It's time for "Mr. Buddy: The Movie" Just kidding, but for real, here's the longest video I've ever made! I've been working super hard on this one, so I hope you guys like it! (I'll be over there, passed out, if you need me)
I'm honestly surprised that the three dragons of Norse mythology, Nidhoggr, Jormungandr and Fafnir, weren't represented as the starter pokemon. Nidhoggr could have been the grass one and learned some pretty potent poison type or life draining moves later to reflect his nature as a devourer of the dead, Jormungandr could have been the water one since Odin cast him into the ocean where he eventually grew so large he encircled the world, and Fafnir could have been the fire type since he generally showed all the stereotypical traits of a dragon and was the big inspiration for Tolkien's Smaug.
LadyMeiun I thought they were sorta based on them. One of the images was Nidhoggr, another was a snake. I figured they were Chinese and Japanese in appearance for aesthetic variety and because Nidhoggr and Jormungandr are typically portrayed as serpentine in some sense. I’m not sure about Fafnir though. There were other Dragons in Nordic Mythology though.
You know that the Kalos legendaries are based off of this trio right? It's a nice idea but Mr. Buddy probably didn't do it because it's been done before.
SUDDEN IDEA: -The Prophecy is not referring to the player, but us actually talking about Sigurd. Why this could work: -Sigurd obtained one of the Starters from the egg, trained and befriended it over time. -After Sigurd's change of heart, he makes it his mission to change Team Berserk and stop their Dragon-killing tyrannical ways. -He promises to fight against Team Berserk alongside the player if they ever attack the region again. I know it's just a weird little fan idea, but I think it's pretty good. It would subvert the cliché of the prophecy talking always about the main protagonist and it would be a cool plot twist. The player is not the one referred to in the prophecy, but instead is the one who acts as the catalyst for the prophecy to come to fruition. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this idea, Mr.Buddy. But I know that you're a busy man and I'm just a random fan so I know that might not be very likely. Feel free to take this idea and use it, or some version of it, in the continuation to Team Berserk's story if you want to. I won't mind! (But again, just sharing this idea).
As a Norwegian I approve of this message. Seriously though, I wasn't planning on watching all of it, but ended up doing so as your enthusiasm was contagious. Well researched, and a lot of great ideas made this a very enjoyable watch!
Probably because it's in Japan, and Japanese don't really understand English. Even simple words that everyone else understands aren't something you can expect the average Japanese guy to know. So they don't really understand what he is even saying. That might be be why.
I have two suggestions 1. You could make a sequel where Finland, Åland, faroe islands and iceland are in it like how they expanded unova in black/White 2 2. You could make Gotland a legendary location since it is the placera where the biggest viking treasure was found.
Dear Gamefreak. PLEASE take notes! Seriously, for someone who absolutely loves cold regions, especially Scandinavia, a scandinavian themed Pokémon Region would be a dream come true.
another dream come true would be a region based off Antarctica! A special south pole monument, towns and cities, penguin pokemon, the southern lights, etc.
No offense, but based on Gamefreak's recent track record, they'd butcher it. They ruined Galar & they were (a bit) wanting in Alola. They just care about money, and amassing it. It sucks, it REALLY does, but what can you do?
I can't even begin to think how much time must have gone into this. I'm really floored at the amount of detail, lore, and worldbuilding put into this video. I was stunned by its length at first, but I watched it all the way through and I'm really glad I did. This was brilliant! I subscribed in a heartbeat. Keep up the phenomenal work!
That sand dune in denmark could actually be interesting. You said that it moves around due to wind, so there could be a mechanic in game where its position changes based on the day of the week revealing new areas to explore.
Norway, the perfect location for Trainer "Red", so many snow/ice covered mountains to select among... By the way thanks for doing my home country or at least one of them (hint: the other is the land of the hussars) :)
I dunno how many people will make it to the end of this video, but there's a part where you can make your own team of Pokemon for the region, so reply to this comment with the teams you would use for a Scandinavian Region! (Where all my Lavendor fans at?)
My evil team would be Team Calor(Calor is Latin for heat I think)they will try to get rid of all the snow and ice in the region and try to make it a warm, normal region with no snow. They will use fire and fighting types to beat all the ice types. The 1st admin will use a slugma and a machop. They second will use a heatmor, ponta and pancham.Thwy final admin will use a Blaziken, houndoom and gurdurr. Then the leader of Team Calor uses conkeldurr, mega houndoom, arcanine, machamp and macargo. The reason the leader want to get rid of all the ice pokemon, ice and snow is because when they were a kid they were walking with their family when a wild weavil attacks them the leaders mom and dad save them but also die and from that day they have hated ice pokemon, snow and ice.If you read all of this thank you for your time!!😊
Mr Buddy, will be Iceland and Groenland a kind of orange island for the scandivia or will be the region composing Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia a kind of Johto to Scandivia?
This is one of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam. I'm not kidding. The amount of research you put into this is incredible and everything fits together so well. I really want this to be an actual game!
It would be great to have a regional version of Gyarados inspired in Jormunandr!! Just an idea to think about not to depreciate your incredible work and patience. I admire you!!
Here's a definition of Scandinavia (from a Scandinavian): Scandinavia = Sweden, Norway, Denmark Nordics = Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands Scandinavia is based around the Scandinavian Mountains, which is on the border between Norway and Sweden.
As someone who has great interest in both Scandinavia and Pokémon, this video is really cool to see. :D After getting 2 regions based off of tropical locations, I really want Game Freak to take a 180 and make a region like this. Keep up the good work. :)
Wiimonkey2 the issue i found before watching this video (as a swede) is i can’t find any place where fire pokemons would make sense unless we would count iceland as scandinavia. Due to few Active volcanoes and warm places.
still in the first 8 minutes, but I've watched other videos of yours and I really think Nintendo should hire you!!!! I absolutely adore your process and level of detail and passion you put into these!!!!!
“I’ll only focus on the countries always considered Scandinavia” Me, a Finn, hoping he would ignore that technically Finland isn’t Scandinavian: I cri everytim
I really appreciate you making a video this long. I love how you are dedicated to doing Pokémon videos and making your fans/subscribers happy. Thank you
I would freaking love playing this. The story, the geography, the designs, I love it all. (And I almost died laughing when I saw you made Trofors an area, it's my hometown, so that was super fun considering it has a population of 900 people )
Honestly, I didn't expect to watch and stay interested the entire video, but you have definitely proved me wrong! I'm very impressed with every aspect of this video, especially how it relates to the real world, and would love to see this as a real game.
This could really become my favorite Pokemon game of all time. You really created an awesome, vivid and goosebump-worthy storyline. Gamefreak should take your script and start developing or I'll start a petition or a crowdfund I don't care haha. Massive compliment to you and everyone involved!
Ever since I played XY, I've wanted a Pokémon region based on Scandinavia. I thought it would be cool with a place that is mostly covered in snow and ice. And I think your ideas are absolutely EXCELLENT!! Not just because I'm Swedish, but because they are all different and very clever! First of all, to have the starter Pokémon being all dragon type is awesome! It's new and makes it more interesting. And receiving them as an egg instead of a lv 5 Pokémon is brilliant! I really want that aspect in the next game now. Also, having them actually being important to the main plot is fantastic and I'm almost angry at Nintendo for not thinking of this earlier!! I liked the characters you come up with and the new Pokémon are absolutely perfect! I LOVE a legendary based on Sleipnir, and the Scandinavian form of Aegislash is genius. This video was WELL worth an hour of my life. Amazing job! And a BIG kudos to the artists. The art in this video is stunning.
Um...No? Random, rude person? I never said that I thought Scandinavia was mostly covered in snow and ice. I DID however say that I'm Swedish, so from that context you could logically assume that I'm perfectly aware of what amount of snow and ice there usually are around here. The point I was trying to make was that in comparison to other Pokémon games, where snow is usually restricted to one town or one cave per world, it would be COOL with a Pokémon game that is the opposite. Where most areas are covered in snow and ice instead. And as Mr Buddy has shown, a region based on Scandinavia would fit perfectly considering large parts of Norway and Sweden having a subarctic climate. I wasn't expecting to having to explain this in such detail, but I hope this will ease your easily triggered mind.
It sounds like Sinnoh region of Europe, I Like It. Also I want the counting of routes to not start at 1 like in Hoenn and Sinnoh since Europe has open borders.
Scandinavian/ Viking themed Pokemon Step 1: Catch your Pokemon Step 2: Train your team to be the very best Step 3: Hop in a longboat Step 4: Row, row, row your boat Step 5: Raid England!
Interesting thing about the starters is they have an important parallel with the Unova starters, as they too are based on European, Chinese, and Japanese royalty respectively
When this scandinavian story ends it could continiue in the other nordic countries Finland and Iceland there could be more Pokémon and some new gyms and the story continiues... like after the events on this video.
What about making a direct sequel, with the areas of Finland and the part of Russia that's there as a second accessible region (like Kanto in Gold and Silver), and Iceland as Team Bezerk's homeland and a third mini-region in and of itself? A region currently ruled by the evil team has never been done before.
What if it is a sequel that happens like ten to twenty years after this. The main character would be the son/daughter of Sigurd while there are still some members of Team Berserk left (maybe leaded by Kára or her child). Sigurd wants you to defeat her because he is not able to do ist himself. He tells you that you have to travele to a new country. So maybe the story will start in Finland but you have to travel to Iceland maybe even greenland to complete the story. Because of the very unique landshape of Iceland there is a legendary that will only appear there. At least that sounds like some kind of story...
Just wanted to say: I love this, I'm Norwegian and I just can't believe how well made this is! I love the Old Pokemon variants, they would fit right into our climate, I honestly think you improved Stantler (never liked that Pokemon). I like the idea that you played around with "hulders", and incorporated that into the ralts line, while making an entirely new "Nøkken". I saw it throughout the video before you revealed it, and I recognized it right away, which was really fun! although the concept is interesting, im not really a fan of the dragon starterline. Love the legendaries, and I love the designs on all the Pokemon, they are so well made. The story behind everything (Pokemon, lore, cities etc.) and how it ties together is just amazing! Never stop what you are doing please!
I love how much work you put into this. It really shows how passionate you are about this video. The amount of research is just staggering and I always love hearing the hypothetical games’ plot, since that’s my favorite part of your videos (English major speaking). The characters are really strong and the way that you get the starter is super interesting. I’d definitely love to see Berserk’s story continue into another region, kinda like how N came back for B2W2. My team would probably be the fire starter, the regional bird, the snover line, the regional shinx line, and the phantump line. Not very balanced, but whatever these are the ones I like. Though honestly I’d be happy with any starter. I love any Pokémon that starts off adorable but later on looks like something I’d ride into battle on. For a future regional video, would you be interested in a region based on countries in Central America or the Caribbean? Just a very general suggestion.
I love how much thought, love, mythology, and backstory you gave to this region. I absolutely love your "What if" series is amazing and I love hearing your "fanfiction" and the ideas you can come up with. Keep up the good work! This is certainly the longest, but best region idea you've come up with. Good luck topping it and good luck on your other videos.
This is a really awesome idea! I’m a huge mythology nerd, so this makes me super happy! I love all the designs and lore! Also I don’t know if this was mentioned but Sleipnir is the son of Loki in Norse mythology.
This is such a well made video! As someone from Sweden I have seen this video floating around for a while now but never clicked on it because 'ugh, yeah, vikings, we get it'. As much as I LOVE our mythology, it tends to be very hollywood-ized and most of our other culture completely ignored and therefor it´s really predictable, but this was so well rounded! I love it!!
I kind of want to see a region where the player and one of the rivals start off in the evil team, and steal the starters, and then you see the error of your ways and defect, and your rival will (who stays in the team) treats you how like blue treated red, and becomes an admin in the evil team. I think that might be cool
NINTENDO GET ON THIS. HIRE THIS MAN. no no like my favorite region is Sinnoh simply because I love the snowy mountain cities like. I NEED this region that is all snow it would be gorgeous. This is so well thought out with the research on the places and mythology and the story is really good like wow, I've always wanted to create a whole Pokemon region but never had the time for something this but YOU DID IT it's amazing! I need to play this game like, wow Also I saw someone give the idea for a Korean region and I must agree as long as there is a reference to Kpop and BTS xD AND IF YOU EVER NEED ART FOR ONE OF THESE VIDEOS I VOLUNTEER AS A TRIBUTE
I'm from Sweden, and we learned in school than Scandinavia was Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and thoose conuntires togehter with Iceland, Finland and the islands counts at "The North", and people often confuse them. You've done an awesome job on this, I'd love to play through this, Nintendo, get on it. However I feel you left out the indigonus nomad same people that hear reindeer in the north. Maybe add a town based on one of their camps.
Oh, did not know that, or maybe I forgott, We learned this in 4rth grade, which was almost 11 years ago for me, and then we never brought it up again. I'll remember this.
S P O O G sorry if i sounded rude lmao. that's not an excuse though, because even though we do call it Fenno-Skandien in Denmark, my uncle who is married to a swedish guy, always told me that it's called 'Fenno-scandien' in Sweden as well.
I think it would be cool if there was a post story episode based on Raganrok, where Sigurd returns and warns of a new strong trainer trying to end the world. The player trainer, rival and Sigurd would have to find the All-Tree and travel through to the different worlds of Norse mythology to stop the new evil trainer. While on the All-Tree each of your traveling trio encounter and catch one of the three Kalos legendaries. The three must then use the power of the three Kalos legendaries to stop the new evil leader and evil Pokémon, based on Fenris Wolf.
You know, after watching so many of your creative videos, I've been thinking that GameFreak would have alot to gain by hiring you. You have so many incredible ideas that would honestly be amazing to play through, and I'm sure your creativity would meld wonderfully with GameFreak's. And because of what SEGA recently did for the creation of Sonic Mania, I'm sure it's not impossible at all. Good job with this, Mr.Buddy. Keep up the great work. You're the reason I have been working on my own Pokemon story.
Finn here. You did right leaving us out of the region: Not only are we not part of Scandinavia. (It'd be called Fenno-Scandinavia if you count us in.) But we also have entirelydifferent mythology to draw on. Oh right, you asked opinions on what location next. I guess I'm obliged to suggest Finland. :P
Denmark, Norway and Sweden are Scandinavia. the Faroe islands are part of Denmark. Finland and Iceland, along with Scandinavia are the Nordic Countries. People including those latter three are confused and mistaken, much like people often mess up Great Britain, the British Isles, the United Kingdom etc. when they haven't taken the time to learn the different distinctions properly. So yes, Your choice to stick to Norway, Sweden and Denmark was the correct one. As far as your northermost locations go, on top of the northern lights, you could maybe also include the eternal night during winter and the midnight sun in the summer. On the topic of functional seasons, google "Jotunheimen høst" and see what gorgeous stuff could be done for fall. Also another idea is to model the shrines for the legendaries to look like ancient stave churches. Overall though I am absolutely astounded at how much solid research you've done on scandinavian geography and landmarks! I. LOVE. EVERY. SINGLE. POKEMON. SO MUCH. especially the dragon starters. they are. the best. And the story too. It's so fantastic. I love it so much. How did you even come up with all this? I want this game now. please.
This is very well done. My only complaint would be the starters. I love them being part dragon and how they tie into the story, I would just rather the fire type be based on a wyvern/Monsterous Nightmare/Noivern. Also, I think the water type should be more serpentine like traditional sea dragons from the area. Grass is good, though I would have it based more on Earth dragons, flightless wingless bulky creatures. Also, I love Sigurd's design. Props to the artist for showcasing him as an accomplished dragon hunter. He has Kommo-o scales for armor and his axe is 2 Haxorus jaw blades. Not sure who the jaw bone around his neck is from, but I am sure it is another dragon like Dragonite or Garchomp. Too bad he did not have a Salemence wing cape. All in all, amazing.
Fits in better with Scandinavian myth this way. Weren't really ancient Norse wyverns, and while their were Sea Serpents, (CoughcoughJormngundrcoughcough) they weren't prominent. Except Jormngundr. Who would really be a better Water/dark or maybe Water/poison honestly, living at the bottom of the world and being... Just, so, so evil. And really venomous. Not a dragon.
On Sigurd's design he has a Noivern's mane as his cape-thing too and I totally agree on the starters. You have plenty of room to base them all into Norse mythology.
HuskyCharmanderz ikr. What is a better source, a translated Wikipedia page or a person from the country of the mythology's origin, whom have been raised on stories of the mythos.
This video really pleased my Scandinavian narcissism. Really, really good job! Loved everything, although, it would be cool if some of the nothern parts of the region was based loosely on the sami people. They are a native people in Scandinavia who is very known for their reindeer herding. Still, amazing job, and I REALLY loved the pokémon inspired by Nøkken. The tale of Nøkken really freaked me out as I kid. Cheers, Jonas from Oslo
I kinda figured that's what the main characters were designed on, the bright colors and really fuzzy and serviceable design looked like a lot of the Sami pictures I've seen. Though, the idea of a town or society based around raising, taming, working, and nurturing (scandinavia) Stantlers and winter Sawsbucks in some homage to Xerneas would be awesome, and maybe an in game means of capturing a Xerneas like they did with Palkia/dialga/giratina in I want to say Kalos or so.
I love this. This made me come back to Pokemon, actually. Hehe. Um...If its ok, may you please do a *Chinese Region* ? Or maybe a *Korean Region* ? You don't have to, though. I understand. You probably wont see this comment anyway hehe. Anyway, I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for all your hard work. :3 I really wasn't expecting the channel creator to like this. Thank you. :3 Once more, thank you for all the love.
I think a region based on Korea would be a little... awkward for a Pokemon game, technically speaking, since Korea has some bad history with Japan. They invaded them during WW2, colonized it, and tried to erase Korean culture in favor of their own. That's why, until the year 2000, South Korea banned anything containing references to Japanese culture, and a handful of Pokemon episodes, among who knows what else, got banned as a result.
Just the fact that Stavanger was included made my heart swell, also weird hearing you talk about a street that I literally walked through today in a video like this, fun!
Wow. I'm only half way through the video but I already feel truly speechless. The amount of work and research behind this video is overwhelming but it's so much fun and interesting to watch. I love how you united the Scandinavian folklore with the Pokemon world. Also, I'm learning a lot! Like and new sub for you :).
oh I am SO hyped for this. im gonna add to this comment as i watch it so its gonna be a little disjointed and very very long. This actually came out to be like, a full-length essay, so in case you don't want to read all that here's a 4-point summary, aha: 1) I've always been kind of upset that I can't get an ice type in the early game, so I love the idea of a very snowy region. 2) The Norse-legendaries-in-France never made sense to me and I'm glad you brought up their connection here. Also, I really like Sublurk. 3) I love ALL these characters so much. Your stories are my favorite parts about your videos and Sigurd especially (and how HE is the one who fulfills the prophecy!) is just... wow. It's so good. 4) most of the rest of this is me gushing about how good this video is and posing random vaguely-related questions anyway. the actual essay i typed out is below. Starting with location! Oh yeah, it's always kind of bugged me that pokemon games only have icy or mountainous regions late-game, and only one area of snow? I never get an ice-type early on in game which means they rarely make it onto my final team. I'd love to have a real snowy region for once, or at least just get the chance to catch a snorunt earlier than RIGHT BEFORE THE E4 I love this group of bog pokemon. I mean all the organizational pokemon-per-area are good but, the bog ones especially, probably because again ghost types arent all that common haha (a sidenote, but the superhero-nerd side of me is hung on Thor: Ragnarok as a pokemon game. I'm not even sure how that would work. But related to that tangent, have you ever considered making "what if" videos based on preexisting franchises, like a crossover of sorts? as just a kind of example, my friend and I created an entire world based around the concept of Gravity Falls being part of the pokemon world, including the region layout, gym leaders, and plot, so it's definitely possible to put a very original twist on these things; it would just be really interesting to see you make a video about some other franchise taking place in the pokemon world, especially since it's a good excuse to deviate from the typical pokemon storyline of "beat the gyms, catch the legendary, be the champion" and make up whatever based on the source material; it forces you to plan the region around the characters instead of the characters around the region, too, which could be interesting. i also might have already asked you this so, sorry if it sounds like a repeat! this was a long tangent my apologies) A hometown that's actually on an interesting location that could be a gateway to a deeper mystery or transportation? Please? -and yes, early-game ice types!!! These places all sound so scenic. I can actually feel how much research and thought you put into this and it's absolutely amazing. (yess, ski resort...) ((your pronunciation of the cave made me laugh)) I love the idea of secret-base IKEA. And I totally agree on the call to make the bridge bigger to underline its importance. I was wondering when Valhalla was gonna come up- it makes perfect sense for a league area! Also, that art is amazing. Onto the new pokemon! I really appreciate how you tied in the XY legendaries into this world; it always kind of confused me that they put Norse-based creatures into France. I'm LOVING these ralts/kirlia/gardevoir designs; did you know that hulder were actually often enslaved by elves, and the tail was seen as a reason for them to be inferior? At least, that's one interpretation I've heard. And- ah yes, Mjolnir as Pokemon. Although, in my head Mjolnir would almost be a legendary or a standalone pokemon, mostly because it stands out the most as something that Thor and Thor alone can have, and there's tons of mythos about Mjolnir being stolen; a storyline about a legendary based on Mjolnir being stolen by an evil team would've fit right in. But I can't deny that these look cool. I love Sublurk. I want one. (wow, Wolverine? I thought this was a Thor video, not an X-men one; jokes, jokes) Ohhh I love these trolls! This was a great way to reference both types of trolls and to expand on fairy typing. TRIPLE DRAGON STARTERS!!!! AW YEAH!!!! I mean, it does make the starters feel somewhat homogenous or like eevee-varient ripoffs by dint of being different-typed versions of the same base, but you know what, I've waited long enough for a dragon type starter. Although, having only dragons to pick from at the start of your journey in an ice-filled region would pose an interesting challenge... (I want one of these fire starters- two. Ran and Shaw.) This boar looks so gorgeous. And yes, Loki's son- you left that out of the video, although I can guess why, aha- this is gorgeous as well. I might've made a catchable non-legendary based on Sleipnir (maybe a horse that gets more legs as it evolves?), but it definitely makes more sense for this guy to be a legend considering there's only one of him. (What, no Ratatoskr? A giant screaming squirrel wasn't good enough for you? (jokes!)) Into the story- this is my favorite part of all your videos. I'm so hyped. Woo! I love fanfictions! Hey, man, everything ever written is a fanfiction when you think about. Don't beat yourself up about it, your ideas are great! Man I love your lore. This isn't really a comment directly related to the video but the lore you make up is always so good. It's my absolute favorite part of all your videos. Fjolnir! I love him already. (is he Odin? wait, does that mean your rival is Thor? Or one of Thor's kids?) I would die for Sylvatica. I've needed a lore-based character for so long. This is SUCH a cool way to get your starter. Oh my goodness this is so creative and good? It's way more engaging than most games' "im a professor! here's 3 pokemon" shtick, aha- I love it! This prophecy thing is also such a great way to kickstart a quest. Sigurd is the villain... phenomenal. (is he wearing kommo-o scales?! rude!) I really like the idea that the evil team has, by default, an advantage over the player's starter, no matter what they choose. It raises the stakes a little more. The little berserk grunts popping up behind the stones was so funny to me. I don't know why it was very silly. AH YEAH THE VALKYRIE!!! (assorted yelling noises) I would die for her too. (Ohhh, the evil team having your starter's type advantage is such a good idea...) Evil weather legendary? Nah, just catch a castform. That'll definitely fix it. Aw, Sigurd redemption arc for best arc. Wait- if he actually has a redemption arc, does that make him the champion that saves the day and brings a new era, according to the prophecy? This is all speculation right now, I'm typing this as I hear about the battle for the boar. OH! I WAS RIGHT! I love you Sigurd. ([screaming] PEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAACE) I absolutely love this story... man, your stories are always amazing. Maybe Team Berserk even makes cameos in ""future"" regions, drifting from region to region like the vikings drifted from land to land. Gym leaders; does this Freyr guy offer any information on the boar legendary, seeing as it's technically Freyr's in actual north mythos? I've been waiting for Fafnir all video and I have not been let down. I've also been waiting for Loki all video- like, actually, wondering when he was gonna come up. And again, I have not been let down. Oh, and my team: Scandinavian Gardevoir, Sublurk, Ograss, Shuppet/Banette, Froslass/Glalie, and (of course) Ignizen. Is this a balanced team? Of course not. Are they my favorite pokemon in this region? Absolutely.
I’m not reading all that but I’m assuming long story short you love the time and effort in these videos and would want this to happen. I agree. I love the commitment
I loved your essay. I would also add Miltank as a regional variable too. Maybe more second generation variants as all the ones we had were from the first one. We already have Stantler so Girafarigg also needs one. And as you are going to need a fire type if you choose grass dragon starter, maybe fire type versions of Sentret and Furret? SO you have something for the early game. If not you are going to be destroyed.
I would be kinda cool if there was a scene that despite the bond between Sigurd and the starter, he understands that he got it through petty thievery and has to push himself to try and give it back. Then the professor says “no you can keep it” and Sigurd goes from distraught to ecstatic.
Captain Munchlax The jaw-necklace thing is most definitely, but I couldn’t tell ya which dragon it belongs to! The fur could also be a Drampa’s but maybe that’s a stretch on my part
I always imagined a Wolverine Pokemon as being a Dark type, though I thought of a new ability that capitalizes on its immunity to fear rather than its ability to cause it. Wild Heart - Makes the Pokemon Immune to distraction or intimidation.
Really good esspecially the character designs. I really liked the Professor. Also I picture something like Sigurd and Kara beeing in love. And her left arm looks unnatural there could be a backstory were the couple had a secret friendship with a Dragon-Type and one day the dragon got into a rage attacking Kara who lost an arm and while protecting Kara Sigurd also was injured and got scarred for life. And so Sigurd began to hate Dragon Types and started his siege against them. Kara follows him out of love but doesn't like to see him drowned in his hate but is determined to help him to seek revenge because she knows that he is angry not because of himself but for her. Just because I like a little bit of romance in Storys ^^.
Just wanted to stop by and say this is one my favorite Mr. Buddy videos, even all these years later. I love the story and the starters have special place in my heart.
Im truly impressed by how much detail you put into this! All the characters and the story were very charming, and I feel like Ive learned a little more about my Scandinavian roots from your research! This would make for a really fun and unique addition to the Pokemon series ^^ keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much for making this! I really hoped for a What if Norway was a pokemon region after watching the Australia video. I made a comment about it 3 times i think, and finally the video is here! Good choice to make it Scandinavia instead of just one of country, it just makes it better :) Awesome video! Really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work! (i am from Norway btw)
Hey! Likte veldig godt mytologien han har brukt, historien han valgte og grunnen til at Team Beserk gjorde so dei gjorde. Veldig bra gjort! Trur heile videoen e min favoritt del egentlig
A region based on Italy maybe? Can you imagine a city based on Venice? I've been looking up cities that would make good inspiration and it's hard to find any that wouldn't. Rome, Milan, Pisa, Naples, Orvieto, Sassari, Taranto.
I'd love to see what you make out of my Central European Area including for example the Benelux States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and so on :3 Also, I love the Regional variations you came up with, the Dragon Eggs (got heavy GOT vibes here) and the legendaries. The villains, the gym leaders and Elite 4 plus champ are pretty cool as well :) I miss a character based on Pippi Longstocking or a bunch of other Lindgren characters, though ^^'
How about a region based on Italy? Plenty of Coastal towns, a volcano, the Alps to the North, and a large central city complete with a Colosseum? It's practically made to be a region, plus imagine an evil team with a Rennaisance theming? That would be super cool
As in italian, it's perfect. tho there are more places to be noted: the sleeping vulcano, the caves, the high road "we are full of them" . and for the Evil team rennaisance.. i think not. especialy since they are tryin to abolish Art in high and middle school . T:T please, we already are fighting for that
Dakota Harmon What about a mafia-based team (not the actual mafia, their role and location are far too limited). Also I'm pretty sure a Pokemon spin-off game had a region based on a part of Northern Italy.
kaeden le , That would be an interesting one to work with if they could differentiate from Team Rocket enough. It might just be that I haven't played a Kanto game in forever, but they were really mafia-esque if I remember right
Dakota Harmon The motives could be different to mirrior the real life mafia in that they literally run the town they operate in, and if you own a small business in said town and you don't pay the mafia... lets just say you're not gonna have a fun time, also the politicians in the town have active ties to the mafia, so usually they turn a blind eye to these crimes. The mafia (interestingly the 'mafia' didn't name themselves the mafia if I remember, they don't even acknowlage the name) also protects their clients and their client's property through means of fear and threats. So maybe this evil team can be a lot more down to earth.
It was fairly obvious that Fjolnir was based on Odin, but all the little touches you put into it were really good. His name is Mjlonir with an F, which is the name of Thor's hammer. Odin would disguise himself as an old man to wander the world and gather knowledge, which is convieniently how he looks here, walking stick and all. One of his eyes is covered up, referencing the one he took out to be allowed to drink from Mimir's well. And his main pokemon Lucario. Steel and Fighting both embody the Viking mentality really well, and its aura abilities, which allow it to gain insight into another person or thing keys in with Odin's god of wisdom mentality. Nice work
stever1705 dude, I caught most of that, the only thing I didn’t catch was the locario thing, thank you so much for explaining that, it made me love this video even more
Right. Plus are you referring to Jormungandr, Fenrir, Dainn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, Durapror, Vedrfolnir and others like Ratatoskr, Nidhogg, Fafnir and The Frost Giant Thrym? I could even imagine what Pokemon types the 9 worlds would be like. Asgard would be Fairy/Flying, Vanaheim would be Flying, Alfheim would be Psychic/Grass/Fairy, Midgard would be Normal, Nidavellir would be Steel/Rock/Fairy, Svartalfheim would be Dark/Fairy, Jotunheim would be Ground, Muspelheim would be Fire and Niflheim would be Ice. Don't forget a 10th world, Helheim which would be a Ghost type world.
Beautiful. As a norwegian myself this was purely an outstanding and well-made video. I really wish this would be an alternative for a new region. The region would have some overall better oppourtunities for an original and innovating storyline than (in my opinion) other regions decided to go with
The cut scene where the old guy reveals he's Odin would be sick! he would drone on about gathering strength for the coming storms all the while slowly standing up as opposed to slouching all the time all the while dropping piece of clothing off to reveal the armor underneath eventually he turns you with his eyepatch now adorned with the all seeing eye before challenging you with the line "show me the strength that earns you the right to sit here in Valhalla"
Mr Buddy I love the series and I'd like to recommend Ireland for a future region. It may be small but it has large environmental & geographical diversity and an interesting culture, tradition and mythology. The region could have little bits of all earlier regions (except deserts) and unique bogs and deserts
The amount of work and research you did for this video is simply amazing. I love the backstory and integration of both the starters and legendaries into the main story as well as tying the evil team directly into these details. Incredible work! I will definitely watch your other videos! :)
Fun fact, Loke is Sleipner's mom. He turned into a female horse and got impregnated by a stallion. So that is why Sleipner is so special. Perhaps the Loke gymleader could have some kind of connection to the horse legendary?
Froyduhr Norse and Discord's Daughter are right about this. Loki turned into mare and got impregnated by a stallion named Svadilfari, later giving birth to Sleipnir. This gives Loki one of his titles "Mother of monsters". Like mentioned before, Loki is father to Fenrir and Hel, but also to Jörmungandr the world serpent. All that Odin and Sleipnir got to do with eachother is that Sleipnir is Odin's mount.
Could you do a region based on New England? I think the overarching theme could be based on all the horror novels that have been written about New England (H.P. Lovecraft, Steven King, etc.) and could have an evil team based on witches and cultists trying to awaken a dark or psychic type legendary so they can plunge the world into an alternate dimension.
Dude, I watched this entire video and I just wanted to say that I'm really impressed with the amount of effort you've put into it, as well as how amazing the final product ended up being. I was really engaged by all of the details and research you put into the region, and this video just made me want to have an actual game like this one.
I feel Team Berserk's homeland or where they went after they were banished could possibly be based on Newfoundland in Canada because there are old viking ruins found there and there was evidence that the vikings did settle in Canada (I think they only stayed in Newfoundland), way before European Colonists settled in Canada, but no one knows why the vikings left or disappeared. Maybe Team Berserk's homeland is a Pokemon version of Newfoundland. I'd love to see how that would tie in to a Canada based region and how it would reference some Scandinavian based region's elements.
Greetings from Scandinavia, it will be awesome that the norse mythology could also be related with pokemon games for the inspiration. ''Asgard awaits''
Seriously, I know you throw out disclaimers of the story ideas being fanfiction almost like they'll be terrible, but it's far from that. You really have a knack for writing potential Pokemon stories! It might just be me but I greatly enjoy the conflicts you come up with! Both this, the story for the Australian region and even the story incorporated into Unova with Team Buddy all feel like ones that wouldn't be so out-of-place amongst the canon ones! This region itself is probably my favorite out of the ones you came up with (mainly because I studied up on Norse mythology in my spare time like the nerd I am) and I'm excited to see the next one.
When i tought of a starting point i was thinking somewhere in the western area of Norway And thats beacause i always tought of my town as a Pokémon start area And it has a fjord but it’s all to small
This was the best thing I have ever seen! I love norsk mythology. The story is complex but easy to understand. And the leader of the Besercks change of heart is amazing!!
It's time for "Mr. Buddy: The Movie"
Just kidding, but for real, here's the longest video I've ever made! I've been working super hard on this one, so I hope you guys like it! (I'll be over there, passed out, if you need me)

Are u Danish?
I am Filipino I want region base off of Philippines.... roar
I kinda want a region based off Honduras
JS Rosenrød be a big map if it joins all Nordic countries but if they did make this Denmark Sweden Norway should have its own legendary
Jörmungandr is definitely not a dragon.
He is very much a serpent.
Nidhoggr is dragon-esque but I'm not sure.
Fafnir is straight up a dragon.
@@dirtyharry0191 Nidhögg is most defenitly a dragon
You know that the Kalos legendaries are based off of this trio right? It's a nice idea but Mr. Buddy probably didn't do it because it's been done before.
fafnir was even slayed by someone named sigurd
SUDDEN IDEA:
-The Prophecy is not referring to the player, but us actually talking about Sigurd.
Why this could work:
-Sigurd obtained one of the Starters from the egg, trained and befriended it over time.
He gives you luv! That's a good sign! c:

Probably because it's in Japan, and Japanese don't really understand English. Even simple words that everyone else understands aren't something you can expect the average Japanese guy to know. So they don't really understand what he is even saying. That might be be why.
I have two suggestions
1. You could make a sequel where Finland, Åland, faroe islands and iceland are in it like how they expanded unova in black/White 2
2. You could make Gotland a legendary location since it is the placera where the biggest viking treasure was found.
The animal that represents Gotland is actually the Hedgehoge, so it could be a location for Shaymin.
Gotland as a legendary location? AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH Svalbard or even the lakes of Sweden or Bornholm are better

It is a cold region like Sinnoh we can see a bound between this regions
another dream come true would be a region based off Antarctica!

Yeah and theres just moomins all around and no one in Finland will talk to you C:
A Dark/Ice Houndour/Houndoom based on a Viking would be perfect for this region.

Wayne Keller I kinda thought of something like that, I just didn’t include sigard or the world tree like you did...good job
I Know right he’s So AMAZING!!
He inspired me too
this is actually so innovative and the way you get your starters is so amazing, i would literally buy this right now i love all of your story lines
I want this game now. please.
As a Swede I’d love a Scandinavian Pokémon game, with a “dalahäst” Pokémon :)
Grass Hope JA det skulle vara bra
or a pokemon based on the Gävle goat... it would be a fire type
It's the Voltorb of the area. Only knows selfdestruct :D
So a Grass type Dala Horse Pokemon
Omg yes

"Hel" is the ruler of the underworld in Norse, not the place itself. The underworld is named "Helheim", which means "Hel's Home"
Hel was the name of the place and the person in earlier versions, and later versions called the place Helheim.

Helheim means Hel's Home

Yeah... I like it! Awesome job, man! Have a cookie! C:
Ah, yes, the best flavour of ice cream.
And because it's ice cream, it ties in with the cold & the snow! Very smart!
The Sami inspired people would be awesome!!!!!!
I really wasn't expecting the channel creator to like this. Thank you. :3
Once more, thank you for all the love.
isn't Sino the chinese region?
Sinnoh is based of Hokkaido in Japan not China
I think a region based on Korea would be a little... awkward for a Pokemon game, technically speaking, since Korea has some bad history with Japan. They invaded them during WW2, colonized it, and tried to erase Korean culture in favor of their own. That's why, until the year 2000, South Korea banned anything containing references to Japanese culture, and a handful of Pokemon episodes, among who knows what else, got banned as a result.
Just the fact that Stavanger was included made my heart swell, also weird hearing you talk about a street that I literally walked through today in a video like this, fun!
Togelover dude I feel you. I grew up in stavanger for a while and it was amazing.
IVE BEEN TO THAT STREET TOO
I just found out about this series and I'm loving it! I would love to see your take on a Pokemon Region inspired by Brazil
This actually came out to be like, a full-length essay, so in case you don't want to read all that here's a 4-point summary, aha:
1) I've always been kind of upset that I can't get an ice type in the early game, so I love the idea of a very snowy region.
4) most of the rest of this is me gushing about how good this video is and posing random vaguely-related questions
anyway. the actual essay i typed out is below.
Starting with location!
Oh yeah, it's always kind of bugged me that pokemon games only have icy or mountainous regions late-game, and only one area of snow? I never get an ice-type early on in game which means they rarely make it onto my final team. I'd love to have a real snowy region for once, or at least just get the chance to catch a snorunt earlier than RIGHT BEFORE THE E4
I love this group of bog pokemon. I mean all the organizational pokemon-per-area are good but, the bog ones especially, probably because again ghost types arent all that common haha
(a sidenote, but the superhero-nerd side of me is hung on Thor: Ragnarok as a pokemon game. I'm not even sure how that would work. But related to that tangent, have you ever considered making "what if" videos based on preexisting franchises, like a crossover of sorts? as just a kind of example, my friend and I created an entire world based around the concept of Gravity Falls being part of the pokemon world, including the region layout, gym leaders, and plot, so it's definitely possible to put a very original twist on these things; it would just be really interesting to see you make a video about some other franchise taking place in the pokemon world, especially since it's a good excuse to deviate from the typical pokemon storyline of "beat the gyms, catch the legendary, be the champion" and make up whatever based on the source material; it forces you to plan the region around the characters instead of the characters around the region, too, which could be interesting. i also might have already asked you this so, sorry if it sounds like a repeat! this was a long tangent my apologies)
A hometown that's actually on an interesting location that could be a gateway to a deeper mystery or transportation?
Ran and Shaw.)
This boar looks so gorgeous. (jokes!))
Into the story- this is my favorite part of all your videos.
Or one of Thor's kids?)
I would die for Sylvatica.
([screaming] PEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAACE)
I absolutely love this story... man, your stories are always amazing.
Oh, and my team:
Scandinavian Gardevoir, Sublurk, Ograss, Shuppet/Banette, Froslass/Glalie, and (of course) Ignizen. Is this a balanced team? Of course not. Are they my favorite pokemon in this region? Absolutely.
Dangit, I want to reply to this but I don't have enough time to write an entire response! I'm gonna go through piece by piece and reply to things!
Finally finished the video and HOT DANG! It is amazing these videos only continue to get better and better every single time.
I would be kinda cool if there was a scene that despite the bond between Sigurd and the starter, he understands that he got it through petty thievery and has to push himself to try and give it back. Then the professor says “no you can keep it” and Sigurd goes from distraught to ecstatic.
Yo....... Sigurd’s battle axe and tunic... Dark, but incredibly cool touch.
Ulises Alvarado were there any other dragon type references on sigard? Or just the axe and tunic?
Captain Munchlax The jaw-necklace thing is most definitely, but I couldn’t tell ya which dragon it belongs to! The fur could also be a Drampa’s but maybe that’s a stretch on my part
Ulises Alvarado maybe the hair and jaw are from tyrantrum
The fur could be a Noivern ‘mane’
JoftheTman that’s true
I always imagined a Wolverine Pokemon as being a Dark type, though I thought of a new ability that capitalizes on its immunity to fear rather than its ability to cause it.
Wild Heart - Makes the Pokemon Immune to distraction or intimidation.
AKA, Inner Focus
@@legendofrayquazagaming5125 Inner Focus just prevents flinching. I had more in mind moves/abilities like Intimidate, Charm, Scary Face, etc.

Huh, that's new.
Good choice to make it Scandinavia instead of just one of country, it just makes it better :)

A region based on Italy maybe? Can you imagine a city based on Venice? I've been looking up cities that would make good inspiration and it's hard to find any that wouldn't. Rome, Milan, Pisa, Naples, Orvieto, Sassari, Taranto.
Aoi Ookami A region based on Italy would be awesome. I was actually born there.
If we’re talking about Italian cities, you can’t forget about Florence.
god bless Firenze
I mean, Italy would make a great Pokemon region. You’ve got plenty of unique cities, and a practically pre-made evil team.
Aoi Ookami He's going to do that soon. Which I'm looking forward to since I studied Italian when I was in 7th Grade.
I'd love to see what you make out of my Central European Area including for example the Benelux States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and so on :3
Also, I love the Regional variations you came up with, the Dragon Eggs (got heavy GOT vibes here) and the legendaries. The villains, the gym leaders and Elite 4 plus champ are pretty cool as well :) I miss a character based on Pippi Longstocking or a bunch of other Lindgren characters, though ^^'
THAT STORY IS SO GOOD AND I LOVE FANFICTION
How about a region based on Italy? Plenty of Coastal towns, a volcano, the Alps to the North, and a large central city complete with a Colosseum? It's practically made to be a region, plus imagine an evil team with a Rennaisance theming? That would be super cool
As in italian, it's perfect. tho there are more places to be noted: the sleeping vulcano, the caves, the high road "we are full of them" . and for the Evil team rennaisance.. i think not. especialy since they are tryin to abolish Art in high and middle school . T:T please, we already are fighting for that
A renesaince-themed evil team? Sooo beats the Romans I thought of. I want this now
Dakota Harmon What about a mafia-based team (not the actual mafia, their role and location are far too limited).
Nice work
stever1705 dude, I caught most of that, the only thing I didn’t catch was the locario thing, thank you so much for explaining that, it made me love this video even more
Thank you. And I would love to see more Pokemon based off of Norse myths than just Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde.
Saki Tsuzura agreed, imagine a new world devouring snake, fernnris wolf, the stag and the bird, plus a few others
Saki Tsuzura that sounds great, btw I love that there is so much fairy type love in this video and in the comments 😂😂
My personal favorite fictional region of yours! Thank you all for your work!
Beautiful. As a norwegian myself this was purely an outstanding and well-made video. I really wish this would be an alternative for a new region. The region would have some overall better oppourtunities for an original and innovating storyline than (in my opinion) other regions decided to go with
true! as I havent played the game in a quite a while I would definitely pick it up and play it (håper den får interessant og bra pokemons)
Hej från Sverige
JEG ER OSÅ NORSK! :D
Even as sad as I am that Finland got left out, I LOVE the roster you've put together. It just feels right.
Froyduhr Norse *LOKI*
Actually the story is odin turned into a horse impregnated a mare and she gave birth to slephniir. Loki is the father of Hel and Fenrir.
lunerlilly every version I've read had Loki get impregnated by a stallion. Never heard one with Odin being the sire
Loke is his real name, Loki is the English translation.
Its Stephen King not steven

Dude, I watched this entire video and I just wanted to say that I'm really impressed with the amount of effort you've put into it, as well as how amazing the final product ended up being. I was really engaged by all of the details and research you put into the region, and this video just made me want to have an actual game like this one.
I agree 100%
I feel Team Berserk's homeland or where they went after they were banished could possibly be based on Newfoundland in Canada because there are old viking ruins found there and there was evidence that the vikings did settle in Canada (I think they only stayed in Newfoundland), way before European Colonists settled in Canada, but no one knows why the vikings left or disappeared. Maybe Team Berserk's homeland is a Pokemon version of Newfoundland. I'd love to see how that would tie in to a Canada based region and how it would reference some Scandinavian based region's elements.
Ugh yes this makes my heart happy. My entire family lives in Sweden and live in Ostersund
That story with Sigurd actually made me tear a bit...
Greetings from Scandinavia, it will be awesome that the norse mythology could also be related with pokemon games for the inspiration. ''Asgard awaits''
If Game Freak doesn't use these ideas, someone has to make a fan game
Agreed. There are many good ideas, in this. Attention to detail, too.
TheShinyPyroar I will, but I need work from my classmates
When i tought of a starting point i was thinking somewhere in the western area of Norway
