Wise words regarding psu's, I have seen some hokey looking stuff in my time including a large TV I bought on the cheap that seemed OK and worked OK right up to the moment watching telly with missus and kids it exploded in the backside of it with large crackly flames rearing up... Previous owner fed up with a blowing main fuse inside took a wodge of mains earth core making a plug out of it and jammed in the fuse holder... he bought the remains of the telly back as the choice was either pay me back what you owe matey or I will throw you off this here bridge crossing the A303... I was NOT a happy bunny over that one.
Wow that's insane mate. I will bridge fuses if it's for testing but I'd much rather write it off as a total loss rather than risk human life. Some things just aren't worth the risk
If you are an electronics technician definitely you should know how works a switching mode power supply and you should be able also to fix it easily. A power supply is much easier to fix then any other devices.

You cant repair that if the ferrite core is damaged. That is a choke, it stops RF going in or out of the PSU. it does that due to the ferrite core.
