    'Wolf Eyes' is a particularly popular cultivar of the Chinese dogwood (Cornus kousa). Like the species plant, which is native to China, Korea, and Japan, 'Wolf Eyes' is a multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree with white flowers that appear for up to six weeks in late spring. The form of Chinese dogwood is spreading, with multiple branches tracing a somewhat horizontal pattern.
    The 'Wolf Eyes' cultivar also adds a creamy white edging to the grey green foliage, and it is a smaller cultivar than the pure species, topping out at 15 feet rather than the 30-foot.
    The rounded berry that succeeds the flowers starts yellowish-green; it is surrounded by the white bracts. This is perhaps the origin of the cultivar name-the berries being the pupils of the wolf's eyes, the bracts being the whites of the eyes. The ripened berry is raspberry-like in appearance, bearing a red color. #kousa dogwood tree

      @@GardenObsessions They're beautiful in the fall also. The leaves turn this sunset orange/peachy/pink that's amazing! I don't know that a really have the room in my yard for another huge tree though. I wonder if keeping it in a large pot would keep smaller?

    I'm curious if you have ever heard of the Cornus Controversa Variegata (aka The Wedding Cake tree)? That one is beautiful as well, but I believe it grows taller.

    I have the same tree but my refuses to bloom. I think it’s because I planted it in full sun so most of its energy is spent on producing leaves. Like you I see it from my window and I love its variegated leaves and branch structure.

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes maybe try less sun earlier in the season. Hopefully yours does what it needs to. I will say that depending what zone your in it still may flower as it is one of the latest bloomers of dogwoods.

    Ambrose this is just beautiful. I have a Cornus Alba Sibirica dogwood, only planted it last year so it’s still very young but I hope it looks as lovely as yours does.

    Beautiful tree! It would contrast well with a pink dogwood or a Japanese maple. Texture contrast would be a dwarf blue spruce.. something that exaggerates the beauty of that "Wolfie". Drool..

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yess!!! Love your choices! 😍 We are actually thinking of adding some blue I think it really needs it. Dwarf blue spruce is on top of list. I recently had a friend show us a pink dogwood and we fell in love with it. Have a beautiful day!! 🙏💐💚

    My Wolf Eye dogwood leafs beautifully but immediately the leaf tips begin turning brown. Do you know what causes this? I love the tree too but want to help it and don't know how.

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Chinese dogwood trees are so beautiful! You can definitely have a dogwood in a container as long as the container is a good size. One of the wonderful things about these trees is that they are very cold hardy and do great in containers. 💚 We also live in zone 7b.

    I have 2 Dogwoods but would love this variegated one! How long can you keep it in a pot?

    • @GardenObsessions
      @GardenObsessions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could essentially be in a pot for years as long as you keep moving up in size every 2 to 3 years. Knowing how much growth your tree should grow in one years span and logging that in should tell you when it’s time to up pot.
