    good morning,
if I do the test that starts at time 00:25 and I get very similar values, it means that the regulator-rectifier works 100% correctly?
My battery has become hot and started smoking; Now, doing test diodes that you did, the tester gives me the correct results.
I would like to know if giving correct results with test diodes, can be equally broken and send to overcharge the battery.
    thank you so much

I am having some issues with my rectifier i think, and I found out that the VD across one diode is 0.480v dc instead of 0.507v dc that i get on the other 2 diodes. Do you reckon that is a sign of a faulty diode, or do you believe that the problem comes from somewhere else?

Hy Russel. I am having a problem on my motorcycle, maybe you can help me? I am stuck at the part that it says I need to check for generator resistance and the reference numbers are BETWEEN 0.1 and 1.0 Ohmns. If I get no-continuity then it says I have a faulty generator.
HOWEVER my number shows continuity, they are between 1.5 and 2.0 ohms but they are off specification and the service manual says nothing about that case.
    I am lost here.
Also, the service manual also says to "check generator core is insulated" but it doesnt show how and I couldn't find anything on the internet about that. Can you explain me this?
    Thanks a lot

Hi very good video on how to do it. I have an XL 600 RM from 1986 and am trying to check the regulator rectifier, but I am not sure I am doing it the correct way. It has 3 yellow wires of course and then it has 3 more wires, a red/white, a green and a black. How should I test this? I seem to be getting no readings at all by testing it as per the Honda workshop manual. Thanks in advance.

    Great video!
Hope you can help on this issue:
A few days ago, while riding my SYM VS 125, a lot of smoke started coming out of the front of the bike and the engine started to fail. I turned off the ignition and cut the battery current.
At home I took it apart to see what was going on and the rectifier was visibly burnt.
I took the bike to a workshop where they changed the rectifier and the battery, but they didn't solve the problem. The new rectifier continues to heat up a lot and too fast, as if something is short circuiting.
As they couldn't solve the problem and it still cost me a few €€, I picked up the motorcycle with the fault.
    Tests i have done:
    - the battery is new and has 13.1V before the starter
    - with the three yellow wires from the stator connected to the rectifier, the bike works fine at low revs, fails at medium and the rectifier heats up uncontrollably; with these wires disconnected from the rectifier, the bike works well at any speed, but as we know, the battery is not charged
    - at idle the 3 yellow wires measure about 40V from stator
    - the resistant test on stator show equal values on three wires; no ground conductivity; no open circuit on each coil
    - apparently all the masses are well connected.
Any idea what it could be causing this recurrent failure of the rectifier?
Note: traditional G6Y carburetor engine with electronic rectifier and CDI, year 2010.

My 2007 Triumph Speed Triple has an issue trying to start. I thought it was the battery so I purchased a new one but that doesn't seem to be the problem. The issue: When trying to start the bike the starter will turn over for just a second or two and then nothing and the dash lights and headlight all go black. I tested the battery when off the bike and it says 12.95 volts but after installed and this issue arises and the dash goes black the battery, while still installed shows 1.25 volts or thereabouts, I don't remember exactly but the reading goes really low.
Then I disconnect the battery and it reads just fine, 12.9 volts. When I reconnect the same sequence happens again...Headlight and dash will come on and when I push the starter button the starter will only turn over for a second or two then stop and the lights all go black.
I pulled the alternator rectifier and tested the diodes and they all read fine, about .542 or so on all three and reversing polarity same results.
Do you think if the regulator is bad it will cause this shutting off of system and then the low volt reading when the battery is still connected?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Hi there, I have a triumph street triple r 2011 and am having problems with keeping the battery charged. I did this test - with the positive lead on the negative connection i was getting a reading in the 500's on all pins, but with the negative lead on the positive connection i was getting a reading in the 130's on all pins (note my diode tester shows readings differently, e.g. as 138 not as 0.138). Does this imply the rectifier is the problem? Thanks.

    • @peterhagan2712
      @peterhagan2712 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, from my experience that is the regulators job, to limit the charging voltage to the battery. So if it is overcharging your battery it is not regulating the voltage to your battery, so the regulator/rectifier is in need of replacing. Hope that helps you out

It is my understanding that each diode has two functions. 1. To allow flow in one direction. Hence the .56x reading. And 2. To prevent flow in the opposite direction. Hence the OL (out of limits) or 0.0 reading. It could fail in either direction so you still want to check all three diodes in both directions don’t you?
