- The speaker will provide overview for parents in transracial adoptions specifically geared towards African American children and providing culturally relevant information (i.e, haircare, skincare, cultural history, traditions). Anything that would be helpful for those parents that are wanting to ensure their child is connected to their cultural heritage.

Speaker:
Darnetta is a Dallas transplant and has lived here for nearly 20 years. She is from a military family and did a lot of traveling in her childhood. Darnetta has 2 brothers and a sister. And attributes her love for traveling to the amazing experiences she had as a child growing up in countries all over the world. Those experiences taught her a lot about adaptability and the importance of family. After 18 years in retail leadership and training, Darnetta transitioned into non-profit work and has spent the last 6 years as an Admissions Director. New to St. Philips School and Community Center, she works with an array of different families and genuinely enjoys spending her days helping parents make important educational decisions for their children. Her career shift was born out of her desire to be living a more purposeful life and she sees how God opened many doors to allow for that to happen. Her time in education and her own personal parenting journey has opened her eyes to the importance of mental health and wellness and has led her to complete a master's degree in Mental Health and Wellness with an Emphasis on Family Dynamics and to pursue her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a focus in Behavioral Health. She is especially passionate about affecting the conversations around mental health in communities of color. As an African American, these conversations were not really had in her home and she would like to be a part of normalizing mental health and wellness conversations in minority families. Darnetta Forteau lives in Dallas, TX with her husband of 17 years and their two little girls. They love to travel and are big fans of Korean culture.
