Geoff usually gives a little speech at the end of his videos. Geoff released his new video,. Wicked Game, last Friday. It is absolutely wicked beautiful. Yeah you missed the end as others have said. And yes, do Oogie Boogie! Their arrangements are top tier and it’s just one of the many reasons this group is my absolute favorite! ❤
I never even watched the movie, but Oogie Boogie man was the first song I ever heard from Voiceplay and ive been obsessed with them since. This band is amazing! React to EVERYTHING. Especially Nothing Else Matters and the Halo cover....two of their best!
This is per @JillPeterson-dr6ox from another one that reacted to the same song. This song was inspired by an actual medical emergency that Earl (the guy in the hospital bed, and High Tenor of the group (he left the group for personal reasons in 2020)) So a brief explanation of the story line: Earl is in the hospital and his husband (real life husband) places a gold coin around his neck to pay the God's of Death for passage to the afterlife. The four Gods of death from different religions/cultures. Layne - Guardian, cross between Nordic and/or Greek Gods Eli - Yama Nirvana, Hindu God of Death J None - Anubis, Egyptian Gid who weighs your life to the feather of truth (if you're heart is lighter then you get to go to heaven, you're heart is heavier then your soul gets devoured, and if they are equal then it means you might have unfinished business and can choose) Geoff - Baron, Voodoo God who can choose if you're allowed to even die (he has to dig your grave or you can't die). He is also a healer and can heal any human illness at a cost. So the three (Eli/J None/Layne) just want to do their jobs and escort Earl to the underworld. But Geoff notices the scales and wants to give Earl a chance, going so far as to protect him from Layne's sword. In the end Earl decides to returns to the living and banishes the others leaveing Geoff for the end where they exchange a brief nod as if saying "see ya later". Earl wakes up and the gold coin is missing, Taken by the Baron as payment. Sorry if this is a little long. Thanks for your reaction 😊
This is SUCH a fun piece!! I was not a huge fan of Earl, but he absolutely SLAYS this piece!! For your OWN benefit, go back and watch the end. As other mentioned, there is a break... but it wasn't over. With VoicePlay, I suggest always waiting for the credits to roll. 😉 As to what else??? I really think you would enjoy the Zombies vs. the Hillbillies. When VoicePlay AND Home Free go at it, it's SO great!!! Loved your reaction!
I am so glad you got to this one. I loved this one, because they got a lot of my favorite ones in here. You did just miss the very end of the video. I think you'd enjoy it.
This was one of the last ones that Earl appeared in, and it was after a health scare. The other four characters are representing Lords of the underworld. Geoff is on one side and is Baron. In the voodoo faith, he is the loa (minor god) who is called upon for healing and resurrection. He is often at the crossroads between the living and the dead. (I looked it up.) The other three are greedily awaiting Earl to pass away so that they can whisk him off to their various underworlds. So I see it as a battle for his soul between undecided Geoff on one side and the other three. And that plays out with the way the stage is set, and especially during the mashup of We are the Champions and Another one Bites the Dust. (So darn clever🤯). Eli comes over and gets in Geoff’s face for a minute who just sends him back to the other side. And then Earl recovers, vanquishes the spirits (Geoff last). If you rewatch that with this theory in mind the story is so much more meaningful. Another viewer pointed out that Baron requires payments for his services. In addition to being able to heal someone, he is also the one that decides whether or not someone dies. In the very beginning Nick, Earl’s real life husband, places a gold medallion around his neck. At the end when Earl recovers, (the part you missed) the medallion is gone as payment.
I love he story that they have working with the songs. You have 3 goods of death judging him, while one god of life and death (baron) who is trying to show him there is a way back to life.
Very good analysis of this excellent Queen medley! Voiceplay is great generally, but they really excel in the theatrical performance department. As far as the "Oogie Boogie" song goes, I think you'll enjoy it even not having seen the movie. Perhaps it will inspire you to watch the very unique film. I'll definitely enjoy watching your reaction! 👍
@redheadedneighbor you could opt to double react to the song from the movie, since it's available by itself in youtube land, and then VoicePlay's cover after.
I love the story of this one. You have 4 death gods, three want to claim the soul (Earl) and one (Geoff's Baron) wants him to survive. You can see it in the way Geoff is on one side while Eli, J None and Layne are on the other for the majority of the songs.

You missed the touching monent at the end where Earl wakes up and his real-life husband greats him back from the dead. If you haven't already I recommend going back and re-watching. If you already have I recommend re-watching again just for fun. So yes the arrangements are spectacular Layne and Eli went through the entire catalog of Queen music/lyrics and created this story. As noted they are portraying various gods if death. Layne - Guardian is either from Nordic or Greek (possibly both) mythology whose job is to gaurd the afterlife so souls don't return to the living without cause. J None - is Anubis from Egyptian mythology who weighs your soul against the feather of truth. If your heart is heavier then the feather your soul is devoured, if it is lighted then you move on to heaven. If they weigh the same then you have unfinished business and you are able to return. Eli - Yama Nirvana from Hindu Mythology who escorts the dead to the afterlife (sorry I'm not as familiar with this god as the others). Geoff - Baron from Haitian Voodoo mythology he is the one who allows you to die. Basically if he refuses to dig your grave you don't die. He is also a healer and can heal any human illness. When J None/Anubis weighs Earl's heart the scales are balanced catching the attention of Geoff/Baron. The others just want to do their jobs and escort Earl to the underworld/afterlife. Layne/Guardian is just chillin tell J None/Anubis pushing his sword at him to do his job. It became obvious that Geoff/Baron has decided to give Earl a chance to return, but he has to take the chance. Going so far to protect Earl from Layne's/Guardian's sword. In the end Earl decides to return to the living and banishes the others leaveing Geoff/Baron for last. That little nod of recognition between the two is kind of a see ya later (so much communication in one look). In the end Earl wakes up and sees his loving husband and the gold coin that was placed around his neck in the beginning is gone. The Baron/Geoff might be able to heal, but he doesn't do anything for free. This is just kinda a basic story line the fans have come up with through the years. In a nutshell:
Queen prided themselves on being a LIVE band, and are actually the only band that was known for being even BETTER live than in-studio… So, a general good Rule Of Thumb is EITHER:
If your policy is to react to ONLY ONE example of any given song, then CHOOSE LIVE when possible.
OR:
React to the studio version AND a live performance, BECAUSE:
EVERY Queen song is DIFFERENT… between STUDIO vs LIVE.
(They always “reworked” songs for live shows, because Freddie said “if we’re going to play just the same as in the studio, we may as well just stand up cardboard cutouts of ourselves and play the record!”
And even with the live renditions…
Queen also always “tweaked”/altered their songs from one show to another, so folks who attended multiple concerts would always have a DIFFERENT experience. (Which is why you’ll see Queen fans ARGUE over which live performance of certain songs is better… because the renditions are also COMPLETELY different.)
