    Great comparison video. I have the HF notcher and it does work, but if I did more tube work I would defiantly upgrade! But for $30 you cant go wrong!

      I agree 100% I think I’ve come up with a few ideas to fix some issues with it and I’m going to test it out some to see if it helps. 1 strengthened it up and 2 fix the shaft problem.

    I had a harbor freight one for a little while, nothing on it was square. I had to modify every piece on it to get it to work properly. It was to be excepted coming from harbor freight and once I got it square it seemed to work good enough for what I was doing. I now have a notch master on order. It hasn’t gotten here yet but I don’t expect to have any of the same issues

    I noticed on mine it wanted to notch off center, like either the hole saw was walking a bit, or the shaft was flexing.
    Im really thinking its that saddle the HF one uses to hold the tubing moving around. Thinking of milling a few holders out of solid aluminum since I only use about 3 different sizes of tubing
    I always use Lenox unless I need a weird size hole saw, friend of mine runs them til they have one tooth left.

      As long as I’ve had mine tight it’s stayed true but the shaft for the hole saws as all kinds of wobble lol. I feel like it needs the bearing support and shaft off of the jd2 and the harbor freight notcher would be a pretty good go getter.
      Same here I use Lenox hole saws as well.
      Use em till they can’t be used anymore lol.

    Jd2 sells the shaft separately for $45. Do you know if you can use the jd2 shaft on HF tube notcher? Seems like that would solve some problems. Thanks for a good vid too

      You would need to get that aluminum bearing support too from JD2 to be able to convert the HF one . I’ve thought about that several times. Glad you enjoyed!! Make sure you are subscribed and tell your friends about or channel we need as many subscribers as possible!! 🤝

    The true strength of the Beast is its ability to hold just about any piece of metal at any angle using the clamps on the side of it (tubes rarely only have one bend). You seemed to have totally missed the reason to upgrade.

    hey bro I got a question with the JD2, you can cut 45º with a saw of 3" on the JD2 notcher??

    • @HoustonKilby
      @HoustonKilby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes just barely. I had to put a 3” hole saw on it just now to test it.

    What brand of hole saw are you getting the best service out of

    • @HoustonKilby
      @HoustonKilby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lenox but they expensive , I’ve tried harbor freights and I’ve tried craftsmen. harbor freight is to short of a hole saw to do long notches. Craftsman seems ok I’ve only used 2 of them so far

      Try Morse hole saws

    Wouldn't a drill press with a table clamp be easier? you have the leverage of the press and the clamp holds your work. Am I missing something?

    • @HoustonKilby
      @HoustonKilby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can’t get certain types of bends in around the drill press. Does the press work yes but most presses I’ve had issues with verses just chuck a drill up to the tube notcher. Plus the main point a tube notcher can do many different angles of notches and do them constantly vs a clamp on a drill press. Just what I’ve found with it.
