I had the honor of seeing Rickey collect his 3000th hit live at Tony Gwynn’s last game and when he held up that bat plaque even at 6 years old I knew I was seeing something truly special. What an absolute legend!

Ted Williams was pure baseball, Mays, Brock, Musial, all of the absolute legends, they all personify the game in one way or another, Rickey's right there. It's just in his bones.

I was born in the 60's and had the pleasure of seeing some of the greatest ballplayers who ever played the game. Let me tell you this, Rickey Henderson was one of the greatest I ever saw. Always exciting, and never disappointed. Whenever he came up to bat, you just knew something was gonna happen.

Those late 80s A's teams with Canseco,McGwire, Henderson,Henderson,Stewart,Eckersley etc were so fun to watch. Probably still my favorite team to watch ever even with the offensive explosion of the 90s and early 00s. With Ricky and the Bash Brothers coming up never wanted to miss a pitch. Canseco might be the most exciting strike out of all time. Even when he did if it wasn't looking the violence of the swing alone was still exciting he tried to absolutely kill the ball with every swing. The attitude of the team was great. Stewart with his low hat and intimidating stare. Ricky and his little ticks and mannerisms with the iconic neon green Mizuno batting gloves. Shame they only pulled 1 title out of 88 89 and 90 seasons. Even then the year they won it I remember watching Canseco cross home plate then the screen started shaking and went black. Giant earthquake while playing the Giants in the Series. Year prior up in the bottom of the 9th an injured Kirk Gibson hobbles up and hits a walk off home run setting the tone for the entire series. If he doesn't hit that there's a good chance the series goes a different way. Anyway the point is even when they lost it there was still a crazy historic moment involved. Loved that team. Dave Parker, Walt Weiss, Carney Langford, Terry Steinbach, Mike Moore, Bob Welch on top of others I already mentioned.

wow at age 40 with the mets he hit 315 which is the 2nd highest number of his career although he only played in 121 games he had 526 plate appearances and 438 at bats i think that would qualify.....what a legendary 25 year career wow so insane.....

Rickey Henderson was one of my idols as a child. He pushed me to want to be a better ball player, and to learn to be a better base runner. I miss his style of play, and the running game, in general. I was a kid during the Henderson, Eckersley, Bash brothers era and man it was exciting. Obviously Rickey leading off was must see tv back then. I feel so lucky I got to see the man play. If I'm building a lineup of all time greats he's making it and leading off for me 1000%

You all didn't see this man play. He was, by far, the best leadoff hitter EVER. Oh, he was on the " juice" but so was 90% of MLB. Still, just crazy how good he was. I did NOT like him at the time, but grew to appreciate him and his contributions. He walked, stole bases, hit leadoff Homers, hit for average, disturbed pitchers, and was just awesome.

wow at age 40 with the mets he hit 315 which is the 2nd highest number of his career although he only played in 121 games he had 526 plate appearances and 438 at bats i think that would qualify.....what a legendary 25 year career wow so insane.....

Rickey Henderson was one of my idols as a child. He pushed me to want to be a better ball player, and to learn to be a better base runner. I miss his style of play, and the running game, in general. He is definitely one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and extremely underrated, especially how the sport is today. You did an a great job on this video, thanks for sharing!!!

I had 2 posters in my bedroom growing up. Rickey and Kirby. The same reason for both; their heart for the game. I will forever remember these guys for why baseball is the greatest sport ever invented.

I would only put Kobe Bryant ahead of him. And I was born and raised in California he is the most iconic legendary person ever in Oakland

You all didn't see this man play. He was, by far, the best leadoff hitter EVER. Oh, he was on the " juice" but so was 90% of MLB. Still, just crazy how good he was. I did NOT like him at the time, but grew to appreciate him and his contributions. He walked, stole bases, hit leadoff Homers, hit for average, disturbed pitchers, and was just awesome.
