As a hobbyist leatherworker I found this video a proper goldmine. Plus, your editing and commentary is on par with Corter leather. You sir, have just earned an instant subscribe.
I love every video you make, I learn a lot and I appreciate you spending time and energy with filming, editing and creating and teaching us. Thank you so much! Sending lots of artsy leather love your way!!!
I agree, editing is time consuming. We have a hiking channel that we haven't done much of lately. I just ordered a black and a white 0.2mL of Velodon. I've been doing leather work for several years. A labor of love, not a business although I do sell some items here in the states. California actually and send things to other states as the orders come in. I subscribed today as well. Love your channel.
Love your explanation of the entire process and would like to see a thread comparison video. I searched for xian'ge vs superfine video for a while but was unsuccessful so this will definitely be filling a niche.
Also I love the comment at the end re fancy equipment. So many head scratchers (perhaps literally) in the leather tool world. Still am not convinced that an exquisite set of zipper tooth breakers works better than a set of standard issue flat end wire nippers used carefully
Thread comparison would be cool! I‘m using a waxed cotton thread now , 1 mm and so far its great! Ive used unwaxed too, but The waxed one really makes a huge difference in ease of stitching and also I don‘t seem to prick it. Also, it looks really nice once you hammer the stitches. But i have also hammered natural vegetan to hard where it left a mark on t he leather. I‘ll have to experiment with that more. Maybe using something like a metal rod to place directly onto the stitching and then hammer. Good luck with the surgery!
Great video! Thank you for explaining everything. The one thing I don't completely understand is how the leather can be so soft with the vegetable tan method.
I'd like to see a thread compare between various polyester threads. I really like the twist of Amy Roke. Seems as durable as Tiger, but looks worlds better imo. The Xian Ge is definitely one of my favorite synthetics, though in a side by side with the same size/color Meisi, the fuzzies give aeay the poly. Everyone loves Vinymo, but it always frays on me!
The moving keeper should be installed first because if you have a tapered strap , let’s say 22-18 no change you would slide it over the fat end unless you will leave it very loose which is not ideal

That's so nice of you to say!

Because of the way they tanned it. All tanneries work differently, some are very tough and some are extremely soft.
@@WillHodges Thank you for your fast answer!

Great video! You’re a natural teacher. Where did you source the leather?
Thank you! I got it directly from the tannery (tannery HAAS)
@@WillHodges Thanks for the info! I’m still learning where to source quality materials and tools. ♥️
Send me a message on IG or email
@@WillHodges Thank you! I will! ♥️
thread comparrison would be useful, as well as suppliers in the uk for your materials
I have a master list I’ve been working on with all of the suppliers I can think of, of all the types of leather I know of.
Hey Will! Excellent video as always. Where do you get your straight edge / positioning square?
The 90 degree one you can find by searching ‘engineer square’
Excellent video! I have used several watch strap patterns and haven't found one I really like. Are yours available to purchase?
Hi David! Thank you, yes they are. If you send me an email I’ll sort you out! Will.hodges91@gmail.com
Very nice video. Is the thread Xiange? I just started using it as well and love it.
It is, I love it too
what blade do you use for cutting? It always looks like it cuts so easily!!
This one is just a normal scalpel.. a few pounds/dollars and very sharp
How do you install the second keeper?
Slide it over the fat end
@@WillHodges i see, so the width of the keeper should be the same as the fat end?

That isn’t true
2,7mm pricking irons?
Indeed
@@WillHodges Just bought a pair of 2,7
@@joellundblad1312 great investment
Foam used as a padding is better than leather because it’s soft and it’s not coming through your back of your strap (lining)
Don’t happen to agree but each to their own
