    Thank you for putting up this video, Louise. I had been thinking about getting a Siam Ruby Banana plant for a number of years, and after watching your video I popped into B&M and purchased one! It doesn’t have as many pups as yours (only 3 plants in one pot), but still great value considering the size.

I only ended up moving my 2 young grafted avocados (from the large London tree) indoors last night, but I've put them back out again now. Lovely healthy banana plants, Louise! I have heard B&M had been getting some of them in. Those were fantastic value! I have both of them, but I got them as tiny plug plants. The Grand Nain that I managed to overwinter indoors has been growing in the greenhouse this year, it’s still not as big as yours though. I find Grand Nain doesn’t pup as much as Dwarf Cavendish. Mine has one small pup, but my Dwarf Cavendish at the same size would have put out 5 or 6 by now. Grand Nain is another Cavendish type and is fairly small in size (for a banana), but I believe it does get a little bit bigger than the regular Dwarf Cavendish. It’s the main cultivar used by the Chiquita brand of bananas. Siam ruby is one I’ve wanted for years, and it’s been very hard to find up until recently. I don’t know why, but all of a sudden this year they have been appearing everywhere. I guess some growers in the Netherlands must be producing them on a huge scale via tissue culture. I have a few that I picked up online in a sale, I think about £5 each, but they were tiny plug plants. One of mine is only really starting to get its red leaves now. I think it will be a struggle to keep them alive over winter indoors with them being so small. You might have a better chance with your larger specimen.

    • @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000
      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @PeterEntwistle thanks for the info on the Grand Nain Peter. I was really surprised to see these at B&M and for such a reasonable price. I think the Grand Nain there were only 2 pots left and the one I bought had a single pup. The Siam ruby which I've no experience of growing has 7 in one pot all of a similar size, so I'm unsure if they are individual plants or pups?

    • @PeterEntwistle
      @PeterEntwistle 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 the Siam Ruby are likely all pups. When they’ve been tissue cultured (which I’m guessing they will have been) there is a greater chance of bananas producing pups at a younger age. I think most of mine have a pup or 2. I’d probably wait until next spring before separating them now. However, you could remove one from the outside carefully if you wish to have a backup plant.

    Nice to see your butternut squash and pumpkins are coming along well, Louise. Shame about the blight on the tomato plants 😢. I need to check on mine again this weekend, they were looking ok. I did plant them quite late in the season (unintentionally), so I don't know if I'll get any to ripen. I'll definitely have to start the seeds off earlier next year.

    • @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000
      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @PeterEntwistle if the tomatoes fail to ripen, I'll cook them green, make a chutney, or relish out of them. The pumpkins I think are ornamental. The butternut squash and pumpkin are great for filling spaces and can hide all those weeds. The cucumber did well growing horizontally, and they were nice crisp, and no hint of bitterness in the skin.

    The lotus seed is protected by a very hard shell. In order to get water into the seed one must scarify the pointed end of the outer shell. Use course sand paper or a metal file etc to file away the shell until some whiteish tissue is seen. If careful, one can use a hammer to crack the shell. Doing this will allow germination to occurs in 3 days to a week. Not scarifying is the reason your seeds took several months to show any growth. I enjoyed your video. You have a nice presence.

    Louise, 10 mins into your vid here you do some pretty brutal pruning - how has that worked out this summer? Did you get a decent growth spurt and flowers as planned? Also, did you try and get the section (Cutting) you cut off to grow - did that work? Mine are doing well at the moment, all got lots of bracts and some growth, I'd like to see a lot more growth as I'm trying to train them to grow a across a wall.

      @@someblokecalleddave1 oh I got plenty of growth, lots of green leaves but with this terrible summer there are no flowers, there hasn't been enough sun up here in Manchester. In past years I've had them flower indoors but very late in the year or early spring..

    Hello. I’ve just subscribed after watching your video as you’re similar to myself! Living in UK and growing all desi vegetables and flowers. Great to share with gardeners with same interests. I’ll go through all your other videos soon. Just bought a bougainvillea plant and looking for information. Thank you so much.

    Always a tasting lottery here with new mango varieties eh Louise 😁

      @lyonheart84 my husband has tasted them and preferred the Bari 4. He had the Fazli mango this morning and said it was definitely the sweetest out of the 3. I was surprised at the coconutty flavour of the Katimon. Apparently these 2 are late season mangoes and can be the reason why they are not as sweet as the ones that are ready in July.

      @shamsgardeningcrafts I'v read about Bari 4 mango, and when I was in Dhaka there were trees at the nursery with Bari 4 but not fruiting. Never saw the fruit there either. And Katimon too. Today the guy unloading the van showed me the variety so I thought why not try it. The Bangladeshi shop was charging £20 a box buy I got them for £11 at Appna

    3:17 Pink Banana, Not Edible? This is not true, the pink banana is edible. When ripe has sweet and tangy flavour. If you don't believe me, that's okay. Video of pink banana taste test here... th-cam.com/video/ca7Gb0Jel8U/w-d-xo.html 😅

      @district5inlondon the amount of seeds it had if you watched the video would make eating it extremely unpleasant, that is what's meant by inedible

      @@louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 So are you saying despite the fruit having edible flesh, It is full of hard inedible seeds. If I tried a pink banana I would take a small bite out the fruit, get the pulp off the seeds spit out the seeds and swallow the pulp. P.S can you give me more information so I can understand more about Musa Velutina😊

    Great to see your Yuzu flowing and forming fruitlets Louise. I have 2 Yuzu trees over 1m in height. I have has only one flower on one of the trees, and that flowers has set fruit now the size of a large cherry. Both of my tree will be overwintered outdoors.

      @@myexoticfoodplants6727 I decided to get this after I saw the video you posted on the London Citrus with the yellow fruits. The mystery citrus. I think that was a Yuzu as the leaves had a large petiole, and not the Bangladeshi Shatkora or C. Macroptera, as someone said, because its leaves are double exactly like the Makrut lime. Or it may be a grapefruit.
