  • A weekend trip to Upper Whirinaki Hut in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park, New Zealand. Some really nice mixed beech and podocarp forest, a cave, and plenty of stream crossings over the course of the walk.
    Music by me

Way back in the late 1970's we dropped in from Plateau Road, off the Napier-Taupo, for a weekend trip. Less track and more river walking back then. It was so wet and the old upper Whirinaki hut was full so we camped in the cave. Our route out I think was via Te Wairoa and back up onto the Plateau.

That's awesome. It's still a rough area now, can only imagine how it was back then!

    Excellent video, as usual. 👍🏿😊
What month did you go there please?
I am planning on doing a tramp in the forest for a few days, and had picked up a DOC pamphlet with the Whirinaki huts and campsites recently.
Tonight I came on here to look for videos of tramps in there and yours came up first.
It looks amazing, and reminds me of my childhood and teen years back in the 1960s and 70s! 😍
    Great music 🎶 too. 👌🏿

Many thanks! This was in August. Beautiful but cold and rivers were quite high, so I'd much prefer this route in summer! Would highly recommend any of the ones I've done so far though, absolutely stunning and can't wait to go back.

@@ReviloNZwalks awesome, thank you so much. 😊
I have kept day hiking around the Bay of Plenty area through the winter with a local group I created on fb and it has been fantastic!
My buddy and I are planning on doing Waikaremoana next month.
I don't have any decent camera gear or editing suite so I sometimes just load up very short, raw, unedited videos from my bush hikes. I have just recently started doing this and I will continue. 😊

@@ReviloNZwalks lol, I'm binge watching tramping and bushcraft videos for these three days of lockdown! 😂

@@GypsyGirl317 That's awesome to hear! Nothing wrong with that. I prefer raw videos just showing how it is and letting nature do the talking, so will keep an eye on your channel! Documenting my trips has been valuable for me to look back on for my own enjoyment

@@dan0987654321dan Many thanks. We turned off before Murupara and it was a pretty long forestry drive in. We exited through to SH5 which is a better access option. Still quite a labyrinth either way. Glad my mate navigated this drive haha
