It's a shame that people abuse expensive electronics like that. I've always taken care of my video game consoles. If there was something I didn't know what to do I would take it to someone who does. I smoke but never inside my house.
I've been watching your videos for few weeks now. Your videos are great. This console was disgusting . it was a fire just waiting to happen. I think you were very generous to give him that PlayStation parts
Yeah sounds about right on this one lol. This was probably the worse console I've come across in terms of dust and destruction, quite an eye opener lol
Seen plenty of your videos and catching up on some old ones. Most frustrated I have ever seen you. And respect to how you were professional in getting it fixed. Did the customer ever see this video? And comment on what you said about him?
youre a good guy , ive been watching your content for a long time now , but today i just felt that ive seen enough , i know how it feels when people take advantage and its not right i know youre working hard and this is not how it should be
I'm a retired auto tech. I refused to work on cars full of trash and/or filth in the cabin. Posed a health and safety risk. Clean your filth or find someone else. I saw some major customer repairs gone wrong too. I could write a book on it. I'll never understand people attempting to repair something without any knowledge.
No words. I smoke myself, but I always take care of my stuff. That poor PS4 looks like someone hung it in a smoker alongside the fish...nay, worse than that. That Heatsink gave me heart palpitations, not to mention the "Case Mod" with the Fan. You could use that Tar blob to fix some potholes in the streets, for crying out loud! Great job on the fix.
I've actually repaired worse Phil, yes really I couldn't agree more that some customers just dive in head first without any knowledge at all. great work on this one bud 👍
I’m a noob to the channel but I am liking it very much! You can’t have the game without the console so it’s good to take care of it. I would put my Wii on a royal pillow if I could!
only 11 minutes in and watching this is giving me a headache. that customer is a right ******* fool. you could have refused him, man. you always do an amazing job
Hey there Phil that is the main reason this guys console was overheating is the thermal paste if he just sent it to you in the first place he wouldnt have damaged the whole console and it probably only needed a good cleaning and rethermal paste Great video.😊
I'm not that sure about the thermal paste, and i tell you why right now.. i have a 1216 fat bought 6 years ago and i never replaced the thermal paste but i clean the vents periodically, the console doesn't overheat and it quite silent, probably just cleaning out the dust and smoke moisture of the heat sink was enough to fix the overheating issues, or maybe the thermal paste was really dry and needed a repaste, unfortunately we'll never know lol
When i first opened a ps4 i didnt have the right tools but i opened it fixed it and put it back together with a flat head screw driver i slightly stripped one or two screws but it went back together nicely with no damage and later i bought a proper screwdrivers and replaced the screws i would never think of ripping a console apart like that
The owner is very lucky indeed. Hats off to you for carrying on refurbing it. If anything its worth the video alone to see and show how NOT to fiddle and wreck up a console. Should have doubled the £20 i reckon.
I once worked in a repair shop in the years of ps3s and xbox 360s repair and i opened dozens of consoles with a flat head screwdriver because in the shop we had only one torx driver, it works perfectly fine if you are gentle and you know what are you doing of course lol
As a retired electrical engineer who still does the occasional side job , I'm not surprised at the state of that one .I have seen too many pieces of equipment butchered by owners.
Great job Phil. I wouldn't have given him a new shell. That was a disgraceful console. At what point does someone think "I know, I'll butcher it with a hacksaw to get better airflow". Absolute lunacy!!!
The tools to open these consoles literally cost a few quid off amazon if you are getting cheap one's and they work fine, horrible to see such abuse to this ps4
i respect you so much more now. The reason he was so harsh towards the customer is cause he's passionate about the work he does. So when you provide a good service but the customer limits you to the equivalent of 50$ (US Resident) and provides you not a damaged console but one that is destroyed it shows why he felt this way
I've worked on some filthy and dirty game consoles in my time but nothing on the scale of that PS4, Jesus, how that machine never went up in flames i just don't know. This was what i was trying to explain to my brother with regards his PS4 Pro when i came to stripping it down to clean it out for him. Dust/fluff debri blocking all the plastic shell venting along with nicotine and scorch/overheating marks on the internal metal sheilding plates but that PS4 you just rescued there, that was just pure neglect by the owner.
Problem with blocked cooling system is if its been like this a while, the CPU/GPU can be found cooked or shorted as i have a few times or it works but life is shorten. Tricky if you buy a laptop from say EBAY and its just clogged with dust a easy fix, but its a lotto as to if it will work well after or at all. Cars and computer radiators must be serviced people!!
Just cleaned out my younger brothers ps4 original not been cleaned or opened in about 7 years. Heat sink had about an inch of dust and the fan was no better
I've seen some worse PCs, but not a console. That's has to have been in a heavy smokers home, with 20 cats, on the floor. I serviced a PC that was full of cobwebs, dead spiders and 2 dead mice. I have always advised people to just run a vacuum nozzle around the vents of their consoles/computers/TVs etc. It can really help in the long run, or ever get a cheap electric air duster.
That PS4 should probably have given up the cigs 7 years ago LOL. Anyway, i am a little curious as i heard you say the disk drive need a rebuilt. Does that mean that you had already cleaned the rollers (maybe as part of the service) as it was not showing you do anything with the actual drive during the video. I'd say that 20 quid for a service is not a bad price. I have seen some videos where the console was really dirty, but still this beats everything i have seen before.
I've seen this before when costumers come to me and ask me to fix or look at there stuff honestly I feel you pain mate crazy I had a TV once few years ago and they wall mounted it after I fixed it and give it them back they went and put a screw right through the back straight into the AV board again after I had to replace it I could have cried lol
I have a PS3 with a case that is in very bad shape. Cause my brother knocked it off the desk onto the hard floor. It got its first clean in 2019 since I bought it in 2013. The dust inside was nowhere near as bad as this is. I mean how on earth did it get like that? Did they blow smoke directly into the console all the time, or what!?
When you said the customer wants to pay as little as possible, I woudnt even give him a new case for free I would just put it back together with parts it came with, he doesn't deserve all the work you done
g`day just got to the bit you talk prices ...mate your working for too cheap its should be 50 pound for your time i think you do quality work you have good knowledge of the a the consoles and you have good business scruples (very rare these days ) great video mate cheers
Good job mate but fk that that’s ridiculous like you said I’ve never seen anything like it mate if you don’t know what you’re doing leave it alone! But well done again mate keep up the good work
I`m sorry I did not get to watch you stream this video Phil. I would of said in all caps ( DO NOT ACCEPT THIS JOB). I`m 23 minutes into watching it and its making me feel sick. I feel so sorry for you. You should have rang the owner and said your not doing it. I see danger money involved for this job.
Had a guy who i told everyone is able to repair a phone if learned right, only some people take more time. So... without investigating how to, or the right tools he ripped the screen off his iphone, with the screws still in to clean liquid damage, blaming me for his stupidity lol
I know it's hard to turn work away BUT I would have refused to repair it without contacting the customer first detailing what it needs and agreeing a price for the replacement parts. What they did to it was criminal vandalism and they did not deserve your work and charity fixing it. It 'was' in worse condition than the one you found with the HDMI port ripped off and rusty with water damage! (Great video by the way).
Got a PS4 pro thats only a yeah and half old and I bet my heat syncs as bad as that. It’s now not usable just shuts down , what would be the cause of it? I look after my belongings
I've seen a surprising amount of seized fans on this ps4 model. I've also seen alot of people who've tried to open their ps4 themselves and destroyed the little metal clip for the power button
It's sad to see equipment to be butchered that way. When I wanted to open a console to clean I spent hours on TH-cam looking videos of how to take the console apart. I do my research 1st before. It's sad to see people have no concept of cost and money. I can't afford to replace broken console because I don't have the right screw driver. I spent my 2 or 3 pounds and get the correct tool.
How did that no go on fire 😳 Opened mine up part of the way, the animals hair an smoke defo don't mix well, it would probably look just as bad, If u opened it fully, but it's still whole minus a screw probably lol.
I had to replace the rubber seal around the back of my toilet, that was a cleaner job than that PS4, definitely a heavy smoker with pets but that's no excuse to go at the case with a sledgehammer. Edit: What's been seen cannot be unseen, how am I going to ever sleep now knowing a console is out there with a screw missing 🤣
20 £ pounds. That’s insane. That barely covers the cost of new thermal paste. You are a saint to electronic repair service. I’d be charging wayyyy more. Great work. Under appreciated
I am guilty of letting my PC's get that bad as far as dust. Mind you it never burnt. I would strongly suggest a mask when dealing with all that dust my brother. Mighty nasty stuff!!
Smokers consoles are the worst! Have had so many that have overheated as fan and heat sink blocked from the nicotine fibers. Disgusting to clean and fix 🤢
I've seen a ps3 as bad as that the heat sink was also burned holes cut out of the power suplly case the top shell was missing and i had to give him a new ps3 cuz his was unremarkable cuz the motherboard was warped worked when I had it together but once I took the motherboard out of the shell it was obviously dropped and the motherboard and the heatsheild was warped and i couldn't fix it after i got it back together it worked for a lil bit but ylod like an hour later and just wouldn't work again
Wow i just saw tjis video today damn you opened that console and poor thing looked like it was burnt bad or and that heating damnnn haha did you ever find out what happened to that console why it ended up the way it did
I've had PCs filthy like that and the customers are always the shitty ones with you when it takes a while to sort out. I'd be embarrassed to have that in my living room even the scuff on top of my PS4 pro pisses me off. people are so nasty to their own property...but hey... he never mangled the HDMI port at least haha :D
This is a perfect example of why I got out of the computer industry years ago. I've been an IT manager and run my own business. I've seen too many like this where the machine was just outright abused yet the client expected miracles and at a lower cost than replacement. I've had too many arguments with clients while trying to explain why I am refusing the job and their attitude was always "But it's just a simple fix". I've had them argue about why they shouldn't have to pay for my labour or that I should provide parts for free and have been given all manner of excuses as to why THEY are a special, more deserving case than the next guy. Got totally sick of it and sold my business over a decade ago. I haven't looked back and do not regret my choice at all. Now I just fix my own stuff and frankly I rarely have to fix anything. If I was working on this one I would have stopped during disassembly and told the client to come pick it up. totally not worth the effort in my mind unless you're going to see a VERY large payment. Good on you though for sticking it out for as long as you did.
Yeah I see it quite often too, and the customer is always adamant that they're right and we're wrong. The term "simple fix" to me is a joke, and usually a red flag. If it were such a simple fix, they'd be doing it themselves lol
Great job mate. He didn’t deserve all the replacement parts.
Such ppl should never be given a responsibility, evennnnn on a console
It's a shame that people abuse expensive electronics like that. I've always taken care of my video game consoles. If there was something I didn't know what to do I would take it to someone who does. I smoke but never inside my house.
I've been watching your videos for few weeks now. Your videos are great. This console was disgusting . it was a fire just waiting to happen. I think you were very generous to give him that PlayStation parts
Very scary what people do to their electronics, I think it's a combination of smoking, probably having it on the floor and in a tight corner
Yeah sounds about right on this one lol. This was probably the worse console I've come across in terms of dust and destruction, quite an eye opener lol
20:54 i’m convinced they had a diesel generator running in their room probably to power the ps4 and tv.
Seen plenty of your videos and catching up on some old ones. Most frustrated I have ever seen you. And respect to how you were professional in getting it fixed. Did the customer ever see this video? And comment on what you said about him?
I don't think he did to be honest, but then again I don't think I mentioned it, maybe one day he'll stumble on it lol
I remember cleaning my friend's ps4 and he chain smoked inside, needless to say after showing him the heatsink he quit smoking altogether 😂
That's awesome he learned from what you showed him .
youre a good guy , ive been watching your content for a long time now , but today i just felt that ive seen enough , i know how it feels when people take advantage and its not right i know youre working hard and this is not how it should be
It was definitely worth the repair. The true value is US the viewers getting to see your mad skillz.

@@christopherbolis2048 Considering the thermal paste turned into a solid, it's safe to say the pastes' effective life was at an end.
I have seen many of your newer repair video's but this one is the funniest . . .I hope you charge him accordingly
That PS4 looks like it’s been smoking 2 packs a day
I have seen a lot of weird stuff regarding electronics but this one takes the cake.

This made me clean my PS4 fan. And it was barely dirty, because I last cleaned it about 2 months ago. Best to keep on top of it tho

I wouldn't have even cleaned that console and at absolutely wouldn't never sorted the state it was in. job well done for sorting that PlayStation 4👏
that one def needed some brake cleaner! lool
one a serious note, thats what cigarette smoke does m8. you need to cut back :)
Haha sorry bud didn't see this comment, if I smoked that much id die lmao 🤣
Your too nice, I would have told him that I would repair it but I wouldn't guarantee it unless he replaced the case.
How many people shouted "Don't give that animal a free case!"?
What a butcher. Well done Phil you're the patience of a saint👍
I've worked on some filthy and dirty game consoles in my time but nothing on the scale of that PS4, Jesus, how that machine never went up in flames i just don't know. rough one bud dont blame you for getting fed up

ive seen some crazy stuff but that was something of its own lol. burnt aluminum thatswild im impressed it could boot after all that like props to ps4
That customer does not deserve the level of service and professionalism he got. Amazing work.

Good job mate but fk that that’s ridiculous like you said I’ve never seen anything like it mate if you don’t know what you’re doing leave it alone! But well done again mate keep up the good work
Jesus Christ, your reaction is priceless. I have never ever seen anything that bad.
Bro. Ultimately enjoyed your vids but please dont complain all the time. It’s very negative. Show the positives ! ☺️❤️
I would have sent it back to the customer as it was shocking condition never anything like it ever great fix
The customer should be thankful for what you did. He won't but he should.
Seen similar caused thru smoking, guy smoked cigars & his pc was full of greasy orange/yellow sticky fluff similar to what you've got there.
Nasty.
I`m sorry I did not get to watch you stream this video Phil. I would of said in all caps ( DO NOT ACCEPT THIS JOB). I`m 23 minutes into watching it and its making me feel sick. Watching this one again, I wonder if it's still working 20 months later after this video!!
It's probably been destroyed some more lol
Great vid bro 👍🏾
That PS4 has smoked a few ounce of weed in its time 😅😂😂😂
I know it's hard to turn work away BUT I would have refused to repair it without contacting the customer first detailing what it needs and agreeing a price for the replacement parts.
What they did to it was criminal vandalism and they did not deserve your work and charity fixing it.

Got a PS4 pro thats only a yeah and half old and I bet my heat syncs as bad as that. It’s now not usable just shuts down , what would be the cause of it? I look after my belongings
Seen many a PCs that bad. Tobacco smoke is the worst thing.
I've seen a surprising amount of seized fans on this ps4 model.
I've also seen alot of people who've tried to open their ps4 themselves and destroyed the little metal clip for the power button
Props to u bud,the customer was dirty person lol I can never understand why people, do not look after there things unbelievable.

Compressed air is your friend 👍
How did that no go on fire 😳
Opened mine up part of the way, the animals hair an smoke defo don't mix well, it would probably look just as bad, If u opened it fully, but it's still whole minus a screw probably lol.
The young guy who did this is a future good technician. How much butchering untill you get good? 🤔 Lol Phil massive rant lol.😆
My mates ps4 used to overheat in Netflix. The dust was so much worse than that
What the actual hell. How have I not seen this one lol. I would have set fire to it lol
Haha yup I remember this one 🤣 absolutely disgusting lol
21:50 OMG Seriously The worst I’ve ever seen😳😳
You make me afraid to know what my console looks like inside 😆😆😆
More shocked that that console did not cook this customers house ... Priceless fire hazard!
Probably how mine looks from 6million joints 6000grams of dabs and 500cartons of smokes
Was he happy when he came to collect it? Great job 🙂
Yeah very happy lol, I wasn't though with the state of it lol
I like you do the blue light of death and you bring them back to life please do some more m8
The worst part of dealing with the public is dealing with the public
I bought a PS4 from eBay which the seller said is "working" and found sellotape holding down the bdrom drive power connector 😬
I had to replace the rubber seal around the back of my toilet, that was a cleaner job than that PS4, definitely a heavy smoker with pets but that's no excuse to go at the case with a sledgehammer.
Edit:
What's been seen cannot be unseen, how am I going to ever sleep now knowing a console is out there with a screw missing 🤣
Should have sent it to Shango066 he likes the "mmmmm nicoteen glazzze..." 🤣
I’ve actually took apart a PS4 like this before with black sticky dusty tar inside was the worst console I’ve even seen
i have had heat sinks covered in dust but that looks like it was burning. all that for £30????? are you crazy
20 £ pounds. That’s insane. That barely covers the cost of new thermal paste. You are a saint to electronic repair service. I’d be charging wayyyy more.
Great work. Under appreciated
Absolutely disgusting 🤢 But fantastic work on your part!
The dirt inside that console resembles the back of my underwear!!!😁
47:32 Rumour has it that 2 years later, that screw is still sitting on Phil's desk. I bet that gunk was vape juice.
That was not a heatsink its a frickin frying grill😂😂
I've see one worse, and I was sick and I didn't repair the console and sent it back to customer
I am guilty of letting my PC's get that bad as far as dust. Mind you it never burnt. I would strongly suggest a mask when dealing with all that dust my brother. Mighty nasty stuff!!

30quid ? You must have a cue up the street lol
This is a perfect example of why I got out of the computer industry years ago. I've been an IT manager and run my own business. Yeah I see it quite often too, and the customer is always adamant that they're right and we're wrong. The term "simple fix" to me is a joke, and usually a red flag. If it were such a simple fix, they'd be doing it themselves lol
Watching this so far is making me sad how and why would you do this to a console
Cigarette smoke and dust gross? I recently cleaned a xbox one x that was like this
That PS4 was skip fodder lol
Actually fixed my sons PS4 from watching videos
Even after seeing this people still smoke, imagine what your body looks like after 7years+ smoking everyday, if electronics looks like that...
