2 Tips for Thornlash: 1. Hold deploy and move your reticle to create two connected walls at once. Makes it harder for enemies to sidestep out of its effective range, or you can deploy your diagonal ramp faster. 2. As a trap, place walls flat above your side of low(5m) doorways and chokes enemies have to feed through. The walls can be very hard to see before going underneath them and will lash downward at enemies.
I fell in love with Groot's gameplay style in the beta, after I understood him, and now I've dumped five hours into Groot alone. I think he is a straight up top three tank in the game with his versatility. I might main him over Venom, might.
@@ItzPixel eh i wouldnt say hes strictly better, they serve different roles and venom is more so a secondary tank because he sacrifices protecting his team for some self sustain/disrupting the enemy backline to provide opportunities for the other dps, think of him like a tank/dps brid groot excels at crowd control and also providing circumstances for ur team to push or secure kills, he cant sustain himself aside from some specific mechanics with his walls so he needs healing constantly for sure though id rather go groot if you had to choose one tank between the two, venom solo tank really feels bad
Started to play groot today simply because I main heal and it would be nice to switch off regarding team comp. With that being said, he's highly disruptive and I love how he sections off the team from healing. He's perfect. He's a team tank.
Been playing groot lately had a game earlier where I just crushed the entire team they literally couldn’t do anything his ceiling is so high compared to other tanks imo Also putting your small walls to the sides and not directly in front still does dps and doesn’t block off your own healers
Groot and Moon Knight is easily my favorite combo in this game. Being able to force people closer together with the walls allows your MK to get some crazy bounces off. Not to mention Groot's ult pairing perfectly with every part of MK's kit
What i like to do is to place thornwalls in the... walls of the map lmao, so that they kinda fusew with the walls, so that if i or my allies hit them the walls can hurt them with the awakened passive, since you can place up to 3 you can maek a jungle-like danger zone thats really fun because enemies are gonna be scared of the walls lmao
I feel as if you are underestimating sporebomb a bit. Sporebomb can hit targets twice, which means if you throw a sporebomb at someone who is near your walls, they will trigger twice. I often place down a wall behind someone and at the same time I throw a sporebomb, I m1 or press V and the lower health targets usually die instantly. Then not to mention if you hit more than one person with sporebomb near a ironwall, that's just free hits to give you shields.
idk if anyone has said this(so many comments), but ive had about 11 hours with groot, and i put walls behind people to block off their healers. Also, another thing i have learned is that if you stagger your thornlash walls it is more effective then just stacking them next to each other
I always set up walls well before, most of the time i make the ironwood wall un-seeable so it doesnt get destroyed, its really good like that on defence as ill get that bonus health and will be healed, will basically be unkillable. Throw in a jeff on your back alongside that and you can survive 2 ults (dependant on what ones)
Loving groot but I just wish those damaging walls had a little more range I feel like I never get value out of them because they just break so fast and they have to be so close to them
As a Groot main these are the benefits of using the walls: - extra damage / HP regen ahen hitting enemy’s close to the walls - box in enemy’s and/or restrict their options or escaperoute - Stop enemy’s from passing through doors or tight spaces for a short duration, winning time for your team to set up attack/defence/flank - blocking lines of sight for enemies, helping you take less damage in fights with close enemy’s - getting up to high area’s you cannot jump up normally. - save teammates that are escaping on low health and need healing by building walls between the attacking enemies and ur teammate. Giving them a chance to join the fight again. - building walls in for example an objective area also restricts enemy healers to heal their tanks or other enemies in the objective point as the walls might block their healing abilities to be used - Create chaos in a fight that you are losing. If you randomly build 3 walls like a maze and run around them randomly the enemy loses track sometimes. This makes them abort or gives your team time to assist you. Most powerfull Tank when playing with a team that is working together and has a nice team balance. 1 dedicated healer is essential for Groot as he has no mobility and it takes ages to get back into the fight after dying.
I was never big into the tank role at all in OW but I feel obligated to learn some tank in Rivals. Even if I only learn how to play a couple, just enough to be functional
Good tips, I ignored all of these and played Groot like it's fortnite, singling out enemies in 1v1/1v2 boxfights. No more backline threats and certain points are just auto-win this way with a half decent healer
if played right groot is one of if not the best tank. i hit diamond 2 ealrier and i have 19 hours on groot learn to use his ult when others have their ults for example moon knight his radius isnt that large so groots ult helps so much with that
you guys know that having a good game doesn't make a character good right? If I go 35-1 as groot it's not cause groot is good. but because we team diffed them to oblivion. they prob were getting ganked in backline or the enemy dps were eating crayons. Groot and peni have the same weakness.. shoot the tank and they cant play the game proper.

I agree on the shorter cool down for the bomb. Even if groot has to complete an objective to shorten the cooldown, like awakening walls. Having a combo with someone like a squirrel girl for a shorter bomb cooldown would be nice.
As a league of legends player, Groot HEAVILY reminds me of Zyra, but better. His walls can either deal damage to nearby foes, or grant him bonus health (Zyra 's plants do damage or slow depending on the ability used). He has the potential to be one of the best tanks in the game, seeing as he can make his own cover for his team, and even potentially block off an entrance to a good push from the enemy team. Groot is going to be a HUGE threat soon.
spore bomb should NOT be on a shorter cooldown, it's already stupid good. if you thornlash behind a 250, bomb in the right spot and primary fire, they are dead. simple as. I rarely ever use it as a long range poke because it's just so damn good with the walls.
I thought the punisher was immune to cc in his ult? Im pretty sure he just walked in to ur ult and nothing happened to him. Good guide. A situational combo I like to do when someone is in front of my thorn walls is to vine strike> bomb>vine strike it can pretty much kill anyone 250 hp characters if they get no heals.
