I had the pleasure of seeing her perform this Spectacular song back in 1979 at the Capital Center in Landover Maryland..her voice Soared to the rafters and beyond she was truly Electrifying! and She looked so beautiful in a blue sequin gown .💙
Nobody does "Lucy In The Sky" like Natalie Cole!!!!! I think she also did this on "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" and she tore it up!!!! Natalie was a phenomenal singer that left us too soon. RIP "Ms. Cole".
I saw Natalie Cole do this live at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Va back in the 80s and she tore this song up on stage...brought down the house. Love and miss her!
This is the best cover version of this Beatles classic. I saw her in a small club back in the 1980’s and she was awesome. A tremendous talent that will forever leave a void in the music industry.
I got to see Natalie perform this live (somewhere around '78, same outfit!) and it was an amazing show!! Got to meet her after and she was so gracious. She remains an inspiration, taking the best from the best, her father, Aretha etc. and still giving everything her own unique stamp! There is no denying this woman's talent!! Thanks for posting this.
I watched the original airing of this performance and it blew me away! I remember being mesmerized. I've thought about it many times, through the years. I just looked it up and found it here on youtube. It blew me away again!!! Thank you for posting!
let me tell you Natalie went to church on this it made me have goose bumps all over like her father she became unforgettable with this one for sure. She shines like the diamond she is
So thankful for her contributiuon to music. Grew up lsitening to her and coumtless others. I really appreciate her voice and this amazing performance. Another Great.
As a kid I remember listening to her live album and wearing this song out...over and over and over again. On that recording she sang this song to pieces. It's great to actually see her stage antics while hearing her voice render this cover. In later years, I also wondered if she was high during the album recording...it was just so out there and crazy, like she was caught up in or on something. This was wonderful, but can't touch the album version.
She really sung the life out of this Lennon and McCartney favorite to pieces with those amazing vocal gymnastics. There will never be another voice like Natalie Cole's. She was the real deal. Thank you for posting this killer performance.
all this time I thought nothing could top the one from the album 😳 rewound the DIAMONDS bit at the end a few times, just DOPE AF! Rest In Peace Natalie! ⚘
Lord God.Your with Natalie now and I bet you've got her singing each and every day.Lord your lucky. Please look after Natalie and all the musicians past and present, because through music, we can all dream.
+Nikita cavalli Oh come on. They have nothing in common except race and drug use. One is from an era where you had to have talent to get ahead and other from the mid 1980s era of mass marketing and identity demographics still seen today. Natalie Cole had the potential to be a like rock opera singer a little like Donna Summer who was also influenced by the late 1960s psychedelic era both acknowledged Janis Joplin as having made a profound impression on them while WH was in the same league with Madonna.
+Davin Dx Lmao They have everything in common!!!Both were sophisticated, beautiful black talented singers who sang gospel fueled pop songs that could cross over!!! Even their personalities(not even referencing the drug abuse) were similar... Both came from musical and priveledged backgrounds of famous singing parents and both had that Sista Girl;Ergo : Hood background. Both owned the stage ....When Natalie fell off Whitney was the replacement....To take it further both lived for Chaka Khan who was Natalie's bestie and Whitney's idol!!! There vids on here of Whitney and Natalie singing together and you would think Natalie was Whitney's mother or Big sister from the similarities of stage presence, sophistication yet earthiness!!!
unreal this is 45 years old in 2023 but i never heard or saw this yet there were so many media outlets before the youtube age. this was the real funk rock talent not shitney hou stain or madonnkey or janet jackson.
this 1978 production included earth wind and fire which it shouldn't have as natalie cole was more fit to be on a tv special with rocker women or even donna summer but not earth wind and fire.
her voice is so stupendous here but her 1980 and 1981 albums should have been some harder rock songs and she faltered in the early 1980s. unreal that pissants like madonna and jacket jackson were promoted in the 1980s to appeal to people with base music tastes and that the 1980s was not dominated by rock-funk from natalie cole.
This is everything.
Sing Natalie Cole sing 🤗👍👍😀 The hair is all her's and the fabulous Outfit 🤗🤗 but she sang this Classic song 🤗🤗👍👍 Luv u Queen 😘😘..R.I.P. NATALIE COLE

I was living in Alaska, when I saw this, she tore this song up, but was high as a Kite!
I watched the original airing of this performance and it blew me away! I remember being mesmerized. I've thought about it many times, through the years. I just looked it up and found it here on youtube. It blew me away again!!! Thank you for posting!

This is a great performance!
Great vocal range on this song. I always loved when she sang this song
WOW!!! There was not nothing Ms. Natalie Cole couldn't do! YOU DID THAT!!! YOU WERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE FABULOUS!!! L O V E U!!! R.I.P. BEAUTIFUL!!

clearly the best Lucy version I've got to know since yet
all this time I thought nothing could top the one from the album 😳 rewound the DIAMONDS bit at the end a few times, just DOPE AF! Rest In Peace Natalie! ⚘

Natalie blessed my soul with her renditions of "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" I will miss her forever. R.I.P.
One of her Greatest! So in Love with Natalie. Would follow her anywhere.

0:55 love her look here. she is 28 years old in april 1978.
Nice!
Wow😮😮😮😮😊
Damn, that was hot!
❣❣❣❣❣❣
curiously the best Beatles cover comes from the jazz/soul scene, while the pop/rock ones are usually quite weak
Jezuz!!
Good voice!
@TREYDAWG32434 i believe you, this is a very small world and im sure natalie worked with hundreds of talented muscians, including ur dad. :)
HOT
@rrhubj0hhn
It was editing, the song was shortened if you can believe that.
thats my dad no lie i promise thats my dad 2:40
4:12 to 4:22 like janis joplin a wild woman
What happened to her voice at 2:12?
Now thats a cover! Not like Miley Cyrus.
Who is that weirdo at the end? He ruined the whole video. Edit that out.
ma chi sono quei 4 deficenti che metto no?????????
L
1978 the greatest women in music had albums out natalie cole, donna summer, grace slick of jefferson starship and ann and nancy wilson of heart.
i know she toured in 1988 she had one concert that was cancelled . wish i could have got to see her once in my lifetime.
unreal this is 45 years old in 2023 but i never heard or saw this yet there were so many media outlets before the youtube age. this was the real funk rock talent not shitney hou stain or madonnkey or janet jackson.
this is 1978 a mere 10 year earlier natalie cole was 18 years old in 1968 and was influenced by the hippie peace and love scene, she was of that era.
Release date
April 27, 1978 (United States)
when did she record this? awesome version but needed more explosive rock music to back it up.
maybe she was referring to the 1978 film sgt peppers lonely hearts club. a creepy movie but would have been cool if she was in it.
this 1978 production included earth wind and fire which it shouldn't have as natalie cole was more fit to be on a tv special with rocker women or even donna summer but not earth wind and fire.
2:54 looks like a woman playing the piano or keyboards as the clothing is yellow and hanging off the wrists.
her voice is so stupendous here but her 1980 and 1981 albums should have been some harder rock songs and she faltered in the early 1980s. unreal that pissants like madonna and jacket jackson were promoted in the 1980s to appeal to people with base music tastes and that the 1980s was not dominated by rock-funk from natalie cole.
