The gobies are fun to see. I have never kept them but have wanted to. Most people say they are hard to get to breed and require certain foods. I think the kitty litter makes all the difference for the water quality. I have never seen the eggs so keep us up to date on how it goes. Thanks for showing us. Have a lovely day!
I've heard the same thing exactly. But as you can see through the video, I feed them nothing but dry food, and they live in very hard alkaline water here in Florida with no salt added.
Those are some weird eggs for sure!! Being a Goby I would have thought they would be a shy cave spawner. I hope that Cory doesn't disturb that male to make him eat the eggs.
Thanks Dr Novak for sharing. Yes I agree with you 100%. I think it either has to do with the minerals in the kitty litter clay or the fact that the anoxic filtration absorbs the hormones and other waste products out of the water column which encourages the fish to spawn. My present goldfish are 5 years old and they have never spawned all these years nor did my previous fishes and I have been keeping fish for over 40 years. However, ever since I implemented the bcb bags this year, my goldfish have been spawning every 3 to 4 weeks like clockwork and I now have 4 batches of fry in the last 4 months alone. I can't thank you enough for enlightening me on the anoxic filtration system. It is truly amazing. My fish also appear a lot more healthy, alert, active and are less stressed out. And I am not saying this just to praise the system, these are actual observations that I have made after implementing the system this year.
Like I said a long time ago I had Goby's and nothing. Now I've had these for maybe a couple months and they're already spawning. There's something going on more than just food and prepping the fish for spawning.
Back in the 80' s i had angel fish in a 55 gallon with an undergravel filter. I ran the filter with a very underpowered air pump and a hob. I put in a piece of slate and they spawned over and over. You keep your water crystal clear, my guess, the plenum has a lot to do with water quality.
Hi Dr Novak ,that is a nice looking fish you have there. Will you let us know how the fry get on please ? I am sad for the fish who jumped out of the tank ,he should of hidden behind a plant instead. The anoxic Filtration system is really quite an amazing thing isn't it. We are really very lucky that you have chosen to share your knowledge with us amateur fish keepers. Thank you.
I did not know I had a spawning pair and they probably chased the third fish out of the tank by harassing it too much. The same thing happened with my parrot fish where two of them ( male & female) chased the third one so badly that I had to get rid of it.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums you know Dr Novak I didn't realise that fish get so aggressive with each other. I am glad you put the other fish somewhere else. I will have to keep an eye on my fish then when they reach maturity ! 🤔😔🐟🐠
Dr. Novak, when using a plenum, do you have to have an open top on the aquarium or is it safe to have the aquarium covered? Also, do you use an additional filter (with the plenum) for mechanical filtration only or do you not need the additional filter?
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Thank you so much for the response. The other and final question to you is to use an additional filter (with the plenum) for mechanical filtration only or do you not need the additional filter?
A biocenosis clarification basket is nothing more than a bag and/or basket filled with baked kitty litter, and usually it may have some Laterite add into the center of it.
Why though? It's so simple to make ourselves without a giant markup in price like they do in the fish stores. Like they do with filter floss for example. It's literally just poly fill quilt batting cut into smaller pieces and sold in a bag with a fish on it for a ridiculous price!
Wish I had a some of those purple spotted gudgeon

Your Goby is gorgeous. So cute and engernetic.
It’s a Gudgeon not a Goby, they are very similar but Gudgeons are from the Eleotridae family and Goby’s are from the Gobiidae.
Very cool to see. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for this nice bit of information

Your evidence just keeps piling up! Congratulations.
Much appreciated

It's the hobbyist choice whether they want their aquarium covered or non-covered. It will make no difference to a Plenum or a BCB.

🍞
What is BCB filter media? I googled and nothing came up.

You baked the clay kitty litter or straight from the box.
Why not sell the basket containing everything?

It's a gudgeon. Not a goby.
