    Pathfinder Gnomes are, hands down, the best take on gnomes in a TTRPG ever. And I'm glad to see a build using two of my favorite three gnome Ancestry feats!

    You don't need to go Mauler for this, Barbarians get Whirlwind Strike natively at level 14. Still a great concept though I play a gnome Barbarian with Marshal already and its a great time!

    That's a really cool build. Also nice to see Gnomes get some attention. I've always ignored them in D&D but in Pathfinder their abilities and Lore is awesome.

    a bit late, but maybe you should consider a dual-wielding barbarian? One wielding a scizore in his off-hand. It's not agile, and it has the parry trait, which means you can use it to give yourself a +1 to AC as if raising a shield. And with twin parry, that's a +2. You can take the Dual-weapon warrior dedication and get all the necessary feats. If you use a war axe in your main hand you still get the sweep feat that's useful when using whirlwind strike, but in situations where you are facing a single boss, you can use dual-wielding feats to really put the hurt on him.
    You can also take moment of clarity and ranger dedication to get flurry. Hunt prey is concentration, so you can't use it while raging unless you use MoC, but it lasts as long as the prey is alive, you only need to activate it once against a boss and may even activate it outside of combat.

    You don't need Mauler for this. Barbarians can learn Whirlwind Strike at 14 which is the same thing. But sooner if you delay Giant's Lunge to 16.

    Not only that, but Wellspring
    Gnomes can have access to the Shield cantrip, which also works without free hands while giving +1 AC and the Shield Block reaction with a Hardness that surpasses Sturdy Shields at all levels.
    This Shield Block will only works once per combat, there's that, and you can't cast the spell while Raging because it lacks the Rage trait, but you can use before using Rage and mantain it during your first turn. Pairing the +1AC, Shield Block and your Temp HP from Rage it can be a pretty good first turn IMO. But obviously, Giant Barbarians are looking for damage first.

    • @LegendaryCMD
      @LegendaryCMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      right there with you on all this. the shield spell blocks a lot of damage!!

    • @jg-wb3vm
      @jg-wb3vm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you take moment of clarity you can attack and then cast shield for 2 actions. Although, shield block and fortuitous shift each take a reaction which means you can only use one or the other.
      Since mauler doesn't really give you anything that the barbarian class doesn't, I made my character with the bastion archetype. Bastion gives you abilities to raise a shield as a reaction and another feat gives you an extra reaction just to shield block. So you could raise your shield with your third action and then fortuitous shift and shield block that same turn. If you don't raise your shield you could still raise it as a reaction and shield block with your free action. I think this gives a little more flexibility.

      @LegendaryCMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jg-wb3vm I love that! I think giant instict might be a great tank sub class. Since your single action attack deals so much extra rage damage you can get away with just spending one action a turn attacking. Then use the other two actions to raise a tower shield and take cover. With the extra size and reach from giant instinct and an attack of opportunity here and there, I would just skip shield blocking and go for the high ac. You could still mix bastion or sentinel in there too, I don't know. Seems fun to me.

    • @jg-wb3vm
      @jg-wb3vm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LegendaryCMD yup! We just started fist of the ruby phoenix and this is the character I made. The ap starts at level 11 and the dm gave us the free archetype option. I started with the fighter archetype for some power attack, then into bastion for the shield options and next will be sentinel for some full plate. Session 1 went well, can't wait for the rest. Thanks for your great videos, they are a major sorce of inspiration.

      Does this build even work with any other heritage? Because the level 13th feet requires an innate arcane or occult spell and you would need 2 extra feats if you're not a Wellspring.

    Kind of a bummer that tiny creatures with the giant instinct can only wield weapons one size bigger and not large sized weapons. Would have liked to play a 1 foot sprite swinging a 10 foot pole arm, but I suppose there needs to be some traces of believability in a fantasy game. Still, at least they can grow to large/huge size!

    Why take mauler into Avalanche Strike when Barbarian already gives Whirlwind Strike?

  • @smile-tl9in
    @smile-tl9in ปีที่แล้ว

    "It's as good as a sturdy shield" half as good. When you use the sturdy shield you don't need to make a flat check. Granted the sturdy shield might not be able to be used every turn due to damage

    Very cool build.
    This may not be worth your time but I was wondering how much damage you gain with a better charisma/feint roll for a Scoundrel Rogue over having a higher strength or dexterity.

  • @noamto
    @noamto ปีที่แล้ว

    With which heritage do you use this? The 13th level feat requires an innate occult or arcane spell, and only Wellspring can get this, unless you invest 2 more feats into the illusion sense line.

    The unexpected shift ability would be limited by it being a reaction, so usually only once around.

    Actually looking at the same build, but using a weapon with versatile damage trait, sense they most likely will not be finding many Large weapons
