    This is good stuff on how to work as a pair with a wingman effectively. Nice.

    Super video. I really like how you divided it into sections when you edited it. Great flow, very easy to follow, and holy cow, that deflection shot!! I did feel a little bit bad for your wingman - sounds like he is being scolded a few times for being out of position. I can only imagine the cursing that would ensue if I was flying your wing haha. Looking forward to the next one!!

      It's all good Creep, the two of us discuss these in detail and in my first draft I didn't want to "throw him under the bus" so to speak, but he was telling me I left him off easy so I had to re-narrate the video! There's no cursing at each other when we fly, it's just a friendly chit chat until we see something then the more business like chatter starts up :-)

    Good stuff. I think teamwork is an underrated topic for flight sim tutorials, as I see a lot of people lacking in it. But when they do it right, its such a force multiplier in any flight combat sim.
    Most tutorials from everyone is about how to be a good shot, or how to be a good dogfighter, but rarely how to be a good wingman.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Reggie, I'm working on some wingman material. People are always saying "fly with a wingman" when it comes to MP but that's about as far as it goes...as you say the actual "how" of being a wingman or lead is important too and is something I'll address.

    Excellent debrief and it's a good note on tactics as well. I've been flying on some servers and most of the time I'm alone, so I always tend to stay high ( not that type of high ), and dive in and out if I know I'm unseen or when the target is engaging something else.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Renato, as you would know flying alone is so much more difficult. It's hard splitting your time between trying to find a target and watching out for someone sneaking up on you! Your technique is a good way to go if you're alone for sure, so the old adage of speed is life and altitude is insurance is very apt :-)

    nice series hope it continues, that guy who is suposed to stay high cover is usealy weary vonerable as veteran players will go first for him as hes attention is mostly focused on low guy hes covering, so ending low fight fast and good comunication from low guy on what hes doing helps high guy to focuse more on looking around then just looking at df.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's true, as long as the bounce is successful it's not an issue but if the fight lasts longer than that initial attack then the wingman should come down to help finish things off faster and not just sit up high watching.

    Great video, and it's a good follow-up on the previous one. As people have said, the in-game footage mixed with TacView really works well.

    • @RequiemsACTL

      Thanks Mike, it's not that rare I get shot down though LOL It's more rare of me being able to get on multiplayer recently than anything else. Don't worry, these debriefs will show me dying too :-) The goal is just to get enough learning points to make showing a fight worthwhile is all.

    Just reviewed this one after couple of months again. Any chance of doing attack/defense strategies for specific planes series? Lagg is first that comes to my mind. With all other red planes I (almost) have some strategy, but I am struggling big time in Lagg :) Anyway, you are doing really nice work man. I really appreciate you taking time to do these educational videos.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Goran, I prefer to explain things in a general sense so you can apply the principles in any airplane/simulator when it comes to BFM/ACM. If I get into specific matchups then I feel that may pigeonhole how people think certain airplanes should be flown. You can of course have a good grasp of an airplane's strength, such as the Bf109's climb rate or the Spitfire's instantaneous turn ability, but the concept of understanding energy is critical. Sometimes you need to keep energy in reserve, other times you may need to burn it off to create a shot or defend. It all depends on the situation and becomes a big rabbit hole to go down... That's why I like doing these debriefs when I can as they illustrate some of these things in action.

  • @BceltsRayRAy20
    @BceltsRayRAy20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there any specific reason why you would target the left engine vs the right engine when attacking a twin-engine airplane?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Simply because generally speaking, if you don't know which way the propellers are rotating you should assume they both rotate clockwise, so IF that is the case then taking out the left engine will cause the most adverse affect on that airplane's handling

    The LaGG-3 was referred to as "The Varnished Guaranteed Coffin" and "The Flying Crematorium" by Russian pilots for good reason. Very heavy for its size, poor power to weight ratio, fuel hoses in the cockpit next to the flare cartridges (look to the right of the cockpit and be scared!!) plus heavy shatter prone plastic impregnated Birch wood wings. It has a poor turning circle and roll rate when compared to other German and Russian fighters.
    Good points are a higher terminal dive speed than the Yak and a nicely well upholstered seat back (they were produced by the Soviet's best coffin makers!!).
    To outfly anybody in a LaGG-3 one has to be either very good or the opponent very bad or both factors.
    I fly the LaGG-3 a lot because of it's handicaps and failings.
    It's just lucky that they never did an IL-2 Battle of Leningrad so I don't have to face the most successful KD ratio fighter of WW2, the highly agile and very tight turning deadly Finnish Brewster B-239 Buffalo.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm a big fan of the LaGG as well and have spent a lot of time in it. I love taking the 23mm with HE rounds...all you need is that one good shot :-)

    • @CZ350tuner
      @CZ350tuner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RequiemsACTL Same choice here with the 23mm with HE rounds. I go for the bomber and my top cover watches over me.
      The LaGG-3 is not a well designed aircraft and has over 100 Kg. of lead ballast in the nose just to make it fly level. Designed on the back of a Vodka bottle label apparently.
      It is the worst Russian fighter of WW2.

    So the Hs-129 at around the 9:00 mark was attacking his own forces?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he may have been confused about where he was to attack his own forces...either that or Tacview didn't register the ground targets correctly.

    how do you find so easily these bogeys? It is almost impossible to me

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just something that takes practice and hanging around the right areas of the map. If you're defending a target and scanning, focus on one part of the sky at a time and don't move your view. Anything that moves within your view will catch your attention.

    Bus driver? May I ask is that your lingo for wingman?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Busdriver is my "cooperative bandit" who acts as the bad guy in the BFM videos for demonstration purposes. In this video he is my wingman and you'll see him in most of my videos as we pretty much only fly together. He used to fly the RF-4 and F-16 for the USAF so he knows his stuff. If I make a video and it's good enough for him I know it's good enough for you guys :-)
