I suppose the other thing we should consider is that many poor people in the Far East will grow their guavas from seed as they can’t afford to buy grafted plants so not only will there be genetic variation but the fruit your seeds came from might have been on a red fruited plant but the flowers might have cross pollinated with a pink or white guava nearby so you could well have a brand new crossed variety, great fun to see what happens one day !
Hadn't thought of that Brett. Yes it's possible the seeds have come from a cross pollinated fruit and the seller has genuinely thought these were red guava. I'll keep growing them as they took ages to germinate, putting all that effort in, if one day I can get them to flowering stage.🤞
Yes it's just a lottery when you buy seeds online from private sellers who only use a common name for what they are selling as of course they will use their own personal local common name for what they are selling and its only what they THINK they are growing 😂. The Malaysian Red and Purple FOREST guava are 2 entirely different species, however to a lot of people the Malaysian red guavas actually look completely purple in colour 😂. Even the flesh is purple to be honest. And of course some darker pink fleshed guavas are referred to as red by many people. I've seen Malaysian and Thai red plants with those glorious deep red leaves in videos but others that produce dark red / purple fruits that have normal green leaves, clearly a different variety. I suppose if you buy seeds from a proper commercial seed company by Latin and Variety name that you MIGHT get what you wanted but even then there's no certainty. Thankfully at least you definitely got guava seeds and seedlings and you know they will be genetically completely different as they are from opposite sides of the world 😁. They look super healthy 😁
At least one lot will be purple. Yes buying online is definitely a lottery. At least the seller from Spain was honest and sent me pictures of her tree and it's fruit. Just need those red stems from Bangladesh to root now 🤞
Wow yummy guava thank you for great sharing have a good day take care ❤❤❤
