Actress Laur Allen ❤❤ works with the Pasadena Humane Society. They are housing animals during the fires. PHS teams with Hill''s on the Rose Parade float. So I am sure Hill's is donating food.
Don't know her but having lived thru this I know Hills will be delivering food to the animal shelters but also the people shelters where folks can keep their pets with them; high schools, churches, etc.
I fed a couple different ‘premixes’ that you add your own meat to for a while. The dogs had various issues with it. I always do annual bloodwork on each dog and all 4 had wonky bloodwork while on it. For one…. One company said feed this much meat per premix to adult dogs, then feed less meat and more premix for seniors- so… you’re increasing minerals then? It doesnt make sense to me now, but they sure market it perfectly to play on our emotions! My yorkie had the most trouble with bloodwork that was way off, and she was having cystitis for months. Eventually I got tired of the issues the dogs were having ,and as you know put everyone back on foods from Hills and proplan. Wouldn’t you know it… poof! Perfect bloodwork and no more cystitis, diarrhea, vomiting, pancreatitis, etc. thank you for this video again! I’d love to see you review something like Dr. Harvey’s Canine Health for just such a situation and how much the minerals go out of whack the way they instruct you to feed it. although I don’t think there is a nutrients per 100 k/cals option.
I'm glad you're posting more often, I've learned a lot from you. I'm glad I have a realistic picture that would not harm my pet or make me spend money unnecessarily. I have a question, if you'd like to answer it: I gave my cat this dry food that is produced in two different factories located in two different countries (same exact brand and type), the big bag that I bought to feed some strays as well has a different smell and slightly different shape of kibble than a way smaller bag that I bought to test on my cat prior. My cat seems to like both, maybe from the bigger one more (I need to feed it more to see). Is this normal to have big differences with the same exact assortment but different (size of) bags? Now I'm worried the nutrients are different too (it's an affordable European brand that has 1 Calcium and 0.8 Phosphorus listed on both the package-identical info)?
I have learned from this channel that foods can differ in different countries. SO they could be different. Size and color can vary a bit even in the states due to not using artificial colorings to make everything uniform. That is a really good mineral content. You said on the bag so that would be just the Guaranteed Analysis, or did you mean the actual dry weight?
Ummm, no expertise in animal nutrition, However, as a chef with decades of knowledge and experience in both nutrition and food science; I would never expect ANY recipe I wrote to hit all the animals nutrition standards consistently. That level of accuracy requires on-site per-batch lab testing and recipe adjustment to account for the variables in both raw product and process changes. We're talking insane levels of annual investment. There's a reason Food Scientists working for major international corporations make the crazy high salaries they do.
I have mentioned my one granddaughter Avie a few times in my videos. She is speciial needs, non verbal, eats with a G Tube. she is fed an ultra processed pouch of food about 5 times a day. Nothing else but water. She's 10 this week. I am certain of my 8 grandkids, she is getting the most balanced diet out of all of them. Just shows not all processed food is bad...depends on the purpose of it.
I tried getting nutrient levels on his brand and gave up but I have gotten to the point when a vet uses such misleading and untrue claims in their marketing I really am not interested in their product. Snake Oil Salesmen/women.
I must be honest. I have done that with my two little ones but as Tiffany said Dr Em did a video on it. I have never doubted Dr Em's experience and wisdom but I haven't watched the video yet. I would trust her judgement on the subject over mine.
My large breed dog has been eating home cooked food only since she was 10 wks. (two week adjustment when we got her at 8 weeks old). This is the healthiest dog I have ever seen in my life, yes it has taken A LOT of research. That is where I thought you could come in, I had subscribed to your channel thinking you might help people like me, it should not take hours and hours of research or paying a veterinary nutritionist to feed a healthy pet. We DONOT consult a nutritionist to feed our children, we get guidelines and work to Balance Over Time. I found that I had to unsubscribe, every time I watched one of your videos all I could think was "he drank the Kool-Aid." If the large commercial companies really cared about the pets and their owners, they would get the clinical evidence to either say their food is better than homemade or start suppling guidelines for people to cook for their healthy pets. Most people will choose the premade and might change brands based on the company actually caring about the pets. By the way many of the deficiencies the Dr Em mentioned (choline, zinc etc.) can be solved with the simple addition of eggs, eggs are nutrient bombs everything in there to grow a chick from scratch no additions needed.
This should generate some interesting responses. I feed my cats mostly homemade, but I enjoy the discussions on here. Royal Canin Urinary SO is an expensive, $9 a pound, "veterinary" food. The levels of calcium and phosphorus, 1.4 and 1.3 respectively, are way too high for a normal cat, much less one with urinary issues. Talk about marketing!
Chef I am going to make a video to respond to your concerns. Great post! Ive been wanting to make videos on the better comments. should post in a few days. Thanks for the dialogue.
@@edschulhof6303 yes Ed, sure will! Gonna make a video instead of simply commenting. And I would LOVE to agrees your comments about RC SO Urinary. give me a couple days!
Eggs are unfortunately not a great source of zinc. Assuming you are talking about a chicken egg, you are looking at around 1 mg per 100 g but if you were to use a pacific oyster, you are looking at around 33 mg per 100 g and a wild easter oyster has almost 80 mg per 100 g but who could afford using that? So most homemade food and commercial foods (actually I have never seen one without if considered nutritionally complete and balanced) will include a zinc supplement. If you are worried your dog may not have been getting enough, there is a blood test your vet can do but they need to have a special vial without a rubber lid on it. Mine has a zinc deficiency, likely genetic given his breed, and so I supplement additional levels with zinc picolinate and it is now in normal range.
@@onceuponabanyantree Because she gets a large variety of foods and has grown up strong and healthy (has had hip/elbow exrays, and broke her Daddy's knee strong) on this diet I have not been worried about deficiencies. I did think her zinc was coming from the eggs since they are powerful little nutrient bombs, you showed me it is more from the weekly sardines and salmon and nightly stinky treat (dried fish skin) she gets. Just like humans dogs need variety to get all the nutrients needed. Yes, I go to a lot of trouble to feed my dog, she is in training to be a service dog and when she gets fully trained will be worth at least $20,000, I also want her to live a long healthy/happy life.
Hello Glenn! The lawsuit against Hill's got dismissed! You should make a video on that, so funny that people can sue anyone for ridiculous reasons!
@@George.J hey George! Happy New Year! I didn’t know that! I’ll have to look into it. Thanks!
@@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Happy New Year! Hope you have a great year!
More things going on in LA area right now. There are about 275 horses that have been evacuated to two shelters.
It's too horrible to watch. we went thru the same thing here in Colorado Springs a few years ago, two years in a row.
My cat Alice eats Hills Senior cat Vitality 7+. Her skin isn’t as flakey and she’s more active.
