Keep up the great work.
I just set up my new Frabil Aegis in the basement. My 3yr old daughter came down to check out Dada's cool, new fort. We were both sitting inside with doors and windows closed eating icecream. I set my phone on a bucket and put on one of your laker ice fishing videos from last year and you were inside the exact same shelter. It was surreal! The cold cement felt like ice through my boots and I was dreaming of my upcoming laker trip in early January. Great video and thanks for the augmented reality!!

Definitely heavier but way more comfortable. I love that when the ice is clear you can see everything below you whereas mine has a floor in it.

VERY NICE.....I have to say those rainbow beads look awesome. I only have black and gold ones. I do however see some of the rainbow beads fixing to be ordered. Great video as always.
These rainbow beads are where it’s at for attractor/searching patterns. I orient them in specific ways depending on what I’m trying to accomplish…a baitfish imitation might get dark on the top, light in the bottom. I like to keep the amber/orange on top for thin mints simply because it looks awesome and inspires confidence (which is 50% of the battle). A rainbow bead adds a perfect accent to something like a hare’s ear or a black woolly bugger. It’s obviously not going to work for every situation (sometimes they want a more subtle nymph or a straight black bugger), but it’s good to have a few of them kicking around when you know you’re gonna be scouting.

I have been using some of these kinds of patterns and tying then on regular nymph hooks and using them in lakes and having good luck with them. This one will be used in couple weeks! Thanks again.
Yeah... nymphs like this are super easy to tie and really effective. It is so easy to change the look and feel just by changing the dubbing and bead colors.
Clear, concise, love the demo.I also like tying simple nymphs which can be varied for color and/or weight for mostly tightline nymphing in CT and northern NH. Thanks.
I really like the videos you’re producing. A friend of mine in the late’70’s taught me nymphing on the San Juan River and he used 20# test and a semi taught line with a brassy. It was lots of fun but time has taken me away from those basics and your videos are bringing me back. It’ll take a while to see all your videos but I’m working on it
That's awesome! Welcome to the channel! Enjoy your time while here... there is a lot of fly fishing with a focus on Euro and small stream wild trout in the last several years. I'm working hard at a whole series of Euro Nymphing videos now! Hope to have the first one out in a few weeks!
Love the simple ties.... I fly fish in Australia in our high country streams and getting into using these style of nymph ... currently using standard nymph set ups rather than the euro rods...
Thanks! The giveaway on this video was done a long time ago. I do have them for sale on my site but they go quickly! i had 20 up there earlier this week and there are 2 left I think.
Great video your content is amazing. I cannot explain how much you have helped me as a beginner fly fisher/euro nympher/fly tyier. How often do you change flies when you are out euro nymphimg?
Thank you and I'm glad you're learning a lot! If I'm catching fish I'm probably not changing. Most of the time I change it's because I'm figuring out the right weight of flies for the water or I'm not getting bit on one or both flies. Once I dial in on flies that are working well I'll stick with them.
Thanks for sharing your video on the ice dub nymph. However please do a video explaining the length of euro nymph leaders. With details of where the fly line extends in your rod or on the real during euro nymphing. Does fly line hang out the end of the rod or does it stay on the real while nymphing. I have heard both?? Some say your fly line never leaves the real and some say it extends slightly out of your last guide. And however it is could you explain the length of the leader. Thank you
Hi Todd... Have you seen my Euro Nymphing Series? I go through it in detail. At the end of Volume 1 I go through using a fly line versus a mono rig and in Volume 2 I go into detail on my Euro Nymphing Leader Setup and Micro Leaders. Here is the play list of the Euro Nymphing Series: th-cam.com/play/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m.html Here is the short version. If you use a fly line specific to Euro Nymphing then you typically have some line out of the tip of the fly rod or maybe in the guides of the rod depending on how far away you're fishing (length of the cast). Many people do not want to buy a Euro Nymphing fly line... so they us a mono rig. If you're using a mono rig that can be attached to a normal fly line and you never want a normal fly line off the reel when Euro Nymphing... it is too heavy and causes many problems. I would watch Volumes 1 and 2 to start and that will really help you! Then watch the rest of the series as there is a ton of great information that will help you be successful!
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I have went through the whole entire series. However I just did not quite understand where the Fly line ends and where the mono takes over. I wasn’t sure if the fly line should extend out past the tip of the rod or should stay fully on the real while nymphing. I think after watching several videos?? The Fly line should always stay on the real and everything going through your guides should be mono until you reach your actual leader with the Sighter. When I think about it it seems that would give you the most sensitivity and the least amount of sag or slack line between the Rod and the Fly’s. Thank you again for getting back and if I’m on the right track please let me know. I appreciate all of your videos.
Sometimes I find that if you bend the front of lead wire parallel to the shank it will fit up under the bead to help keep it in place. Or if there is a slot in the bead, you can pull the thread into the slot and then wrap it (it will spin the bead) inside the bead and creating a thread stop; when the bead stops spinning easily, you can move the thread out onto the shank and then do the lead wire per usual.
I’m not commenting for the giveaway but to say thank you for the video. I love tying my own flies and am always inventing variations. Also prefer simple flies which fish well. Euro nymphing was a game changer for me. I’m in Melbourne Australia and our fishing season opens in 2 weeks.Cannot wait to try some of these flies.
Awesome! I love small stream brookies! I have lots of brookie videos from the ADKs and VT. check out the foam caddis we tie if you haven't seen it. I make the fly specifically for small stream brookies. th-cam.com/video/HmqzGIcy5zo/w-d-xo.html
I fish in the UK love to try these great looking flies.I could also send you 6 of my best euro nymph patterns so you could then try on your local rivers and maybe find a great trans Atlantic nymph .Best regards Rob H
Sure! That's the beauty of fly tying! You can do anything you want! 🙂 Peacock Herl is a little delicate so if you use it be sure to use some sort of ribbing and counter wrap it (opposite direction as the Herl) so that it helps reinforce the Herl and you have less chance of the fly completely unraveling on you... If you use Peacock Herl and don't wrap something afterwards it will definitely unravel on you eventually and probably after one fish.
That looks so awesome. I’m actually getting into fly tying. Just opened my TH-cam soon I’ll be making fishing videos and what not. Just exploring new places doing anything outdoors. I love these kind of videos. Keep doing tying videos I enjoy them. Awesome giveaway I want in.
Yes.. I've tried them but honestly because I use lead in my flies the countersunk beads work really well when you push the lead up into the bead. So I've never really found a need for the slotted beads for the way I tie my flies. I do have some but almost never use them.
I’m really enjoying your channel and hope it goes from strength to strength. I’m looking forward to tying some of these nymphs to try out on my local river. One question: do you have a tip for identifying the flies you have tied that are heavier/ lighter when they are in your box? Or are you just super organised?
Ah... good question! I do keep my fly box fairly organized. I use rows in my fly box for certain flies and put my heavier flies toward the top and lighter flies toward the bottom. I have 12 flies in a row. It is easy to tell when I use different size beads but if I use the same size bead and varying levels of lead I'll actually pinch the fly to see how much lead I can feel in it if I don't know exactly.
Absolutely! The great thing about nymphing is that you don't have to figure out what is hatching and match it. If your fly resembles nymphs that live in those waters they'll work year round!
LOL... Uh... I should be but this storm just had me hating winter. I want a cold, snowless winter for ice fishing. Once there is snow on the ice I hate it. Might end up doing more winter fly fishing if there is too much snow on the ice.
@@AdiposePhin Yes it is! However most fish don't hold over. We were supposed to do a private fall stocking but it never happened because the hatchery was out of fish. :-\
@@stevemillington628 I don't guide steelhead because I'm not close enough to the rivers. I get out once or twice a year for steelhead myself. For Lake George ice fishing we do $250 for a 4 hour morning trip. How much ice time we get will depend on weather\ice conditions. Hoping for a good year like last year!
@@stevemillington628 I don't think we'll see any real ice near lake trout territory for a while. Usually mid-January is when we start to get safe ice (if we're lucky). Totally depends on temps, precipitation and wind conditions....
You can definitely catch steelies on nymphs although I usually go with a bigger black stonefly for steelies or a wooly buggers... or egg imitations (if fish are spawning).
To be honest... a lot of euro flies tend to be similar in nature. Change some materials or colors and you end up with a different fly. I actually stopped tying the frenchie for the most part and tie these instead. A frenchie is a pheasant tail body with a small dubbed hot spot. A frenchie will likley have a thinner body and less flash than this fly. Because this fly is dubbed for the whole body it tends to be a bit "buggier" and will provide more flash because of the material. The frenchie, tied with the same bead as this, may sink a little better because of the narrower and less buggy body. In the end they both work :)
I would avoid pheasant tail as tailing material. It breaks off too easily. Even when I tie pheasant tail-bodied flies where a tailing from the body material would be simple, I tie in wood duck flank. It better matches the natural and survives more fish.
I started to get into big articulated streamers for big trout but haven't really done much with them in a while. They are great in fall and spring. I also used to target pike\tiger muskie too but haven't in a while. Would love to do it again though! Thanks for the suggestion!

Clear, concise, love the demo.I also like tying simple nymphs which can be varied for color and/or weight for mostly tightline nymphing in CT and northern NH. Thanks.
Thanks! Most of the flies I tie are simple and effective! I have a few others on the channel if you haven't seen them.
Nice video, as I'm new to fishing I will be trying these out. Thanks for sharing.
Love the simple ties.... I fly fish in Australia in our high country streams and getting into using these style of nymph ... currently using standard nymph set ups rather than the euro rods...
Use what you have and enjoy the experience. If you get the chance to try euro, go for it.
very nice
Mice job. Hope to win one so I know what it's suppose to look like.. 👍
Like your video instructions, question. are you still giving away some of those awesome nymph’s in peacock ? Appreciate your time and effort. Db
Thanks! The giveaway on this video was done a long time ago. I do have them for sale on my site but they go quickly! i had 20 up there earlier this week and there are 2 left I think.
Hi - as you guys over the pond tend to use inches over metric is the 0.15 wire in inches or mm please? - love the looks of this nymph
The .015 wire is in inches. All of our fly shops here carry it that way.
Thanks I assumed it was based on the thickness in the video but sometimes when zoomed in you can't always tell. Thx
Very nice tie, how about some ice fishing flies and video using the same?
Good suggestion! I like that one. Thanks!
Here is the play list of the Euro Nymphing Series: th-cam.com/play/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m.html
Here is the short version.
Cool bug
Thanks! It catches lots of fish! :)
Great looking fly, would love to see a review on your Euro rods
Nice! I really like that idea! Thanks!
Do you ever use leach flies(marabou or squirl) when euro nymphing?
I haven't yet... but I want to tie some jig streamers like that (on the smaller side)
I swing pretty small leaches for trout, never tried them on a euro setup.
Awesome! Good luck!
Hey I’m a big fan of the small stream brook trout fishing. Particularly the southern Adirondacks, as that’s my home water.
Awesome! I love small stream brookies! I have lots of brookie videos from the ADKs and VT. check out the foam caddis we tie if you haven't seen it. I make the fly specifically for small stream brookies. th-cam.com/video/HmqzGIcy5zo/w-d-xo.html
Haha I’ve already seen them. That’s why I need more! I’ve got the itch but can’t scratch it until spring opens the season back up!
I fish in the UK love to try these great looking flies.I could also send you 6 of my best euro nymph patterns so you could then try on your local rivers and maybe find a great trans Atlantic nymph .Best regards Rob H
I really like that idea! I love finding and trying new flies!
@@roberthouse2329 Can you give me an email address? Probably want to keep mailing addresses offline. you can email me at bryan_spinner@yahoo.com
Great video - can we use peacock herl instead of dubbing?
Just tied two up to see how they hit in California. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! Good luck!
Do you ever use slotted beads ?
Yes.. I've tried them but honestly because I use lead in my flies the countersunk beads work really well when you push the lead up into the bead. So I've never really found a need for the slotted beads for the way I tie my flies. I do have some but almost never use them.
Hi from calgary Alberta Canada .your doing jigs could you do a jig using straggle string . thanx
Do these work all year long?
Absolutely! The great thing about nymphing is that you don't have to figure out what is hatching and match it. If your fly resembles nymphs that live in those waters they'll work year round!
This video is the most explicit on showing how to dub "Ice dub " that I've seen so far
That ice dubbing can be tricky... more ends up on the table than on the thread 😂 Spinning it tight is just about the only way to do it.
Are you getting amped up for some ice fishing? I need to stay motivated and get out there (not a fan of the cold weather fishing)
LOL... Uh... I should be but this storm just had me hating winter. I want a cold, snowless winter for ice fishing. Once there is snow on the ice I hate it. Might end up doing more winter fly fishing if there is too much snow on the ice.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany I read that the Kaydeross is open year round (most of it). Maybe if we get a nice 45 degree day I will do some exploring.
@@AdiposePhin Yes it is! However most fish don't hold over. We were supposed to do a private fall stocking but it never happened because the hatchery was out of fish. :-\
Like to see a beginning euro nymph if video.
How much is guided trips for jigging lake trout in lake George
Also do you do any steelie fishing
@@stevemillington628 I don't guide steelhead because I'm not close enough to the rivers. I get out once or twice a year for steelhead myself. For Lake George ice fishing we do $250 for a 4 hour morning trip. How much ice time we get will depend on weather\ice conditions. Hoping for a good year like last year!
White Dog Outdoors any word on ice conditions yet since the big storm Hague should be frozen within the next few weeks I would assume
@@stevemillington628 I don't think we'll see any real ice near lake trout territory for a while. Usually mid-January is when we start to get safe ice (if we're lucky). Totally depends on temps, precipitation and wind conditions....
White Dog Outdoors yeah I agree 100%
Steelhead on nmphs
You can definitely catch steelies on nymphs although I usually go with a bigger black stonefly for steelies or a wooly buggers... or egg imitations (if fish are spawning).
How is that nymph different than a frenchie?
To be honest... a lot of euro flies tend to be similar in nature. Change some materials or colors and you end up with a different fly. I actually stopped tying the frenchie for the most part and tie these instead. A frenchie is a pheasant tail body with a small dubbed hot spot. A frenchie will likley have a thinner body and less flash than this fly. Because this fly is dubbed for the whole body it tends to be a bit "buggier" and will provide more flash because of the material. The frenchie, tied with the same bead as this, may sink a little better because of the narrower and less buggy body. In the end they both work :)
Nice, tying videos are good but how about box organization ideas
Check out the Fly Selection videos in my Euro Nymphing Series. I think volume 2 or maybe volume 3 go through how I organize my fly box.
I would avoid pheasant tail as tailing material. It breaks off too easily. Even when I tie pheasant tail-bodied flies where a tailing from the body material would be simple, I tie in wood duck flank. It better matches the natural and survives more fish.
Would love to see some big muskie/pike streamers videos
I started to get into big articulated streamers for big trout but haven't really done much with them in a while. They are great in fall and spring. I also used to target pike\tiger muskie too but haven't in a while. Would love to do it again though! Thanks for the suggestion!
Anytime. I've muskie fished for 20 years but just getting into fly fishing and tying my own flies always looking for an opportunity to learn.
