Anne Hathaway will make an AWESOME Elphaba!! She is an amazing singer!!!! She has the look!! She is great at those ugly/geeky transformations into beautiful!!!
@IGiveMyLife2Follow She had 2 standbys... or rather, a standby and an understudy. Eden was the understudy (I forget which one she was sometimes). Eden even did a performance with Kristen Chenowith, you can listen to the recording somewhere around here... and heh, yeah, Eden was great at Pocohantas. And I loved Stephanie's performance, she was great. I suggest you look at Eden's last performance in LA, I think there are still a few vids of it up around here...
Idina Menzel and kristin chenoweth aare the only perfect roles for wicked or marcie dodd and helene yorke i saw them perform! Amazing!!!!! and can anne even sing?
When they make the movie adaptation, here's my cast choices so far: Elphaba - Idina Menzel, Natalie Portman, or Emmanuelle Chriqui. Glinda - Kristen Chenoweth or Reese Witherspoon. Nessarose - Lea Michelle or Anne Hathaway. (I have yet to figure out the rest, sorry for any disappointments)
Never! God, Idina is the only possible choice and only with Kristin. I could also recommend Willemijn Verkaik from German Wicked but she's not popular (ironic, huh?) enough, I guess, but really amazing!
Anne Hathaway is PHENOMENAL!!!! A BRILLIANT actress! But, she would be better as Nessarose! She doesn't have the vocal pyrotechnics to be Elphaba. Idina is still the best choice for Elphaba in the movie. Anne would be great as Idina's sister though -- truly!
Wow. If I wasn't already convinced Hathaway was wrong for the role, this picture seals the deal for me. NO. As Nessarose, perhaps... as Elphaba, no way!
@17DefyingGravity Ya I know! Anne Hathaway was going to play the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera but then she had to do Princess Diaries 2 so Emmy Rossum got the part. Don't get me wrong i love Emmy Rossum, but it would have been interesting to see Anne Hathaway in that role.
The only thing i think u should have dona was leave her hair the way it was in the original picture, other than that i think she'd be an amazing elphaba... i hope it's her!!!!!
ok i get that but on stage is an entirely different medium then film, and on stage a 44 y/o can convincingly play elphaba and Glinda cuz on stage they are representing the character, so it's not nearly as important that they truly look the age they are supposed to, in fact none of the actresses who have plaied it look yonger than about 28-29 and on stage that's just fine, but on film they need to be the character, look, the character, and sound the character, idina and kristen have 2 out of...
yea they are, first of all i LOVE Kristen, LOVE HER! i'm an Idina fan and would def go see her in the show, i have, but on screen they absolutely can NOT pull of 18 years old... they are in college, and the reason it didn't matter for Meryl streep is cuz her character is a mom and they never really touch on her age. it's quite apparent that glinda and elphaba are college students... so thumbs down me cuz u don't like wut ur reading but the odds of any OBC in the movie are slim to none...
Well okay that was interesting. I don't know what Anne Hathaway has to do with wicked. And although Idina is AMAZING I would hope that if there were to be a movie made, it would be based on the original story which is the book and not the play; in fact the two differ quite a bit. The book is way better! Actually they all are
HATE to say it - but the trend with turning Musicals into Blockbuster movies is finding the biggest name who can pull it off, not giving Broadway a chance - hopefully that will change - if they go Broadway it will be Idina - if the go movie star, Anne is a viable choice.
i think Anne Hathaway would be the wrong choice for Elphaba, and if you have the great experience of seeing this musical on the stage, then you will understand. It is a wonderful stage production, and don't get me wrong Anne Hathaway is a fine actress and good but wrong I believe for Elphaba.
good technical skills... however, i don't think hathaway would be a good choice. she's basically a younger idina menzel (anyone who's seen Rent and/or Brokeback Mt. will agree with me) now, if they were going to make the movie based on THE BOOK, then anne might be an okay choice. but the musical? unless you want it to be rated-R....
@IGiveMyLife2Follow I respect your liking Idina better, there's nothing wrong with that, but Eden... yes, she's no Idina, but if she was, I wouldn't like her so much. When it came to acting, Eden was just so much more realistic, she played around with the character, she put in so much to the role, and when it came to singing, her voice is just so... *witchy*. And actually, I was informed that Elphaba was originally going to be Stephanie J Block; plus Eden was Idina's standby.
Ugh, "big names". Who cares about "big names"?! All that matters is that the right actress has to play the right part! As for Eden... well alright, I will agree that she's not *entirely* packaged, so to speak, but I still stand by my conviction that she should be Elphie (but I will say this: for the movie, the actress has to do certain famous gestures or have a voice-over for a certain laugh or scream, b/c each actress has brought something to Elphie to make her who she is). :)
she doesn't have the belt voice.. if they cast mediocre vocals for wicked it will totally ruin the dynamic.. they need emotional powerful voices for the principles.. not mediocre celebrities.. she is a great singer... but more suited for a higher registered head voice part..
She would make a much better Nessarose in my opinion. She looks and acts much more like her. Elphaba needs to be played by a stronger actress. Idina maybe? :) But she is pregnant now, so I'm not sure if she'll get the part...
I love Anne Hathaway, but she will NEVER be Elphaba. The Elphie I want for the movie is Eden Espinosa, she's the entire package for the character: she looks and sounds the most like a teenage version of the original Wicked Witch, plus she plays the role with such ferocious emotion with a voice to match, its gotta be her! Idina is great, don't get me wrong, but... she's kinda plain compared to Eden.
No! She doesn't have the pipes for that role. Also, she is almost too pretty and charming for the role, not mysterious enough. If Idina doesn't play it, they need someone with the voice. Lea Michele is a way better candidate than Anne Hathaway.
Why can't the actors on the stage be in the movie? Do they need to be well known actors and actresses? I understand everyone wants either Lea Michele or Anne Hathaway to be in it but give the actors on the stage a chance to become famous.
i honestly dont think she has the voice....i love love love stephanie j block and idina....and i think it should be idina cause its basically HER role.
@Jooma17 Don't you think that saying you will rip out someone's throat for voicing their opinions is a tad bit dramatic and incredibly harsh. Everyone is entitled to say what they choose to. You are right it is complex and indeed has an amazing amount of symbolism, however I believe you need to calm down.
They won't use the OBC in the movie, they are all way too old for film, so u might want to start preparing ur self for the fact that they won't be in the movie or you are in for a major let down, and it would be a shame to let something like that ruin the movie for u...
Well, yeah, probably... But I just hate Anne Hathaway... But, anyway, let's face it, for the Broadway Wicked lovers the film will suck no matter how good it is. There's nothing like life performance...
three and in film that third missing factor is more than enough to work against them. ud be supprised at how many ppl don't know what wicked is or who idina and kristen are, those 2 would only fly (in the film) w/ their diehard fans who care more about them then they do wicked... every1 else would see 2 middle-aged women trying to look like college students on film, more ppl would would be bothered b the fact that they didn't cast to actresses the right age who can do it. in movies ur a minority
Anne Hathaway will make an AWESOME Elphaba!! She is an amazing singer!!!! She has the look!! She is great at those ugly/geeky transformations into beautiful!!!

well damn where do i sigh up lol only nessa rose?! naw they gotta start steppin up their game lol
I may have just changed my mind. Anne kind of impressed me in Dark Knight Rises. Still haven't heard her sing, so jury's still out.
I agree. anne is more of a Nessarose. And I love that you used photo shop, but the skin needed to be a tad darker
Idina Menzel and kristin chenoweth aare the only perfect roles for wicked or marcie dodd and helene yorke i saw them perform! Amazing!!!!! and can anne even sing?

Never! God, Idina is the only possible choice and only with Kristin. I could also recommend Willemijn Verkaik from German Wicked but she's not popular (ironic, huh?) enough, I guess, but really amazing!
yea i think Annaleigh Ashford(sp) is really young too...

She would make a good Elphaba, still like Idina the best tho :) great job!!
actually i'd say lea michele as elphaba and anne hathaway as nessa
ok i get that but on stage is an entirely different medium then film, and on stage a 44 y/o can convincingly play elphaba and Glinda cuz on stage they are representing the character, so it's not nearly as important that they truly look the age they are supposed to, in fact none of the actresses who have plaied it look yonger than about 28-29 and on stage that's just fine, but on film they need to be the character, look, the character, and sound the character, idina and kristen have 2 out of...
i can see it! let's hope she doesn't disappoint
Let's not do this, shall we?
yea they are, first of all i LOVE Kristen, LOVE HER! i'm an Idina fan and would def go see her in the show, i have, but on screen they absolutely can NOT pull of 18 years old... they are in college, and the reason it didn't matter for Meryl streep is cuz her character is a mom and they never really touch on her age. it's quite apparent that glinda and elphaba are college students... so thumbs down me cuz u don't like wut ur reading but the odds of any OBC in the movie are slim to none...
she looks much more like Poison Ivy than like Elphaba
watch Ella Enchanted to hear her sing.
Well okay that was interesting. I don't know what Anne Hathaway has to do with wicked. And although Idina is AMAZING I would hope that if there were to be a movie made, it would be based on the original story which is the book and not the play; in fact the two differ quite a bit. ye anne is just to sweet and timmid she could be nessa but never Elphie
Not so much. Elfaba was supposed to have sharper features. She's describes as such in the book a lot. Hathaway just doesn't strike me as Elfie.
Wait i take that back she can sing and would be good. i thought she was going to be glinda or elphaba not nessarose
I agree I think that anne hathaway should be nessarose instead of elphaba.

you made the eyes green, elphaba dosn't have green eyes, just lips and skin
i think Anne Hathaway would be the wrong choice for Elphaba, and if you have the great experience of seeing this musical on the stage, then you will understand. It is a wonderful stage production, and don't get me wrong Anne Hathaway is a fine actress and good but wrong I believe for Elphaba.

look up Anne Hathaway Ella enchanted somebody to love

@nubiantigeress I'd go Lea Michelle from glee, cause no offence to indina it's getting harder for her to pull of a Young Uni Student
No! She doesn't have the pipes for that role. Also, she is almost too pretty and charming for the role, not mysterious enough. If Idina doesn't play it, they need someone with the voice. Lea Michele is a way better candidate than Anne Hathaway.

@17DefyingGravity I know, I was like 5 when it came out, now I'm 14, so It's been quite long.
i honestly dont think she has the voice....i love love love stephanie j block and idina....and i think it should be idina cause its basically HER role.
haha!! she looks more like Poison Ivy if u ask me,...which would actually be hot...lol

please, no! i like anne hathaway and all, but she would be ALL wrong for elphaba.
huh? :P
Umm......No !!!!!!!
err
sorry, but: fail.
So fake
nobody want to see this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
