What an incredible place! That was so cool you got to take a little tour of the inside of the beautiful blue locomotive, and I couldn't believe how huge that box car is! Looks like you had a great time, I bet you could go there for a couple days and still not see everything! Beautiful photos! Great video JP, thanks so much!
Really cool place I was there over 20 years ago, brings back memories. Also on that trip somewhat nearby a museum had an old sherman tank outside. It was open and I was able to sit inside and see all the old aging controls.
It's great to hear of so many who visited and enjoyed this place.

indeed i was there in the 70's when that PRR tuscan red E-7 was outside and painted a faded PC black. there was also a blue/grey/blk B&O rpo that was giving off some very BAD vibes, i absolutely refused to go near it, let alone sneak inside, the only other place i felt those weird hostile 'stay away' feelings were at ampere depot in east orange nj while working on NJT in the 80's before they finally tore it down... VERY bad place. always finding bodies in the old baggage labyrinths below. usually addicts who broke in to get 'high' . . MY job as a B&B carpenter was to board it back up. that was the only station i always went armed to. every time. but i digress.
Thank you for this video and greetings from Port Saint Lucie Florida ! As a kid I took the Pennsylvania from New York to Saint Louis on the Spirit of Saint Louis train with my parents at Christmas time.
Hi, it's a 86' boxcar and still used today. In Buffalo,NY. Norfolk Southern builded (1) even bigger than this but never put it to service. Been going here over 27 years now and over time the museum has let some locomotives go. There behind a couple years now because a 3-5 roundhouse is going up. Make sure if you go to there again, you eat at Dienner's restaurant on route 30 next to Dutch Haven!
Absolutely outstanding. Beyond well presented, we were last there back in the early 90’s with our 5 year old twins, stayed in the Red Caboose lodge, and it was magical! As a child back in the 50’s, my Mom and I rode behind the N&W J class between Suffolk Va and Western Va, and the fondest of memories! For whatever reason, my wife and I began to discuss this at dinner tonight, I went on TH-cam and found your video. Great use of music, narration, sharing of operational details, and just an absolutely fun time spent on our big screen, with a great sound system. Many thanks for your passion and gift of media orchestration! Bravo!
Thanks for the railway video JP definitely a great collection of amazing locomotives, love the conrail I think it was the blue deasel. The railway at the end is awesome and great fun, I would love to have a go. Thanks for taking me there!!😎🚂🚂🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧🇺🇦
Looks like things changed since 2019! Thanks for the tour! The HO scale layout at 33:30 was featured in Model Railroader a few years ago. It was someone's layout that was donated to the museum. Some of the places featured on the layout are Lewistown and some of the PRR bridges over the Juniata River. The coal warf on the layout is a representation of the one at Denholm, it was similar to the one you did a video on a few weeks ago near Amtrak.
This area that this covers is massive wow. I could spend all day in their. That is pretty cool you walk underneath a steam engine like 👍. Thanks for taking us around.
I love this museum vid. You are a video master that takes me to see what I will probably never see in person. You also give details I might not get if I was there. Thank you.
Wow really enjoy this especially knowing about when they started and ended. My favorite is the red one and conrail train.. Truly amazing some day i pay to go visit and check it out my self thank you so much for sharing.
Wow it's really turned into a nice place to visit since 1997 .it was still under construction when I was there last. on my bucket list to go back. Thank you. Great job
I was there a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. We also took the steam train. What is a shame is that currently the USA does not invest in trains. I do not know the motive
What an awesome place ...a train lover's paradise ! Love that they are preserving Railroading history in such an all encompassing and beautiful way . Especially loved the old iconic work horses , the little red caboose and #2233 "Conrail blue" locomotive . I know you and RJ were in RRHeaven : } You got some amazing shots .....beautiiful montage !
Awesome place JP! I love the steam, but my favorite is that Conrail GP30! I really like the GG1 too! I guess growing up seeing the GP30's as a kid made me like them so much! Awesome video! Thanks for bringing us along!
I also love the Conrail engine, so beautiful. Every piece is restored so beautifully. Can't get over the admission of 10 dollars, what a deal. I'm very familiar with Conrail who took over for CNJ. A line went from Ashley Yards up Casey Ave back of old Kmart right to Sheetz years ago. I moved from there tho enjoyed when the train came sort of often in 60s and 70s. Really enjoyed the video!!
when I was young it was fun to watch the Rock Island Rocket come by my house everyday it could really move down the rail .those were some of the best of times.
Didn’t get to see the 30th st station ticket board…….. was in Philly when they removed it, but was glad to see it there. (Mow repairman, so I work on the RR!!)
Point to be noted #1251 is a tank switcher that has a coal bunker behind the cab and a water tank on the outside of the boiler, unlike #26 at Steamtown which is a traditional steam locomotive with a tender for coal and water supply
Funny facts PRR L-1 2-8-2 520 from what I heard should be cosmetically restored soon or later The GG1 outside is PRR 4800 or Old Rivets and was the first GG1 and the only GG1 that wore Conrail blue
There's a Shay engine in Townsend TN. It's free to see. It's sitting out front of the museum. It's all free except for the gift shop. This engine actually runs! The gentleman that used to keep Dollywoods engines running, keeps this one running. The museum features logging in the great smoky mountains. The shay way good at pulling hills.
Mopar mitch it's still the quiet side of the smokys. Have you been there since they opened the by-pass around townsend? You up in the clouds. It's beautiful!
@@BlueButterfly201 My father is a heavy equipment operator, he actually worked building that bypass! He worked rebuilding River road several years ago also!
I've been a member there for years. Tip for the serious photographers, it's VERY dark inside especially on the west end of the building. They do allow tripods if you are considerate of other guests and that helps with the longer exposures that are encountered there. I've shot 35mm, medium format and large format film there with no issues. The outside rolling stock yard is a photographers paradise if you like texture, rust, metal parts, etc.
What a great vid! Al & me love watching trains and train stuff...you didn't dissapoint 😀 ...if your ever in NC, you'd enjoy the Spencer Transportation Museum....I can't get over how trim you look! Keep them vids a comin'!
Great video, and I'm glad you got to visit the museum! That's still something I need to do on a future Strasburg trip. They've got a great collection with a nice variety of trains. It's a shame the rain cut your time in the yard short. That Lehigh Valley RDC is one of my favorites that you can see from the road, and it's like the one we rode in last year. #860 is a Metroliner. They used to run on the Northeast Corridor at 100+ mph. They modified some of them as cab control cars that run through Paradise now. Speaking of which, can you imagine an old steam engine running through there even faster than today's Amtraks?! Must have been quite a sight to see! Love that Conrail diesel too! Conrail blue is seriously the most perfect color in the known universe. Glad you got to see that one firsthand.
One of the GG1 there crashed into a train station while in service and was pulled out and put back into service and was send to the museum to be saved.
A great video - I will have to make a visit from Canada later this year. However just one small point - the "officially recognised" fastest steam loco in the world is the Mallard pacific in the UK, not 7002. Apparently, near Elida, Ohio, the #7002 and her train was reported to have covered 3 miles in 85 seconds, and was clocked at 127.1mph. This would make the #7002 the fastest steam locomotive. The issue is that this speed was calculated by two separate observers at Elida and AY Tower. It is very inaccurate to calculate time and speed just by the signal registers. Also the average speed from Elida to Fort Wayne (the train's final stop) was only 68mph. So, it may be possible that it went that fast, but very dubious.
why the GE E60 is still outside taking rust as the only preserved model it desserves to be entirely restored as i rememeber its retirement i thought it will be restored in place
They use to have a central railroad of New Jersey camel back, it's a shame they are letting that k 4 stay out side and rot away that and the New York Central Hudson had history behind them!
