you'd think they wouldn't be able to fit in'.
Think that's how it's intended really, you can't exactly... acquisition them as Terra Novans, and the invasion vassal force most certainly have brought enough to Terra Nova.
Utopia: “You know how we have big robot suits.”
CEF: “Yes?”
Utopia: “What if they were just robots?”
Utopia: A radioactive hellscape that didn't get screwed over by their reliance on autonomous killer robots for once. Thanks for the video.
Thats new at least

The Gilgamesh, when you want to play Steve Jackson’s OGRE but with Heavy Gears

Another great vid!
And as a little bit of trivia: APES = Augmented Power Environmental Suit
It is interesting to see an entire faction dedicated to using Drones. You don't see those as much in Mecha.
There was that one faction in Gundam Wing that started using drones pretty heavily.
The MAR-DK, for when you want to be a one person pincer attack.

The most modern Sci-Fi-feeling faction.

MAR-DK aka A FREAKING METAL GEAR WITH TREADS

take a shot every time someone says drone:
The backstory of this is just Armored Core!

APES: Armored Personnel/Patrol Exo Suit?
Autotank
Aka Bolo/Ogres.
I feel Utopian units should be given Rare traits outside of Utopia.
