Thanks for putting this all together, really helpful to have this in once place. The cost of buildings and the option to adapt card buildings is really helpful for new entrants to the hobby.
Paper buildings are a great way to avoid the high cost of most plastic kits, especially those from Walthers.
I have the low relief warehouse from Scale Scenes on my backdrop where there wasn't much room next to a siding. Luckily it isn't too European looking (unlike their other buildings) since I'm in Canada and model North American trains. I did add a background image so the warehouse looks like it goes much further back and added interior LEDs and an LED over the door.

Super video, scalescenes is a great site, I am a great fan, John is great, I have used his kits since he started, the free kits are great. But even more all the kits are great, N , 00, and 0 . I have built 00 and N kits, and the options are limitless, and are a great value, if you buy a kit , you change scales, adjust the printer settings for scales, only used 00 to N but fantastic portable changes. Very useful video, you have found some great links, some cardboard buildings can look very flat but using the free downloads gives you a chance to have a play and see how you can improve them! Chandwell has some very good techniques for building card buildings, so this would give a good basis on how to employ some of his techniques without it costing a lot of money. All the best Tony.
Agree 100%. The thing with Chadwell is that as long as you’ve got a computer/laptop and a printer Michael shows you how to make models for pretty much nothing. Free design programmes, free textures, using cereal boxes and old container acetate…..it’s a really excellent channel

Could you do a video of how to reduce an oo printout into N, please?
When you press print then a box should come up with printer settings. Select 49% size, it will probably be saying default or print to page normally (if wanting to print an OO file into N scale).
Try smart models. They have excellent kits and also sell lasercut and 3d printed stuff as well for O, OO and N.
Ahh yes, very good....I just checked it out. I didn't know about that site. There is a free high quality signal box there too.

1mm card is great for the bits you want to be steong enough not to bed. Cereal card is good for medium thickness card. It's worth buying a pack of 1mm greycard to get going with.
Use whatever you can get that is low cost to you. You might have access to some blocks of wood or off cuts, you might have found some thin sheets of ply in a skip, or from a parcel. Machinery shops often buy new machines that come in a ply box. Old realestate signs-they are generally made of Flute-board -waterproof and sturdy. Small sheets of MDF (medium density fibre board) are quite inexpensive from a hardware store. 3mm sheet (1/8 ") is best.
Flute board and plywood generally has a texture to the surface, so that will show through paper, if you don't want the texture showing through, use printed card rather than paper-don't use a lot of glue because that softens the card.
Corrugated cardboard boxes are not a good idea-they aren't made to last, they have texture and tend to go out of shape after a few months.
The best card is used in the art world-backing from framed art work is thick acid free card-buy them for cheap at a second hand store.
Of-course you probably know to reuse clear display windows in many products, but also consider using waterproof printer paper-that's plasticky and semi transparent-then you can print the frames on the sheet and light the inside and it will give a pleasing muted internal glow.
I remember seeing printed sheets of brick walls etc in the 60s.
And even if the downliad is free. The building still won't be.
