Man, this is such a great review. You are an amazing player and have a fantastic guitar collection. Best of all, you have an in depth knowledge of Ibanez and I really learn a lot from you. I know videos like this must take a lot of work, but please keep it up!
Another advantage to the modern approach to neck joints: they are much less lively to develop that cosmetic neck pocket crack on the body that plagues pre AANJ Ibbys (and many Fenders to be honest). In the old design the top half of the body has a force from the neck pointing towards the bridge, but the back half of the body does not. This force differential leads to the crack. It's not really a structural issue, but it is a blemish on an otherwise rather collectable guitar.
I used to own a ‘91 original back in the day. I regret selling it. Great guitar. There is something special about these 565’s that the other RG models lack of. Great review and lucky for us to hear the two gens of 565s back to back. The original has a darker and more in your face sound which I prefer. Thank you.
What are your thoughts on the new Genesis 565, underwhelming or amazing? Looking forward to making more vids and suggestions! UPDATE!!!!!! It looks like Ibanez took the 565 off the website, I HIGHLY suggest you guys grab the few left in the various online retailers that have them left!!!!

@@alexwalker5645 the RG565 ofc. The only thing I didn't like about them are the colour choices: orange and teal. I got the Emerald Green (teal) one. I like the RG550 Purple Neon but that was about it. The feel of the RG550 kinda feels off, and mind I actually got 2 RG550-PN tried: 1st was when I exchanged it for an LTD M-1, and the 2nd Purple Neon got exchanged with this RG565. They just feel off, and the pickups really sound different on 2 separate RG550 vs the RG565. Lastly, I do kinda get that intimidating vibe on the RG550: true super-shredder with black pickguard, it's like everyone's gonna look at you and expect nothing less. While for the RG565 I could just feel being myself.
Great video specially the intro. I have had mine for about a month and have not put it down. Mine was sold as "flawed" because of a very slight neck pocket crack. BUT as it turns out i have the same issues with the paint running along the top edge of the body. really only shows in certain light. But something to be aware of when purchasing one of these. Even with the flaws still an amazing guitar.
I didn't know the 3xxv was only made 1 year...I had 1 of the Red ones..it came stock with a Dimarzio DeActivator in the bridge position and whatever single coil in the neck position stock.. I got it for about $350 off Ebay new without a case..I didn't like the DeActivator pickup so put a SD JB trembucker in there and it made a huge difference in a good way. I sold it to a friend of mine and he still has it..that was 2014.
This guitar is on my list! I saw it was taken off the website so I guess I'd better get one soon. The orange is 🔥. I was hoping we'd get another Genesis guitar but a Saber this time :/
Good Review. These are available but you have to hunt for them. I have 3 of them. I got 2 of the emerald green and one orange. They do sound rather thin versus many of my other guitars but this was never a selling feature for Ibanez. It was playability. Just a fun fact, Sweetwater has commissioned Ibanez to do 2 special colors, a blue and a purple in the RG 565. I had an opportunity to buy both but I think the first 2 colors are far superior. If you look in Sweetwater's site you won't see them because the demand far exceeds the availability for those new colors. I must say I much prefer the 5 piece on this build rather than the scarf joint on the original. I had one of the original RG565 emerald greens and modded it but ended up selling it. I really like the new builds.
those blue and vampire special dont look that good, the blue one i thought it was gonna be like the original laser blue but is a darker blue and it doesnt look neon maybe thats why the first 2 colors orange and green look better, theyre true neon color, i dont think the blue and purple are neon why you need to have them in every color tho ? lol imo the best is the orange thats the one i have, i wouldnt mind having the green but is the same guitar just the color makes no sense to me

I'd love to own one of these, but the huge heel block is a showstopper to me... I understand this is a reissue, but having AANJ would've made it perfect for my tastes.
I agree with you on the heel for sure. It took me a while to get comfy with the old heel but the AANJ wins in playability. Thankfully most Prestige models are all AANJ so in many cases, it's the successor to the old models.

Stock pickups do well but having a good amp is crucial. If you block the tremolo it should not have any tuning problems but the Ibanez Edge Trem is one of the best versus the bridges you find on Indonesia Ibanez models. Hope that helps!
@@IbanezGuy88 Good evening! I'm not going to block the tremolo! I 'm interested in how he keeps the formation and there are no problems with him ???? Now there is a choice between ibanez rg 565 and ibanez premium made in Indonesia! But the premium series is much more expensive why can't I say!????
Not yet, I'm currently in the process of buying the Laser Blue in Japan they have that I will put a Air Norton S in the neck and a PAF Pro in the bridge.
The new Genesis sounds more low mid focused and the older sounds more upper mid focused 🤔 😉. Just my humble opinion, but a lot depends on those sounds.....
Originals will be harder to find and more expensive to purchase if anything happens to my original. For a reissue, it's nice to have for collecting purposes, and to play. Also knowing the genesis is built more sturdy than the original.
@@slavemi3018 I say it comes to personal preference. If you like a mean reverse headstock, 565! But both guitars will give you great tone options. The RG550 may give you better pickup splitting choices though, and as always, COLOR CHOICES !😍

Yeah unfortunately, the day I posted this review, Ibanez took it off their website. You can still find a few in some online retailers though. Such a bummer!
I really liked the RG565 in orange. I really thought seriously about getting it last year. But there were a few things about it that kept me from buying it. No ss frets, orange inlays, heel joint block. But the orange still was beautiful!
I do really love this 565 but why... Why the reverse headstock. Why. I'm not a fan of reverse headstock. Same goes to Jackson. Preferred the original headstock. Juz love the orange color & the pickup configuration in this 565...
gotta pedal more shitty indo guitars with bullshit finishes and dumb specs. Ibanez loves to sell "pigs in lipstick" guitars and many people love to buy them. Insanity when this fujigen Ibanez was $1000 new and $800 at most places like GC with a coupon, but kids keep buying burl puke finishes with exposed bevels and fishmans, on crappy indo guitars. HYPE
Everytime I tried order one of these they were out of stock everwhere. I wish Ibanez would have produced more of these and kept them out there for more than a year.. Not cool.
@@IbanezGuy88 Well they still have the Genesis line but they're still just offering those 3 550's. I don't get it.. If they're selling like crazy and a lot of places can't keep them in stock wouldn't you want to build that line up more? Ibanez has me scratching my head lately. These last like 2-3 years, they've been offering pretty much the same stuff, nothing new or inspiring. just boring. And that worries me, cause they're sleeping on what on us bedroom players that are their biggest customers. We're not going to fork out 2 grand for a prestige just to play around in our room with. We're going to buy up the 350 to 550 Rg's those under a grand. And yeah they've offered I think more interesting fixed bridge guitars, but their "floyd" style.. same few guitars they've had for a few years now.. It's sad. I don't get how they can charge 500-700 for an import that comes w/ the DL trem (one of the worst trems ever created IMO) I get why they dropped their quality standards and using the DL trem's and the quantum pups for the cheaper 350-450 Rg's in the 300-400 range, but putting that garbage on 500+ guitars... I'd rather save a couple hundred more and get a Charvel or Kramer that comes w/ Jb's and a floyd 1000. And I spend decades being that Ibanez guy that was true and faithful and talked smack about other brands compared to Ibanez.. But, truth be told these last few years, I've bought Kramers, Jacksons and even Harley Bentons, I purchased one Ibanez in the last 3 years and it was a Jiva10 and the QC on it was the worst i ever received ever. Every fret was super sharp, the frets themselves had to be filed and leveled, the trem collar and the part it screws onto like weren't threaded to match, so it wouldn't screw on. And Jiva 10s arent cheap. Ibanez has really been worrying me lately.
"available for 999,99" So 1000 dollars.:P I want the orange one so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! If you ever want to get rid of the orange one, you know, if you feel you have too many guitars, send me a DM.:P
I received this new guitar yesterday. The color is fantastic! Unfortunately, fret sides are still not perfect and sharp. I also expected that frets will be bigger and higher, but they are pretty average. Not sure that this guitar has Japan quality or something.
Temp/humidity will play a role in frets shrinking and expanding from the fretboard. However, it can also be a possible case that they didn't file the edges 100% smooth. Hope it gets resolved though!
Yeah, it's such a shame because I still continue to play their guitars mainly because of these reissues/ Genesis line they created. The newer Prestige line doesn't tickle my fancy, and the Premium/ Indonesian guitars are a let down to what the brand's originally known for. At this rate, I might consider playing for another brand in the future, but who knows! 😂
@@IbanezGuy88 same it's all indo junk with fancy finishes and "cool" specs. I just want MIJ quality and the Genesis line is just the perfect deal. I just don't know what other brands are comparable. MIJ Jacksons cost a fortune.
The reissued version sounds flat , empty and to put it mildly ... cheaply. Which , however , is predictable . Such a sound as this new version, in principle, can be obtained by buying some Chinese junk with similar specifications, for about 200 dollars.. And if you could still close your eyes to a clear sound , then working with distortion is what these guitars were actually created for , in the blessed 80s .. And working with distortion is just lousy here.An empty , prickly itch . The original sounds cooler by two heads . Although it appears at the same time ..just a good - quality , genre instrument of its era .
Hi, just got this guitar and I am completely disappointed. Why? The neck connection is a joke! It's thick and not rounded, and you dont´t have real access to the high notes. And I cannot believe that this is not being noticed in the reviews. Apparently this problem does not exist in most other RG models, so I wonder what happened to Ibanez here. This configuration doesn’t make any sense, and this has nothing to do with a shredding guitar!
The Genesis collection goes back to it's original design with the tilt neck joint. You are correct, for some people, they find this very uncomfortable. With others, they can get by with playing the higher notes. That's why with the early to mid 90's they changed the neck joint to the all access neck joint to reduce this problem people were having. I personally can play with either but I hop you find another instrument that helps you.
@@IbanezGuy88 , well, to repeat this crap makes the whole issue even more grotesque. It is a complete lack of common sense and I wonder which idiot is responsible at Ibanez for this. I don´t know what you play, but stuff like Eruption etc is virtually impossible. Again, I feel fooled by all these positive reviews.

@@IbanezGuy88 Good evening! I'm not going to block the tremolo! I 'm interested in how he keeps the formation and there are no problems with him ???? Now there is a choice between ibanez rg 565 and ibanez premium made in Indonesia! But the premium series is much more expensive why can't I say!????
what is your favorite body, neck and fingerboard wood ?
Basswood body, Maple neck and fingerboard :)
@@IbanezGuy88 do you prefer basswood with or without a maple top? Maple or roasted maple neck?
Oh hey it's Shredtalk
Did you change the original pickups? If so, what did you choose?
Not yet, I'm currently in the process of buying the Laser Blue in Japan they have that I will put a Air Norton S in the neck and a PAF Pro in the bridge.
The new Genesis sounds more low mid focused and the older sounds more upper mid focused 🤔 😉. Just my humble opinion, but a lot depends on those sounds.....
Glad you can hear the difference between the two!
It could be the age of the magnets that changed the tone of the pickups on the older one.
Its the neck pocket, hes talking about it at 9:15, it definitely makes the guitar sound more big and put together
I liked your video 📹
Made me laugh!
good job man it's really 80'
you have a red RG565 DX at the back, why would you still get that RG565 reissue??
Originals will be harder to find and more expensive to purchase if anything happens to my original. For a reissue, it's nice to have for collecting purposes, and to play. Also knowing the genesis is built more sturdy than the original.
@@IbanezGuy88 if you can only choose between either the RG550 or the RG565, which one will you get? (and what colour?)
@@IbanezGuy88 oh yeah I second this question! (RG550 vs RG565, which one to choose?)
@@slavemi3018 I say it comes to personal preference. If you like a mean reverse headstock, 565! But both guitars will give you great tone options. The RG550 may give you better pickup splitting choices though, and as always, COLOR CHOICES !😍
@@giancarlom. As a tough choice, if it came down to one, the 550! Mainly because I played that model for a longer period than the 565.
Which pickups you finally put on it?
Still stock so far! But I'm looking at the Air Norton S and PAF Pro for this in the future!
@@IbanezGuy88 nice, have not expected to get a reply to be honest:) Ended up with Air Norton S and Dreamcathcer for mine. WIl let you know how it sounds when it arrives from the luthier^^
@@fortheseven1 how's the sound so far buddy?
The RG565 from last year? Those are obsolete now, no longer available in 2022. Or did I misunderstand something?
Yeah unfortunately, the day I posted this review, Ibanez took it off their website. You can still find a few in some online retailers though. Such a bummer!
They are available on Thomann. Both colors, but RG550's go out of stock usually...
I really liked the RG565 in orange. I really thought seriously about getting it last year. But there were a few things about it that kept me from buying it. No ss frets, orange inlays, heel joint block.
But the orange still was beautiful!
Хвалà тоз Айбаньез! Gustoso!
The OG red one sounds a lot better.
I do really love this 565 but why... Why the reverse headstock. Why. I'm not a fan of reverse headstock. Same goes to Jackson. Preferred the original headstock. Juz love the orange color & the pickup configuration in this 565...
I love reverse headstocks they barely ever do reverse headstocks I want one
The good guitar
Where's the genesis rg570?
The RG565 is already out of the lineup for Ibanez in 2022. :/
gotta pedal more shitty indo guitars with bullshit finishes and dumb specs. HYPE
Thomann has them in stock, both colors.
Everytime I tried order one of these they were out of stock everwhere. I wish Ibanez would have produced more of these and kept them out there for more than a year.. Not cool.
Totally feel you on that dude, I would have hoped the Genesis line would stay longer for sure.
"available for 999,99"
So 1000 dollars.:P
I want the orange one so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!
Ibanez 'jumbo' 'frets aren't as tall as some other companies, like Jackson. I also wish they were taller.
かっこいい!
I bought the Rg550 Genesis instead. That reverse headstock is awful.
ah, the review came just in time for Ibanez to stop selling them. :p
MIJ Jacksons cost a fortune.
you can hear the cheapness of the modern electronics
