It’s funny that Lego fans would take issue with the look of the car mode while Transformers fans wouldn’t. That’s pretty standard for Transformers toys. They have to have hinges and panels in order to function. That’s normal.
I honestly think the car mode looks pretty cool. Especially given its size and all the stuff going on inside, this looks amazing. Not to mention a little nostalgic to my old smaller, cheaper Lego sets that didn't have to live up to the hyper polished and detailed premium sets of today that get nitpicked for every stud that isn't aligned perfectly (but I also adore for the record)
@@AVdE10000 well I'm a car guy, so I'm not impressed. BUT hey, obviously people interested in this set like the transformer aspect of it, and for that I guess the car is decent enough.

Starscream would be really really hard to design. There really is no perfect g1 Starscream mold made by Hasbro, I doubt lego could pull it off. Soundwave seems totally doable.
Lego tries to say away from anything “war” related. A fighter jet or a tank (never making a gun) would be tough. Agreed with Soundwave though, that be sick.
@@TheFirstCurse1 The problem is that plenty of the Decepticons transform into military vehicles, and quite obviously out of respect for Ole Kirk Christiansen's wishes, The LEGO Group doesn't intend on making sets based on modern day military vehicles. Bumblebee comes with a giant gun. 95% of Star Wars sets come with guns, and a lot of the ships have giant guns on them. Seems like a weird place to draw the line.
Deceptacons they could do: Soundwave with his little cassette tape drones. Or go for the big multi robot assemblies like the Constructacons and Devastator!

might have to get this one because it transforms in a way that reminds me almost exactly of the way that a bumblebee figure I had when I was younger transformed.
I like how most of the stickers aren't really necessary for the final model. Overall the look/proportions are fairly decent, and car mode is a nice approximation of his non licensed Beetle vehicle mode. Really looking forward to picking this one up alongside the Optimus Prime this Summer.
I never got the news of this model, so when I saw it while passing through brisbane airport a couple weeks ago, I was quite suprised. And very tempted to buy it duty free.
To be fair, those panels in the car mode is far cleaner than the likes of an actual hasbro transformers figure because it is much smaller and not much of an eye sort
I don't want to say that the set's designer, Samuel Liltorp Johnson, did a bad job here, but I do feel like hachiroku24 did a better job at a LEGO G1 Bumblebee model compared to his work, as hachi's version doesn't require any "parts-forming," and I kind of prefer the faceless battle mask instead of the official set's printed face. I think it may also have to with this set coming off the heels of the LEGO Optimus Prime set, which was designed by the former Hasbro toy designer Joe Kyde, and he managed to build a LEGO Optimus Prime model that doesn't require "parts-forming."
Gotta be honest. I think Bee In car mode looks extremely clean. Designer knocked this one out of the park. The price is a nice surprise too. I was expecting over $100 for this one.
Great review. I have the Lego Optimus Prime and love it, although it's a bit clunky looking all-around. But picked up this Lego Bumblebee yesterday at the mall, Lego Store had a few of them in stock. $89 is a good price point. Wifey assembled it last night and when I woke up this morning it was in vehicle mode. Impressive for sure. It took me about 15 minutes to transform it into bot mode-pieces and parts are very delicate so be careful, especially his lower legs and feet. I will keep him in bot mode for display and probably will never transform it back to vehicle mode again. I can't wait for any future Transformers sets.
I don't understand why the rear of the car isn't a continuous curve and instead makes two curves with a dip. It completely stops it looking like a beetle and just looks like a sedan. One of the prototypes looked almost perfect in car mode. Honestly, I kinda want to see this in person before I'd buy it.

Optimus Prime being too small in truck mode is a common occurrence for his toys, because he usually shrinks when he transforms (part of the reason why Michael Bay chose a long nose truck for him). So if the toys have a big truck mode, than he'd be too big in robot mode.
