I’ve had 2 good friends who bought Mahindra tractors in the 40 to 60 hp range and both had issues with them. This made me steer clear from them. Maybe the quality has gotten better in the last several years. I sold my large frame 2nd gen Deere and got a CK Kioti and honestly knock on wood it’s been great and outshines the Deere in just about every other way. Great video Brock.

@@offermanfamily4953 No, it just means that some of us want to spend our money wisely so we look at known issues and do some research and try to make the best judgemental call with the information we have. If I'm going to spend thousands of dollars on an object, I at least want to know that (in theory) it will hold up over time.

hey brock i have a mahindra 5145 brought new from AL. Have 215 hours on it in about a year, i have only had one issue the shifter cable broke. Love the tractor for the money. i use it mainly for clearing land, tilling and using the woodland mills stump grinder

I got a 1626 several months ago and absolutely love it. I shopped around and nothing in a similar size could lift as much and the 1626 was at least $20k less than anything else near me.

I was a fully trained and certified dealership diesel tech from 2003 to 2011. No DPF or regen does make that tractor simpler. Common rail injection still means a complicated computer controlled fuel injection system with a very expensive fuel pump and sensitive to fuel quality.

I loved my 2320 deere and dealer. I treaded it in on a mahindra 2638 last July. The first 70 hrs have been good. I have a front axle seal leak, which I replaced both on my deere. The dealer covered it and was a 1 day job. So far, the weight, power and lift capacity have been great. It's an awesome machine. Will all come down to parts and service long term. I do most my own work as I am a diesel tech by trade.

Mahindra looks to be based on "old school"simplicity. Also a lot of Massey ferguson tractors are built in India using technology from the 60's.Heavy,simple,with minimal bells.Work horses.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I would agree with that comment other than the fact it has a computer controlled fuel injection. They don’t really have a choice, but to do something we don’t like in that category. It’s either common rail fuel or the DPF filter.

With the exception of the TYM with the (former) Kukje engine, I think all the engines in this size machine are common rail direct fuel injection. There’s a lot of controls and sensors on it for it to work, but it is supposedly more efficient/cleaner running. I’m not exactly sure how Mahindra gets away without a DPF unless they run really hot with EGR or something. I like the simplicity of mechanical fuel injection like the TYM (or my 1981 Ford 1700), but it’s becoming obsolete with all the modern electronics and sensors and emissions regs. Then again, maybe I like mechanical fuel injection because I understand how it works. The engine runs until you shut the fuel off!

Howdy Brock! I've been pretty happy with my little Mahindra. Just one issue with the front axle that was my fault not Mahindra's. I addressed it in one of my very first videos. When I'm ready to go bigger it probably won't be Mahindra just because 1) The dealership I bought it from is gone, so not sure how far I would have to go for any service work. 2) No cab in that 50hp range. If I'm going to stay in this cold climate, I want a damn cab! Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

If thats a true power reverser.
With no clutch use, thats a nice advantage in my book.
Finding them in smaller tractors is not an easy task.
But then im massively against hydrostatic setups, so im definitely more in favor of manual transmission setups.
Haveing 12 speeds in a smaller tractor is a plus over the usual 8 speed shuttle setup.
    .
The PTO lever is probably a rare case, of not using any electrical equipment for its engagement.
    .
Its also nice to see the 540E mode, in a tractor thats sub 75hp
    .
The black lever on the right side is probably the remote hydraulics on rear.

It’s my understanding that Mahindra has a dpf filter but it is set up to burn over 300 degrees at all times the other manufacturers do not run the exhaust as hot thus needing a regen cycle that super heats the dpf to clean it Mahindra always in a clean cycle other brands run short high temp regens necessary to clean the filter but both do have the dpf just using different methods to purge them clean. That is a nice looking tractor definitely built a little heavier than the compact tractors the other brands build

I have a 5145 Mahindra and am very happy with it. I am looking forward to the 1126 sub compact.
BTW, you are wrong, as others have said, about the levers on the right. The lever closest to the fender controls the auxiliary hydraulics rear remote. The other lever controls the three point lift. It has adjustable stops on the lever frame to set the height or lower position.

4540 Mahindra would have been a good one to look at. When i bought my Mahindra max24, I priced a 4540 4wd with loader and it was 18k and some change. But that was back 2016 or 17.

  • @zacharyphillipspharmd

Mahindra was one of my biggest mistakes. The local dealer who sold it stopped selling and servicing Mahindra shortly after. Of course the engine blew with normal use, but I can’t find anyone to work on it. It hasn’t retained its value, but parted out, it’s more valuable than purchase price, so maybe others are having difficulty servicing theirs as well.

I test drove the 2638. The loader was jerky . I'm 6'1" and the leg room was very limited. I could feel my legs being torced back into my hip sockets. Probably a decent tractor for shorter users but the TYM was vastly a better tractor with 1000 pounds more fel capacity, roomier floorboard, smooth loader, and the tractor weighs more.

Thanks for the comparison. I currently own a Mahindra 5555 4x4 op station. Love it used it for vegetable production in Oklahoma. Had 0 problems and I bought it with 66hrs on it. So basically a used tractor. I went through the same motion u are currently going through by comparing tractors. And I finally bought the Mahindra. Have a couple of dealers in my area and it's simple to work on.
Verry strong and light on fuel.
Having said that, it is currently up for sale, as I quit farming and no longer need it. I am looking at skidsteers just to do general maintenance on farm land.
What should your preference be on that, and why.

I have a Mahindra 4530 that i bought in 2013 . It is about 45 hp. I think the loader is rated about 2950. The tractor with loader weights around i think 7200 lbs if i remember right. These tractors are built heavy and are wori horses. The 30 series is a bare bones simple no frills machine . I have had no issues with it yet . My tractor does stay inside when not in use and is very well maintained. Would i buy another Mahindra? Probably not just because of the dealer network. My dealer closed up , not sure why . They were only about a half hour away . Now i have to go an hour to o next closest dealer not a big deal but just don't get that same fuzzy feeling as my original dealer. Anyway just my 2 cents. I enjoying this series of videos and I think your doing a good job on comparing the different brands.

We really need to plug all these numbers into a spreadsheet. Now I'm starting to consider replacing my L4701HST with something a cab, better lift capacity, and a little more PTO horsepower. My gut reaction is the TYM, but it like every other tractor, it's not perfect. There may be a better value out there, and the TYM may or may not have something that makes it a deal breaker.

Maybe it's just me, but in 20 years as a mechanic I've never experienced a diesel ECM break. It is not a big issue. I think I would remember that because it would be so unique.
Injectors is not too uncommon to break on common rail systems because of the very high pressure and bad quality fuel, a very bad combo. Occasional high pressure pumps break too because of this.
But they undoubtedly have more electrical issues due to all the sensors needed.

Mahindra makes a good tractor. Looked at them when shopping for a cabbed tractor after living with open station tractors for too many years in a cold northern climate with hot humid summers. Mahindra tractors are crazy-LOUD inside the cab and seemed like more vibration compared to others (maybe the noise made it seem like more vibration 🤷‍♀). If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful experience inside a cab, Mahindra is not it. Plan on wearing hearing protection and forget the radio. Not a huge deal if you are good with something like a 3M Worktunes bluetooth device.

This comment is a bit out of context regarding comparison of the new 45-70hp tractors being looked at here, but what I would give for a simple functional workhorse of a tractor with a 3 or 4 cylinder Detroit Diesel.
I'm sorry, but tractors, in the big scheme of the multitude of vehicles on the road and off road worldwide, do not contribute any measurable particulate pollution, assuming particulates are the true boon to humanity's existence.

I did the exact same comparisons as you are doing. I settled on the TYM 5835. Mahindra engine was super loud and rough running. I ran a comparable New Holland at the same dealership, and it was incredibly smooth but lots of plastic that looked like it would dry rot in no time. I’ve also heard from several folks that Mahindra is notorious for not being able to get parts. After I sat in the operator station of the TYM 5835, I was sold. I’m 6’2” and had tons of leg room. Only thing is, it doesn’t come in a cab version yet. I also like the idea of the 3pt lift using external cylinders for easier service if anything ever went wrong, you wouldn’t have to take the top off the tractor.

Mahindra uses much larger cubic inch engines with lower RPMs to get the same horsepower. Example the engines for a 55 HP Mahindra is probably the same cubic inch of a 85 HP or HP of the other brands.

All modern tractors have common rall fuel injection. The Mahindras have a doc ( diesel oxujashin cadulist ) those things are always burning off the emissions and how it does that is it rots the dirty air back into the engine that is not good for engines. I would not want to a tractor that is braving in bad dirty emissions to meet the requirements

I’m not an expert on anything and I don’t try to be
My information provided in this video came from conversation with the dealership, followed up with a conversation with an engineer that I know who diesel emissions components
I would like you to educate and the other viewers on the things that I said that were incorrect

    • @wizard_of_poz4413
      @wizard_of_poz4413 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@RockhillfarmYT alright, to clarify. Anything that's over 25hp these days is gonna be common rail no matter who makes it, otherwise it would be physically impossible to perform a regen cycle which requires fuel to either be chucked in on the exhaust stroke of 1 or 2 cylinders or requires a doser injector for fuel downstream in the exhaust pipe.
The reason that Mahindra isn't using a particulate filter is I'm presuming they can tune the engine to meet particulate caps in-cylinder with some timing adjustments and probably a doc which is just a catalytic converter.
Now all these engines are most likely gonna have a cooled egr circuit to keep combustion temps down and displace the excess oxygen that's taken in which will mostly solve the NOx emissions which is usually in a conflict with keeping particulate matter emissions down as well.
Now when you get into SCR systems which use exhaust fluid, that's a completely independent system that introduces the urea compound downstream of the engine into the exhaust system and that chemical reaction will destroy the NOx molecules and turn them into nitrogen gas. This system is only used on engines above 75hp and the beauty of it, is that it does not negatively affect anything in the engine like the other 2 devices, except it's viewed negatively because i guess putting a gallon of fluid in from time to time is too much for people

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@wizard_of_poz4413 great, now you’re adding to a conversation that will be read by others and possibly providing valuable information.
What I’m attempting to do is provide value to someone who shopping for a tractor by explaining the important part of this that is relevant to them.
In this case, what is important to the buyer to understand and maybe they didn’t already know is that this is one of the only tractors over 25 hp that you can get does not have a DPF filter.
If I messed up a terminology or didn’t perfectly explain. It doesn’t take away from the information.
The most important thing I’ve learned here is that this is an electronically controlled fuel injection that is supposed to deliver a more precise amount of fuel whereas TYM kukje engine is mechanical
On the TM Tractor, if it has to regen, you have to park it for that regen. But in a majority of TYM owners say that their tractors essentially never do a regen
I think this is the information people care about while Tractor shopping
Here’s a great video that talks about the difference between the Mahindra engine and kukje engine

@RockhillfarmYT right and I want to point out anytime I see anyone who's trying to spread information that's not as accurate as they can present it whether by intent or not because either way it damages the whole commons by spreading a ton of really irritating superstition and bs and that's the last thing we need when we're under pressure from regulatory and commercial entities who want to get rid of engines altogether and switch us to battery everything
