Good job doing your first overnight hike, good idea doing it with a big group of people. Nice track, well maintained. I had never heard of it, may have to give it a go one day. Great looking hut, and I liked to look of the little clearing it was in too. Looks like some people paid extra for their tickets though! Nice to see a couple of whio.
Yes, I wondered who'd gone the extra hog and bought green tickets! I think the confusion comes from the fact that the hut is shown as a 'SERVICED' hut on the DOC website, but in the actual hut description it states the fee is $10 per night.
Well done Michelle. You have taken another step toward your goal of walking the TA. Dont give up now!! Keep up working on it there is a lot to learn there is a lot to experience. When one day you walk the TA and finish, your feeling of accomplishment will be huge as it is for all who do it. It is a feeling of knowing that you can overcome many things and a feeling of understanding yourself better. The way anyone walks a long through hike is the way someone eats an elephant (one bite at a time) that is one step at a time and one day at a time. And you can do that!! You are so close now, in later live you will have a feeling of defeat if you give up. I say good on your Mum for going with you and encouraging you. Dont give up. Tomorrow is another day
Thanks for your encouragement Lindsay. Thanks also for your e-mail (which I have received!). I have a lot on at the moment, but look forward to continuing the conversation with you shortly :)
I'm so glad to see you out with friends on an overnighter Michelle. I've been tramping with clubs for years but find being alone in the bush can be quite daunting, particularly at night. You, and only you will know when you are ready for the next challenge, so ease yourself step by step to get where you want to be and don't try to force yourself too much, just keep revising your goals. We all want you to succeed. I've done a lot of solo travelling around New Zealand, recently in a camper van, but I always make sure there are other people I can trust when I stop at night. That way I've made some wonderful new friends. Kia haha kiwi Gypsy.
Thanks for the support Robin, I'm confident that on my next adventure I'll make some great friends right from the outset. It's very daunting, but if I don't do it I'll never know :)
Congratulations on completing your first overnight hike. Proud of you for putting yourself out of your comfort zone. I hope you still go through with the TA.
Well done. Hopefully, you will now have the tramping bug. Maybe worth trying one or two of the Great Walks before the TA. I did the Waikaremoana in early February a couple of years ago and loved it, Very few people on the track but enough to realise that you are not alone if things go wrong. I enjoyed your video, thank you.
Thanks so much for your very kind comments. not sure about my experience level, but I suppose TA will either make or break me! Look forward to having you follow along on my adventure. Happy Hiking :)
Oops, I see that you are going for the TA and already have considerable amount of tramping experience. I’ve only just come across your inspiring videos. Many thanks and good luck for the TA.
Nice work Michelle! I maintain it was a very worthwhile experience, one we're glad we did with you, and also one that absolutely challenged some of us physically. For me it highlighted the need to ensure you have the right gear to stay warm and dry - word to the wise, don't borrow a sleeping bag that you don't know the warmth rating of. You are right about some of us not appreciating the beauty, I was mostly concerned with putting one foot in front of the other and staying vertical, and didn't get to see as much as I perhaps could have. Lucky you made this video so I could see what I missed! We'll do it again, but let's do a day trip next time though, ok? :-) xx
Waw, this is beautiful.

Done a lot of hunting in that area in the late 50s and 60s lots of animals around.
We didn't see too many, but I can see what you mean! Beautiful area.

Me too! I'm confident it will happen, it's just a question of 'when' now. But I will keep you guys in the loop :)

Was great to have you all along regardless :) Thankyou all for indulging in my fantasies! xoxo
