Awesome video. We don't like the handle on the post as well and mods for this kit are in the works. The first mods would be a new low pro handle, a thread adapter for smaller hole saws, ball bearing replacement guide and a more robust clamp. Next year this kit should be a beast! All good things take time. Keep it up man.
Washers or a spacer plate under the clamp will center it. You could also make different thickness clamp spacers to offset the pipe further for different offset cuts.
This press has worked like a charm for my projects th-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!
Instead of grinding on the V part. Shim up the arbor holder. With the amount of adjustment you have to move the entire notcher assembly up/down on the stand bracket, you should not have an alignment problem with the drill press. Since the drill press can rotate also it will work, just have to fiddle with it like before to get everything lined back up. Make it a big flat washer the size of the metal bearing holder and it will be just as strong as original and not just a small surface area of the washers taking all the forces applied to it.
great looking setup .. only thing I would do it oil the hole saw bit would save a bit of life in the cutting another tool they could add too that set up would be a extra leg like a tripod to hold up a long pipe if you have no friends to hold it ,, talking like a 4 ft or longer pipe the weight could tip the unit over or put stress on the unit would need to test it to know for sure ..thanks for the Video Red Beard ,,
For the ones who have used many different hole saws the Hercules hole saws are a awesome deal. They appear to be the closest thing out that compares to the Milwaukee ones and the Milwaukee ones are the best ones out in my opinion. But the Milwaukee ones are rather pricey.
I cut 2 3/8" holes in 1/2" plate with lennox bi metal hole saw that I have had for 10-12 years and it's still cutting, 250 rpm and dark pipe threading oil good vid thanx
You have all the good tools Red beard.I also like the fact that you actually read your comments unlike the other guys who I’m not going to mention.Keep up the great work.
I've got that drill press set up as a drill press normally, modified the same notcher to make it work. It needs a few mods on both to make them not bad. It's all about the hole saws themselves. Belt speed is one step on primary from stock. Stock belt catches too much, no torque.
I had to e same issue with my notcher. I shimmed it with paper under the tube holding bracket until it centered . If the notcher is cutting too high you could elongate the holes to the mount for it to raise .
You should have put a sim plate under the v notch clamp. Seen others here on YT that have done that, and the notches are spot on equal. Easily done. The trace the clamp base, and drill through holes. This is an edit. I wrote the first part before you mentioned it. Cheers
I can see that the drill press spindle/chuck compensates for the clearance of the shaft on the HF notcher , very impressive setup. I want one! I already have the HF notcher. All I need is the drill press and the kit. Thanks for the info . As always your channel is a Pipeline to great tech for the hobby. If you think it fits the purposes of your channel, it would be helpful to unravel the compatibility of the various components used in the karts, like 150, 200, 250, 300 cc etc. I am currently fabricating spindles to fit hubs with brake disks from a 150 cc kart. Do the spindle sizes and brakes change as the cc size gets larger? I haven't found data on this any where.
for the original height adjustment of the drillpress : maibe you can rotate the part that bolts to the original drill table and have the ajustment on the under side , should be a little more out of the way , can mount a lathe style metal wheel on it so it adjust eazier from the side doesnt seem to be a need to adjust the drill press part though putting a cart steeringwheel in place of the 3 quill levers might make the setup eazier to operate
I had the same issue with my notcher. Tractor Supply has really thin sheet metal you could use as shim stock under the vise. But it is still aggravating to have to deal with.
That's where your problem is, that's why it's cutting off like that, it's in the step where you mounted the pole with the gears to the stand, that bolt is not lined up properly, it's a single bolt, so you should be able to get it more level / straight. Like I said, look at it from the side, then you'll see that that the pipe with the gear isn't mounted level to the stand.
If you look at that from the side, you'll notice that that's not sitting level, there's something you got wrong with the bolting or the way it's tightened. That's why it's cutting like that.
I don't know if this is the place to ask a question but I'm going to put a Predator 459 on a golf cart. I went to a wrecking yard for golf carts and bought a gas transaxle with reverse as the cart I got was electric. Paid way to much but I guess they are expensive so now I need a drive clutch which one would you recommend? I found a 1 Inch bore but i'm a bit skeptical about using a taper adapter to fit the clutch to the shaft. Is there a better way? Thanks so much subscriber Larry Frazier.
Maybe a dumb question, but why would you want to mount the drill press sideways for notching tube vs just keeping it setup and a normal drill press and use the notcher with it vertically?
Don’t fool yourself Greg ! We watch this stuff on other channels or copied later by others. I’m not the only guy thinking ,What would Ol’ Red Beard do ? Tool builds are cooler than beans on Saturday. Every guy that builds this probably just gonna buy the stuff you recommend 😉.
Could I send you a 18hp duronmax motor to you with a 💩 load of upgrades and could you build it up for me? I would pay you obviously. Or better yet if you have one already and I could buy a motor off you? I want one for a drift trike with a side cart I attacted for my kids.. Need something with little power tho. For 2 ppl you know.. it's not much more weight there 80 pounds wet. That would be awesome if we could make something happen man. Love your channel man keep up the great work.
Hello, I always look at your posts, I also have a buggy in which I put a 650 rotax engine of Aprilia Pegasos. TH-cam channel I have several videos called buggy 250
Honestly now that I read community guidelines.. IDK if I can get you to help me if I asked or can you? You have a great channel I like your work so I want you to build a motor for me.. But I dont want TH-cam to violate you in any type of way shape or form. IDK GUESS LMK.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK REGARDLESS..
Take that notcher, and throw it in the garbage. You can do it faster by hand and just as accurate. That notcher is GARBAGE. If you're going to insist on a notcher, go to Rogue Fab and buy theirs.
Awesome video. We don't like the handle on the post as well and mods for this kit are in the works. Just a few washers under that brace bracket should center it up.
had to do that to mine. works great since I did it
im literally screaming at my phone... "Just Shim the Hold down clamp!" lol
I did exactly the same thing with mine 😂
@@WHITERIVERRAMBO same lol
Same here lol
Washers or a spacer plate under the clamp will center it. You could also make different thickness clamp spacers to offset the pipe further for different offset cuts.
This is exactly how I centered mine. It was off by .050
Mines the same. I just shimmed it with washers until it was centered
Drew up and 3d printed a clamp that sits in the 2 slots in the drill press table to hold tubing. Works like a charm for notching weld tokens.

I love the set-up... It looks to be steady and true. Well, once you get it dialed in. Keep up the great content.
What do you think of this setup? Back to normal content on Monday!
shim the holder off the base to centre it bro. just bought the same notcher.......enjoyed the tutorial. thanks!!
Instead of grinding on the V part. Shim up the arbor holder.

Not a bad looking setup at all. I’m considering going with that very same setup.
Nice looking setup
Greg that is a great set-up , thanks for sharing .
Excellent piece of equipment

Notcher looks awesome! I could use one of these for my shop for sure!
Really like this kit. One of those things you think to yourself " Why didn't I think of that?"
For the ones who have used many different hole saws the Hercules hole saws are a awesome deal. They appear to be the closest thing out that compares to the Milwaukee ones and the Milwaukee ones are the best ones out in my opinion. But the Milwaukee ones are rather pricey.
I love my Milwaukee hole dozers, now I think I need to add this setup to my arsenal
I cut 2 3/8" holes in 1/2" plate with lennox bi metal hole saw that I have had for 10-12 years and it's still cutting, 250 rpm and dark pipe threading oil good vid thanx
Put some washers under the black V that holds the pipe to raise it up
You have all the good tools Red beard.I also like the fact that you actually read your comments unlike the other guys who I’m not going to mention.Keep up the great work.

Thanks so very much for sharing that with us Red Beard’s Garage! Been enjoying your videos and please keep ‘em coming!
interesting setup ....hanging on to a drill motor can get dicey
You can fix the offset notch by making a sheet metal shim for the tube jack.
14:08 get some thin washers and shim it up ;)
Looks like it should work very well, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Awesome...Fun times.. Very slick ....
Sure it's adjustable. A couple shims under the vise and you're golden
You can shim it to get it centered
It’s the weight of the pipe pulling down the end of the pipe. A small roller to hold the other end of pipe will take care of height. Just try out
Great Video! I will definitely be building one of these. So much safer than using a Hand Drill
The current model pipe notcher as shown in this video is built a lot better then the old model.
You should have put a sim plate under the v notch clamp. Seen others here on YT that have done that, and the notches are spot on equal. Easily done. The trace the clamp base, and drill through holes.
This is an edit. I wrote the first part before you mentioned it. Cheers
i like that notcher,, lots
I put a grease zerk on the bushing block to pack that bushing area full of grease so it lasts longer.
Thanks for sharing. Useful build.
Gee Mister That's A Mighty Fine Notcher 👍☮️

Bravissimo 👏 ❤
Those are neat but I wouldn't trade my notch master for 10 of them.

Great tool idea to use the belt driven drill press so the very little chance of drill motor kick back
Could you put washers under the tubing clamp to raise it?
Widen that U clap and put a thread rod Y axis so you can move the V clap up and down
If you shim under the vice you can even that notch up.
I think that drill press needs a stage 2 tillitson lol
All it needs Is a small oiler and catch basin and it would be perfect never have to spray the bit.
That's where your problem is, that's why it's cutting off like that, it's in the step where you mounted the pole with the gears to the stand, that bolt is not lined up properly, it's a single bolt, so you should be able to get it more level / straight. the bolts are for your hight ajust on the plate
Add vertical adjustment and I’ll buy it
you can shim your arbor with washers
Can you just put some washer under the bolts that hold the tube to make it Center?
If you look at that from the side, you'll notice that that's not sitting level, there's something you got wrong with the bolting or the way it's tightened. That's why it's cutting like that.
I would like to know where did you get the plate to mount the drill press on
Badass!
Cut one side of the vee to raise or lower the centerline.
the two bolts that hold the block that drive mounts to... PUT A WASHER UNDER IT, lol. you space it up that way and center your cut...
It's all you have to do is grind one side of the v that holds the tube to fix that offset.
I don't know if this is the place to ask a question but I'm going to put a Predator 459 on a golf cart. Any updates? Things you would change? Modifications?

What kind of torque converter would you recommend for predator engine ?
Washers under the clamp bed fixes the offset.
Washers or old shims could be a cheep ish fix
What kind of flywheel would you recommend for predator engine ?
Interesting idea. Y’all should check out rogue fab versa notcher
why not shim under the holder, it looks like it's bolted on to the plate.
SIC!!👍🏿👍🏿😮😮
I had to shim my notcher a bit. Then got about 6 uses and the bushings shot craps
We are working on a replacement for that. Also grease and good alignment help to keep it going longer. Did you try replacing the bussing?
My harbor freight tubing notcher starts the cut and the bushing got like 2cuts then it doesn't drill center wow
@@juniorbeginnerbeginner1790 We are working on an upgrade for that. so far ours is still going. Did you use any oil or grease on it?
14:10 just make different thickness plates bubby.
What’s the size of the mounting plate
Well yeah,shim it up dood
❤tanks info nya
The versa notcher is way more flexible from rogue fabrication and I believe th price Is about the same
Washers?
Nice to c a notcher for a broke fool like me lol
Could I send you a 18hp duronmax motor to you with a 💩 load of upgrades and could you build it up for me? I would pay you obviously. 👍
First time ive ever heard holesaws called bits 😅
Why don't you add a shim under it
All you got to do is put some washers under the clamp
I must be a real loser have no friends to help!😂
You can build a better tube clamp then that one is.
Where the 999cc go kart red beard
👍💪🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇩
shim the pipe clamp
I think I'd just keep using your own built one, why try a few fix something that's not broken?

Shim the holder
Every part in this video is now obsolete
I bought that drill press junk couldn't even drill through metal with it
Well I just cut through metal with it so maybe you didn't have it set up right.
You need to learn to sharpen drill bits and you will ever have any issues like that ever again
Hey red you looking for anybody with some good fabrication skills 20 years of welding
They where brand knew kobolt bits
Have you check belt tension?
Stupid arbor!🤣
