- In this video we check out the Purple Neon made in Japan Ibanez RG550. Pictures just don't do this justice or capture this color AT ALL! The RG550 series is one of my all time favorite guitar lines as it offers unlimited playability and tonal option from the HSH pick ups. Some guitars hinder or limit your playing by their design however these guitars taunt you to bring it. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and please make a comment.

The purple looks even better in real life. With the black & maple fretboard. Very cool!
Totally agreed, pictures do not capture this thing in person, which is why I hesitated SO many time to buy it. Glad I did!
In person mine looks maroon unless I'm standing at the correct angle

Picked up a desert sun yellow 550 last year. Changed out the bridge pickup to a Dimarzio Sonic Ecstasy and this guitar is perfect !
Love that color also @steveo4253!!! I will have to check out the DiMarzio Sonic Ecstasy, because I am with you, the stock pick up could use an upgrade. I have a Seymour Duncan Pegasus on the shelf collecting dust, and have been thinkin.....

But yeah I have a Cosmic Blue 2003 RG Prestige and I’m sure the Genesis stuff is up to the same standard, I love mine. They did a white 550 a few years ago, but I don’t think they do anymore sadly.
Nice playing Eric, oh Man that is nice, I remember the Orange & Black RG Ibanez you had on a Video a while back. I have the that same guitar but in " Vampire Kiss" Color that was a Sweetwater Exclusive I absolutely love! I need this Purple one now, that color is amazing!

Awesome @Shadowplayer1441! I really love the Road Flare Red also but IMHO the Purple Neon is amazing when the light hits it right! Thinking of getting one or do you already have one?

I do love that color...Always a warm place in my heart the 550 after watching Hurricane videos in the late 80's like "I'm onto you" and "Over the Edge." Sarzo had a bunch of 550s when I saw them open for Stryper that tour. Also, saw Harry Cody play one in Shotgun Messiah. But I finally played an all black one my buddy Ron had...90's model, and the neck was so damn thin compared to my 2020xtb Prestige. I guess I'm so used to that neck and Peavey Wolfgang necks which are round like baseball bats and the thin profile of the super wizard is just too much for me....but as I said....love the look and color of that.
LOL they have been on my watchlist @edguyrocks5865, "over the edge". Heck YES Harry Cody totally rips!!! I had an an early RG570 and its neck was different than the new models. If you get a chance try a Genesis Collection, I think you will be glad you did!
When Ibanez released these under the Genesis name, they also for a limited run released the full hard body RG570, I got the 570 in jewel blue. I haven't played one of these since the early 90's, I forgot how amazing the original Edge Trems are. I put a Seymour Duncan TB6 in the bridge and it has a Seymour SH2 in the neck and all my RG's and jems I always keep the stock mid cause yes, I do use it a lot and I love them. If Ibanez was smart they'd release more colors, they only offer two now and they can't keep them in stock most places I look, obviously they're still selling great, offer more Ibanez...
Oh ya, I the RG570 in jewel blue, awesome. I used to have an RG570 in Black Peral. Does yours have the rosewood fretboard, Rosewood is my preferred fret board material! Agreed they are hard to find now days and in limited numbers brand new. Reason. They're awesome, ha ha Glad you love yours!

My current guitar I haven’t put down since B-Day last year when I turned 50. Most guys that age buy a Porsche; I had to go with my favorite Ibanez for years! I know own my 2nd “Dream” Fujigen guitar; my 20’ I bought myself a present and when I saw these “Genesis” it took me back to 1987 and when I got my 1st REAL guitar in 89’ The “Best” Ibanez RG 570 (JB) even came with Ibanez hard case!#Ibanez#Lifer#Fujigen#RG550(NeonPurple)#Beauatitul, feel, sound, and ALL the bells and whistles from the 80’s even “That Wizard Neck” that I’ve shredded for decades on older RG570(JB) and back then it even came with an Ibanez hardcase! Had a 565 lazer blue for some time. It was cool but i sold it for a couple of things. First i wasn't sure what to do with it as i was still in some blues noodling phase. Another aspect is that i didn't like the color and texture of the neck. I expected it to look more yellow in a way. But maybe that's because i associate it with older guitars that are aged. Do you think you can change the color of the fretboard with lemon oil? I am considering purchasing another because for the price these are absolutely awesome guitars. Btw cool review

I got a RG470DX 3 weeks ago, has a Wizard III neck & plays awesome, stays in tune well & no longer do I usually get Jackson, Ibanez guitars are now my fav, custom pick up swap is the only modification I'll be doing. 😮

Im not necessarily a "lead guitar player" type of guitar player. Though my "rhythm riffs" can be quite complex and demanding a lot of the time.
Ive always been a huge fan of Ibanez guitars, especially the 7 string Universe models. Particularly the one with the mother of pearl pyramid in lay on the body, and the metal pick guard!!
By the way, I really did like your "rhythm tone" you had.

I have the same guitar with yellow volume knobws and switch tip.
I also switched the pickups to Dimarzio Air Norton and Tone zone.
I ve red neon...so nice❤
I had an original RG550 and sold it 🤦♂️. Would love one of these.
I have one yellow 550 genesis. Actually I found the output of the V7V8 are big, so it's suitable for some even high gain scenarios
Nice @InfoHunter09! IMHO the output is fine it is the clarity I am missing,
I modded three of mine to Dimarzio Deactivator and X2N with an F1 in the middle. Green on Yellow, red on Road Flare Red and purple on white. They sound pretty much the same, it is just cool looking.
@4:45 And make sure those 4 screws that bolt down the neck are always tight. loose neck screws will make the neck shift.
4:05 As shown in this picture, Vai uses the LoPro Edge (not the original Edge anymore) for more than a decade. The LoPro Edge is a variation of the Edge, the difference being a lower profile.
The Pia and the current JS guitars all use the original edge and IMHO the best trem ever made. Hope that helps.
@@X9Eric Yes, they come from factory with the original Edge, but Vai himself uses the LoPro Edge these days. He doesn't use stock guitars, he customizes them.

Wow, thank you for pointing that out with the cracks on the neck joint. I've never heard of it before and now i've just noticed cracks on each side on the joint on mine. I wouldn't have thought it's possible, but basswood is indeed a weak wood and you should be careful with holding the guitar.
Eh no worries it happens, mine has one too @marcrchz4723! Guitars ARE made to be played and our guitars have CHARACTER now! ha ha
@@X9Eric That's a good attitude, that's how i've started to see it. If it gets dinged that means that you're playing so be proud of it. The crack could actually be shock related, because it had fallen over out of my gigbag. Nothing happened because it fell on the front where the hardwear is, but the crack might be because of it. If it's a soft wood the crack might actually because the wood is moving but the finish coat can't, at least i read it's only the finish most of the time.
I've had neck pocket cracks on my destroyer for 20 years, it'll be fine :)

Heck ya @erikanderson9119. Remember the guys in Carcass used to tune them to B, it can totally handle it! AND this is a GREAT way to add some life to your riffs and playing as I believe it will pull some new music out of you!!

Hey @trevorshear7737, great idea though I only have this Ibanez (passive pick ups and tremolo) and an ESP LTD JM-II (active pick ups and no tremolo) and IMHO are pretty different from each other. I would use the LTD to achieve a more modern high gain metal and the Ibanez for everything really. Though IMHO the RG is one of the most versatile guitars available. hope that helps,
Man you make it hard to not want to buy another guitar 🤘🤘🤘Sweet intro, sounded awesome and that purple definitely looks the part. That yellow with matching yellow case looked killer as well. I was looking at ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Demonology and wanted to buy it just for the case - kinda silly I know, but sometimes things just look that good you want one. Question re EZdrummer 3, what drums were you using, was that part of an EZX, midi pack or part of the standard inclusion?

I get it Cases are part of the package, would love to see more guitars offered with cool cases! EZdrummer standard inclusion, I typically modify the patterns and mix's to taste. Love EZdrummer!
Someone told me neck cracks are caused by grabbing the guitar by the top horn and that you should hold it by the neck.
You should hold it at the neck joint. Even with holding it at the neck, mine has cracks after about a year.
I am no expert @fattphilosopher1047, but I train myself to grab all guitar at the neck joint now as shown in the video, ha ha

Started playing when I was a kid like eight or nine years old. I don't think they could be anybody on the planet that loves music anymore than I do. But I don't understand the obsessive collection of guitars I've had as many as six guitars at once my whole life and I only played two voice chat in the rack that's the way with the obsessive amplifiers I just don't get it it's like people don't know how to find their own sound so they have to keep searching and searching because they've never developed their own sound. I don't sound like anybody else because I've never tried to I was pretty much self-taught voice sound like me never wanted to play covers always made my own music just don't understand about the guitar players why would you want to buy a guitar because somebody else please why would you want to sound like somebody else.
You sound like a true virtuoso @johnburris3395a. Very few are gifted with that skill and I hope you are sharing your special gifting with others! IMHO, some musicians are on the constant hunt for the perfect guitar and amp combination searching for the holy grail ha ha. I have learned that there are certain combinations that provide specific results and for me I like to have access to these for recording and creating. But this is a good reminder to me to search less and play/record more. Thank you!

@@X9Eric It’s really easy to play. Mine has the Edge Pro bridge which seems a lot better than Floyd on my ESP guitars. The build quality is better than any other guitars I own in my opinion. The fret work is next level compared to the ESP Standard Series MII I have. I would say it’s better than the signature series guitars I have.
