A friend of mine bought this kit when it went for $300 back in 2012 here in Australia. Unfortunately he died before he could get to build it, and I inherited the kit. It's built and painted now, sitting in pride of place on my shelves. He'd be delighted to know it finally has decent stats. Vale Chris.
Dude, I preordered the Custodes box at my LGS and I was so expecting the Praetors to be getting a buff, like knock 25-30pts off both the Praetor and the Shield Captain on Jetbike, a new rule, better statline, something and we got nothing. EVERYONE was expecting the Stompa to be a joke, something that Ork players were getting because it's an easy way to fill out the box and it's not gonna be viable competitively but it'll be funny to walk up with your army and be like "Oh yeah, here's my army, and here's a hunk of plastic that saunters up the board." Little did we know, the OPPOSITE was gonna happen. Praetors weren't touched, they didn't even have a detachment that specifically focuses on like advance and charge or anything, whilst the Stompa got benefitted from the new box and codex so well. It's honestly really funny because I was like "well, I'm gonna have a full set of Praetors and Jetbike Captains, so it's gonna be really fun walking up to my LGS and dropping them all on the table, because someones gonna sit there and die laughing as they charge in, kill a bunch of shit, and die to the seven other units that are swarming them with like 10 models each"
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!! DAYS, WEEKS OF WAITING FOR THE STOMPA TO GET GOOD!! PEOPLE I PLAY LOCALLY LITERALLY KNOW ME AS STOMPA MAN AND MY DAY FINALLY COME!! THANK YOU SO ZOGGIN MUCH GAMES WORKSHOP
I remember the stompa mob in 9th edition where you could designate a Stompa as your warlord and you could give it a shield for invulns. There was also a Stompa teleporter stratagem that cost 4 CP so you could deep strike your stompa. But you had to have 3 Lords of War for that detatchment, and of course any kind of refined anti tank would wipe you off the board.
There was a character stompa in an old imperial armour that was a carrier for deffkoptas. It was your warlord, I think, but if it died, it would spawn a deffkopta that would be your warlord representing the mekboss getting out of dodge before his stompa went boom
Given that the Beast was many different Orks, it's a very real possibility. Some Ork somewhere decides to call themselves the Beast. If they're sufficiently huge and impressive, it would work.
I prefer skorchas for dealing with weak infantry, and Rokkits for trying to break tougher stuff. The grotzooka really doesn't fit great unless against t3 hordes with low saves, and even then the Scorcha probably does as good or better. The KMB, while nice, is a bit too risky and not quite as general purpose as the rockets.
@@Rexir2 Yeah, nvm. I thought about buffing them with +1 to wound and damage now that they're -1AP ignore cover, but that's against vehicles or monsters only. Would've been a great marine killer. Rokkits it is.
The transport ability lets the stompa poop out a unit (maybe a full grot squad) on an objective turn 1/2. But you can also carry a screening/anti screen unit to save yourself from getting caught up on chaff
What is Stompa going to get caught on as far as chaff units? Most armies will only engage with its melee once it has been weakened enough to be in kill range. Orks, World Eaters, and Custodes are the only armies I can think of that will actively try to charge the Stompa as their main way to focus it.
I think I remember seeing people who've made 2 stompas out of the one kit by using different weapons and heads on each one and then basically splitting the remaining parts between them and building out the rest with plasticard and kitbashing
Noice! as a new ork player (only got assualt on black reach and boarding patrol) I picked up the battleforce for £115 online today so I'm pysched for this.
FUN FACT (!!!) With Mek for the +1 to hit and the two stratagems for full to hit rerolls and +1 to wound and +1 damage and sustained hits you could theoretically make up to around 400 (!!!) damage with all weapons in one round. Still a lot of random factors here, but on paper extremely threatening!
It needs the fight on death strat from the index detachment. It's essential. In my last game Canis Rex killed me so I fought on death and killed him back. I didnt get my points back but Canis off the board helped big time. If your opponent is great at combat, you basically guarantee their death if they charge you.
Biggest problem I have had was the points in previous editions. I quit running it when the blast markers went away, it was always more fun to lay a 7in blast marker down and hit everything under it and you just needed to roll to wound.
Can I just say, love the fact Big was capitalised in big choppa. Also I love the twin Stompa idea, for some reason I thought of Marley and Marley from the muppets Christmas carol
It fells so Orky to push the buttons and maybe in Turn 3 Waaagh, Advance and shoot, Dakka, Dakka, Dakka and Bigger shells for Bigger Gits for an Titanic unit that goes crazy and deals massive damage to itself.
On everything from the Terminator down the +1 to hit from the mek and firing all the guns seems to about equal the the +1 to hit, and also push the button, and only firing the three main ones. And it's not a huge increase vs vehicles, but it is noteworthy. Obviously, the added stratagems push this into absurdity.
So, I look at this in much the same way I looked at Baneblades; I know they aren't the best, simply by being the biggest, and GW will even make efforts to KEEP it from being too competitive, but it is finally entering a space where, under certain circumstances, it CAN be viable, and I think that's wonderful.😅
The unspoken downside to such big models is that the size prevents it from maneuvering on the battlefield due to cluttered terrain. I'd love to throw a Baneblade on the table now and then but the GW obsession with melee over shooting forces these big models to sit at home. If you could play a game with player placed terrain, it might be feasible.
Love vids on the big non meta stuff... Any chance of a vid were you compare each armies big titanic, like the stompa/ hierophant and the Tua 800 point titan models.
I don't think the Dread Mob Hazardous is worth using since it triggers on 1s AND 2s, not only on 1s. That would significantly increase the MW you are taking. Using 3 guns mean on avarage you take 3MW per round, not 1 or 2.
Also, i think it should be 650-700 points. But im still going to run mine, bought him way back in 5th edition and him being remotely playable is all the excuse i need to dust him off

Is this the sign of the beasts return in lore perhaps
Given that the Beast was many different Orks, it's a very real possibility. Some Ork somewhere decides to call themselves the Beast. If they're sufficiently huge and impressive, it would work.
Impossible, as the beasts were all killed and the Orks aren't controlled anymore / forgot what is necessary to create a beast.
Auspex saying “Dakka Dakka Dakka” is strangely meditative

Always gotta watch out for that sudden AC20 on the trash bin.
I feel like all Ork players still smiled whenever they saw a Stompa back when it was just a Titanic meme. Now, I think they grinnin' like Gork.

It only triggers on 2s if the weapon already had hazardous though and 3mw isn't much to a stompa.
