When I saw A-rod's home run clear the fence in game 2 of the 2009 ALDS I turned off the TV and didn't watch any baseball until the next spring training. That's a complete 180° turn of emotions from when I was at game 163 a few days earlier
I was at that game and I remember the stadium for Arod’s and Tex’s home runs went absolute bonkers! What a night it was to be a Yankee fan especially at the stadium!
Add the pain of postseason Twins failure with the Wild and Vikings not getting to their championship games/series and you're in for the experience of a lifetime.
@@PossumBuddy420 that's fair. However, there's been a lot of heartbreak getting there. If you're into nerdy football stuff, SecretBase did a video series on the Vikings!
What's crazy is that since 2004 every other team in the division has gone to the WS with Chicago and KC winning it. Also since 2004: -Seattle made the playoffs and won a series -Boston, ChiSox, and Cubs, who were still considered cursed, all won the WS -EVERY team but Cincinnati won at least 1 postseason series (Yes even the Marlins, Pirates, and Padres won a series)
The Pirates never really won a series of more than one game in this timeline though. (Is the one-game 2013 Wild Card considered a series?) I would've put in the last statement. "Yes even the Marlins, NATS, and Padres won a series) considering how cursed that franchise was until 2019.

The post-2009 Yankees look so mortal against everyone except the Twins in the playoffs. But against the Twins they look like an indestructible juggernaut
My first question is “why must the world keep punishing Twins fans by covering the 18 playoff losses.” Then, I realized the correct question is “why must I punish myself and watch a deep dive into every single loss”
Also, this is true of the other most notable Minnesota team, the Vikings. They just made a multi part video on Secret Base about it. MN sports has been cursed for a good long time. And only the incredible high quality of the people of MN could withstand this type of abuse without raining punishment down on their teams.
With the pitching the team has this year I have faith they will actually break the curse this year, the hitting is coming around when it needs to as well. But... as a lifelong Minnesota fan I would not be shocked if this streak moves on to 20 losses in a row after this year. Even our Timberwolves are able to win some games when they make the playoffs haha
Am I the only one who came back and watched this video after our WC round win this week?! So much easier to process now that it’s over, but yeah that sucked. Playoffs are dumb, but Tuesday and Wednesday this week were great!
You have to realize - this doesn't just apply to baseball. Look at our other sports teams - the Wild are a constant first-round exit in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Timberwolves are perennial bottom-dwellers, and the Vikings have an almost greater history of playoff failures and chokes. This entire state has been cursed - not with bad teams mind you, but with the most wreched postseason/playoff luck in sports history that I can imagine. I'm a 27 year old woman who hasn't seen my team win a conference/league let alone a title in my lifetime. All I know is pain.
They started a budget level, minor league washout, part time Über driver against a 103 win 300 million dollar payroll franchise with 27 world championships. Not only was it an expected outcome but it was actually laughable how any professional sports organization would go with that option and still employ the same executives to this day. That’s the story of the Twins in the 21st century, arrogance, stupidity, extreme delusions and incompetence at every level of the organizational depth chart. At least in the last 2 years they seem to be changing their ways with drafting and pitching development. The owner is a limp wrist, dead fish eye having non-baseball fan, so any accountability has to come from within the GMs office itself. They’ll win a World Series in spite of management. Not because of them.
If they win, better be something memorable. I can see them winning a walk off in game 2 of WC game, then go back to lose game 3. It would be their baseball version of the Minneapolis Miracle or what Seattle did last year in the Wild Card. Which might be their opponents this year.
We inherited the curse of the bambino from the red sox. As soon as we give them david ortiz in 2002, the playoff loss streak begins in 2004 right before the red sox break the curse 😐
At least you've had multiple Red Wings, Tigers, and Pistons championships since then. Plus Michigan football and Spartans basketball. Minnesota has two men's championships in over 200 pro seasons which is cosmically bad. Also, as a Timberwolves fan (only 2 playoff series wins in 34 years + worst winning percentage of any "Big 4" team), I can say with certainty its 10x easier "cheering" for a team that just sucks for decades (ex. Detroit Lions) and has little hope vs cheering for teams that get to the playoffs regularly and always choke (i.e. all MN men's pro teams sans T'Wolves). With cheering for perpetually bad teams, you just learn to laugh through it and there's no drama, anxiety, or nerves. The "heartbreak" I've experienced with the Wolves is 1/10th the amount I've experienced with the Wild, Twins, and Vikings.
This has basically been the story for MN sports as a whole. There has been an astronomical 50+ playoff appearances in all sports without one team ever even making the championship. A record that is more than double any other state in sports history.
In terms of years, the Twins previously had an approximate 21 years between playoff wins. 1965 World Series Game 6 to 1987 ALCS Game 1 (7 losses : 1965 Game 7, swept by O's in 1969 & 1970 ALCS). The only difference from that streak and the current one dating back to 2004 ALDS Game 1 is that Minnesota only made the playoffs twice before winning the World Series in 1987 ... As painful as it was to watch, this was very well put together and entertaining.

Nice touch putting the Transformers Cybertron opening theme into the video. And even as a Yankees fan, this is just insane. I don't think i have ever seen a team destroy another in the Playoffs so thoroughly. Also for loss #1, Jeter was the winning run, he had to go back to 3rd on the ground rule double.
I’ve spent most of this same time futilely rooting for a sad, pathetic Padre team that usually got its teeth kicked in by the Cardinals (seriously, we lost eleven straight playoff games to them until we FINALLY booted them to the curb in 2020…only to get spanked by the Dodgers…but, oh My God, THAT ended so wonderfully last year I did not even care we missed the pain of getting defenestrated by the Astros in the World Series…)….but, THIS?? Oh man, I so very much feel for my fellow sufferers in Minnesota!

Last playoff win for the Twins, TH-cam wasnt born, Vikings coming off a gut wrenching collapse this time by Nathan Poole, and very 1st year of major college football conference realignment of the 21st century as it was Miami and Virginia Tech's first year in the ACC coming over from the Big East.

MN sports fandom is unending pain and unrelenting disappointment across every sport. people have no idea. Fun fact: Since 1992 (year I was born lol) EVERY other "4 sport market", of which there are 13 including MN, has not only been to, but has won at least 1 championship across football, baseball, basketball, or hockey. Minnesota has not MADE AN APPEARANCE In a championship, in any sport. Its difficult to articulate how sad this really is. Millions of Minnesotans have been born, lived, had dreams and families., and died without ever having even had a chance to root for their home team.
As a Twins fan that had the pleasure of watching all 18 of these games (well, started them all, shut off some blowouts), this video is pain. Only silver lining is being born in 81 and having faint memories of 87 and some memory of 91.
Unrelated to baseball, but I can relate to one of my sports team having a ridiculous losing streak that lasted years. I am an Edmonton, Alberta native who bleeds for the Oilers of the NHL (they had a decade without making the playoffs while I was growing up in a league where 16 TEAMS make it every year, big ouch), and the Elks of the Canadian Football League. The Edmonton Elks have been historically awful since the 2019 season and set a North American Pro Sports RECORD for consecutive home loses this year with 22. Thats almost 3 whole seasons of home games and as a season ticket holder I was at every single one of them. But when they finally did break the streak last month, I have never felt more thankful to watch a home win than I had in my entire life. I like to believe that loyalty to your team does get rewarded one way or another. Enjoying a single win that much also taught me that not winning a championship doesn't mean you can't enjoy the small moments. With that said, to answer the question posed at the end of the video, stay loyal and remember what the team means to you and the city, losing that legacy over 18 playoff games? No thanks! So Twins fans, when they do break through, celebrate like its the world series and enjoy it!
The Yankees have brought nothing nothing but pain to every human that lives in the city of Minneapolis. Edit: Oops. Looks like I done goofed. I called Minnesota a city when it’s the entire state. 🤣
Ah, I can explain it for you, it is simply the way of Minnesota professional men's sports. Look at the recent Secret Base Vikings docuseries, a similar tale of suffering. Success leading directly into the most soul crushing loss imaginable over, and over, and over again.
I envy all the other Twins fans who have faith in this team this postseason. I'm completely convinced we're gonna get swept again and make that losing streak 20 games in a row.
13 of the 18 being against the Yankees is hilarious! Also equally hilarious is that A-Rod who couldn't hit in October came up with so many of the big hits against the twins.
John Olerud, Joe Nathan, Brad Radke, Kevin Brown maybe even Johan... I'm two minutes into this vid, and these guys can already form an Underrated Hall of Fame amongst themselves.
that brian duensing start was extra frustrating because while he had a shocking season for us as a rookie, he was just that, a rookie and we threw him out there for Game 1 vs the yankees and to make matters worse his home away splits were DRASTIC his ERA was 2.7 at home and 4.8 on the road. he had no business starting that game with only 9 career starts under his belt
It sucks to be too young to remember 87 or 91 but old enough to remember the real shit of the 90s just to get a glimmer of hope starting in 2000 all to end in the nost impossible feat in playoff sports. Minnesota truly is Losersville,USA when it comes to sports and it fucking sucks
There are many interesting and unusual curses in baseball. The Twins have got to be the victims of an as yet unnamed curse. That’s the only thing anyone can really describe it as.
25:25 I watched that entire game and I STILL DON’T KNOW how someone with Sergio Romo’s playoff history does not know how tight of a zone the ump called that day. Least I also forgot Baldeli pitch hitting the worst player off the bench for what would have been the best player off the bench. Even I could tell you Garver was going to struck out.

Edit: Oops. Looks like I done goofed. I called Minnesota a city when it’s the entire state. 🤣
Especially when they find out Minnesota is a city 😏🤣
@@readrothbard153 I just noticed that, and changed it.
@@UHOH_415 your overall point is spot on though... i hate the yankees for the pain they've wrought!
At least they won’t be playing the Yankees in the postseason this year.
The streak is at last OVER! And they won a playoff series for the first time since 2002!
Ah, I can explain it for you, it is simply the way of Minnesota professional men's sports. Look at the recent Secret Base Vikings docuseries, a similar tale of suffering. Success leading directly into the most soul crushing loss imaginable over, and over, and over again.
What’s sad is that the Twins are the most successful franchise in minnesota history
Mlb powers pros was a goated game with a goated soundtrack. I wish the franchise would start doing american releases again 😢
As a Yankee fan I’m rooting for Minnesota to do something
I envy all the other Twins fans who have faith in this team this postseason. I'm completely convinced we're gonna get swept again and make that losing streak 20 games in a row.
13 of the 18 being against the Yankees is hilarious! Also equally hilarious is that A-Rod who couldn't hit in October came up with so many of the big hits against the twins.
As a tiger fan I am in awe of even seeing a franchise play 18 playoff games 😂
As a Yankees fan I’m happy that they finally won a Playoff Series, they showed that the blue jays were frauds again in the wild card
The power pros background music is a kind of nostalgia I didn’t know I needed
MLB POWER PROS SOUNDTRACK 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️
Appreciate the mlb power pros music! Still waiting for another mainline title to be translated to English. Success mode is goated
John Olerud, Joe Nathan, Brad Radke, Kevin Brown maybe even Johan... I'm two minutes into this vid, and these guys can already form an Underrated Hall of Fame amongst themselves.
THE POWER PROS MUSIC GAVE ME SO MUCH NOSTALGIA
that brian duensing start was extra frustrating because while he had a shocking season for us as a rookie, he was just that, a rookie and we threw him out there for Game 1 vs the yankees and to make matters worse his home away splits were DRASTIC his ERA was 2.7 at home and 4.8 on the road. he had no business starting that game with only 9 career starts under his belt
.....and ARod owns the Timberwolves now lmao
In 2003, the year before the streak started, the Twins also got eliminated by the Yankees in the ALDS 3-1.
Is that the opening for Transformers: Cybertron at 19:12?
Can't sneak that past me
I seriously can noit believe the 2019 Twins team didn't do more. That team was legitimately stacked.
They needed to pick up another starter. Having an Uber driver pitch game 2 is a bad sign.
I remember listening to the last win on the school bus coming home with a pocket radio. I am 33 now.
There are many interesting and unusual curses in baseball. The Twins have got to be the victims of an as yet unnamed curse. That’s the only thing anyone can really describe it as.
24:57 we get it we get it…Minnesota sucks, the sports franchise, the state…the whole lot of it.
As an avid watcher of both this channel and Hivemind, I loved the use of the graydon/dignan clip
Yankess vs Twins all time in the postseason:
Yankees: 16 Twins: 2
The Yankees against the Twins since 2002, 118 - 44 (including the game played when I typed this 5/15/2024)
Oh man, I remember watching the last Twins playoffs win as a junior in high school with my buddies!
I’m 36 now. 💀
