      Thanks Longshot, overall there was luck that went my way and I felt like I was fighting the TIR a bit at times trying to keep track but there were some good learning points to take from it. This flight motivated me to tweak my TIR profile a bit since then to make it work better for me.

    • @long5hot
      @long5hot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, especially with all the unusual placement of the metal framework etc in the P39. Watching you evade attacks while still maintaining enough energy to attack them on the overshoot, I was reminded of Clive Caldwell's being bounced by two Bf109s while flying a Tomahawk. He took numerous hits, but was able to shoot one of the attackers down and damage the other (a veteran ace Werner Schroer) enough that he had to disengage.
      He certainly was very lucky that day, as you were here, and as you said on another comment luck is essential against such superior odds, but luck is nothing without skill. Keep up the great work :)

    As someone who just started with IL-2 Sturmovik and flight sims in general, I'm in awe. I hope one day I'll be able to dogfight on the same level as you. Amazing videos.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's awesome to hear Mikifert! Flight sims can be a really rewarding experience as you'll feel like you're not making progress and suddenly one day you realise "Hey, I got this now!" Just focus on learning one airplane at a time, especially when starting out. I can try and answer any questions you have of course, but the community on the Il-2 forum is great and will give you endless amounts of advice as well! Hope to see you online sometime :-)

      Requiem is right, after 1000 hours of being a target you will suddenly "feel" out the planes and everything you need to do will be clear through the trial and errors that have developed your decision making

    Well done - presentation, as well as handling a situation against 2 fighters that are at least a half generation more advanced than the one you are flying. And, I like the P-39. The eternal quest to find something that stands still long enough to bloop a 37 mm pumpkin ball into it.

      @@RequiemsACTL Летаю на P-39 и стараюсь выжить в боях. Я сбиваю и меня сбивают. Рекорд сбитых на Кобре - 4 истребителя. Но это думаю случайность. Лично моё мнение, что истребитель плохо реализован в игре. Такое чувство, что у него тормозной парашют в заднице. Скорость не плохо, а ооочень плохо держит. Пушка М-4 слабая ! Мой рекорд - 4 попадания в Fw-190 и он ушёл. И ещё необоснованная раскачка самолёта по тангажу и крену. Слишком чувствительный. Кобра нравится, но она не соответствует, что о ней говорят ветераны. В игре двигатель и пушка слабые ! Полёты на P-39 многими вирпилами считается извращением. )))

Я также думаю, что в целом на всех самолетах существует проблема со слишком высокой чувствительностью и контролем, особенно в рыскании и тангаже.

    A bigger problem if both attackers are on the same comms and working together. Aircraft working as a team set the hostile up for the kill shot. It is possible to herd a victim by positioning and feint attack runs quite easily, if they don't understand what is happening.
    Being adept at aerobatic evades I'm usually the "Bait" fighter for my wingman / wingmen to whack whatever is failing to shoot me down.
    I once spent 34 minutes on the CloD - Blitz ATAG server keeping one of the top aces (Jg.4 Meyer) busy, along with his wingman flying defence circles (RAF Standard tactic to frustrate / thwart boom and zoom attackers as it is next to impossible to hit a plane flying in a defence circle from a boom and zoom attack plus risky). Anyhow after 5 minutes his wingman grew impatient and ended up going past my Hurricane as I came around, in my defence circle, and I PKed him. I then continued to frustrate repeated boom and zoom attacks for the next 29 minutes whilst on comms to a friendly Spitfire, flown by Count Orlok, who was closing on my position at extreme altitude. When Meyer was at the top of his climb Count Orlok swooped down and nailed him.
    It's a very old dogfight sim team tactic going back a long time. We've used it successfully on IL-2 GB too usually with 110's as they can be forced to turn tighter than the 109 and 190 plus have a higher dive speed with superior gun accuracy.

    It seems you weren't using the 5 minute emergency mode during the fight, more like the combat power mp with continuous RPM. You were low energy state anyway against those opponents, but maybe 3000 RPM and 51" would have given a bit more power for the prop hang to hit them better?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're right there Super Étendard, I'm a little more conservative than I probably should be on the power when I'm fighting as I hate breaking an engine. The extra power would have helped a little bit in some spots for sure. I think there was a good hit from the Fw towards the end as well which caused engine damage, so running emergency could have made the situation worse.

  • @JanMcQuack

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a nice plane to fly provided you keep the speed up. The P-39 and P-40 engines are a little too sensitive for my taste so I fly them a little too conservatively, but they are fun to fly them. It's soooo satisfying when you hit something with the P-39 37mm cannon...when you do hit them they STAY hit LOL

    You could do a video on team defence tactics such as the Lufberry Ring. I was flying one of 3 Blenheim on IL-2 CloD - Blitz 4.56 last week when we spotted 3 x 109's intercepting us. The flight lead immediately called for a clockwise Lufberry Ring and we kept this up until all 3 of the 109's had been shot down either by turret guns or by the forward BB gun in the left wing.
    In IL-2 GB (last summer) we formed a 5 x 110 Lufberry Ring and very quickly nailed a sucker who ventured into it.
    I've also witnessed, in the past on other sims, enemy player flown aircraft forming a Lufberry Ring and immediately decided stayed well from the trap.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be interesting to make a video covering that for sure. It would take some organising of several different players to practice and do it right though. I'm aware of the tactic, but it's not something I've really used myself.

    • @CZ350tuner
      @CZ350tuner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RequiemsACTL It does require practice and a minimum of 3 planes. Ideal number is 5.
      The circle is never tight and the diameter depends on the number of aircraft forming the points of it.
      They show it in an episode of the TV show "Dogfights" with NVA Migs flying in a Lufberry Ring to attempt to trap a US fighter.
