I have always lived by this rule (without knowing it was actually a thing other than just something I did)...My Grandfather taught me to fish 40 years ago, and he taught me a lot, but one thing he did that would make me crazy is pound the same spot FOR HOURS even when getting no bites. I don't put a timer on it, but if I am not getting bites in 10-20 minutes of steady casting, it is time to move on.
I used to catch a fish in a spot then move on because I thought that the bass I caught fought and scared off the other bass but I didn't know a bunch when I was a kid but now I throw right back to the same area!
Good info! As on a kayak, i play the current. I'll paddle up against the current then float down into a cove or point while casting to cover more water. At East Harbor, paddle to the middle into the weed fields then drift to the points or lily pads while regular boats worked the bank. I caught bass in the under water game trails 😂. Sorry I missed you at the Columbus Expo 2023, I make sure I'll be in 2024
People can say negative things but I’ve always learned take the good things from everyone that works for you and put that in your pocket to perfect yourself. I watch this guys videos all the time and have learned a lot from him. My father in law finally lets me fish tournaments with him sometimes after 3 years😂🤣 THANKS BASS FISHING HQ!!
The problem is I’m stuck bank fishing a small, highly pressured lake that really only has a handful of access points so moving on means giving up the only sure spot you got.
Dude I fish a city lake. 11 acres….I caught a 7 this morning. And always land a good fish when nobody else is catching jack shit……I cast in a fan motion….and man does it catch way more from the bank if you start casting closer to you and work outwards. I keep it moving
@@dankjankings7339 yeah I was just talking about moving and giving up your spot when there might not be another one on the whole lake. The lake I’m fishing is only 3.5 acres but it’s technically a lake and not a pond because it’s actually really deep (60+ft). I still catch some really nice fish but there used to be double digit bass in this little lake before an algae bloom caused a major die off. It’s recovering slowly though.
@@DoctorSess I never sit in one place bank fishing anywhere and at a super ridiculous ass pressured ass place like this one….. as long as I don’t cross someone’s line they can kiss the fat part of my ass. I apologize I forgot not everyone fishes only artificial moving baits.
I absolutely love your channel. I was hoping maybe 1 day. You can make a video boat fishing on lakes. I just recently got a small bass boat. And I still seem to keep fishing the banks. It's where I feel comfortable. I'm not really sure how to fish. The deeper part in awakes. I think a video like that would be great

All your content is awesome! Just wish more fishing tubers would focus on techniques that don't rely on having a boat that does 20;30;50;60;etc. MPH to get to places. Most people don't have that, and a ton have no gas motor at all. So, how to find fish within a certain distance from a launch pint would be totally awesome!
That situation isn't complex enough for most TH-camrs to need to focus on. One video pretty much tells you all you need to know. If you don't have the means to travel then it gets really simple. Go slow and pick apart the area you're in. Instead of changing locations when you aren't successful then you change baits and target different parts of the water column. First target near the shoreline, then move a little further out, then be sure you've fished bottom structure, mid water column and up to the top. Use slow baits and use reaction baits. Try multiple colors and profiles. If you've done all that you've pretty much covered everything you can in that area. It's fairly straightforward. Being in that small area allows you to switch up baits and techniques that you really can't do as often when you're trying to cover water by traveling so there is give and take to both.
Rule if your know your lake your fishing and Quality…you know your conditions ..it comes down to finding a pattern…where there stages to Groups!! Alot a life wise I typically do a 15 min rule in else’s for limit and tank fishing in good days
Great video! Which Lake Break was that clip from? I thought I'd seen them all but don't recall that. Most likely my failing memory, but I'll check it out again.
What a coincidence my friend and I have been fishing for 4ish months now and have caught 1 or 2 bass and have been getting frustrated while we watch other anglers catch multiple big ones. One of our first questions was "do we stay in one spot too long?"
Sometimes spot discipline pays off too, I can't tell you how many times I've had to sit at a spot for a good hour or 2 before I start getting bites especially in the summer when the fish move around a lot it's better to let em come to you sometimes.
I’m a bank fisherman who has limited acces to spots on the river… I typically can’t change spots every 15/30 minutes … can I apply this rule to the baits/lures that I throw ? Any help you can provide would be priceless , thanks
My rule is i smoke a cigarette and then if i dont catch anything i move witch is kind a funny iv started doing that on my own without even knowing bc since i started iv been doing this it takes me about 15 mins to have a smoke and so it work great on estimating when i need to move
This is a great technique that I need to get better at. Could you use this technique on power plant lakes? The waters are warmer than normal so most of the fish will not be like normal or other lakes.
Should have made this video a minute longer...to stick with the 15 minute theme lol..... I've requested this before but do you think you'll ever make a video about the TH-cam, video editing side of being a TH-cam fisherman?

I stay more than 15 minute because I slay the entire population in one area. I throw weightless Senkos in 20ft of water for suspending fish. Hardly ever skunk compare to guys that stay less than 15 minute.
I disagree my friend. I think the average angler can go out and catch a lot of fish if they learn to keep moving until you find the fish. But to each their own
@@BassFishingHQ some of the biggest largemouth i have caught were at the most oddest locations. and usually not around other fish. Like I said good advice for a tournament guy when YOU HAVE TO catch fish.
Il have to side with Tyler here. I am no pro fisherman by far. However I want my days to be productive. I have instituted the 15-20 minute rule and have seen a uptick in my bites. I don't think I'm missing the tanks as I will still give 15 minutes to areas that are not considered hot. But if that 15 minutes provides nothing I'm moving on.
@@striperswiper I also agree with Tyler, if the fish are in the mood to eat, they'll let you know pretty soon. In europe we have a tournament called YPC (TH-cam Predator Cup) hosted in mainland europe and now in the UK, its a bank side only competition and all the guys move around a lot, sometimes only going to a place for like 10 casts.
