Shot entirely on location in Baltimore, Maryland, director Pierre Bennu visually compliments Porter's intense lyrics and smooth, soulful vocals with vibrant colors and whimsical storytelling, and sets it all against Charm City's unique backdrop. As two lovers traverse their everyday lives amidst the mundane, Bennu draws on the power of everyday magic, the fear of loss, and the yearning for love in what he calls a "lullaby for your inner child."
"The dance of love is something that can be done alone but it is also fun with somebody else," says Bennu. "I wanted to show two characters; one who was so busy dancing alone, never looking to have a partner... and another so desperate for love that he would do whatever it took to get it. What that character finally realizes is that all he needed to offer forth was himself."
To compliment his artistic vision, Bennu tapped the talents of Baltimore-based multidisciplinary visual artist Dirk Joseph, whose 'magical props' add significantly to the video's playful and enchanting sensibility. - เพลง

This was my wife favorite song , when I first played this she asked me to dance with her not knowing this would be the last song I would dance with her. She passed May 2019 and her energy and spirit resonates and continues to live in my safe place.

This song reminds me of my father when he use to sing "Mr Bojangles" which was a song about an old black man who danced with worn out shoes with silver hair and raggedy shirt and baggy pants" the rhythm of the song is just like this and it reminds me of how hard it was for men in general in the south where my dad was from, he played the piano and I play the trumpet and as crazy as he was I miss him😢

As I listened to this song and read the comments of the gentleman whose wife passed in May 2019, I'm reminded of the last outing I had with my mom. I pushed her in a wheel chair 11 long city blocks (roundtrip) to enjoy a scrumptious (last meal, unknown to me) at a restaurant called Oohs and Ahhs in NW DC. I'm brought to tears thinking of the joy it brought her. She passed 28 February 2019. What a beautiful melody to celebrate my mother. 😭

This song is so captivating. It's like you expect someone in a relationship to behave a certain way but when they do you don't change how you treat them. I think the point of the song is that she doesn't see his efforts just like in the video the woman dancing doesn't see how hard the man is trying to get her attention. This song is a very eloquent way of putting a sensitive subject. A lot of relationships end because someone isn't taking notice of the efforts of the other. She tells him to be good and he does but it doesn't matter, she treats him the same and she keeping him hanging on a string waiting for her to notice ( dancing around his cage) but she only See's what she wants to see. He understands she has been hurt so he is paitent ( lions are made for cages but be careful they might just bite) still he wants her to see him for who he is and love him. Beautiful song!

I am absolutely convinced that this music should remain as one of the representatives of our culture and our time. I am sure that, being underestimated now, it will still take its toll in the future.
I know music is left for interpretation, but for me this song is so moving. I see it as a guy who's trying his best to show that he's a changed man. Hence the" be good brush my mane". "Be good, be good" he remembers her always wanting the better part of him. He no longer wants to be remembered by his past self so "he trimmed his lion claws and cut his mane" meaning he's shedding his bad ways, he groomed himself to show her that hes a changed man, he's no longer living for himself. Now he's looking like the man she always wanted. But she seems blind to it. She only sees the bad in him, his past; so she tries to hurt him to make him feel, what she felt when he hurt her ( 'Pulls my lion tail and cause me pain"). However whenever he sees her he remembers the feeling he felt when he first laid eyes on her , but she has yet to see that all he feels for her is love.

I broke up with a guy who would freeze me out, I would do some thing wrong but he never said anything, just was cold. Had to get an ultrasound on my gallbladder and a barium swallow to look at my stomach because I was so sick about his treatment, literally the stress made me ill. MY grandfather passed September 16 23 and him and I loved this song and listened to it everyday whenever we were in the pool, cooking, games, and more. This man always brings a tear to my eye whenever he comes on. I just started listening to him again because I wanted to play something while I was setting up his memories. What's so crazy is is that I've been listening to this song 4 months now and never seen the video. And it's everything that I envisioned! I envisioned a woman dancing around a man that's caged in some way or another eventually them dancing together it's unbelievable. For me it's something I would love to dance to at my wedding if I ever get married again. It means so much more to me because I wish that my name was be good so I could have a man like that to go after me. It's like she's not necessarily trying to avoid him but because she's been hurt she doesn't want to bend to his will. It's only when he finally sees the Simplicity in the thing that she loves to do is when he truly understands her and can finally join the dance yes. I love Gregory Porter and his music to me is like water and air💜👑
