It's worth reading Nick Mason's autobiography. You get the feeling he didn't rate himself which I find very odd. He talks about telling Gilmour to get a better drummer to lay down the drum lines for Momentary Lapse of Reason. Personally I love his drumming and couldn't imagine Floyd with anybody else.

Andrew Loyd Webber stole the “dun dun dun dun dun...... dun dun dun dun dun...” from Pink Floyd when he “wrote” Phantom of the Opera. If you ever listen to “It’s A Miracle” from Roger Waters’ solo material, you will see just how much he hates Loyd Webber for stealing their shit. BTW, Roger Waters is the bassist and lyricist for Pink Floyd.

"Where's the crowd?" Dead and gone. This performance is done in Pompeii, famously buried under volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius blew up nearly 2000 years ago. They set up in the ancient ruins and played one of their greatest early works.
Live in Pompeii. They said a small group of lical kids about 10-12 yrs old showed up, but they kept their distance and didn't cause any trouble. So they let them stay. That melodic run at the 5:30 that you recognize is originally from this song, but apparently got stuck in Andrew Lloyd Webber's head, because he ended up accidentally stealing it for Phantom of the Opera.
Another person also said something along those lines in trying to describe this section of the infamous, plagiarized masterpiece. With a wrinkle-up of my nose and through squinting eyes I say it undeniably possesses the ability to cause extreme stank-face.
Pigs, summer 68 and anothers have a very "Funky" feeling in some parts. And Funk is fucking amazing. If you like some progressive rock kind of this I recommend Funkadelic first álbum. George Clinton is amazing.
not gonna lie, this is my favorite reaction video of yours so far. (doesn't hurt this is one of my favorite pieces of music recorded to video) but my reasoning for it is that you let the music envelop you and rarely pause the video/song. usually you pause pretty often to make a comment here and there because you want to fill the roll of being a reaction channel and tell your thoughts as they come. @@jamelakajamal Ya Live at Pompeii is a full concert, with part 1 of Echoes being the 1st 10 minutes and part 2 of Echoes being the last 10 minutes of the concert. Pink Floyd agreed to do it only if there was no post production. All the gear had to be setup there to record what they played at that moment.

Seen Pink Floyd the first time July 6, 1977 in Montreal, Canada at the Olympic Stadium I was 15... then seen them in Los Angeles on February 10, 1980 , 2 of the best concerts ever!!!

This early floyd stuff was so good. This is my personal favorite. I bought the live in Pompeii DVD in 2004. It is a must see for every Pink Floyd fan out there. Always called this the concert for the ghosts.. A brilliant idea to perform in an empty ancient amphitheater.. Hopeful for a 4K release.. First time seen it was at a Midnight Showing at a local theater in 1988..
Pink Floyd is one of those groups where there is not ANY bad seat at their concerts - they have interest throughout the audience space, hidden speakers for random background voices, light effects, a giant dragon popping up. At the very back is where the voice came "I am not frightened of dying..." I had a very "respected" feeling at their concert - like they were aware the audience paid quite a lot for the tickets and they had a responsibility to provide a good show to everyone. I suddenly loved them all the more.
Echoes is the perfect intro song to Pink Floyd. 22 mins of perfection. And the part you were asking about sounds alittle like Phantom of the Opera to me, from the trailer i saw for it, maybe... 👍
Hey Jamel, this is for certain my most watched Pink Floyd video of all time, without a doubt. If you noticed, they had a track that the cameras rolled along, my all time favorite part is just when they start panning around the back of the speaker enclosures and equipment, WEM cabinets, Watkins Electric Music, a British company that makes these towers of speakers. I've watched the Live At Pompeii dvd so many times it's become a meditation for me whether I'm just listening in the background, or watching intently. The atmosphere is amazing.

If you are not familiar with it, it is a composition written and beautifully sung by the late Sandy Denny when she was a member of Fairport Convention. Led Zeppelin were huge fans and you know that you are a member of the elite group when they ask you to sing on their record. Sandy was the only non-group member to ever perform on a Zeppelin album and they even gave her her own symbol for singing on The Battle of Evermore. The definitive version of Who Knows Where The Time Goes is on Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking album and certainly worth a listen. Speaking

They recorded that album in that amphitheater for the acoustics. Floyd was deeply into sounds and noises and actually made an album (wasn't released) using household items.

It was the acoustics of the amphitheater that was the sound they were looking for, it couldn't be replicated in the studio.

Yep this was 1972, before “Dark Side”...if you play the Meddle. LP (1971), this track takes up the whole of the B side, at 23 minutes

When I ordered this on DVD, I was expecting a live concert with people too. I guess the attending crowd are the spirits of Pompeii.
When someone listens to Pink Floyd for the first time, I always feel like they're taking shrooms for the first time and I'm like, "hey man, be careful with that..."

This early floyd stuff was so good. This is my personal favorite. I bought the live in Pompeii DVD in 2004. It is a must see for every Pink Floyd fan out there. I knew you would enjoy this one brother. This is another reason your channel is so much above any other out there. Keep up the awesome work.

Always called this the concert for the ghosts.. A brilliant idea to perform in an empty ancient amphitheater.. Hopeful for a 4K release.. First time seen it was at a Midnight Showing at a local theater in 1988..
Pretty sure this is when the gods blessed the band. They showed back up to watch David perform Comfortably Numb solo during the Pulse tour .
Pink Floyd is one of those groups where there is not ANY bad seat at their concerts - they have interest throughout the audience space, hidden speakers for random background voices, light effects, a giant dragon popping up. At the very back is where the voice came "I am not frightened of dying..." I had a very "respected" feeling at their concert - like they were aware the audience paid quite a lot for the tickets and they had a responsibility to provide a good show to everyone. I suddenly loved them all the more.
Echoes is the perfect intro song to Pink Floyd.

Hey Jamel, this is for certain my most watched Pink Floyd video of all time, without a doubt. If you noticed, they had a track that the cameras rolled along, my all time favorite part is just when they start panning around the back of the speaker enclosures and equipment, WEM cabinets, Watkins Electric Music, a British company that makes these towers of speakers. The horns really rock out the sound, very LOUD! Glad you enjoyed!

Love the t-Shirt! Awesome! As someone else said below, the crowd is 2000 year old ghosts. They are in the ancient Roman amphitheater of Pompeii in Italy. The sculptures they keep showing are Roman era sculptures found in Pompeii. This is a number of years before Comfortably Numb.

The wonderfully trippy music of the late 60s early 70s. Hashish and LSD completed the triad and it was a magical time to be alive.
I have flown 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' airlines while listening to great music, including Floyd Dark Side of the Moon through headphones. It's pretty great.

When you ask where those notes are from…it reminds me of the beginning of Phantom of the Opera (the musical), but Echoes was written long before Phantom 😊

The first time I heard Echoes was at midnight in July in the dark with the windows open. So ethereal and haunting.

Hell,I had been OUT of High School 5 years when this movie came out and totally blew me away... Talk about OLD but then on second thought maybe let's not. hehe...Shit, where did the time go??. or maybe better yet where did all the good music go??
@@BlueGoat682 A local theater in my area used to play this movie at midnight. or it could have been "Tommy" or "The Song remains the Same" Etc... This was 40 years ago and things were different. The theater didn't care if you smoked weed or brought in beer, hell, you really didn't even need to fire it up, you'd get a contact high just sitting there.😋 Good Times!!

Speaking of older movies, I was tripping on window pane acid the first time I saw "The Exorcist" way back in the early 70's.Talk about surreal! In the scene where her head turns all the way around and the audience was reacting to it we were sitting in the very back laughing. :-)

Speaking of where did the time go, that is coincidentally the abbreviated title of my favorite song. If you are not familiar with it, it is a composition written and beautifully sung by the late Sandy Denny when she was a member of Fairport Convention. Led Zeppelin were huge fans and you know that you are a member of the elite group when they ask you to sing on their record. Sandy was the only non-group member to ever perform on a Zeppelin album and they even gave her her own symbol for singing on The Battle of Evermore. The definitive version of Who Knows Where The Time Goes is on Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking album and certainly worth a listen.

A Masterpiece
They recorded that album in that amphitheater for the acoustics. Floyd was deeply into sounds and noises and actually made an album (wasn't released) using household items.
