Lionesses keep their cubs away from the pride until they're about 6 weeks old. The cubs have to be big enough, robust enough to withstand pride life, which is often fractious, especially at feeding time.

True in a way, but the lion mostly protects the pride's TERRITORY from other lions and predators like hyenas. Not necessarily the pride, but his territory. He often wanders off to patrol, and the pride is left on its own. But that's fine because no predators actually bother a pride of lionesses. Too much trouble, plus there's the risk of the lion being nearby too

Single moms like the Lions, Cheetah and the Leopard are wonderful and dynamic moms. Cheetah and Leopard are truly single moms, and in the case of the Lioness, especially when she gives birth. Lions typical live in a pride and usually have their sisters, aunts, mom or grandma to help with caring and feeding the cubs. Lioness when she gives birth this is when she is truly alone and can not rely on the pride for assistance because she must keep her cubs away from the pride until they are about six to eight weeks old. Her time away from the pride is to protect the extremely vulnerable newborn cubs from the larger pride members, to allow them to become strong so that they can walk with the mom. Tiny, and too big to carry all at one time. They will need to become strong to make it through the bush. Its during this time that cubs are especially vulnerable,. Single mom Lioness will need to hunt for herself or if she's lucky she can join the pride on the hunt or come to their kills. But when she leaves them to eat, the cubs are left alone knowing that predators lurk all around. If a rogue male enters her territory and there is a pride take over, the mother lioness will in some cases leave the territory to protect her cubs from infantilize which would results in the massacre of all of her precious cubs. Lioness mothers may have a difficulty at this time and as stated because they have no one to depend on and must hunt for food and hope that while there bringing home the bacon that their cubs are safe. In many ways the stress and concerns we have are as humans are very similar to what these cats experiences. As humans and a single mom, married or with or without partners, the mom feels the tension and high anxiety when so much pressure is on them. The love for the cub and the need to protect and safeguard them results in tremendous stress and anxiety. All of this pressure results in a stressful state of being because of your maternal love. If you have to work and leave your baby cub you want to ensure that whomever is caring for your cub is reliable and responsible. And so when you leave your cub you hope that while your bringing home the bacon that they or he or she is safe. OMG the stress, concern and pressure can be overwhelming because the mothers bond to her baby is like no other, its so special and is unique, unmatched and powerful. Its that love that drives the mothers to do what they do.

Lol, no. The lioness will raise the cubs for 6 weeks on her own and then introduce them to the pride (and after that they will take the collective responsibility). She raised them for 6 weeks on her because until then cubs will be too sensitive for rough pride life and sometimes get seriously hurt even will playing with pride members.

They are only single for the first few months. And the opportunity to scavenge on the leftovers of the pride's kills is ever present. She loses weight during this time but constantly produces milk so the cubs don't ever starve. And she has to spend zero energy worrying about other invading lions killing her cubs. The male lion(s) use their free time to sleep and check the boundaries of their territory constantly. And the male lions of her pride are well established. She only lets a big daddy get it in. Male lions of the mother's pride that aren't the father rarely kill cubs.
