He's kind of the "combat medic" at ring-side ... they'll stop a fight if you're gushing blood (impairing your vision or ability to defend yourself in the ring) ... so the "cut-man" can treat those injuries, anti-coagulant creams, gels (swabs of vasaline or other materials), frozen pieces of metal to reduce swelling, etc)

Sylvester Stallone proves that when given the right material he can act with the best of them. His turn as Rocky Balboa is not only the best performance of that year, but it is also one of the best performances in the history of the silver screen.

wdym "given"? he wrote this from the heart. Its the reason why he never sold the script if he is not allowed to play as Rocky, its basically a reflection of his life.
Rocky's "I just want to go the distance." is Sylvester's "If Im gonna fail, I atleast want to fail on my own terms."

All the red white and blue at the fight, including Adrian's outfit and Creed's trunks and costume is because 1/1/1976 (the day of the fight) was the first day of our bicentennial as a country (Apollo calls it "our nation's biggest birthday" in an earlier scene). Yearlong celebration of 1776-1976.

    • @thegorn68

That is correct. I was only 7 years old for most of 1976 but have memories of flags everywhere all year long in celebration. Especially on 4th of July. Back when young people were taught to be proud and appreciate our country instead of how to hate it.

Cut man - treats cuts and swelling so fighter can make it though a fight - no one now would actually cut a swelling to release blood. They use what is basically cue-tips with Adrenalin to control bleeding, and will also use a cold flat iron to reduce swellings.

    • @zedwpd
      @zedwpd 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

A boxing cut man is like a wizard of wound management. They use a few different techniques to control bleeding during a fight:
Epinephrine (adrenaline): This constricts blood vessels and slows bleeding.
Aluminum chloride: A chemical that promotes clotting.
Cotton swabs and gauze: To absorb blood and apply pressure to the wound.
Vaseline: To prevent the wound from reopening when the fighter is punched again.

A cutman, is someone that specializes in CLOSING cuts. They are there to try to get the cut to close so the fighter can continue to fight. What they did to Rockys eye was something that some fighters did back then but that was not the norm.

Stallone did such a great job with this movie. They were smart when it came to mistakes in the movie. They pointed out issues they didn’t have the budget to fix. The poster of Rocky hanging from the ceiling had the wrong shorts and they couldn’t fix it so Stallone decided to have Rocky bring up the problem and then with his boxing robe that Paulie got the ad on was too big for Rocky so they had Rocky bring it up. The series is fun to watch all the way to Creed. After the first Creed you could tell that it was no longer a Rocky movie.

    • @mattlefebvre123

and then that scene with him in the bed saying how all he wanted to do was go the distance almost wasn't even shot. The director was going to cut it because of budget worries. Stallone was adamant that it had to stay in the the director gave him 1 single shot at it. So that scene is done as a 1 take.

A cut man tends to a boxer's facial cuts in between rounds during a boxing match. Typically, the cut man needs to quickly stop any bleeding, as the referee may use their discretion to end the match if a boxer gets cut and is bleeding too much.

The short guy at 8:43-8:53 that talks to Rocky is the person who Stallone had sold his dog Butkus to in real life because Stallone was so poor he needed money for food. When Stallone finally sold his Rocky script and had money he wanted his dog back but the guy said no. The only way Stallone would get his dog back would be if he put the guy in the movie, which Stallone did.

More than a sports drama and all about the heart.
What it really means to go the distance.
The highest grossing film of 1976.
Winner of 3 Academy Awards (Best Editing, Best Director and Best Picture).
Stallone was nominated twice, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor in a leading role.
The budget was $1 million and the salary was not in the millions for any of the castmembers.
Other than playing the character, he actually wrote the fight between Rocky vs. Apollo and
    was credited as 'Boxing Chorographer'.
Stallone of Hell's Kitchen, N.Y. was an underdog in the film industry.
Pre-Rocky; he had roles in other films, theatre and television.
Worked so hard to write and create a story with characters close to his heart.
Just like his Rocky, so much to prove to the industry.
Btw, Stallone is Italian for Stallion, thus 'The Italian Stallion'.
If your watching the sequels, get ready for quite the journey.
RIP to Burt Young as Paulie.
    Just learned he passed away.

I’m convinced that Bill Conti was a close second to Jerry Goldsmith who won the Oscar for Best Score for The Omen. Burgess Meredith should’ve won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor! Rocky went the distance and as result became a pop culture icon and has been ever since. Even to this day, the Rocky franchise is in my opinion the most consistent aside from Lethal Weapon since all of those movies have something of value especially within storytelling, humor, and overall entertainment. #1976 #Rocky #SylvesterStallone #TaliaShire #BurgessMeredith #CarlWeathers #BurtYoung #TonyBurton #JoeSpinell #FrankStallone #BillConti #JohnAvildsen 🥊🎥🎬🏆👏🏻

The little franchise that could. Barely any budget, most of it filmed guerrilla style, Weathers and Stallone actually laying into each other (ironically they got the opposing characters' injuries), and yet it was still an amazing character story hidden within a boxing tale.
And for all the underdog showmanship, the story is about the person more than the fight, the fight is simply a vehicle for Rocky to prove that he's more than just a bum, that he has worth, and his relationship with Adrian is very wholesome as his support, in spite of Paulie's problematic nature and selfishness encroaching on the story.
Also the banners with the wrong shorts for Rocky was an actual error they had to work into the story.

yep Chuck went 15 rounds with Ali. He was paid 100k and Ali made 1.5 million. He had problems after his boxing career with drugs and prison but eventually straightened out. Other parts of the Rocky movies were based off things that Wepner did. Sadly Sly didn't acknowledge his idea for Rocky based on Wepner even though he did. A lawsuit by Wepner settled that argument.

The actors the studio wanted to play Rocky included Robert Redford, Ryan O'Neal, Burt Reynolds, or James Caan. But Stallone's agents insisted that Stallone was cast as Rocky.

Another interesting boxing movie you should check out is "Chuck" (2016) with Liev Schreiber playing the man who boxed against Muhammad Ali and inspired Stallone to write Rocky.

Sylvester Stallone was paid a small salary but given a percentage of the revenues... And He made over $5 Million on this Film... And Bill Conti was a struggling Film Composer until "Rocky" and He said that before "Rocky" He had "to go looking for work", but afterwards, "work looked for Him"...

To get Butkus back, Stallone wouldn't pay $3,000, so the guy said "Then put me in the movie", so he did!!!! (Graham Norton show)
