Thank you! My 2012 Titan just hit 103k and i have been having a problem with a dead key from time to time and was dreading changing the starter since it is in a brutal spot to change. I'll try this fix and hope for the best. That little tip of swapping the relays is a lifesaver!
Thank you! I'm so glad I saw your video first! I was getting really worried about the impact my wallet was going to feel for my sudden no start problem. Disconnected the battery, cleaned the terminals really well and did your relay swap... fired up right away, nice and strong! Thank you thank you thank you!
I kept swapping out relays until I finally got tired of a bandaid fix to problem. I finally a new ipdm and solved it permanently. The Titan are known to have problem with the older ipdm. Now my starter needs replacing at 150,000 miles. I don't have skills or tools, but will get it done for cheaper than taking it to dealer.
Thank you, Thank you!!! My 2013 Titan has been having this intermittent issue for a long time. And after 3 mechanics and days in the shop NOBODY could figure this out!! Today was the last straw as it sat in the driveway unable to start.... I watched This Video and Success!! My mechanic is getting me a new relay and tightening the box...
This will help temporary but you have to buy same relay again from nissan if they are not selling the whole ipdm (, fuse box) ive done it and ignore it but after some time itll fail, then i got 2 from junk yard, changed one and keep one as a spare and everythig working well 👍👍👍
I have a 2009 that was having the same issues. I could usually take the positive and negative battery terminal connectors off, and touch them together for a short time to "drain the capacitors" .. as the local Nissan dealer said. I recently swapped out the IPDM with the newest black one, and then let it sit for the week (its not my daily driver), had the exact same problem when I tried to start it. The new IPDM e/r had all new fuses in it, so that can't be the issue. This has been going on since it was under warranty. Noone has been able to fix it.
If you have that issue again try replacing the fuel pump relay which is on the bottom row of relays on the IPDM. I think it's the 3rd from the left. Being a former nissan tech in Alaska that was the most common issue with no starts on those and the first thing we looked at. Most of the time that is what the problem turned out to be so much that they issued a recall for it.
Hi, Fredeick, I wonder if you can help is, We own a titan 2004, It starts and a few seconds later it turns off, we have changed the fuel pump, one filter, and another few thanks, and it does the same. I really apreciate the help, thanks
It could be a number of things. First off is the security key on when you turn the key to the on position? if so then that is your problem. if not try replacing the fuel pump relay. Cheap enough to go ahead with. If that isn't it then you have a spare cause it will go out one day. Next is check fuel pressure when turning key on. You should get somewhere in the ball park of 45 psi to 55 psi. if not then fuel pump (I know you replaced it already but I have seen them bad out of the box.) or something in line to the port. If you have pressure start it and see what the pressure is while it runs. If pressure drops off then dies probably your pump or could be something with security issue or ECM (Unlikely but possible.) Other than that I would have to see it for myself. I suck at diagnosing other than in person.
Do you have a email where I can talk to you, Im in Arizona, Im not sure where are you, but we already take it to the shop buy they said they dont find anything. and they tols us to take to Nissan dealer, but we think they are expensive, Im so glad you answer me. Could I have your email to talk to you, please and thanks very much.
I had 2005 Armada doing the same thing, I replaced the starter and work fine for several months with no problem. Replacing the starter is not an easy job because it is located in between the top of the engine and the intake manifold. Good luck!
About to try this now we are stuck around the corner from our house but luckily across the street from auto zone wish me luck bought this truck yesterday 😪
Before you changed the relay.... what was the symptom you were getting? Would it start randomly or not at all? I have a 2005 and it starts most of the time. About 2-3 times a week it will not start on the first try.... but will then start normally on 2nd or 3rd try.
Hello, I don't get this at all because to me you just swapped out the starter relay with the ignition relay. I have swapped out my ECM relay with my Foglamp relay and both of those relays are at the bottom of the IPDM as you look at it. ECM would be the third one from right and the fog is the first one from right as you look at the ipdm as shown in your video. I own a 2005 titan LE but again I don't understand how your fog lamp relay is at the top row? You have the right part number for the relay but thats for the ecm relay not the starter? The original starter relay has a number 6 on it and "acm33221 M28". What model of armada do you have and can you tell me what the 4 relays at the bottom of the ipdm do for your model? I love the fix but something had to be different on your vehicle.
Parts guy also said that those white ipdm boards are shity and the replacement is a black one which is amazing in comparison to the old white ones. But again it would cost $500 for my particular Titan
Another thing to do if it has issues with starting, replace the key. The chip inside gets damaged if you drop it too often. If the plastic key breaks, that's a sure sign of damage. A locksmith through AAAnshould charge $120 for one key or $180 for two. If you've tried the fusible links, the ground wire, and the filter/pump and it still isn't starting GET A NEW KEY
I have an 08 Nissan Titan pro 4x. I just replaced the starter. It turns on, but sometimes it has trouble. Will keep cranking but won’t turn on. I’ll have to keep trying for a few mins and eventually it turns over. I’m was suggested by a friend to replace the fuel pump.
Hello n thanks for the informative and helpful video. I have a 2005 Titan and for the last 6 mos to a year I've had an occurrence where once in a great while I will turn the key to start my truck n I either get nothing or I get a very low pitched and rather quiet Ding sound.... However on the 2nd try my truck starts right up. What was once only occurring once in a while is starting to happen more and more often. Is it possible that I may possibly have the same easy fix solution that you had with your truck??
I wish I had seen this video earlier... took it into the shop after trying to figure out for a couple hours why it wouldn't start. The shop ended up changing the whole board for $290 plus labor.
In my situation, I needed to change out the starter because it was bad, replaced the starter and no more starting issues. Also, the IPDM on the truck is causing issues as well. The truck starts but while driving, every once in a while, not all the time, the engine wants to die/ feels like the fuel pump is not keeping up but after reading and looking up this issue on the internet/ speaking to a friend of mine who is a Nisan Technician, he stated it might be my IPDM acting up and NOT the fuel pump.
Amuro I replaced my IPMD about 5 to 6 years ago. I was having the same issues you are currently having in regards to driving and then having absolutely no power at any given time. Did some research On club Armada and it pointed me to the IP empty. I swapped it out myself for $175 for a new IPMD. I haven’t had an issue since
Jamey Mendez I think I’m gonna go with the IPDM, I also replaced the ECM relay because of a recall I found, cost $3 bucks but that didn’t do shit. The truck is drivable but if you gas it hard, it acts up. If you go easy on the gas peddle it drives okay. Just strange but I’ll be ordering a new IPDM module soon. Thanks!
Well the relay you replaced is not the one you think it is. The one that goes out causing the issue is the ECM relay and it’s the second one not the first one and this was only on the models with the white IPDM the later ones had the black IPDM. There was a recall on those at one time. Also per service manual the relays were not supposed to be removed and replaced as they said damage can happen to the terminals but it didn’t stop them from being replaced under the warranty for the recall. That keeps their parts cost down
Currently experiencing similar symptoms on a 2004 titan. I've replaced some relays but continue to have problems starting. I checked your starter replacement video as well but im wondering what made you decide to replace the starter? Sometimes if I fiddle with the steering wheel or jiggle some wires under the steering wheel I can get it to start. I'm thinking it may be a wiring issue as I've already resoldered some cold solder joints in the odometer panel but I guess it could also be the starter. Just wondering if there's any thing I can do to verify my starter needs replacing. Thanks for your videos, very helpful!
I began to have some more starting issues several months after I changed the relay so I figured it was the starter selenoid and I was right. No more starting issues.
Well sir, I'm gonna try that my titan 04, has just started the issue of not cranking over here and there especially in cold weather we just had here eastern US. I hope this corrects the problem. I really if I don't have too change the starter. But if I do I must.
that happened to me today. My truck suddenly stopped in the middle of me driving it. Then it started again after a few attempts and all my dash lights started flickering. The forums for Titans helped me solve my problem. I went to Nissan and bought the ECM relay replacement fuse. In my case it was colored green and second from left relay. Come to find out that a while back there was a recall and ECM relay is the common culprit of said symptoms. Took me 5 minutes to install and solved my problem at least for now.
Hey where do you find that specific part?? I can’t find it on the autozone website or any auto store near me , is this something that needs to be ordered like on Nissan website or any other car part website
I did exactly shown on video and my truck started up with no problems. I should have a closer look. Because i swapped the two and truck started and fog lights still work.. thanks
acm33201 is what i pulled in that first slot on my 06 titan . i went to nissan dealer they gave me a cw29e relay saying that's what I needed. I replaced it, at first it took a,while to start like it didn't register. But ever since then it has started perfect. So idk so far so good
So think I have this problem. I have a 2010 Armada. Is fuse compartment same spot in my car? Car won’t start and battery is reflecting as having plenty of charge. After a few turns it starts finally. Which fuse part # do I get? And replace fuse #4 from left to right?
Swapping the 'front fog light relay' for the 'ECU relay' is a TEMPORARY FIX as the 'front fog light relay' is lacking a protective diode found in the ECU relay (Nissan p/n 284B7-CW29E). I did the swap in my 2005 Titan tonight which wouldn't start and it started immediately after the swap, confirming the ECU relay is at issue. (Interestingly, the front fog lights did work with the failed/weak ECU relay). I will be buying a Nissan OEM ECU relay and inserting it into the ECU relay receptacle and returning the 'Front fog light relay' back to its original position. Many recommend carrying a spare ECU relay. It looks like Nissan has authorized a recall on the ECU relay but it may be more of a hassle having a dealer change the relay and potentially damaging the expensive IPDM unit if the mechanic rough houses the change-out of relays.
My '08 Titan has a black relay box with less relay slots. I've seen a diagram that pints to the ignition relay but I don't know which one is the starter relay. 🙁
If this doesn’t fix your problem replace the $20 fuse block attached to your battery and if that doesn’t fix it replace the $22 ignition switch under you dash. If none of those fix your problem you need a new starter.
Thank you. Hope it works for my 2012 because it’s over $700 to replace the starter. It’s also hard to find honest mechanics that will address the true issues.
Thank you for this video... My relay on my 2004 Titan at the spot you have your starter relay is part #ACM33201 M12 (it doesn't match yours). Is my relay the same relay you have there? Or is my fuse in the location you are saying to change for the starter actually for something else?
no disrespect but you're changing the starter relay and the ignition out the ECM and the fog lights are on the bottom row second one over is ECM and the last one fog lights
You Sir are correct. I screwed up. Thanks. I have annotated the video to reveal the correct relay, indeed is the 4th one over, on the bottom, from the left (front fog lamp relay). Thanks again.
@@LegacyBridge If you go to the parts department at your Nissan dealership request Control Unit -1P 284B7-CW29E. That is the relay you will need to correct this problem. You will have to go through three or four engine start engine stop sequences before the problem goes completely away, but this is the relay you need.
Sir, I have Armada 2012 and I have the same problem, but the relay box is different from yours and I couldn’t know which relay to replace if you can help please
I did this to rectify a stalling issue. I first tried the auto active test to determine an ipdm issue, and the test wouldn't run. After swapping the relays, the test ran through. My issue is that I'm in the boonies, and the part store is an hour away. How safe is it to drive that far with the fog relay in the ecm slot?
My Nissan Titan starts most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t crank until a few attempts. Auto shop checked battery, starter and alternator and they were all fine. They couldn’t find the issue. I wonder is this it????
Mine is intermittent, almost like a low battery, or sometime nothing, no click, no gauges, nothing. Battery is new. I thought maybe the shifter cable was not completely engaged and prevent start, just not sure. Any suggestions?
Look at your battery terminals/cables/connections. I've been stung with a bad ground connection going from the battery to the engine block/frame before.
All my lights, radio, windows are functional battery is solid. I turn key and it doesn't even click. Thought it was the starter so I replaced it and that wasn't the issue. 2014 Nissan Titan. Please help
Worked but I swapped 1st with 3rd relay. 2005 titan diagram said 1st is starter and 3rd "isn't used". From the left and top row. The row with 5 relays.
Could this be what's wrong on my 2006 Titan if every once in awhile I turn the key and just get one click sometimes at the same time I can turn it back and forth and it will start sometimes it'll start first crank but most of the time I just get one click thank you
Mine acts like it has a dead battery sporadicly and then eventually starts after trying it a few times. Is this the same issue you were having? Thought my starter might be going bad
@homesteadprepper I have a 2012 titan with 68000 miles on it. Bought it a few days ago... it periodically cranks but won't start.. leave it for a bit, and it'll fire right up. Dealer can't figure it out.
Hey I have a 05 armada se off road and it cranks but wont start I replaced the ipdm and the crankshaft sensor still nothing just the same crank no start could it be the camshaft sensor that could the cause of the no start
do you have a rust problem on your truck. Today i saw a Nissan NV2500 high top with less than 5 years usage but with a lot of rust on the front of the top. No effort was done to hide this, perhaps the owner was wanting to do negative publicity. With all the known problems for the Titan engine, if you add the choice to buy it again, would you buy it again or buy something else one of your friend was very happy with
Well, after 11 years the paint has started to wear off of my truck. I intend to paint it. I have not had any of the "known" problems with my 5.6 engine. Back in '05 I asked a local mechanic what was the best truck to buy and he replied "Ford, Chevy and Dodge all have their inherent problems". He never mentioned brand x, y or z. So to answer your question is "Yes" I would buy Nissan again. If I were you, I would go to a dealership and talk to one of the mechanics (not the manager) and ask what kinds of repairs/cost he sees on said vehicle(s)to get an idea of what you are looking at.
mine does it once in a while but itll do it once I'll turn it to off position and then it starts. makes a kind of ping sound. is this what yours would do?
Thanks so much for posting vid! seems alot of ppl hv this problem. . .Regarding your reply to @Lane Davis, Is This video corrected now? I don't see any notes about correct location of relays.. thanks again

According to the diagram that I have, you just replaced the starter relay with the ignition relay. The fog lamp relay is bottom right.
Is there a link to Amazon or Ebay to get the right relay?
Before you changed the relay.... what was the symptom you were getting? Would it start randomly or not at all?

Thank you Sir!you save alot of money!😀
Hello,
I don't get this at all because to me you just swapped out the starter relay with the ignition relay.
All the IPDM diagrams I have found online agree with your statement. Did swapping the ECM/FogLamp relays work for you?
He has a Titan, not Armada
Wow, thx! We were about to just replace the alternator assuming that’s the problem but I’ll try this first!

acm33201 is what i pulled in that first slot on my 06 titan . i went to nissan dealer they gave me a cw29e relay saying that's what I needed. I replaced it, at first it took a,while to start like it didn't register. But ever since then it has started perfect. So idk so far so good
Im still having problems wer the relays go and numbers i took them of now i dnt know witch one goes where can any one help me please
So think I have this problem. I have a 2010 Armada. Is fuse compartment same spot in my car? Car won’t start and battery is reflecting as having plenty of charge. After a few turns it starts finally. Which fuse part # do I get? And replace fuse #4 from left to right?
I'm not sure about the positioning of the relay in a 2010. It could also be the selenoid on your starter. th-cam.com/video/3_ZzIbcNRBM/w-d-xo.html
Thanks a million sir my respects you save me some money 💴
Thank you for the part number
My '08 Titan has a black relay box with less relay slots. I've seen a diagram that pints to the ignition relay but I don't know which one is the starter relay. 🙁
Огромное спасибо!!! очень выручило видео!!!!
Do you have the relay number that controls steering wheel/drivers seat/dome lights and lift gate ? 2010 QX56
What was the part number for that relay? Thanks for the video
Cw29e
The board where sensor plugs into if its white it's the updated version from nissan if its black it's the old version they had problems with
Do I have to lift the idpm to get to the ecu relay at the bottom.
Hes pointing to the wrong relays. They are at the bottom on that panel. Hes pointing to the starter and ignition relay.
no disrespect but you're changing the starter relay and the ignition out the ECM and the fog lights are on the bottom row second one over is ECM and the last one fog lights
You Sir are correct. I screwed up. Thanks.
I have annotated the video to reveal the correct relay, indeed is the 4th one over, on the bottom, from the left (front fog lamp relay).
Thanks again.
Thanks Lane!
So is the starter the relay on the left which is being replaced? The diagram on my relay box doesn't name them.
What does the start sound like when the relay has gone bad already? Does the engine keep turning without igniting?
@@LegacyBridge If you go to the parts department at your Nissan dealership request Control Unit -1P 284B7-CW29E. That is the relay you will need to correct this problem. You will have to go through three or four engine start engine stop sequences before the problem goes completely away, but this is the relay you need.
Sir,
I have Armada 2012 and I have the same problem, but the relay box is different from yours and I couldn’t know which relay to replace if you can help please
Did you find solution i have the same year and problem
If you can send me a link or store that sell the exact one you have that would be great… I can’t seem to find any online :(
I bought mine at the Nissan dealer.
What relay is this so I can buy a new one? I can’t find what it is
Do you have a part number I tried to find it but I can't find it
Is it the same on a qx56 boxes are the same going to try in the am
Good job, good info. Now blow off the HVAC air intake screen to avoid breathing in allergens...leaves a PLENTY.
is your truck just clicking like you can hear the solenoid engaging but the starter not engaging before you replaced the relay?
No clicking. Just nothing.
What you just described sounds like another problem.
Yeah, mine is doing that clicking stuff, and nothing seems to fix it.
Thank you so much ! Going to give it a try !
I have a 2008 armada and the diagram on the box doesn’t jive with the info. I’m trying to diagnose an intermittent start issue.
Where’s the diagram that tells you what those relays are? I can’t find it anywhere
The black box lid has the diagram on the inside.
what were your symptoms? starter seems strong but isn't engaging when key is turned. works on 2nd or red try usually.
Symptom was nothing happened when key was turned.
Just recently, same as you described and I replace the starter.
been intermittent. usually acts up on cold days. trying my other key. only seems to happen at cold start. we will see.
I myself would chance it.
What's the name of the relay ?
My Nissan Titan starts most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t crank until a few attempts. Auto shop checked battery, starter and alternator and they were all fine. They couldn’t find the issue. I wonder is this it????
What relay is it though?
Mine is intermittent, almost like a low battery, or sometime nothing, no click, no gauges, nothing. Battery is new. I thought maybe the shifter cable was not completely engaged and prevent start, just not sure. Any suggestions?
Look at your battery terminals/cables/connections. I've been stung with a bad ground connection going from the battery to the engine block/frame before.
How long did this relay replacement fix work before you had to replace the actual starter?
About 7-8 months later I started having issues with the selenoid on the starter not engaging everytime.
th-cam.com/video/3_ZzIbcNRBM/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the heads up but how did you get the cover off?
All my lights, radio, windows are functional battery is solid. I turn key and it doesn't even click. Thought it was the starter so I replaced it and that wasn't the issue. 2014 Nissan Titan. Please help
Worked but I swapped 1st with 3rd relay. 2005 titan diagram said 1st is starter and 3rd "isn't used". From the left and top row. The row with 5 relays.
Could this be what's wrong on my 2006 Titan if every once in awhile I turn the key and just get one click sometimes at the same time I can turn it back and forth and it will start sometimes it'll start first crank but most of the time I just get one click thank you
It could be, or it could be the stater selenoid or the starter itself.
Thank you so much good bless you 🙏🏼
Mine is an acm33201 m08. Can I use the cw29e ?
Mine acts like it has a dead battery sporadicly and then eventually starts after trying it a few times. Is this the same issue you were having? Thought my starter might be going bad
Yes, like it was totally dead. I did end up changing the selenoid when it started to go sometime after I made this vid.
@homesteadprepper I have a 2012 titan with 68000 miles on it. Bought it a few days ago... it periodically cranks but won't start.. leave it for a bit, and it'll fire right up. Dealer can't figure it out.
My Meen damn right change the relay or the whole module save me lot money and time my Meen thank you life saver god bless
Thankss man u save us me and my dad
What year is your truck?
Can the relays be in a different order because mine didn’t work I have an 2008 Nissan Armada
Hey I have a 05 armada se off road and it cranks but wont start I replaced the ipdm and the crankshaft sensor still nothing just the same crank no start could it be the camshaft sensor that could the cause of the no start
You figure it out
do you have a rust problem on your truck.
Is this the starter relay
link to a new relay??
I really wish you had try to start the truck before replacing the relay just to hear what kind of noise it was making, if any.
When the relay went out, there was no noise, just silence when I tried to start it.
Help, clean the air vent in the end of the hood!
is this the same as an nissan titan 2006 fuel pump relay?
mine does it once in a while but itll do it once I'll turn it to off position and then it starts. makes a kind of ping sound. is this what yours would do?
Yes.
What'd you do to end up finally fixing the issue?
Happy it worked for everyone BUT me 😒
I have a 2011, where is the ac condenser relay?
Thanks so much for posting vid! seems alot of ppl hv this problem. . .Regarding your reply to @Lane Davis, Is This video corrected now? I don't see any notes about correct location of relays.. thanks again
It is annotated in the vid.
I see no annotation in the video. Unless it doesnt show up on a smartphone. The video shows the wrong relays when I watch it.
