I had to remove a blue painted boat name off of my transom. I called around for name installers to see how much the cost would be. I then decided to look at this video, and did the whole job myself!!! I did everything that I was directed to do in this video and the name came off perfectly. If it did not come off fully, I just simply used the Oven Off again. I was scared when I saw the yellow residue 😢, but I was able to remove it successully as directed in the video. Thanks for all the information. Great Video
so how did you put all the colors together as one before you put the transfer tape on? or was it printed and then cut out? I promise I won't tell anyone lol @@nancedemartino3883
Thanks for that great video! Really helpful. I see you're removing the paint of a non-colored gel coat. I have a Parker with an Off-White (beige) gel coat, what would be the procedure? And if I can use EZoff what is the solution to taking out that yellow excess?
I thought the same. Using this type of chemicals and then washing it off into the water is sooo bad. This type of work should be done with boat in a dry dock situation.
Easy Off is carbonic acid (carbonated water), ethanol-2-butoxy ethoxy, and ethanol 2-amino, and isobutane propellant - all bio-degradable and in relatively small concentrations (2-10%) in the easy off. It's actually a pretty good solution... because the temptation to use more aggressive solvents or paint strippers would be much worse.
Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done to remove the fade, it's embedded into the gelcoat. If you are using the easy off method, white vinegar will only help neutralize the yellowing left by the spray. However, we do notice that as long as the new name is around the same size, your eye goes to the new letters and eventually what is exposed, the sun will do it's job. Hope that helps!
Hi Daniel! You know I don't have any idea how long it was on there... It was very faded and did leave a slight fade under the new lettering, but looked so much better!
I don't believe in luck. I believe in naming your boat what you like. If it like it you will smile when you say it or talk about it. Luck is like wishing and hoping. Wishing and hoping are verbs that really have no action... Do and act and great things happen like, owning a boat with a name you like!! My .02.

I'm so glad everything worked out for you. We are always trying to improve our methods but I think you figured it out just fine!
Wow, thanks! I am actually eager to get to work on this, glad I found the video before we were shrink wrapped for the season.
It's a little bit of a project, but you can do it!
That came out really nice. How did you do the 3 different combined colors on the vinyl all in one install?
Oooh trade secrets...! We cut all the colors and put them together like a puzzle and then tape them as one piece.

Nicely done,,, However! Always clean the area where acetone is used to take the acetone off so the gelcoat doesn't get damaged....
Nice work ladies! Great info on the paint and vinyl removal
I know it looks like a scary process but it really works!
Great video, super informative!! Thank you
It’s a tough job but this makes it a little easier!
Thanks! Have to remove an old painted name on a new to us boat soon. Ironically same colors! This has helped a ton.
Great. Send us some photos of the new lettering!

Off white hull has the same process. The yellow discoloration from the EZ off is removed by using the white vinegar.
Thanx ladies great info. unfortunate about the camera 1/2 way through but A+ for usefulness
So helpful, thank you. What font is this ... do you happen to know?
The closest one we have to this one in the video is Sarah script. Let us know if we can help you out with a design.
Noticed that your boat is still in the water. The easy-off is not environmentally safe

This is great! Thanks for posting!
Hope it was helpful! Let us know how you make out. Nance
ok, so your just flushing easy off caustic cleaner into the lake???? I am sure the EPA is having a ball with that!!!

Can you use the same method on an old vehicle with painted on lettering? Or will it ruin the vehicle paint too?
Thank you sooooo much
Will EasyOff work with the same process if the hull is navy blue?
what about on a blue hull? wont destroy it???
Did it?
how do you get the shading around the name

OK. Before you made this video, how long had the old "Lahinch" painting and vinyl been on the boat?

@@briancoltellino7094 My guess was that both the paint and vinyl on the boat had been on there since 2004.
Can you wipe it off instead of washing chemicals into the marina
I suppose you could if you had some wash buckets with clean water and rags. Be sure to wear protective gear. Just not sure how you would dispose of.
Thank You!
What is the name of the solvent used to prevent the lettings from sticking to each other?
We use Rapid Tac. We sell a small bottle with each order.
Oooh I probably wouldn't. I think you're right it might ruin the paint.
what do you charge for removal? install? thx.
Hi Tony, Where is the boat located?
Just following up to see where your boat is located? Thanks.
those chemicals in the lake not a good idea should have done around land
Oven cleaner? Not needed
Hi Richard, I suppose if the paint is really old other solvents can be used to remove it.
OMG, I sooooo miss that accent....
but very helpful Thank you.
Oven cleaner and acetone washed/rinsed directly into the water? Whoa! Don’t think I’d ever use these two. No respect for the environment.
Beyond belief the stupidity
The first thing i would use is acetone,it removes nail polish
Great information about the paint and decal removal. You need a little more practice with the camera...
Right into the water 👎
Isn't this bad luck??? changing a boat name???

They didn’t change the name, they merely updated the paint/decal.
