    My opinion? Lovebirds have a mind of their own! Also, I really love your hillstream loaches! Your setup seems perfect - lots of flat-ish rocks, high flow, and a big footprint.
    EDIT: Also thank you for showing us the differences between the two- mine is definitely a male!

    I'd love to own any tank, but I can't afford, so I'll just enjoy yours when you show them to us. I like that misting habitat tank. It would be great fun to plant that, then put some fresh water shrimps in the water part, and maybe a small crab species which could also survive out of water by climbing on the growing plants once they've settled in. A hill stream tank would be a dream, especially if it could support a fairly rapid flow so that the fish could dart in and out of the current to grab food. It would make for a very active tank, and it would give the loaches an environment much more like that which they encounter in nature.
    The air fish is absolutely precious. Birds absolutely steal my heart, and love birds are among the best if you can tolerate the vocalizations (which I can). I've even had Fisher's over the decades, and they are usually so friendly and fun. They love lots of attention, and want to spend lots of time being the centre of your attention. I love birds of all kinds. They just get old for me, and I love to watch and tame wild birds so that I always have friends to greet me when I go outside. When you spend a lot of time with birds, you find that they all have their own dear little personalities. Even the wild ones do. My neighbours thin I'm barking mad, but so be it. I love all animals. It's just my quirk. I don't tell them that they're crazy for having lots of bling or fancy cars and whatever. So maybe have just a little patience for the things I find valuable?
    Love your tanks and all your critters, and I love the things you do with and for them. Keep up the wonderful work!

    First time seeing these interesting loaches, (never see them in aquarium store here, Toronto, Canada),. They clean up the algae in your river tank effectively. Do hope it is a pair so can reproduce. Love your 4K video. I have never had fish tanks grand like yours and never will, because I am 88 years old, so I watch yours. BTW, I do have a 10gal tank with a male Batte fish.

    Hi Kaity, Thanks for a great review of your river tank. I really love that look. I have algae eaters (no hillstream loaches unfortunately) - small plecos, Otocinclus, and even cherry shrimp, and they've done such an amazing job with the algae that I've felt the need to supplement. I blanch organic spinach from the grocery and feed that to them. Over night, a big wad of spinach will disappear. It turns out that even my albino Kribensis love the stuff. It might be a good supplement for the loaches. I did two different videos - one on blanching spinach and one on blanching zucchini on my Instagram channel. And this morning I just saw someone else's video on blanching carrots for shrimp. Might be worth looking into. And then there are always algae wafers or crisps. I know Bug Bites makes some. Have a fantastic day, and keep your amazing content coming.

    Loved this video. I really liked the waterfall tank. Looked so cool. My 10 year old grandson was helping me clean my 15 gallon fluval tank yesterday. While doing so he somehow leaned it forward on the rounded front and cracked it. Guess I’m going to be getting a new tank to replace it with. Think I my go to a 20 or 30 gallon as the replacement. I think Hill Streams are so beautiful. Remind me somewhat of stingray. Keep the great video’s coming for us. They are so beautifully done and informative.

    Great vid as per usual Katie. I love your river tank. I thought with Hillstream loaches you had to have them in threes, because they quarrel so much and to stop one picking on another. Have you ever thought about a small pea puffer tank?

    If you're going down nano marine tank I'd suggest you keep it very simple. A good simple nano would be the redsea nano tank although it's very expensive, or you can buy the tank and all the pieces needed separately. I'd say its about 1500 pounds which is about 3k Australian Dollars to set up a nano tank.

    They are a great addition to that type of tank and should love it, I've always liked them and have kept them many times in the past, I have to say with the algae you have done the right thing by cutting down on the lighting, you live a busy life style and your tank lights don't need to be on for so long ether, you should be able to time it so it is on white your at home and maybe just 6hrs a day at a lower light should be enough with those plant you have, with the filtration you have you shouldn't need to do so many water changes as well, you have floating plants in your sump that should take up a lot of nutrient and the plants in the tank will grow better with less changes, I'd just vacuum some of the sediment once every few weeks on the lower section and top up, that would be plenty for that large tank in my opinion, I have never used any products like that in a tank or pond, for the long term you just need to find a balance, I hope this helps another great video Thanks for sharing Kaity, it's looking nice 🙂

    Ive kept borneo suckers before, are those ones much different? Also that vivarium is basically a humidifier right? I can imagine brisbane summers wouldnt like even more water sources... Nice budgie!

      @Kaityscichlids  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they are a little bit different! They are often mistaken for each other. I think the main difference is the Borneo ones grow quite a bit bigger 🤔 And yes, the mister is like a humidifier for all the rainforest plants and mosses. My bearded dragon enclosure gets to like 30-40% humidity naturally here, but once you add water it can end up being like 70-80% 😬

    Buy some crossocheilus oblongus fish will help a lot and maintain your tank clean and healthy..

    I would always recommend naturally derived treatment for new introductions to the aquarium regardless. Bacteria is a very interesting thing. They are always present, though for a healthy aquarium that is stable they are often inactive due to the inhabitants having healthy immune systems, built up to the bacteria present in your system and low stress levels (this is the assumption I will make off the bat). A change in water chemistry or even the slightest bit of stress can suddenly change that (new fish new system). If you don't really have very expensive fish I suppose that is a risk one would take readily but its not worth it overall. Filling a bucket with tank water and putting something like melafix or for me preferably Fish Recover FW from brightwell aquatics into that bucket say no more than 1ml for 15-20 minutes with an airstone then add them to your tank. It will get rid of any external bacteria on that fish that might be newly introduced to the bacteria within your system. This small step goes miles for the overall health of your lovely setup. Again this is assuming that your tank inhabitants aren't extremely expensive fish (subjective) and its a middle ground approach. Adding one dose as well to the main tank on the same day you introduce the fish is an additional step. Following that up with a nice water change on day 2 to remove any newly shed stress coat of the fish and then business as usual after that. :)
    This has saved me much headache as I have had in the past, even with fish that have remained healthy for weeks in the shop whom I genuinely trust keep their systems very clean. These things just happen though when it comes to new bacteria introductions though being healthy fish in their respective system of origin.

    Go for something different with your collection, a heavily planted tank no co2. It can be any size you like. Or start a smaller planted tank first, build up the plants in it, they do a planted tank? :-)

    This is nice ! Btw i have a question... is it okay to put small loaches with boesmani? Or generally rainbow ?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as they're not small enough to fit in their mouths then they should be ok!

      My hillstream loach does perfectly well with my praecox rainbows. They don't occupy the same levels of the tank, so the they ignore each other. He only seems to be occupied with defending his little rock from cories and bristlenose and other hillstream loaches.

    Have you had any scares with your hillstreams going up and out of the tank? I've avoided adding them to my setup because I've heard many horror stories from fellow hobbyists in Perth. I've got a 120 Bioscape natural scape they'd be perfect in, but I don't want to come home and find them on the floor. They're expensive over here!

      Oh no 😱 I've got netted lids on the tank so it hasn't been a problem! But I have seen them get pretty close to the water surface from time to time

    Hey Kaity,
    Beautiful fish tanks.
    I am also in Brisbane and have some full size African Cichlids that I want to move to a more suitable home. I would love to donate them to you if you are interested. MSG me if interested.
